Plan India undertakes capacity building of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) who are trained at regional and block levels and then cascade their learning to peers and communities. These frontline workers (FLWs) coordinate, collaborate and consolidate efforts across the state to record and analyse data, identify and address gaps through grassroots level facilitation.

Plan also works with the state governments to showcase learning from other successful initiatives across India. Piloted in Rajasthan, the Mukhbir Yojana or Informant Scheme incentivises sharing of information on centres providing sex determination services or operating illegally. It is now also active in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. LGBB also works with volunteers empanelled by the State Legal Services Authority from the National Legal Awareness Programme and trained paralegals to disseminate information through Lok Adalats. The programme works with the communities on behaviour change and helps create a dialogue on roles for girls in the socio-economic context.

Active engagement with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) has led to the display of ‘Guddi-Gudda’ boards within communities that present gender-segregated data. Effective tools for behaviour change, the boards drive ownership and spark reflection within communities over the issue of declining sex ratio. Peer educators and youth clubs have emerged as the backbone for community mobilisation and facilitation of on-ground actions. With work making rapid progress at both advocacy and grassroots levels, Plan is well on its way to ensure equality for girls’ right from their inception.

Highlights

Support to develop and manage the PC&PNDT portal in Jharkhand. Called ‘Garima Jharkhand’ the portal is being used to effectively monitor 938 registered ultrasound centres and genetic laboratories such as IVF centres.

1,632 girls enrolled for government’s flagship Sukanya Samiridhi Yojna with a total deposit of Rs 63,74,200 in the name of the girls by the parents.

848 girls enrolled for state-specific girl welfare schemes such as Mukhya Mantri Sukanya Yojna in Jharkhand, Rajshree Yojana in Rajasthan, and Kanya Sumangla Yojna in Uttar Pradesh.

99,650 community members reached with messaging on girls’ rights.

3000 students benefitted through the strengthening of Child Clubs and their libraries on gender equality in 15 schools of Jaipur.

SHIMLA 5th March, 2023   Presided over Himachal Students Union Annual function at Chandigarh   Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in his address on the occasion of the annual cultural program 'Himachal Ek Jhalak' organised by Himachal Students Union, in Panjab University at Chandigarh today, exhorted the youth to carry the rich traditions and culture of Himachal Pradesh throughout the country and abroad, so that the world could imbibe and eulogize the uniqueness of our culture. The Chief Minister, said that our State is known for warm hospitality, its unique cultural heritage, its cuisine etc which have been attracting both National and International tourists since long. "It is our duty to spread our culture across national boundaries", said the Chief Minister, adding that our culture, customs and traditions also play an important role in strengthening the economy. Youth, being the real strength of the country, should channelize their boundless energy for the welfare of the State and its citizens. He urged the youth to stay away from social evil, like drugs. The Chief Minister also shared the memories of his student and political life with those present. He exhorted the students to move forward by setting a goal in the life and to make efforts to achieve the same and thereafter should contribute for the betterment of the society. The Maharashtra Government provides EBC Scholarships for economically disadvantaged students (EBC students). Also known as the Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja Fee Reimbursement Scheme, these scholarships are offered to candidates who are residents of the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Who is eligible to apply for EBC?

EBC students are individuals from the economically disadvantaged group or those who fall below the poverty line and find it difficult to meet their basic obligations and complete their education.

For students with physical disabilities, the Maharashtra government's Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance provides scholarships and technical training. Candidates pursuing graduate or doctoral degrees are eligible for this program. Candidates from the State of Maharashtra who are 40% or more disabled are eligible to apply for this award. Qualified students are invited to apply for this program by the Maharashtra government's Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance. Students at high schools who belong to a disadvantaged class are awarded scholarships. The top 2 students in grades 5 through 10 may apply. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a call to Presidents Putin and Zelensky, told them our children are stuck, says Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday while addressing an event in Gujarat recalled a story and said that PM Modi made a call to the chiefs of Russia and Ukraine to ensure that the Indians stuck in the foreign lands amid the war are safe and can be returned to home safely.

After Russia attacked on Ukraine in February this year, the military operation is in full swing and the Prime Minister of India ensured that Indians stuck in both the countries are safely returned to home. The operation Ganga was carried out to facilitate safe return of 22,500 Indian nationals, primarily including students.

"In Ukraine's Sumy and Kharkiv, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a call to Presidents Putin and Zelensky, told them our children are stuck... got the assurance that firing will not happen during that period and that is how we were able to get our children out,” said the external minister as he recalled the story of Modi during an event in Gujarat’s Surat.

He also recalled Modi’s story with other eminent personalities, Jaishankar said, "Prime Minister Modi was the only CM to understand power of Aadhar. Because of it, direct benefit transfers could become possible. CoWin portal, PM Awas Yojna, PM Gareeb Kalyan Yojna- nothing would have been possible without it."

Mr. Jaishankar also visited Surat smart city's Urban Observatory and Emergency Response Centre and shared his thoughts saying "Impressed by this state-of-the-art facility that is improving quality of living and making the city future ready. A shining example of digital delivery and smart governance of the Modi Government."
