A few songs in Bengali Films that sets the mood for the viewers to watch it
It is widely opined that Indian cinema is fundamentally deficient without its alluring songs. Therefore, it comes as no astonishment that we have been bestowed with copious instances of melodious tunes that effortlessly captivate the hearts of the audience, serving as the quintessential companion to the presented opus.
In my particular case, I have chanced upon a few invaluable gems that instantly transport me to the realm of the film, summoning the desired sentiments. Permit me to bestow upon you my adulations:
Tabo Charana Nimne (Oh! Behold the beauty below) - First and foremost, we have the 1966 magnum opus "Subhaschandra", skilfully directed by the venerable Piyush Basu. This cinematic marvel delves into the existence of Subhash Chandra Bose, an extraordinary patriot who played a pivotal role in India's National movement. The film exhibits an array of patriotic melodies, deftly composed to resonate with the narrative and ignite the fervor of patriotism within the hearts of the viewers. In my humble opinion, the song that truly encapsulates this sentiment is none other than 'Tabo Charana Nimne', crafted by the illustrious Rajanikanta Sen. Although I certainly appreciate the other musical offerings, this particular melody, when juxtaposed with the film, instils in me an unparalleled sense of patriotism and motivation. The musical genius Aparesh Lahiri, in collaboration with Maestro Manna Dey, ensures that this song is performed with utmost delicacy and finesse.

2. Haridaser Bulbul Bhaja (A roadside snack prepared by Haridas) - Progressing to Tarun Majumder's romantic comedy extravaganza of 1972, 'Sriman Prithviraj'. Allow me to assert that the captivating opening song, 'Haridasher bulbul bhaja-', wonderfully crooned by the talented Tarun Bandyopadhyay and brought to life on screen by the incomparable Rabi Ghosh, effortlessly grasps the attention of the audience. Unbeknownst to them, it ushers a delightful smile onto their countenances, preparing them for the enchantment that lies ahead. Penned down by the beloved lyricist Gauriprasanna Majumder and composed by the legendary Hemanta Mukherjee, this delightful melody, in my view, wholeheartedly caters to the desires of the audience. One might even consider it an 'anthem' for the roadside food vendors in India, who, as a crucial part of the masses, satiate the hunger of weary travellers with their freshly prepared and reasonably priced delectables.
youtube
3. Potaldangar amra kojon bikhyato char murtiman (We are the famous four musketeers from Potaldanga) Now, let us venture into the whimsical world of "Tenida", where we are regaled by the exploits of the spirited Tenida and his three precocious juniors, Habul, Pyala, and Kyabla. Unlike typical elder figures in any group, Tenida not only acts as a member of the gang but also manages to reduce the average age of the group! The song 'Potaldangar amra kojon', penned by the esteemed Shibdas Bandyopadhyay, brilliantly captures the thoughts and aspirations of a teenager embarking on a new world. It seamlessly combines the innocence and purity of adolescence, presented in a simplistic manner. Ajoy Das, with his musical prowess, and the enchanting voice of Manna Dey, add that extra touch of magic! While I personally believe that the film may pale in comparison to the novel, this particular song successfully revives the ambiance and endeavors to engulf the individual in a world of cheer and merriment, far removed from the clutches of despondency.
youtube
4. Chalo Ekhono Somoy Ache (Let's go for there is still time) - Next, we step into the enchanting realm of Anjan Dutta's 2008 spectacle 'Chalo Let's Go'. This cinematic masterpiece delves into the themes of camaraderie, intricate relationships, and most importantly, travel. The song 'Cholo ekhono somoy ache', performed by the talented quartet comprising Anjan Dutt, Ujjaini Mukherjee, Sreekanta Acharya, and Rupam Islam, under the skilled musical direction of Neel Dutta, splendidly encompasses the essence of bohemianism, offering a nonchalant glimpse into life accompanied by a wave of nostalgia. The line within the song, 'Ei poth jodi na sesh hoy-', is guaranteed to bring a smile to any Bengali's countenance even today! This song ingeniously combines the Bengali yearning for exploration with a hint of nostalgia. Personally, I find it to be a melodious bridge that seamlessly connects the audience to the film's narrative. Thus, I strongly assert that this song possesses an extraordinary connection.
youtube
5. Jekono Bhumikay Somaane Lore Jaai (I fit into any role) - Last but certainly not the least, we have Abhijit Choudhury's 2003 cinematic marvel, "Patalghar". This film bestowed upon us the unforgettable song 'Jekono bhumikay somaane lore jaai-', rendered with great finesse by the talented Kharaj Mukherjee, under the musical supervision of the revered Debojyoti Mishra. This delightful masterpiece isn't merely a song; it encompasses dialogues and harmonious chaos, paying homage to the luminaries of Bengali cinema, such as the legendary Uttam Kumar and Chhabi Biswas.
youtube
Allow me to emphasize that what I have just shared is but a minuscule fraction in the vast expanse of mesmerizing songs that adeptly set the ambience and instantaneously connect the audience with the audio-visual experience. And mind you, this is merely within my vernacular! I am acutely aware that there are countless melodies in other languages, awaiting discovery and admiration. Hence, I beseech my cherished readers to share their thoughts and recommendations, as I eagerly yearn to explore even more musical masterpieces within the confines of my own vernacular.

My visit and Salute to the legend Captain Ram Singh Thakuri. INA’s ‘Singing Soldier’ Who Created the Tune of India’s National Anthem. A member of Netaji Bose's Indian National Army, Captain Ram Singh Thakuri created the tune of India's national anthem and gave us iconic songs like 'Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja'. Yet few know his story. Captain Thakuri joined the army in 1927 at the Dharamsala cantonment. Having been posted to Singapore, he was taken in as a prisoner of war in 1942. But even then, he was one of the few people who were able to evade the clutches of torture, as the captivators would call him on for his charming musical abilities. He joined Subhash Chandra Bose’s newly formed Indian National Army (INA) during that time, where his skills were employed to compose tunes that would inspire the spirit of patriotism. In his brief, Bose said to him, “The song should have such an indelible impact and force that the Cathay Building should ‘break’ into two parts and the sky should become visible.” Under this command, Captain Thakuri composed the Qaumi Tarana, which would go on to become the anthem of the INA. Sung by 30 lakh Indians at that time, its impact echoed vibrations of inspiration. The army man and musician was the one to give the lyrics and music for the famous song ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’. He also composed the beat behind the country’s national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ which was written by Rabindranath Tagore. Captain Thakuri was awarded the title of ‘Emeritus Musician’ by the Uttar Pradesh government in 1947. This would go on to be only one of the many awards to be bestowed upon the spirited composer. #legend #INA #indianhistory #salute #countryman #soldier #musician #legend #hero (at Kurseong) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpOj5xBvfEI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Badaling Great Wall Travel suggestions - China Vacations information
I discovered this from Mr. Takayama-san years ago. He and I experienced absolutely absolutely nothing in typical. Whenever he took me out to a natural hot spa he seldom spoke to me. He was a man of couple of words and by no means squandered his time on gossip or adult related topics. He would just look more than at me and say " that is low power!" I started to choose up a lot from him because he was the lone traveler who confirmed me the way. In contemporary societies most individuals would instead settle for the conveniences of house instead than going out to remain in a resort. This is a natural consequence of modernization. In other words, people have overlooked why individuals go out anymore and this is not good. There is just simply no comparison with your home bathing unit to a all-natural hot spa spring in nature. Don't tell them they did something well, when you know they did it quite terribly. This gives a kid false self-confidence and does not give them a require to apply. click here of the worst issues that could happen is an additional child telling them they're poor when they believed they were good. Most individuals who travel to Dhanbad, frequently finish up in Topchanchi. A significant attraction here is an artificial lake, which was created way back in 1915 by excavating the area near the slope of the Parasnath Hill. The lake was intended to be a source of drinking water for the people of Jharia. An additional close by attraction is Gomoh. This place is historically important as it is the place from where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose boarded his train to move out of India. There is a statue of Netaji at the Topchanchi marketplace, which was erected in the memory of this event. Topchanchi has proved its title in the sphere of what ever small Dhanbad travel tourism industry has to offer. One of the first structures built in NZ exclusively with vacationers in mind. Initially built as a bath home and scorching water treatment middle it has now been transformed. Good museum but the highlight is the film on nearby background, sit down and be certain to be keeping on - a complete multimedia experience. Definite must do. The building itself is one of the best examples of Edwardian design and is an artwork piece in itself. The surrounding gardens are always properly maintained. The initial stage on the Irish soil make unique filling. Smelt landscape, culture, custom, songs and everything around. Dublin is the capital of the Eire. It is Ireland in little package. Your vacation traveling to indonesia ought to tell you that Eire is not a nation where you ought to look for the beaches and suns. Beer, whiskey, Irish coffee and soccer, Irish songs and dance are the staffs which will be the souvenirs from Holiday Journey in Ireland. Try utilizing these recommended maps to plot your profession long term or you produce your personal visible approach this kind of as clipping magazine pictures to create a collage "map" of your perfect future to hang in a prominent place where you will view it continuously. Problem yourself to consider what kind of visible will assist you most map out your future. When backpacking through Europe, you are most likely going to stay in hostels. There are two kinds of hostels: Hostelling Worldwide (Hi) hostels and independent hostels. Numerous vacationers want to know if they require to bring anything specific to stay in hostels. You'll probably want to buy an Hi membership card in purchase to stay in Hello hostels because they will cost you additional if you don't have one. Some Hi hostels also require you to have a pillowcase and mattress sheet sewn in fifty percent and they'll cost you additional if you don't have them.

Jarnail Hari Singh Nalwa
Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sona Ugle is a patriotic song from the 1967 Bollywood movie - Upkar, which cemented Manoj Kumar's brand as Bharat Kumar. The last para of that song goes like this...
Tumblr media
This stanza eulogizes many well known Indian personalities - Gautam Buddha, Guru Nanak, Gandhiji, Subhash Chandra Bose, Rabindranath Tagore, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Bhagat Singh and Jawaharlal Nehru. Along with such eminent personalities, this song also mentions Hari Singh Nalwa. I hadn't heard about him until recently. I am not sure many people know him very well.
This post is about one of the greatest generals India has ever produced, the commander-in-chief of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Sikh empire and a soldier who sent shivers through enemy ranks, but strangely whose name got lost in the annals of history - Jarnail Hari Singh Nalwa.
Tumblr media
This fercious-looking man was born in Gujranwala, a city currently in Pakistan, famous for wrestling. His forefathers were officers in the Sikh army. But he lost his father when he was a kid.
In 1804, when he was in his teens, he was spotted by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in an annual talent hunt-cum- sporting event, where Hari Singh excelled in horse riding, sword fighting, wrestling and many competitive sports. He was inducted as one of Ranjit Singh's personal bodyguards.
One day, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and his retinue went to the jungle for hunting. Out of the blue, a tiger attacked Hari Singh and killed his horse. Declining help from others, Hari Singh is supposed to have single-handedly fought the tiger and killed it. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was so impressed that Hari Singh was given the titles Baagmaar (tiger-killer) and Nalwa (one with tiger-like-claws).
Tumblr media
He was also recognized as a Sardaar and from here on he rose meteorically in Ranjit Singh's army to become his commander-in-chief, General, also called Jarnail.
Though he participated, planned or led dozens of battles, his most ferocious opponents were the Afghans. For centuries, Afghans would attack, loot, rape and plunder India.
Tumblr media
They would enter India through the Kyber pass.
Tumblr media
Hari Singh Nalwa took the Afghans on in the famed Battle of Jamrud in 1836, conclusively drove them away, and build a fort in Jamrud to ensure Khyber Pass was sealed for ever.
Tumblr media
It is said that the Afghans weren't scared of the Brits, the Russians or the Americans - the three superpowers who tried to control them, but they were shit scared of Hari Singh Nalwa. It is also said that Afghan mothers used to threaten pesky kids that if they didn't mind their manners, Hari Singh Nalwa would come down to teach them a lesson. This is hard to believe, but harder still not to believe!
During his time, this is how big the Sikh empire became. He was, at various times, the Governor of Kashmir, Peshawar and Hazara.
Tumblr media
He was also considered an able administrator. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had so much trust and faith in him as a loyal administrator that he allowed Hari Singh Nalwa to mint coins in his name.
Tumblr media
Hari Singh Nalwa was also a town planner and architect. One of the towns founded by him is Haripur, which is still extant in Pakistan.
Tumblr media
The story of his death is an unbelievable tale. In 1837, Dost Mohammed Khan, another Afghan, attacked Peshawar with a vast army. Though Hari Singh Nalwa was down with fever and camping elsewhere, he left for Peshawar immediately, sending request to Ranjit Singh for urgent reinforcements.
In Peshawar, he was fatally wounded and died. Before dying, he ordered his faithful lieutenants not to tell any one that he was dying. In order to boost the morale of his troops, he walked to the rampart of the fort so that enemy could see him and died standing in that posture.
Tumblr media
The sight of Hari Singh Nalwa sent shivers down the Afghans. They waited one week before they realised he was dead. By that time, reinforcements had arrived. Hari Singh Nalwa lived a glorious life and died a glorious death.

Independence Day Quotes to share with your friends
Probably the biggest majority rules system on the planet, India will commend its 74th Independence Day on fifteenth of August, 2020. This day denotes the memorable event when the nation at long last broke the shackles of abuse and picked up autonomy from the British realm in the year 1947.
The British standard was built up in India through East India Company in the year 1757 and the Company practiced command over India for a long time. The battle for 'Aazadi' (opportunity) from the British Raj really started with the Indian Revolt of 1987, which is otherwise called the Indian Mutiny. The British played the stunt of "separation and rule strategy" as gradually, India went under direct British standard as the Britishers bit by bit reinforced their hold over the country.
To liberate the country from the shackles of the British Raj, a few political dissidents experienced unfathomable torment and yielded their lives for the opportunity of India. The absolute most prominent political dissidents that our country has ever seen incorporate (yet are not restricted to) Neta Ji Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey, Mahatma Gandhi, Rani LakshiBai, Sarojini Naidu, Chandra Shekhar Azad and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. They showed massive fearlessness and courage and rebelled against the British domain to request opportunity for their darling country. The peaceful and common rebellion development drove by Matama Gandhi alongside different contenders of India compelled the British to leave India.
Consequently, Independence Day is commended with most extreme intensity, zing and a feeling of nationalism to stamp the countless penances of the political dissidents of India and respect the way that we are living in a free India. All through the nation, banner raising services are led and exceptional projects are facilitated, concentrating on regarding the political dissidents.
On the morning of 15 August, the head administrator of India spreads out the national banner at a service at the Red Fort landmark in Old Delhi, which is trailed by the recitation of Jana Gana Mana (the national song of praise of India). The PM gets a stupendous salute from the gatekeeper of respect at his appearance and the headliner starts after the lifting of the Tiranga. The executive at that point conveys a broadcast address to the nation. The festivals of 15 August have additionally gotten interchangeable with kite recording the country over.
As the worldwide emergency waits on, the Ministry of Health Affairs has given a rule to guarantee that the Independence Day festivities are finished remembering the careful steps against the pandemic. Notwithstanding, don't let the pandemic hose your spirits of nationalism. BACK TO SCHOOL-II
My journey with Little Angels’ School had ended. And it was time to choose a new path. For any parent, maybe this is one of the most challenging decisions-which school to put your child in. There is little scope of error. So, they had to take in several opinions. I had briefed them about my friends’ decision. And it was obvious that I wanted to be at a place with familiar faces.
But getting into any school is not a cakewalk. One needs to prove himself/herself worthy of studying there. The knowledge and skill level of each aspiring student was tested by an Entrance test. This is a common practice in every educational institutions, more competitive these days. So, I was made to appear for the entrance test. Not one, but about three, for various schools. After a few days, when I asked them about the results, I was just told, “Fine!” My family doesn’t like to discuss my good results. Not because they don’t like to praise me, but they do so remind me of the fact that no matter what your results are, you have to keep on working, regardless of praise or criticism, good or bad. I didn’t get it at that time, but over the years, by some experience,I understood the message that was being conveyed. This was to be taught later at school also…
So, it was final now. Stewart School was going to be my new destination. And “Stewartonian” was going to be my new identity. Established in 1882 by Dr. William Day Stewart,Stewart School, Cuttack is one of the oldest schools in the state of Odisha, and also the eldest among the four Stewart Schools in the state. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who was born and brought up in Cuttack, was also an alumnus of this school.
But I was unaware of all this. I was just relying on my slight confidence and experience of what a school is. On top of that, when your parents assure you by saying , “Come on, you are a grown-up now”, tears which are just about to roll down your cheeks, suddenly retrace their way back into the eyes. Now that the bombshell was dropped, you don’t have an option.
Blue shirt, grey shorts, navy blue tie, grey socks and black shoes, this was my uniform now. My prized possessions for my entire lifetime. Throughout my journey at Stewart School, I was made to inculcate the habit of taking care of my uniform, and ensuring that was tidy. This habit I had developed and always stuck to it. I had also sometimes avoided my games period in order to keep it spick and span. On the last day of my school, when all were busy getting their shirts signed by my dear teachers, I preferred a notebook, reason being the same!!
The first day, my first steps into my new school, all crystal clear images afresh in my mind. The first person I met, was a well-built tall person, in a yellow uniform. Our security uncle, smiling, and wishing all, “Good Morning!” It is aptly said that if you see a smiling face, you feel a sense of optimism and a sense of comfort throughout the day. Though I shyly walked away from uncle, but that seemed to be a wonderful welcome for me at my new school.
An entirely new concept awaited me here. Unlike my previous school, the students here were divided into four sections-A,B,C and D. On the first day of the new session, one had to dash in through the crowd to find out which section one was in. And I had joined in mid-session, so I was the lone person, standing with Mummy, trying to find my section from my officials. After sometime, I was told that I was assigned section I-’B’. As I was walking through the school campus, holding Mummy’s hand and wandering about the significance of these English alphabets here, I reached my new classroom. My new class teacher, after a brief conversation with Mummy, smiled and let me in. She introduced me to my new friends of I-’B’. I had got my new friends, had they also?
I was made to sit beside a girl, on the second row. Shy I was, I didn’t dare to ask her name. But during the recess, when I was trying to open my tiffin box, it seemed as if Mummy had put in her entire might in closing it. My new friend, just smiled, asked for the box, and opened it easily. We then, had a chat and introduced ourselves ad this was how I had my first friend here.
There were several new, interesting concepts here. One of them was the concept of a class monitor. I found that after our class teacher, the monitor was the second-in-command. Walking around the class at free will, with a ruler in hand, after our class teacher, the monitor had the power to punish anyone. This was interesting… On enquiring more, I got to know that a class monitor is appointed by the class teacher for helping her in maintaining discipline in the class. Also, a class monitor has the responsibility of helping the class teacher in all her work. After knowing all this, somehow, I felt the urge to get this post. I wanted to be a class monitor. But just saying doesn’t do the job.
One more interesting thing here was the annual class decoration competition. By now, it had been well established in my class that I could be trusted with anything in the world but drawing. And this annual class decoration competition was just about that. Each student had to make a beautiful chart paper presentation on a pre-decided theme and it was to be pasted on the walls of the classroom. The best class received an award from Principal Ma’m at a special function. We were all asked to prepare charts. I was in a fix what to do, when again, Mummy came to my rescue. Mummy had an artistic hand, and she loves painting. She took up this mammoth task of creating the chart paper presentation. Tell me anything except drawing and I would be ready for it. For the class decoration, all of us contributed small amounts to buy a table cloth and a pen stand, which would add to the magnificence of a teacher’s table. That year my section received the second prize…
Few people at that time knew that I was a singer. It was two years then when I was having my music lessons. But those who knew insisted that I should participate in the annual function. One of those, even secretly gave my name to the cultural department. When I was called from the class for the auditions, I was visibly surprised. I was asked to sing the prayer song which we song everyday before our class begins. After hearing just a single line, our music teacher said, “Great! You are selected!”
Annual functions is perhaps the most awaited day for any school student. The entire mood of the school changes a month before. Hustle and bustle all over, students and teachers busy preparing for the various cultural activities, it is the dream of almost every school student to feature in the annual function of one’s school. And I had got the opportunity from the very first year itself!! I don’t remember a single year as a Stewartonian, when I was not a part of the annual function. This was fun. You make several new friends in the process, and get the blessings of several teachers too.. The first year, dressed in a green, frilled shirt, I remember singing the song, “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands,…”. The clap that follows your performance is just so pleasing. Perhaps some of the best memories during those ten years were due the annual days only.
In all this fun and excitement, I always ensured that I followed each and every word of my teacher to the best of my ability. Perhaps that earned me the title of ,”Most disciplined child”. No matter what, I have always tried to stick to this principle of mine till date.
My journey as a Stewartonian began wonderfully. Let’s see what comes next…

Happy International Mother Language Day! Basha Diwas. Here are Six Things I love About my Mother Language~Bangla. 1.How can you talk about language and not mention Literature? The literature that has immerged from my Mother Language is quite simply put exquisite. Some of the greatest works of literature from India have been originally written in Bangla. Tagore, Saratchandra, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Ashapura Devi and so many more have written brilliant stories and immortal characters. Swipe to see some of my favourite works of Bengali literature. 2. I might be biased but Bangla sounds so sweet. A mishti bhasa. Even fighting sounds good in Bangla...not galaa gaali (cursing) but arguing doesn't sound so bad. 3. The music of this land is so varied and while I don't really understand a lot of it, I love the range of it. There is literally a song for every mood and situation. There is even a song for sweeping.. for jhadooing. ☺️ The romantic songs are just 🥰 no wonder Bengalis are so prone to fall in bhalobasha! 4. The thing that makes me super proud of being from this land, from Bengal is the sacrifice my people have made for this country and it's fight for freedom. The known names, and the thousands nameless faceless who gave up their lives for this country. 5. The cinema made in our language has touched millions across the globe. The cinema and sensibility of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Aparna Sen, Rituparna Ghosh have made Indian cinema proud. Hehe also the massy OTT cinema is a thing of joy...marbo ekhane lash porbe shoshane is a work of genius. 6. Most of all I love the people that speak this language. The Bengalis. Sure we can sometimes be an argumentative and occasionally aatel lot, but man there have been some incredible people born in this land. People who've made this world a better place. Tagore, Ray, Subhash Chandra Bose, Amartya Sen, Kadambini Ganguly, Nazrul Islam, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Vivekananda , Sarojini Naidu, JC Bose... honestly I could go on and on. I mean my people died for their language and the right to speak their language. So proud to come from this land and it's people. . . . #internationalmotherlanguageday (at West Bengal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLjxd0cpu9n/?igshid=bb0svob2xssf

The morning song of India!
In 1905, Rabindranath Tagore was the editor of a Calcutta based magazine called Tattwabodhini Patrika, the official publication of Brahmo Samaj. In that magazine's February edition, a Bengali song debuted. It was titled Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata. It had 5 stanzas and was an invocation to the Supreme Lord, the dispenser (Bidhata) of India's (Bharoto) destiny (Bhagyo).
It was first publicly recited in 1911-12, by Rabindranath Tagore's niece, Sarala Devi Chowdhurani, at the convention of the Indian National Congress in Calcutta.
In 1919, Rabindranath Tagore himself sung this song in the Besant Theological College, Madanapalle. They liked it so much that they requested him to translate the song in English. He did, and called this translated version The morning song of India!
The college sings this song as its morning prayer even today.
Tumblr media
In 1942, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose selected this song, by then commonly referred to as Jana Gana Mana, as the national anthem of Independent India. Captain Ram Singh Thakur, a soldier in INA (Indian National Army), composed its music as we know it today. Captain Ram Singh Thakur also wrote and composed music for the fiesty, patriotic song - Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja.
On the night of 14th August, 1947, the Indian Constituent Assembly met for the first time as a sovereign body and concluded its agenda with recitation of Jana Gana Mana.
On 24th January, 1950, the Constituent Assembly of India, officially adopted the 1st stanza of Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata, also called The morning song of India, now called Jana Gana Mana, as the national anthem of India.
There is a controversy that alludes that Rabindranath Tagore composed this song welcoming King George V to India in 1915. There are numerous accounts that refute this premise, including Rabindranath Tagore's own account. The confusion seems to have arisen because a different song, "Badshah Humara" written in Hindi by Rambhuj Chaudhary, was sung on the same occasion in praise of the monarch. Rabindranath Tagore himself says later, "That Lord of Destiny, that Reader of the Collective Mind of India, that Perennial Guide, could never be George V, George VI, or any other George."
In 1913, Rabindranath Tagore became the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize in Literature for his book - Gitanjali, which contains two of my favorite poems - Ekla Chalo Re and Where the mind is without fear.
In 1915, he was knighted by the British king, George V, but he renounced it in 1919 as a protest against the Jalianwalabagh massacre.
7th May was the poet-writer-composer-painter- humanitarian-freedom fighter-patriot-Nobel Laureate and a jewel of India's 159th birth anniversary.
In his memory, I translate the first stanza of The morning song of India as follows:
Victory to the ruler of the minds of all people,
Dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of the Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha,
Of the Dravida, Utkala and Bengal.
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
It mingles in the music of the Jamuna and Ganges
And is chanted by the waves of the Indian Ocean.
We extoll your name,
We pray for your blessings,
We sing your praise.
The fate of people of this land is in your hand,
O! dispenser of India's destiny.
May victory be yours!
May victory be yours!
May victory be yours!
Let's hear it in Gurudeb's own voice...

While physical get-togethers to mark India’s Independence Day may not be possible this year in the light of the pandemic, virtual celebrations seem to pave the way forward, with interactive exhibitions about the history of the National Anthem, the times and influences of Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi. Bharat Ratna awarded musical maestros connecting freedom with their music are just a few clicks away.
Google Arts and Culture is presenting these digital exhibits, in partnership with Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata (a Ministry of Culture museum), Indian Music Experience Museum, Bengaluru, and Museum of Art and Photography, Bengaluru.
Here are some journeys to take virtually on Google Arts and Culture as you remember the freedom struggle and India’s liberation from centuries of colonial rule.
“10 Things to Know About the National Anthem”
This story features snippets of history about the National Anthem of India, like how its origin is from Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengali song ‘Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata’, an English translation by him called ‘The Morning Song of India’, the involvement of Subhash Chandra Bose in its selection, and a few inspirations in modern-day.
“Legends of Indian Music and their Memorabilia” by Indian Music Experience Museum, Bengaluru
The exhibit showcases the quartet of Bharat Ratna awardees, who are associated with India, freedom, and music. M.S. Subbulakshmi was Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite musician and held fund-raisers for the Independence Movement. Ravi Shankar was known for his raga “Mohan Kauns”, conceived as a tribute to Gandhi upon news of his death. Bismillah Khan performed with his shehnai on 15 Aug 1947, in the welcoming of freedom to India. Bhimsen Joshi was the voice of ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’, the iconic 80s audio-visual experience, the core message of which was “unity in diversity”.
“Making the Mahatma” by Museum of Art & Photography, Bengaluru
Mahatma Gandhi has influenced not just key thinkers and writers with his involvement in the freedom movement, but a plethora of visual imagery that captured his personal and social life. The availability of lithographic presses that helped mass produce images, and cameras allowed to capture a moment as is, inspired the creation of posters, photographic records, artworks, caricatures, and more to be created. Museum of Art and Photography highlights a selection of works, such as Gandhi’s portrait on a map of India, a collage of cutouts depicting his journey from life to death, calendar prints that iconized him, and events and associated personalities from his life envisioned metaphorically in posters.
“Rabindranath Tagore” by Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata, Ministry of Culture
Tagore was the first non-European and first Indian to be awarded a Nobel Prize in 1913. Soon after in 1915, he was honored with a knighthood by the British. However, following the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in 1919, he denounced the knighthood in protest. The Victoria Memorial Hall houses a collection of portrait drawings, photographs including Tagore with Gandhi, and manuscripts of songs and letters written by him, and invites viewers to explore the life of Tagore with this online homage this Independence Day.

Assembly of class 2A
An assembly was held by students of class 2 A yesterday on the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose and Republic Day. The anchors Kiyan Sharma and Vardaan Wadhwa anchored the assembly. The assembly began with a prayer followed by the thought of the day. Dwij Patel shared an informative speech on Netaji. Students dressed as Netaji, Rani Laxmibai, Mahatma Gandhi and Mother India came on stage and spoke a few lines on the freedom struggle of India and the role of each freedom fighter. Students loved the dance performance on the song ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’. Aarav Choksi gave a detailed speech on Republic Day. Such meaningful and informative assemblies teach students about the National Festivals of India and the significant role played by Netaji in awakening the consciousness of Indians. The assembly ended with a rendition of Vande Mataram.
