OC Questions with Phoenix
Questions taken from this post! Sorry if there are any typos, this was super long and I’m tired lmao
1) Their age?
19
2) Their sexuality/sexual preference?
He struggled with it for a while, but now he’s openly pansexual. Anyone who’s nice to him for a while he’ll become attracted to
3) Any siblings?
Phoenix has a little brother called Baxter! Baxter is 12 years old. They have a great sibling relationship; they trust each other and always look out for one another
4) Their favourite season?
Autumn/Winter. He hates being too hot and sweating, and he loves wearing sweaters cuz he’s insecure about his arms
5) Who were/are their parents/guardians?
His parents were an artist and a musician, but they both died when he was 8-9 years old. His foster parents do not get along with him at all and they have arguments on the daily. Since joining the Lunar Bond, Phoenix lives with the other members and doesn’t visit them at all; he only sees his brother outside of the house
6) Their gender?
Cis male
7) Their date of birth?
3rd September! (side note; I always do a drawing for his birthday, I’ll be sure to post it here this year!)
8) What clothing style?
He prioritises being comfy over everything else. He always wears a pair of ripped black skinny jeans and old, beaten up sneakers. He’ll often wear a long sleeved t-shirt or an oversized hoodie/sweater; the biggest one he owns goes down to his knees! He’ll also sometimes wear earrings (he has a cartilage piercing and both lobes pierced). He’ll never wear anything in public that shows off his arms or legs
9) What is their favourite food after a break up?
No food. He doesn’t eat. He might drink some water if he gets a headache from thirst. And he’ll spend the rest of the time crying or sleeping. He’s melodramatic help him
10) Their favourite thing to do after a break up?
As mentioned earlier, crying and sleeping. Also listening to sad music. Help him please I’m begging
11) What happens in “the honeymoon phase” for this character?
He’s constantly buying gifts. And wants to see them every day. He becomes incredibly clingy and can sometimes get jealous. He’ll basically do anything for his S/O. He’ll turn up unannounced on their doorstep with flowers. Nobody in the Lunar Bond expects him to be like this at all, as his initial personality is so cold. However he is the most romantic person in the Lunar Bond by a long shot
12) How many serious relationships have they been in?
Three; one when he was 14-16, one from when he was 16-17 and one from recently to present day  👀
13) What is their nationality?
The Lunar Bond universe is set in a world different from our own, so I’ll just write the equivalent nationality. He’s white British
14) What languages do they speak?
He really wants to learn a language, however at the moment he only speaks English
15) What is their profession/education?
He’s currently a NEET. He dropped out of school due to anxiety and doesn’t have a job because he recently moved to the city and is too afraid to apply. In school, he did exceptionally well; he’s incredibly clever and always got straight A’s in all his classes. Perhaps when he comes out of his shell a little he’ll get a job doing something he loves
16) Their favourite comfort food?
Soup. Especially chicken noodle soup, as his mother used to make it for him. He’ll always have a bowl of soup if he’s feeling down
17) What is a food they hate?
Not a food, but he can’t stand coffee. He absolutely hates the bitter taste and can’t drink it because the caffeine makes him jittery
18) Their music taste?
Anything. His phone has all kinds of music, from contemporary pop to rock to classical to jazz. His father being a musician really helped him open his eyes to a broad range of music. The only kind of music he won’t listen to is screamo, as it’s too “noisy”. He has a preference towards calm songs as they help him feel relaxed, but he’ll listen to anything
19) Is there a story behind their name/meaning?
(For this question, I’ll write about the process of naming Phoenix!)
Originally, Phoenix’s name came from a name generator. I was struggling to find a name suitable for my main character that wasn’t too safe but also wasn’t too wacky and wild to the point where it wasn’t realistic, and it also had to suit the character. Once I saw the name Phoenix I just knew it fit him perfectly. At the start of the Lunar Bond story, he feels like he doesn’t suit his name; a Phoenix is fiery and always comes back after death and he feels that he is none of those things. However as the story progresses, Phoenix always rises back up after being knocked down. And as he opens up to his new friends, he becomes passionate and fiery about keeping them safe and close to him. He grows in the story to suit his name; he rises back up after every failure, and has the fire in his heart to protect those close to him
20) Something they do that seems childish to others?
He frequently gets lost in make believe worlds in his head. These mostly come from books he’s been reading, as he loves adventure and fantasy books. He’ll zone out for 30-90 minutes and daydream about being a part of a fantasy world; some people around him think that it’s childish as he’s not grounded in reality
21) What is their all time favourite TV show?
He doesn’t watch TV. At all. He didn’t really watch TV when he was younger either. He plays video games occasionally, but he mainly reads books or watches films
22) What is their all time favourite movie?
(I’ll write the real-world equivalent of Phoenix’s favourite films here!)
It changes depending on his mood. Hes indecisive and can’t choose a favourite. If he wants to relax, he likes animated films like Kiki’s Delivery Service. He also likes superhero movies like The Avengers. He also likes classics like The Shining.
23) How big is their family?
Incredibly small. His only blood relative he has left is his brother Baxter. Both his parents were only children, so he doesn’t have any aunts, uncles or cousins. Both his sets of grandparents died when he was very young
24) Are they close to anyone specific in their family?
As his only remaining blood relative, Phoenix is very close to Baxter. They tell each other everything and not a day goes by where they don’t talk to each other, at least on the phone or through texts. For the majority of his life, Baxter saw Phoenix as more of a parent figure as oppose to a brother as Phoenix would always look after him. Baxter also doesn’t remember his parents so relies on Phoenix to tell him about them and what they were like
25) Have they got any allergies?
Not in terms of food, but his skin is incredibly sensitive. He can’t use products that are too scented or he’ll get a rash. He also can’t use aftershave for the same reason, so he’s stuck using the same soaps that he knows for a fact won’t irritate his skin
26) Are they an emotional person?
Yes. He’s incredibly emotional. However, he won’t let it show in front of other people. To people who don’t know him well, Phoenix is cold, stoic and sharp tongued, and pushes away those who try and get close to him. He’s terrified of getting hurt, so he doesn’t allow people near him. On the inside, Phoenix is lonely and begging for someone to support him. When he’s alone, he lets out all of his emotions. He’ll punch a pillow if he’s angry, he’ll cry himself to sleep if he’s sad, he’ll giggle like a schoolboy if he’s happy. There’s only one person who can see straight through him... 👀
27) Do they get angry/lose their temper quickly?
He doesn’t get angry easily, but he’s easily irritated. He will never yell at someone or start an argument unless they’ve really touched a nerve. He will never start a physical fight with someone either. His anxiety makes him easily irritable, so he might tell someone sternly to leave him alone but that’s about as far as it goes the majority of the time
28) What are some of their guilty pleasures?
Animated films, and when he was a kid he was secretly into musical films aimed predominately at young girls (e.g. High School Musical). He still knows all the words to the songs to this day
29) Do they have pets? Do they want pets?
Phoenix hasn’t had a pet since he had a hamster when he was 5. When he moves into his own house he’d absolutely love to have a cat. Or 2. Or 5. He loves cats! He can’t have one right now though because Chase is allergic
30) Do they like kids? Do they want kids/have kids?
He doesn’t mind children. He doesn’t love them or hate them. He’s very good at looking after children/babysitting because he looked after Baxter for so long. However he doesn’t want his own children because he would worry about them all the time
31) Who’s cuddle buddy are they?
Spoilers 🤐 🤐 🤐
32) Do they have any tattoos?
No. He’s terrified of needles so he’s never getting a tattoo
33) Do they have any piercings?
Only the ear piercings I mentioned earlier!
34) What is their hair colour? Is this their natural colour?
Phoenix’s hair is a light-ish brown colour, which is his natural colour. Minami is desperate to dye his hair but he always says no
35) Do they like musicals?
Other than the teen musicals he watched in secret as a kid? Sure! He has to be in the right mood to watch a musical though. He only watches musicals that are made into films; he’d be way too intimidated to go and watch one on stage
36) Do they like marmite?
He tolerates it. He doesn’t love it or hate it. He’ll eat it if it’s there but he won’t go and buy a jar of it
37) Do they like glitter?
Not really. He thinks it’s too messy and he likes to keep stuff tidy. He’s let Minami put glitter on his face before though
38) Do they believe in the supernatural?
Phoenix is the kind of person to be totally sceptical of supernatural stuff, but then the minute something vaguely spooky happens he’ll freak out and run away
39) Have they ever seen a dead body?
Yes. Wont go into details because spoilers  🤐 🤐 🤐
40) Have they ever had a near death experience?
Being a member of the Lunar Bond is a constant near death experience
41) Have they ever broken a bone?
Yes. As a kid he broke his leg while climbing a tree in the forest. The worst part was that because he was alone and didn’t have a phone, he was found 2 and a half hours later by his mother as she was wondering where he was
42) What are they like when they’re drunk/what kind of drunk are they?
An overly emotional drunk. All his feelings come spilling out everywhere and he’ll be crying or laughing hysterically or yelling. If he has an S/O he’ll become even more clingy than he is usually
43) Did they ever get drunk while underage?
Yes. He got drunk with his ex-boyfriend when he was 15. Nothing too bad happened; he just ended up spending 3 hours telling said ex-boyfriend how much he loves him. Technically in some countries he’s still underage (however the drinking age where he lives is 18 so it’s all good!)
44) What is the first thing they do when they wake up?
He checks the time on his phone so he knows what day it is and what time it is, as he’s been known to spend a long time sleeping. He’ll then make himself some tea
45) Do they consider themselves to be popular?
Absolutely not. Phoenix spends a lot of time worrying that his new friends in the Lunar Bond don’t actually like him, and that they’re being nice because they feel like they have to be nice to their teammate. Among the members of the Lunar Bond, he’s actually fairly popular and thought of highly; but he’ll never believe them if they say that to his face
46) How do they like their tea/coffee?
Tea: Depends on the type. He’ll drink loose leaf teas slightly weaker as they have a stronger flavour, so brewing time is lessened. He drinks green tea fairly strong. Some teas such as vanilla rooibos he’ll drink black, but other teas such as Lady Grey he’ll add some milk. Some teas such as Lapsang Souchong he’ll drink weaker with a little sugar
Coffee: In the trash. Where it belongs. At least in his opinion
47) What do they smell like?
Lemon and tea tree body wash, as that’s the only one he likes that doesn’t irritate his skin. Also second hand books
48) Are they a virgin?
No, but don’t tell him I told you that
49) Do they wear glasses/contacts?
He needs reading glasses as he’s slightly long sighted, but it’s not so bad that he has to wear them all the time. He wears them fairly often as he’s nearly always reading, and he just forgets to take them off
50) Are they good at remembering significant dates, such as birthdays or anniversaries?
Yes. He doesn’t even need to write them down. He remembers dates from weird things, such as when he got his new glasses or when he got his ears pierced. He never forgets a birthday or anniversary and always buys gifts far ahead of time

7 Things That Surprised me About Japan
Story by Taylor Banks from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan
Despite having studied Japanese culture and language for around three years, the MU journalism abroad program through Waseda has been my first opportunity to see Japanese life firsthand. Here are the 7 things that surprised me the most—in no particular order—about life in Japan.
1. The slippers:
Tumblr media
I have always known that it is a Japanese custom to take off your shoes before entering a home. However, I was not aware of the fact that you also must change into a pair of slippers before entering. I didn’t know that this also applied to dorms and even some restaurants.
Upon entering the bathroom in the dorm, you must change out of those slippers and put on a pair of rubber sandals. You change back into the slippers just before you leave the bathroom. However, it is uncommon for the Japanese to wear shower shoes in the shower. Note that the toilets and the showers are in separate, unconnected rooms.
In traditional Japanese restaurants, you are expected to take off your shoes before entering a booth. If you leave the designated eating area, they may actually give you another pair of slippers to use just to walk through the hallway.
2. The swastikas:
Tumblr media
In Japan, you will occasionally see swastikas on merchandise, maps, and temples. This is because in Japan, the swastika is a symbol for Buddhist temples. The use of the swastika in Buddhism predates WWII and has existed since antiquity. It in NO way refers to Nazi Germany or the genocide of Jewish people.
As a Westerner, I jump out of my skin a little everytime I come across a swastika. In fact, I cannot think of a more offensive symbol by American standards. However, it is important to acknowledge that the swastika means something different here and does not carry the negative stigma that it carries in the West. The Japanese are not Nazis.
3. Most people in Japan rely solely on public transportation:
Tumblr media
If you live in Japan, you’ll discover very quickly that the majority of Japanese people do not own a car and many don’t even have a driver’s license. There are car services and taxis, but they are very expensive. As a result, almost everybody travels by train. In fact, it seems that the closer you are to a station, the more shops, restaurants, and people that you see.
The trains are very reliable and stop EXACTLY as scheduled unless there is a delay of some kind. They can be very crowded, and they wait for no one.
The various different rail lines never cease to confuse me, and on many occasions, I would have been screwed if I didn't know how to ask where to go in Japanese.
4. The Shower Room:
Tumblr media
The dorm shower is community style. I was surprised to find that only 3 of the shower stalls were private. The other showers are faucets lined across the wall by a small mirror hung at thigh level. The positioning confused me until I saw girls taking the plastic stools from the corner of the room and using them as chairs while they faced the mirror and washed themselves.
I assumed that the private showers would always be the first ones to be taken, but I was shocked by the fact that most of the girls from Japan and other parts of Asia—which is almost everybody— consistently chose the public showers over the private ones.
I have been aware of the sauna and onsen culture in Japan for some time now, but whenever I see a large group of girls congregating together naked in the same bath tub chatting it up, it triggers my culture shock.
Keep in mind that most of these girls just met in March, and they are all comfortable with being naked together like that, nobody feels self-conscious about their bodies, and nobody sees it as homoerotic in any shape or form. Never in a million years would that happen in the U.S.
5.   The Japanese REALLY love America:
Tumblr media
Despite the rocky history that the U.S. has had with Japan so far, it is obvious upon going to Japan that the majority of Japanese harbor no hard feelings against the U.S. and to the contrary, most likely love America more than a lot of Americans do.
On any given day in Japan, you will see people of all ages wearing clothing or accessories with American flags, city names, flags, sports teams, colleges, and many even flat out have U.S.A written on it.
It is incredibly common, and that is before you take into account the obsession with Disney and The Peanuts cartoons. It is crazy to think that you can find way more Disney and Peanuts merchandise in Japan than you could ever find in the U.S. It is everywhere!
Before I came to Japan, I struggled to find things to bring as souvenirs that would come off as American, but in Japan, I see a lot more merchandise with stars and stripes than I did in the U.S.
They also are obsessed with baseball! On any given day in Tokorozawa—where I live—there are posters of the Saitama Seibu Lions team lining the streets. Not to mention, they play the lion’s team song on the loudspeaker throughout town practically all day every day.
The Japanese also play American music often, and I found several teenagers who are obsessed with Kanye West.
I have faced absolutely NO hostility for being American in Japan, and to my surprise, a Japanese college student told me straight up that he thought that America was, “the greatest nation in the world.”
6.  The food:
Tumblr media
The restaurants usually have large portions for prices that are cheaper than most restaurants in the U.S. However, the grocery store is a different story. There are not a lot of choices at the store, especially not of dairy products or meat, but you can get some of the weirdest seafood ever.
Also, it is not unusual to have a full-bodied fish with eyes, fins, and everything else looking at you at the dinner table. They also like to keep all of the legs and the head on the shrimp.
I’ve heard stories about people eating shrimp and fish while they are still alive too, but I’ve never seen it.
I think the weirdest thing that I’ve seen so far was at a tofu restaurant in Kyoto. There was a pot of soy milk—they have practically no real dairy here—sitting in the center of the table on a heat plate. It was divided into three sections. My first thought was that it would harden into tofu blocks. That wasn't the case, though. The sole purpose of the pot was to heat the milk so that the strange film forms at the top. I thought that they were just removing the film before eating—like I usually do when I make hot chocolate—but they were actually removing the milk film to dip it in soy sauce and eat it. Upon witnessing it, I burst out into laughter. To me, it is like grilling chicken just for the sake of eating the char marks afterward. I couldn’t believe it!
7.  The lines between what is age appropriate seem blurred and non-existent:
Tumblr media
In the West, there comes a point where culturally you are supposed to dress a certain way in order to avoid looking childish. Older people are also expected to act a certain way, and when they are caught doing something that some might deem as childish, they are embarrassed. In Japan, it doesn’t seem like there is such a cultural expectation based on age.
For example, adult women occasionally dress like little girls in an attempt to be cute. The frilly doll-like dresses are sold in a lot of places, but it is rare to actually see them worn.  Some women will stand outside in frilly maid costumes to attract male customers. They don’t appear sexy from a Western perspective, but I believe that older Japanese men may beg to differ.
Adult men will occasionally wear clothing with Disney characters or Star Wars characters that look like it was bought from the kid’s section at the store.
If you go to an arcade, the majority of people there are actually adults many of which appear to be in their 50s. They like to smoke a cigarette and play the games while wearing a suit. It is truly a bizarre sight.
Even the old businessmen in suits can be caught playing Pokemon on a DS or with a stuffed Disney keychain hanging from their briefcase.
It is also expensive to live alone, so a lot of adults in their late 20s and 30s remain unmarried and living with their parents.
In the U.S. we have a culture where the second guys hit college, they are encouraged to become frat boy stereotypes that playfully compete with each other by how much they can drink or how many girls they can sleep with. That doesn’t exist in Japan. It seems that Japanese boys often are too shy to adopt that mentality. Most of them do smoke cigarettes though.
In America, it is mostly older people that smoke cigarettes, but in Japan it is everyone. To see so many young men and women smoking is jarring in my opinion. Not to mention, you could do it in any restaurant here! They occasionally limit it to smoking sections or rooms, but you still usually smell it.
I hope that you learned something new from this post. I will continue to keep you posted. As we say in Japan, またね!See you later!

Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Directed by: Reza Badiyi
Written by: Ashley Gable and Thomas A. Swyden
Starring: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendan, Anthony Head, Charisma Carpenter, David Boreanaz, Mercedes McNab, Armin Shimerman, and Clea Duvall
Welcome to the penultimate episode of season one, in which feeling figuratively invisible leads to be literally invisible. And batshit. Also, Angel is back briefly to conveniently forward the season arc. But who cares because fashurn!
Outfit 1
Tumblr media
I loved this outfit. I even had something close to it. I had a plain white t-shirt and a knee length pink skirt. The cut of the t-shirt wasn’t the same, because the cut was so fucking hard for me to find. The skirt was a little different - Buffy’s is a cherry pattern. Mine was floral. It was one of those lined skirts with a sheer overlay that were so coveted in 1997-1998. It also had a frill around the hem. But it was close enough.
Tumblr media
Sadly I did not have the boots. Buffy wears these boots or similar in most episodes of season 1. I wanted them so badly. But tragically I could not.
Real talk - my legs are ok. But I have small feet and defined calves. And I know what you might be thinking. You’re thinking ‘so?’ or ‘what does that mean?’ Well, I’ll tell you what it means. It means knee high leather boots were not possible for me. I’d try on a size 7 boot, try to zip them up, and have them stop halfway up my calf. The tears wouldn’t come then, no, not in a shoe shop or department store. They’d come later. At home. But also some times in a shoe or department store. So I usually wore sneakers with my ‘Buffy outfit’ much like I did with my ‘Dharma outfit.’
But don’t worry about Little Sallie because I’m ok now. Years later I found some boots that zipped during the ‘pirate boots’ craze of 2006. And you can find stretchier versions of knee high and over the knee boots now. Also I don’t really want to wear knee high boots any more. Though given late 90s fashion is seeping back into our consciousness I’ll probably end up fighting tears in a shoe or department store very soon.
Tumblr media
Her hair here is great. Is it more blonde?
Tumblr media
The jacket from Never Kill a Boy on the First Date appears to be back and it is not unwelcome.
Xander and Willow appear to be matching again. When this happens it never seems to be Xander dressing better. It’s always Willow dressing worse. Though to be fair this isn’t bad from Xander.
Tumblr media
Giles’ tie deserves attention.
And we do have a wonderful reference to them being the Scooby Gang.
Tumblr media
I want that shirt. I have a thing for t-shirts. I’m something of a collector. Mostly because they’re usually white and I spill a lot of food on them. I went through a phase of buying vintage t-shirts and band t-shirts. Not buying a band t-shirt at a gig was like the proverbial tree falling in the forest: did it happen at all?
Cordelia is looking quite presidential in this episode, which makes sense given she’s vying for May Queen with... Nobody. She’s decided to serve up some Jackie Kennedy realness for the campaign, which I like.
Tumblr media
This is during the campaign. Harmony is trying to match without overshadowing. She is doing a very good job because no one would look at her and Cordelia and think she’s winning any elections with a mess like that. No wonder she gets pushed down the stairs.
Outfit 2
Tumblr media
I can’t tell if this is a brown leather jacket or a black leather jacket.
Tumblr media
This is blurry, so it’s unclear, but is she wearing some kind of leather pantsuit for hunting? Has Harmony inspired Buffy and if so, are we still in the nightmare realm from last episode?
Tumblr media
It might be black. But still. The high ponytail is good.
Tumblr media
Cordelia is looking royal as fuck. I think this was during a time when the whole Shakespeare-style, punk princess kind of thing was in. It may have started with Romeo + Juliet and continued into films like 10 Things I Hate About You and Gwyneth Paltrow’s awards style after Shakespeare In Love. This appears to be crushed velvet, probably designed to crush Cordy’s enemies.
Outfit 3
Tumblr media
Cordelia is winning everything this episode. Buffy’s look is... Ok. But Cordelia’s game is too strong. This is what she wore when she was officially elected May Queen. It is incredible.
Buffy, meanwhile, is not doing well. It feels like she’s half-dressed for school and half-dressed for slayage. It’s too matchy-matchy for my liking.
Tumblr media
There’s also a jacket. This fifty shades of blue look is making me blue. As in sad. I do love those sunglasses.
Tumblr media
Cordelia is doing the slaying here. You can’t see it here but she’s matched the dress with a yellow ribbon headband. Buffy should be paying more attention. This appeals to me a lot because I do love a nod to the 50s and 60s. I had a similar dress to this around 2007. It’s white with gold thread and I don’t think it fits anymore, which is depressing. I liked to wear it while holding one of those old school champagne glasses. The glass would preferably be filled with champagne. And refilled regularly.
Tumblr media
We should all be paying attention to Giles’ tie game, which is very strong.
This week’s villain is a girl who was ignored so much at school she became invisible, meaning you don’t always need superpowers or an invisibility cloak or a cyborg body to become invisible. Just a shitty high school experience.
This is Marcie, the girl in question, pre-invisibility:
Tumblr media
This is Marcie post-invisibility:
Tumblr media
I feel very bad for Marcie. High school is bullshit. But it’s ok because after Buffy stops her from mutilating Cordelia at the Coronation she's taken away to be trained as an assassin. WHICH IS AWESOME.
Outfit 4
Tumblr media
I wear things like this to work, but without the boots. And weird graphic on the t-shirt.
Tumblr media
Buffy’s hair looks pretty much flawless here.
Xander’s shirt seems about right.
It’s post-election and Cordelia is back to her pre-campaign wardrobe.
Tumblr media
Pretty sure I saw this at H&M last week. That should scare me, but it doesn’t. Maybe I’m settling in to middle age.
And that’s it! Next up is the season finale. We’re now just one episode away from... Buffy’s haircut. You have no idea how excited I am.
Until then, Slayerettes.

Background (Carissa and Imani)
Okay so here is a little background on my MC’s for The Royal Romance and Endless Summer!
Carissa Stein
Carissa Stein is the MC in TRR. She is 24 years old and is originally from Huntington Beach, California. She has an older brother named Ezekiel and a younger sister named Imani. Her parents are, currently, unnamed. Growing up, she enjoyed being out in nature (especially the beach). She was the more artistically inclined sibling and studied theatre and music in college. She got a scholarship for vocal performance to a private college in San Diego. After she graduated college, she moved to New York in hopes of joining a theatre troupe. Unfortunately, none of the shows that she had gotten into lasted very long (or paid very well) so she worked at the bar on the side. She had been in New York for about 3 years before leaving for Cordonia.
Carissa is African-American. Her father is a second generation German-Jew from Pennsylvania and her mother was born in Zimbabwe but moved to Florida when she was 7. They both worked very hard to pull themselves out of the lower middle class. Her father was a lawyer (and very good at it) while her mother was a professor of marine biology. They both pushed all three of the children to excel at their talents. They were proud of Carissa for getting a scholarship in vocal performance but were also disappointed in her not continuing her education at a conservatory. Carissa felt that if she got into a prestigious Broadway show, it would help to show them that this is a fruitful career.
Carissa is about 5′6, the shortest of her siblings (they used to tease her a lot about it). Her hair is dark brown and curly. However, in the first TRR book, she had it straightened and dyed at the tips. She decided to let it go natural because it was better for her hair than getting it straightened all the time (and Drake liked it curly). Carissa has the body of a dancer and is pretty lean. She enjoys dancing and took ballet classes for 13 years before she left for college. She is usually one of the more attractive females in the room. Her sense of style is more for comfort than looking good. Living in the spotlight in Cordonia changed that though. She is most comfortable in a pair of jeans/leggings, a t-shirt, and flip flops or Converse. Cordonia has helped her appreciate fashion a little more but she does enjoy not having to put a lot of effort into looking “presentable”.
Personality wise, she loves to tease her friends. Carissa is a true ambient. Her Myers-Briggs personality type is INFP. Most of the time, it takes her a bit of time to open up to new people but when she is thrown into a situation where she knows nobody, she has learned to take risks and open up to make friends. She tries not to show how easily she is hurt by people’s words and does a good job at it. This was a hurdle that she had to get over because being in show business means that she needs to be able to take criticism, even if it is harsh, well. Her younger sister, Imani, was always her harshest critic and helped her learn to not let words cut deep. She is also very loyal and will treat close friends like family. However, if she will cut people off if they hurt her. Carissa, usually, sees the good side in everyone and really hurts her when they show a side that is completely different from what she sees. This is why she is so drawn to Drake. He puts up a tough exterior but she is able to see past that. She is also drawn to his loyalty to his friends which she really admires. A lot of people in her life have not been loyal or kept their promises to her. Sadly, her family had a huge fight, which is part of the reason why she went to find work in New York instead of in Los Angeles. She has not spoken to any of them since she went to New York. Getting the opportunity to go to Cordonia was, in a sense, a fresh start. Being in the states, she met people that constantly reminded her of her family. She thought that she could maybe escape this by leaving for Cordonia. (Which she did because the people she has met along the way are nothing like her family). Carissa is kind of a party animal and honestly enjoys alcohol. She doesn’t drink to get drunk (most of the time) but likes the taste of it. She has a very infectious smile and laugh. Her friends, back in the States, found her very comedic in her mannerisms and the facial expressions that she made. She is also an excellent storyteller. The way she speaks enraptures the listeners and leaves them wanting to hear more. She tends to exaggerate her stories slightly in order to give them more excitement and appeal.
Carissa has only had one serious relationship. It was with one of her costars in the first show that she got a role in. It lasted about a year and a half and ended because he got an offer to go on tour with a major theatre company. Carissa tells people that it ended mutually but he was the one to make the decision that long-distance would not work. Since then, she hasn’t been with anyone besides the rare one-night stands that her friends would convince her to have. She never really found any of the guys that she met interesting or “boyfriend material” until she met Drake. Falling for Drake is thrilling for her because she has never felt a connecting this strong with anyone in her life.
Imani Stein
Imani Stein is the MC in Endless Summer. She is 20 years old. Being the youngest of her siblings, she was used to be treated as a baby. This continued through her teenage years when her parents would give her strict curfews and more restrictions than her siblings had at the same age. Because of this, she would rebel and sneak out of the house at night to go surfing or go hang out at bars (using her sister Carissa’s ID). Her decision to move across the country and go to Hartfield University is part of the reason why the family had that huge fight. They had a lot of expectations of her and would not pay for her college if she wasn’t going to use her brain for something big. This pissed Imani off and all she could do was talk about how they pressured her too hard to be the best in areas she didn’t want to be the best in. Her siblings tried to convince her to just listen to the parents until she was done with college (which is what they did) but she wanted to do things her way. Originally, her parents were going to allow her to minor in photography and film but they saw how stubborn she was and cut her off. Growing up, Imani was the star student. Her IQ was found to be 153. She could have skipped a couple of grades but her parents thought it was better for her to stay with kids her age. However, they did make her take advanced math and science classes in high school. Her mom had her doing outside math program and was pressuring her to try for medical school. She ended up becoming very withdrawn and distant from her parents as time went on because of how they only seemed to love her when she was getting A’s. She also felt that her siblings were too busy and too old to spend time talking to her so she never reached out when they moved away. Her brother, Ezekiel, is in the Navy and had left for deployment shortly after she graduated from high school. She was closest with him, even though he was 7 years older, because they had very similar personalities. Both of them are very charismatic and feisty (both of their Myers-Briggs are ENFP). Ezekiel pushed her to excel in athletics. He taught her the basics of fighting (which was good because Imani has a tendency to push the wrong peoples’ buttons). Ezekiel kind of regretted it when she was younger because she would turn to using her fists instead of her words when she got mad. whoops. Her relationship with Carissa is not as strong because Carissa was “too sensitive” for Imani’s tastes. Imani is very blunt and when they were younger, Carissa was easily offended by what she would say.
Imani is highly independent and follows her passions rather than what would be most stable. Her most long lasting passion was photography and modeling. In high school, she took photography classes and learned that she was pretty damn good at it. Sometimes she would ditch school and drive to open castings for models and would land a few jobs. She put away a good portion of that money into a savings account and that is how she was able to pay for Hartfield without her parents support. Paying for college herself really helped her to become confident in herself. She excelled quickly in the film department and rose to the top. She is a natural born leader and this helped a lot for directing and telling the models/actors how she envisioned a certain shot. Most of the time, she trusts her gut instincts rather than what people tell her should be done. Because of her childhood, Imani developed a pretty bad temper. She never liked being wrong or not being the best at something, mostly out of fear that her parents would get upset. She got better at learning to control it as she got older but sometimes it creeps back into her life. One of her fears is that she will hurt someone she loves with her words. Deep down, she blames herself for what she did to her family. She hasn’t heard from them in two years but is too prideful to be the first one to reach out. Naturally, she told herself to forget about them and focus on making her name in the film/photography industry. Imani has the ability to be pretty manipulative (definitely learned this from her household). She knows exactly how much to say in order to convince someone to take her side. She also doesn’t back down from an argument, which is sometimes why she gets into physical fights. Most of the time, she can twist someone’s words around on them and tear down whatever it is keeping them in that argument. (She usually goes for the jugular and points out every one of their flaws and using their weaknesses/fears against them).
Socially, Imani is like a butterfly. She can roam from group to group and blend in seamlessly. She knows just the right things to say to get peoples’ attention to be on her. Like her sister, she is a great storyteller but she is even better at flattery. At parties in college, Diego was always able to find her because she was usually surrounded by a crowd of people. She was a social butterfly and had friends in every group. To her, the only friend she needed was Diego. He was the only one that she found able to keep up with her ideas and the adventures that she wanted to have. Whenever she had modeling gigs in another state or country, she would drag him along and use this opportunity to film their experiences. Getting to go to La Huerta seemed like the best adventure she would have that year. At night, she imagined the travel video that she would be able to make. She saw every shot in her head and how she would edit the video to make the memories last forever.
Imani is 5′8, most of her height coming from her legs. (She had the same inseam as her dad who was 5′11). In high school, she ran track and placed at each meet in the 100m sprints/hurdles and 300m hurdles. She enjoys working out and will spend at least 30 minutes in the gym each day. She spent a lot of time surfing as a teen, which definitely helped when she played quuk’tanoi. She is a quick learner when it comes to athletic skills which was helpful when Estela and Jake helped her learn how to fight against more advanced opponents. Imani wears her hair in a high ponytail or messy bun. She likes it to be out of her face because she is always out doing something. Most of the time, she enjoys wearing shorts and a tank top. Living at Hartfield made her have to adjust her sense of style for the weather. In California, she would always be in shorts and no shoes with a bikini in her car, just in case. Imani is just as beautiful as her older sister but has more youthful features and a little bit darker skin because of all the time she spends outdoors. They are similar enough that Imani has been able to use Carissa’s old ID for a few years in order to buy alcohol and get into bars. Still, Diego teases her that she is immortal because she has looked the same since she was 12 (the only thing that changed was her height and foot size).
Imani had never had an official relationship before Jake. She tended to just hook up with guys and forget about them the next day. For her, life was supposed to be one big adventure where she should have complete freedom and control over her life. (Plus she was also more attracted to older men and there weren’t any cute ones in the Hartfield area). Of course she had thought of what the perfect guy for her would be like but she didn’t think there was someone out there like that until she met Jake. She always dreamed of living on a ranch in some little town that no one knows about and a ton of animals. There would be a lot of beer and whiskey and she was surrounded completely by nature. In this imagination of hers, the guy was Scott Eastwood or one of her favorite country artists. The guy was always a little bit of an asshole towards everyone except for her. They lived a simple life but it was calm and perfect. She was immediately drawn to Jake because of his sarcastic responses and how perfectly he fit the description of her perfect life. She teases him about how when they get off the island, she won’t be able to wear her favorite heels because then she would be taller than him. (I put Jake at about 5′10).
