Thought I’d take tonight as an opportunity to talk about the unjust murders of black people that have been getting the tiniest bit of media attention recently. It feels wrong to post a selfie of myself when there are people who leave their house to go to school or work or on a run expecting to come home at night for dinner and don’t, or don’t even need to leave their house to be murdered for nothing but the color of their skin. So here’s a picture of Breonna Taylor, who was an awarded EMT and brutally murdered in her own home after the police claimed they were at the wrong house when they already had the correct suspect in custody. I’m guilty of it too, not doing enough or paying enough attention. These murders happened months ago, but this isn’t new. It has always happened and will keep happening. Black people don’t need to do anything to be attacked or killed or targeted. It doesn’t matter if they have a weapon or not or a criminal record or not. If they weren’t black this wouldn’t be happening. And the people who keep doing this keep getting away with it. Travyon was murdered at only 17 by a cop who can just claim self defense and walk away. Michael Brown was killed in my own city by another racist cop who gets to hide behind his uniform and skin color to get away with it. Ahmaud was on a run. Breonna in her own home. The list goes on and on and on. And consistently these cases don’t even get a little bit of attention until the public, specifically the black community and activists, get word and become infuriated, and even then justice is never served. Never. They will keep killing us and getting away with it and it is so exhausting and infuriating to sit back and watch and wonder who is gonna be next. I know I do. I also know I and everyone else needs to do so much better. For now, I know there are some petitions you can sign and calls you can make. Keep sharing their stories and saying their names and calling out the racist bullshit you see everyday. If we don’t set the precedent that this is not and never will be okay, then when does it end?

When the only selfies you’ve taken during quarantine are for your school ID pictures...
Anyways, shout out to miss Taylor Swift for releasing a new album the weekend before I started medical school so that I could properly start a new era of my life! ✨✨✨
