Your post about Shawn and social issues is everything. I felt like I was yelling into the ether the other day saying the same stuff but it's so comforting to see someone calling out all those entitled Twitter idiots. I can tell you truly understand him. Thank you so much.

Thanks friend! You should see me yelling into the same ether on Twitter lol it’s a little silly. I don’t think about my follower counts really but sometimes I wish I had more of one on there because that’s where lots of these really negative attitudes come from and it makes me nuts. It’s not exactly a platform for elaborate essays/respectful dialogue either haha. 

I’m also like, very old by “stan” (blegh) standards (I hate that term so much); I feel like the average age of Shawn Twitter is younger than Tumblr, or maybe I’ve just been in different fandoms forever and the celebrity one’s a lot newer to me, but the fact that a majority of people are in high school or seem barely out of it always gives me pause. Twitter is…a weird place. It’s not to say that Tumblr doesn’t have its fair share of issues when it comes to Shawn/fandom in general, but the culture on stan Twitter is…particular, let’s say. It seems more like a place for sensationalist statements than critical thought a lot of the time. They also covet Shawn in a really intense way. My graduate studies are literally in communications and media so I honestly think about these issues a lot. I don’t know everything by any means (and I’m viet/canadian so I can’t speak for the black or muslim community) but I know enough.

Twitter just needs to relax, honestly, and just let Shawn do his thing and just enjoy it (and not stalk him but let’s not start that again lol). He’s a good kid and he makes great music, but for some people that’ll never be enough and it should be.

My hot take on the situation is this: how fans are reacting to what Shawn is doing with his own life is on them, it's not on him. He never made promises to anyone to stay single or remain the fandom's collective boyfriend so everyone could fantasize over him. In fact, he's done the direct opposite. For people to shame him and misrepresent him for essentially doing what he wants and staying true to who he is as a person is ridiculous. He would never use his best friend for publicity. Never.

i don’t think a whole lot of people (at least not that i’ve seen on tumblr) are saying that he’s he’s not allowed to do what he wants or even that he’s “using camila”. i think a lot of people were just really upset to see this all happening again like it did all those years ago. it’s is frustrating either way; to see him doing this again even though it is his life, and just to all of this unfolding. from what i’ve seen, not even all the frustration is pointed directly at shawn, but much of it toward camila too because not many people like her based of some messy past mistakes. i could be wrong. but yeah it can be frustrating seeing others get upset at him for living and making his own choices when it comes to relationships. it’s understandable to be upset but some are jsut taking it too far and it needs to stop.
