Trick Letters

“You know the trick to writing letters to important figures is to just write it as if you’ve been friends for a lifetime.” That was the smile laced advice from your grandpa when you were going to write a letter to an idol of yours to share on their latest works you deeply admired and were inspired by to include a sketch of said inspired work to boast maybe just a tad to said idol.

So two glasses of wine into a quiet night in a borrowed study while naked Dwarves made good use of the largest of fountains in Rivendell you sat with parchment and pen in hand to write such a letter. There was a huge leap between an Elf Lord and an Elf King, and the Elf Lord Thranduil Oropherion was said to have a mighty grudge against the Company, so if some wheels could be greased with him then perhaps some effort might be made with the Elf King through the stubborn loftily positioned Elf Lord blockading the success of this quest.

‘Thranduil Oropherion,

My dearest of friends, my how it has been ages since I have seen the likeness of you, and I find myself set upon a path to do so again. I do apologize for not writing, as the life of an artist can find rather difficult means to produce stable supplies of parchment and ink.

How is your dear Little Leaf? I have not seen him since he was knee high to a grasshopper! I do hope he has grown into your fine stature and ever just temperament, and quite selfishly upon your part a fine match to your stunning eyes.

By fine fortune I have come across a Company of Dwarves on their way to a firm sounding place named Iron Hills and am taking up your old sadly dust riddled offer of an invitation to visit for myself and whom I might find within my company upon reaching your borders.

Currently we are within the borders of Rivendell amongst the good will of another highly esteemed friend of yours, Lord Elrond, who respectably is mum upon granting news of your life as to give you the delight of sharing our time apart merely between us. I as always shall be counting the hours until I might be amongst your presence again,

Until the end of time your faithful friend,

Echo.’

“That should do it,” was confidently muttered between blows on the ink on the soon to be folded, wax sealed and messenger bird delivered letter that would have the Elf King wide eyed and staring at the letter at a loss for how he had misplaced all memories of this so called fondest of friends who thought ever so highly and possibly held a hidden romantic regard for him upon finer detailing of the wording of the letter.

And once he had regained his bearings the kingdom was to be readied for this guest who for a week he would tip toe as they did the same around vague gestures of memories of supposed years within early life they had once shared side by side much to the amusement of the confused Prince and knowing Company this Echo had traveled there with.

Fire whiskey, not the most appealing of drinks but with a barrel strapped across your chest and nothing but trees ahead in a forest holding a kingdom that was home to the Elf Lord you assured the Dwarf King and Company you had smoothed things over with. A few drinks was all you could hope to help get you over this dire task of smoothing the waters ahead to get yourself and everyone else to that dragon infested mountain beyond all of these trees you swore were intentionally closing in on you as you made camp for the night.

Loudly your teetering self gasped and pointed at a piece of artwork you imagined to never see again that tore you from following like a little duckling the statuesque guard assigned to lead you to the Throne Room. “My statue! I haven’t seen this in ages! Someone within this forest is a fan of my work!”

I’m so disappointed I loved the author’s m/m from like the first five minutes but I’m an hour into her f/f and it’s really not tailored to my tastes in the same way. why is the webcomic described entirely in prose. why is it first person. why is the ensemble cast more lackluster. why are we spending so much time with the main character and some guy. why do I have to wait so long for the love interest to actually show up. and why do I always lose.

not to code gotham as eastern europe but eastern europe is the gothic literature locus classicus so i'm in full right to do it and it's just such a good parallel because. for westerners/outsiders it looks like a literal nightmare but the locals find comfort and humour in all things that throw the foreigners off. you have to find hope in a place that the others claim to be unlivable. if you give up and leave, it will always stay in your heart like an open wound.

also it just never ceases to amaze me how there are so many similarities between gothic lit & eastern european lit of the period that we would never call 'gothic' because our ghosts and our supernatural elements are not portrayed as the Other most of the time. they're there to bring you closer to your culture and heritage. they are horrors that bring you home and connect you with your people. tell me this is not the perfect approach for gotham.

i think this is also why i hate the portrayal of the city as some unsalvageable monstrosity with no kidness to be found. often places where the circumstances seem the most dire, the cultures that are branded gruesome because of the focus on the dead produce the most loving communities, as they are needed.

#also the whole headcanon that people in gotham don't smile that is a thing in many fanfics #seems so silly but i'll stand behind it because this is how EE is #foreigners just being perpetually stunned at how people don't smile at them but are also the most hospitable folks you will ever meet #but yeah this is the thing you NEED to show the societal mentality in gotham as more collective #also this is why while i can see the appeal i don't really like the concept of jason just leaving gotham and starting a completely new life #without ever feeling like he assassinated a part of himself by never going back #*standing in the corner* they don't understand the depth of the emotional attachment to the fucked up place you come from #gotham is actually something that can be so personal #an extremely niche post #dear followers today i offer meta that caters specifically to ME #gotham #dc comics #batman #gotham love letters

Oh my god.. a letter from the traveller for me in the most ethereal handwriting i could have ever seen.. this is like a blessing to me (fainted) Please please tell my dearest traveller that her handwriting captivates me tremendously like she herself does. each letter drawn so calligraphically it makes me want to observe the whole writing for hours.. and the little star and spiral at the end are beautiful details 🩷

ngl, it’s hard to say sth to your takes so i will just offer mine (bc i have to disagree a little, sorry)

i’m not sure exactly what would cause them to wear maid dresses tbh (except for maybe social media or their partners) bc they are a piercing/tattoo studio after all, but for the sake of the hc let’s roll with it

if it’s a social media/ shop thing, heizou or venti (or some third party) would be the instigator, in private their partners most likely

heizou’s reaction would probably not differ too much between private and public, though he is obviously turning up the charm if it’s only for his partner; but yeah, he’d probably have his fun (makes for great vids of him doing girl group dances in it)

aether would just resign himself to his fate; sure it’s not sth he would’ve done on his own but he can roll with it; he’d graciously accept compliments (bc he would be getting them) but he’d get really flustered in private, especially if his partner turns the situation more intimate

i don’t think venti would whine about it all that much tbh; his normal clothing style does include some frills already so he’s not too out of his element + he knows that maid dresses enjoy a lot of popularity, so he’s definitely playing into it (especially if his partner is into it and he can fluster them with it)

xiao is definitely blushing, that’s for sure, and avoiding eye contact but he’s going with it, either bc the rest of his friends are doing it or because you asked him too; he’s a little insecure at first, since it’s very out of his comfort zone, but if you continuously and genuinely praise and reassure him, he will feel a bit better (also, since he’d do everything for his partner he would wear it again in private if you beg him enough, but he never initiates it; just don’t humiliate or make fun of him, it would break his trust in you)

i don’t think scara would throw a physical tantrum (stomping his feet etc), he’d be too busy being in his head; so if you want to take vids of him, he’s similar to xiao; it would have to be in private, you’d have to get his consent first and you can’t make fun of him; sure a bit of normal teasing would be alright but you have to understand that he’s really vulnerable right now and can’t handle you betraying the trust he places in you atm (again, praise him!!)

honestly, childe wearing a maid dress is the most believable since idols (unfortunately) have to do a lot of weird shit as part of their job; but yeah, he is great at giving people exactly what they want, so he is playing into it so hard and milking the fan service dry; and yes, he’s great at posing considering he’s had to do a lot of photo shoots before; in private he’d probably do it bc you want him to and bc he doesn’t take himself too seriously (but obviously it has to stay between the two of you… idol and all)

hi! re reading tpof and i just wanted to say that i absolutely adore this blog and your portrayal. tpof is one of my favorites and i wish more people talked about it (or knew about it in general). i’ve been developing ocs/characters of my own privately for some time now and have experience with rp elsewhere but i’m nervous to try to write here because i’m a little unfamiliar with this platform and how things work. sorry to be long winded, but what i’m getting to is my question of whether or not the rp community (in this case potc) is potentially open to accepting a tumblr rp greenhorn who kind of has no idea what they’re doing but wants to have a little fun

my siblings bought me this lovely book called for the love of paper that's basically stationary for letter writing. it's not all just for letter writing but it's what i use it for. i love it deeply especially the patterns of paper, postcards, and stickers it comes with. there's 3 books so far but i personally think the 1st one is the best. just wanted to share from one letter writer to another <3
