Then I saw the picture and was like. “This looks more like bodyguard Alec and popstar Magnus?” and realised I read it wrong.

Anyways now I’m thinking about Bodyguard!Magnus and Popstar!Alec being “Looks like he could kill you, is a cinnamon roll”/“Looks like a cinnamon roll, can kill you” boyfriends 🥹

I just saw someone calling Malec as toxic as Edward and Bella of Twilight :/ because of the immortal/mortal plot I guess. And they even had the audacity to say "immortal guys stay away from teenagers, wouldn't you all be grossed out if Magnus seemed as old as he is?" I just want to say, that's the point bitch. He stopped aging, not physically, but mentally, at about 18_20. He's basically frozen in time. So he's not an old man by ANY means, and they're not comparable AT ALL. What's wrong with people? And you know what's even more annoying? That these people pretend like they just want what's best for Alec, that he deserved better, blah blah blah, when in reality they just hate Malec. Like, of COURSE Alec Lightwood deserves the whole fucking universe! And the man's gotten married to Magnus freaking Bane. AND have two children with him. What's WrONg WitH pEOpLe?????

Okay, first of all, in Alec’s own words -

That comparison is FUCKING STUPID.

Bella/Edward is toxic NOT because of the whole mortal/immortal thing but because Edward is a creep who watches Bella sleep and slashes her tires so she doesn’t hang out with other guys and because Bella is so codependent on Edward she literally tries to jump off a cliff when they break up 😭😭😭 (I haven’t watched or read twilight, I just know this from seeing posts about them on Pinterest and Tumblr over the years). YOU DON’T SEE ANY OF THAT SHIT WITH MALEC????

I do understand people’s concerns about malec, cause even though Magnus is physically and mentally about 19, (no, seriously, cause his brain is frozen as well. His brain stopped aging along with the rest of the body. He literally has the brain of a 19 y/o.), he still has a lot more life experience than Alec. But this imbalance doesn’t exist in a vacuum. There’s a completely different, but opposite power imbalance between them in that Alec could literally murder Magnus if he wanted to and he’d get away with it. And more importantly, Magnus is NOT an abuser. Heck, Magnus himself is a victim of abuse, from both his fathers and to a degree, from Camille. Every time the relationship moves forward in any way, it’s with Alec’s consent - and even then, Magnus always makes sure to check twice and thrice to make sure Alec completely fine with everything they do, and always backs away when Alec decides not to do something (like in the story of their first date). I could go ON and ON tbh.

Like, yeah Magnus and Alec were written as a ‘immortal x mortal but make it gay’ story, but with the way they’re written I’d argue it’s more like a subversion of the immortal/mortal trope 🤷‍♀️
