Knuckle series is out!! Any thoughts? Does it affect your Jojo and Gang au?
Spoilers for the Knuckles series people! Avert your eyes children!
First, let's talk about the things I liked:
- Sonic and Tails were great for as little screen time as they had. And Maddie trying to be patient with Knuckles while also not strangling him was great, haha. As someone who worked at a Daycare, I related to her dealing with kids like Knuckles and Maddie's facial expressions when she was grounding Knuckles were on point. Also THEY HAVE A PLAIN BED FOR TAILS AND A TRUCK BED FOR KNUCKLES AHHHHH!!!!!
-Pachacamac is a Jedi Force ghost? Alright then. I don't know much about this character outside of Sonic X but I thought that he was fine. And Christopher Lloyd does a great job as usual.
-Wade was not terrible. I like how he has some character growth through the series and at the end he isn't a master warrior/fighter. He's still a goofball but now he's thinking things through and using what he has and his current surroundings to his advantage in a fight, and isn't just hiding and waiting for Knuckles to save him. But him breaking out of the cage in episode 4 was a bit ridiculous. What was that cage made of, cardboard? He really should have broken his hand or something.
-I liked the villains but I wish that we got to see them more involved in the story, especially the buyer. Who was menacing for about five minutes and then was crushed to death like, dang 0-0
-NANA WHIPPLE AND KNUCKLES SPINOFF SHOW PLEASE!!
-Knuckles was the best part of the show. He's the strong tough warrior but with a big heart and good intentions, though a bit misguided at times. Idris did a great job, nothing new there.
And now let's get into the things I didn't like:
-The show is %70 Wade bowling story and %30 Knuckles adjusting to earth and his backstory with Pachacamac and his tribe and his connection to the master emerald and everything else that the show should have been about. The Wade sub plot takes up so much time that we don't get to explore Knuckles. I wished that we had gotten to see him learn to appreciate and call Earth his new home instead of him just accepting it at the end. It just felt so rushed.
-Episode four wasn't awful but I didn't care for it. Also you can NOT show us the Flames of Disaster from '06 and not have Silver or Blaze show up. You can't do that >:(
-Knuckles and Maddie didn't get to have a heart to heart conversation which is what I and many others thought that was what the show was building up to. Also he never gets in trouble for running way and we never cut back to seeing Maddie or Sonic and Tails realizing Knuckles is gone, or even Sonic and Tails trying to cover for Knuckles. I get that the CGI was expensive and voice actor and actor schedules might not have worked out for it to happen, but my point still stands.
-Wanda was useless and you could have cut her out and lost nothing. Don't get me wrong, the actress is good but she feels wasted here. Her character is so annoying and serves no purpose other than to be mean to Wade. And why do we have to have the "siblings who hate each other but make up at the end" cliche? I would have liked Wanda more if she was nicer to Wade from the start and if they had a fun sibling bond with each other. Also if she was able to actually use her skills as an FBI agent to at least hold her own against the gang when they attack Nanna Whipple's house. Also the dad needed to be more comedically villainous, he was too generic.
-Like I said the villains here are fine but the Buyer's whole character is to just show up, have a cool robot fight, and die. We don't get to see him be a threat to Knuckles at all, he just appears for the climax and then is offed in a snap. And the two agents were fun but a lot of their dialogue was graining.
-And that leads me to the main problem with the series. The writing. I'm aware that the writers for the main movies didn't work much on this series, except Jeff did do the first episode. Which is why it's the best one. There is no balance between the jokes and the emotional moments. The show is so focused on trying to make you laugh every five minutes that it sacrifices genuine emotional growth for the characters especially for Knuckles. You know, the whole reason for the show existing in the first place. It suffers the same problems that the live action Ton and Jerry movie had, where the main stars weren't allowed to be the main stars of their film. All of the screen time there went to the human characters who weren't interesting or just plain annoying and mean.
And the dialogue for the show teeters back and forth between actually funny/well written and being dangerously close to obnoxious. And kids shows having jokes all the time isn't a problem. Rottmnt and the Lego Movies are both kid properties that fire off a joke every minute but they knew when to cut back and let the emotional moments shine. The jokes in the Knuckles show felt more like they were pandering to four year old's then actually trying to be funny and the emotional moments felt kind of forced.
I don't want to give any of the writers or anyone who worked on this show a hard time. I can see that everyone worked hard and had fun with this. And I had fun too. There were some good moments between Knuckles and Wade and even a few jokes that got me. But the problems I listed above are just to hard for me to ignore. If you liked the Knuckles series then great for you! I'm happy you were able to have a great time! But for me it was just ok.
Not great. But not bad either. 5/10.
Now, about this affecting Jojo and Gang. I think what I'll do is have comic take place a month after the Knuckles series. And use my AU to focus on Knuckles getting accustomed to Earth and learning to call it home. Basically my AU will do what the Knuckles series didn't.

Aaaaaa I was in the same room as Freddy & Matt!
My friend and I went to the NYC free screening of We're All Going to Die and it was so fun! I love the movie and the Q&A was good.
I really loved the showing of mock up shots of Freddy to show what they wanted to shoot as pick ups. Also they said they were very specific about the "wait what really okay" line in the script and stage directions because every time I hear it, it sounds like such a Freddy-ism.
I brought my notebook with my #1 dad sticker to NYC to get it signed but then left it at my friends place before the screening! So I got a poster for me and another for my brother but then didn't get them signed bc idk what I would have said after waiting in line. Like "Matt, I accidentally named my first DnD character after your daughter"? Or "Freddy, how did you guys meet/cast Jordan?"
Just seeing them there and getting a Thalia's Bee pin was great!
My friend and I were talking about how Beth had like 4 roles between producer, production assistant, actor and writing help and how we would have loved to see her (my friend is finishing her grad school in film producing & moving to LA this summer which is why she came without knowing rocketjump or Dndads)

I want more queer romcoms with old men in them.
Cast Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac in a fake dating, set in Vegas romp where they get mistaken for being a couple and have to sell it in order to keep the perks and not have to pay for all the upgrades they're getting and they've been friends forever, and Oscar's character is finally getting the divorce with the estranged ex-wife finalised, and Pedro's character has gotten laid off from his career job and is a little at loose ends, so they go to Vegas for a week to blow off some steam.
Mark Ruffalo is their extremely long-suffering friend who has been trying to get them to look at each other instead of other people for the last fifteen years, and he is one hundred percent the reason why the receptionist at the hotel was like "Congratulations on your wedding!" when they checked in.

Tbh i believe that one of the reasons why Reanimator has an active fandom (beside being just a good queer coded horror movie) is that characters are just very drawable. Like Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, heck even David Gale look easy to draw, give them some fun cartoony shapes. They're perfect <3

Honestly the thing I'm most worried about uf they make Eggman fat in Sonic 3 is I'm 95 percent sure they're going to come up with a BS excuse.
Like yes Eggman was planned to slowly turn more game Eggman like as the movies progress (Sonic 1 gave him his red outfit in the end, Sonic 2 made him bald, gave him the signature stache and made him a bit crazy, Sonic 3 might be giving him his signature bulk and probably some other things) and it sucks that they'd have to use a fat suit in order to get Jim to look the part but I don't want it them to phone it in as something like it being an effect of absorbing the Master Emerald and I'll be real disappointed if its something like 'oh, he just let himself go'
Maybe Eggman had a scientific reason to bulk up, or maybe he just thought he looked good with some extra weight, or maybe it is a side effect of something but he knew about it before hand and was okay with it. As long as its more of a choice then I think I'd be more okay with it.
we dont really have the full context yet of course but the descriptions of the teaser going around are making it sound like they went with the "he let himself go and gained a lot of weight" explanation. and idk man maybe it just sounds bad out of context but im tired of fatness being portrayed as gross and a negative trait and weight gain being used to signify a character becoming Worse in some way. fat people are just people and the body type someone has doesnt have any morals attached to it. again maybe it just sounds bad out of context and the movie wont make his weight gain into a joke but my hopes arent high because being weird about fat people is not new for sonic media at all

i watched insidious: the red door again with my sister, and it grew on me the second time around despite not knowing how to feel abt it initially.
At first i found the story was underdeveloped (and despite my opinions on the movie changing, i honestly still do feel this way lowkey ghgh) but like. i see exactly what they were trying to do, y’now???
i’ve always rlly enjoyed the insidious franchise, not necessarily because i found it scary, but because the concept of the further was absolutely FASCINATING to me. especially because it’s a place that’s like. an endless limbo that’s reminiscent of liminal horror (and i’m a sucker for that shit)
I rlly liked that they brought in more emotional depth & complexity for the lamberts and how they explore more of how the events of insidious: chapter 2 ultimately affected their family and each individual character.
I immensely enjoyed that they wanted to explore themes of generational trauma and repressed trauma, and how sweeping said trauma under the rug rather than trying to heal and resolve it at its root causes it to fester and ultimately harm everyone involved.
i like how they acknowledged how extremely traumatizing it must have been for renai and the kids to see parker crane josh trying to violently DESTROY them. like there ain’t no way that’s NOT going to have devastating effects on your psyche/marriage when you see what you think is your deranged looking father/husband, trying to beat y’all to death with hammers 😭😭 like i can’t imagine how that must have looked for the kids and i’m glad they explored that
i also really like how (at least in my opinion), the red faced demon and his lair is also kinda symbolic of dalton’s repressed & festering mental illness/trauma with how OBSESSED the demon is with dalton. and how he set up all those “scenes” of dalton’s past which makes him just. remember everything (and that made me feel SAUR BAD for him bc recalling that much repressed trauma would be overwhelming as fuck)
that said, i really feel like they could have executed these themes a lot better, in a way that would make a little bit more sense. during the scene with dalton and josh near the end where they’re in the further trying to close the door, dalton states that they have to stop running from the demon. and there i thought dalton and josh were going to slay the demon together once and for all, but dalton just paints over the door leaving josh in the further by himself and i was like ??????????? 😭😭😭😭 hello???
like. aside from it being a bit anticlimactic, i also don’t think it made very much sense of dalton to just paint over the door when he said they couldn’t run/ignore it anymore. i suppose in a sense, dalton painting over the door in of itself symbolizes that he is trying to break the cycle himself, but honestly? it would have made more sense imo if they somehow tried to relinquish the red face demon together, bc to me that would show that dalton and josh are finally trying to resolve their trauma together by tackling it head on, thus competing their arc more effectively.
i wish they could have introduced josh’s father a bit differently—i know the existence of josh’s dad probably wasnt planned from the beginning, so adding him in was going to be a bit clunky no matter what, but i had a hard time feeling anything at all for him as a character…..
i also wish elise had a bigger role in this rather than making a 5 second cameo at the end of the movie just for the the sake of it, especially since she is what makes insidious such an interesting franchise. but i am SO glad we got a specs and tucker cameo i genuinely teared up seeing them :,)
ANYWAY, overall, i’m quite pleased w the movie, even if certain aspects of it could have been executed better. it definitely isn’t THE BEST insidious movie. i think it had a lot of potential to be excellent. i have WAYY more thoughts abt it that i dont think i can convey in a single post but maybe i’ll talk abt them another time
also. dalton and chris my beloveds 🫰🏼🫰🏼

Today was... well... something...
The BC show was great, no doubt about that. The guys were really having fun up there. Could I have done without the heat and getting my head pressed against the barricade so hard by a crowdsurfer that the back of my ear split open? Yeah, definitely. But does that mean that I didn't have fun? No.
I mean I would've had more fun for the rest of the day if I had still had the ability to crane my head and not suffer in the heat. But the BC show itself was just as great as always.
I saw some of my usual concert buddies again (bc fans of a feather or smth like that) and I had so much fun at the Attila and Sleep Token shows as well.
Wish I could've stayed for Gojira but I desperately need some rest, a glass of water and an Ibuprofen ASAP.
Currently I'm stuck at a random train station in the middle of nowhere and I'll probs be home at 4 (kill me).
I want to sleep soooo badly

Haven't posted abt ATLA on this acc for a long time but y'all are being too hard on the live-action. It's a remake, of course it's not gonna be a 1-to-1 with the animated show. Is the writing rushed and heavy handed? Yes. Is the acting stilted sometimes? Yes. Did they fumble some of the characters? Yes, especially with Katara (unfortunately) but this is still the first season. We can't be sure about the show's quality just yet. Who knows, maybe these problems will improve over time as the next season comes out.

i won’t even interact w the post bc it has 0 notes but a timothee chalamet blog said robert pattinson is a notable actor bc after twilight he went back to doing indie films for the most part but taylor lautner is a has been bc he did abduction for a big pay day? but i feel like the types of roles available to taylor lautner at the time were all action oriented he’d always been the athletic dude and then after twilight when he’s forced to have his shirt off for so many minutes of screen time and forced to maintain a certain physique like he was getting type cast? his notable talents were cutting crazy flips like that’s what he’s Known for. and he was also a child actor
