the stobin bathroom scene is literally sacred to me and the scoops troop dynamic is <3 I complain endlessly about how the soviet storyline was implemented but the character side of things is perfect to me...adding in yet another character is so not fun for me bc they are not adding anything particularly interesting usually just sexual tension with Steve and it's usually undermining the dynamics I do care about..ppl should consider adding Eddie to like . j/ncy s3 scenes instead

GODS SAME like... fighting russians under the mall is so incredibly stupid but i love the scoops troop scenes and dynamics SO MUCH. and yeah like whenever people add another character they always want them to get captured with steve and robin (or instead of robin which like i said in my tags.... n o).

like ig there are ways you could add another person if you keep them with erica and dustin (ive done it twice for specific aus that arent published yet) but like not only does it fuck with the stobin dynamic if you have the extra person captured with stobin, but also.... each of them have a door what are you expecting a third person to do?? it makes more sense for if there is a third teen/adult for them to stay and "protect" the kids anyway like you dont need to give them torture trauma too.

its funny bc i really do love the like, actual mall aspects of eddie working at a music store and becoming friends with them/flirting with steve, but i dont need him to then join the scoops troop when the upside down shit comes knocking. i swear people love to use eddie to screw up the stobin dynamic. (another pet peeve is every s3 au where for some reason? robin and eddie are already best friends? and like gang up on steve? like just bc they're queer does not automatically mean they are going to be bffs. its pretty significant to robins character that she also seems to be kind of a loner just like steve.)

and honestly YEAH theres literally three other plotlines going on that you can add characters like eddie or others too? have them get chased and traumatized thru the hospital. have them trying to corral five 14 year olds while they try to capture and then escape a possessed billy hargrove. i think it would be very funny to throw someone in with the jopper group and have them have to fifth wheel jopper and the murray/alexei duos.

hell, make up a hellfire member who has been flayed and that eddie is trying to figure out why theyre acting so weird, and have him follow them to starcourt or st! like some of those people just fucking walked away in the middle of convos during that one scene dfifjgsdigs there are so many fun things people could do to add characters to the group and yall wanna mess with the scoops troop dynamic?

oh i totally agree. if one of them is upset, the other tries to make them laugh. and sometimes that laughter is like hysterical and basically tears! and i know in my heart they burned their uniforms, made a whole day of it. had some s’mores.

oh, and with my tags on that post, i was mostly talking about when people write others getting involved. like other people making fun of the uniform, or eddie making steve put it on because he finds it funny and sexy. which is just really fucked up to me.

omg so unfortunately that au doesn’t exist outside of discord rn!! butttt the bare bones of it is: the kids leave both steve and billy at the byers’ after their fight and go to the tunnels alone. billy wakes up, thinks he’s killed steve and dumps his body in the woods. of course steve is in fact Not Dead. the og idea had steve heaving his beaten body back home and collapsing in front of his horrified parents :)

IT REALLY IS like I think if you are genuinely trying to explore different options for his sexuality (specially him being gay or on the ace spectrum) it’s one thing, but like, the amount of fics that act like all the rumors are a lie for no discernable reason

Then the other half is them doing the thing where they want to make sex with your “soulmate” or something the most important sex you will ever have!! And the best sex you will ever have the first time you ever have sex with that person!! (which is a whole other issue - it’s okay to have embarrassing or just mid sex with your partner esp for the first time it doesn’t need to be perfect and amazing the first time) like casual sex and intimate relationship sex are different things often but that doesn’t mean one is automatically bad….

YOURE SO RIGHT ABOUT THE RELIGION TEACHER THING THO like it feels very purity culture-esque the way people talk about it. Its okay for steve to have sex and like having sex! I get that he makes a comment about wanting a lasting relationship which is fine but he doesn’t need to actually be “saved” in anyway from fucking around he can choose to stop doing that himself anytime he wants and he doesn’t! Bc casual sex is fun and is obviously something he enjoys it just isn’t filling all of his emotional needs which is also fine!!

They’re Russian spies like “The Americans”, except their cover’s been blown and now they’re on the run. Steve technically isn’t allowed to leave the county (“just tell people you didn’t get into college”, his handler suggests) and is shit scared of crossing the gov.

The only time Robin’s heard him use “do you know who my father is?” was when they were captured by Russians (they have no idea who Steve’s parents are, although his Mom would absolutely have shot them for hurting her baby).

Very interesting for Steve to KNOW they are though omg. Does he know Russian? Maybe not in order to fit in and sell the illusion. And Steve being scared on not just the American but the Russian government too?? Oh mannnn.

His parents being somehow involved with the Starcourt sub basement, and then finding out their boy (who they had for the cover, but do care for in a way) was not only captured by the general there but tortured? Coming home to see his face beat up and him telling them the mall burnt down and they know there was the secret base (not what it was for maybe) and they also know what wounds from a beating look like......someone is getting shot. Mama Harrington does not take kindly to failure, exposure, or her little boy getting his face smashed in (again).

But then Hawkins is too hot for them to stay, so they go on extended business trips that keep them away for weeks and weeks, Steve holding down the fort until things settle down again.

i've been struggling with this one for a while so thank you for forcing me to write a lil for it >:]

he's hit with the sudden realisation that they've never been able to do this before. here he stands, hand in hand with eddie in the middle of a very public street in chicago. no one even blinks an eye because this is nothing crazy to the people around them. there's nothing particularly provocative about the innocent act of holding each other's hand, but doing this in hawkins would probably lead to steve and eddie needing a trip to the hospital. and here they are, miles away from hawkins, nestled safely in the middle of a crowd of all sorts of queer people. everyone is protecting everyone else, and they are free to just be. it's like nothing he's ever experienced before.

steve starts cooking because (in line with @stregoniconiconii’s italian steve hc) he misses being in italy. he writes a letter to his family there asking for their recipes and they mail back a whole package with recipes and some cooking utensils. of course he sucks at first but he rly does miss being with his family, and hvng their food is the closest he’ll come to being back there, so he sticks with it and practices til it tastes like how he rmbrs it tasting.

when dustin and his mom start having steve for dinner (at first because he’d been babysitting dustin and it had gotten late and rly the least they could do was cook for him, and later because they liked his company and didn’t want him to be alone), he asks ma henderson for her recipes too, and she gladly walks him thru them when she has time, and sends him home with handwritten recipes.

he likes cooking and baking. he likes the routine, likes the thorough and specific steps, and as he gets better, that he can add his own spin to recipes. he likes that when he’s making the recipes, he’s connecting to the ppl who created them.

tl;dr: one of steves major love languages is food:)

still putting robin in a guest room by season 4 doesn’t make sense. They’re calling steve’s bed “the bed” robin has permanently taken over the left bedside table. Steve is constantly getting on to her about leaving her (empty) glass of water there all day. sometimes Steve puts a hand under his pillow and gets poked by the earring robin spent the last week looking for.

exactlyyyy like thats one of those details that i get tripped up on bc it’s like what do you mean….you place a wall between stobin? a whole wall? sacrilege…like maybe u have ur reasons but why

actual codependent things I think robin and steve could do because they’re kinda fucked up and traumatised:

this is actually already canon: Steve being self-sacrificing, always putting himself in danger if it means robin (and the others) will be safe. Steve making sure the Russians were focused on torturing him and not robin, being the one to swim down to Watergate instead of anyone else.

I think robin puts off applying to college because she doesn’t want to leave Steve behind in hawkins. this is her own version of self sacrifice: she’s sacrificing her happiness and freedom by choosing to stay in hawkins. she probably feels guilty when she does start sending out applications.

also kinda canon: a little too involved in each other’s romantic relationships. Steve trying to figure out if vickie likes girls through her film choices and where she pauses comes to mind.

a more toxic way this can manifest: trying to protect each other from heartbreak by trying to prevent conflict. icing out romantic interests that they don’t like, stepping into their arguments to try and sort them out for them. very “it’s you and me, me and you, and your friend Steve” energy, but not that cute.

maybe more but these are definitely the main ways it shows up in their relationship

My #1 post of 2022

I was thinking about the head canon of Steve being Italian, through his mom because Harrington is like super Irish, and I have some ideas

first off, I don’t think Steve can speak Italian super fluently. I think his mom was first generation and she worked really hard to sound American and so she didn’t really speak it at home. Steve only heard Italian when his mom was on a long distance phone call with her family back home or when she got homesick and listened to an Italian language radio station. Steve loved hanging out with his mom though, and he loved listening in on her conversations because I know my boy is a little gossip, so he picked up on understanding the language fairly well, but never really got the hang of speaking it

until, when he was like 10 years old and they went to Italy for the summer. his nonna, who he had literally only talked to on the phone, was dying and she wanted her daughter to come back home. she and Steve go together, his dad comes for a couple weeks but then has to go back to work, and they’re there for months, fully immersed. he even spends a month at school with his cousins, who he gets along with pretty well. that’s not to say it was easy at first, definitely not

Steve probably spent the first few weeks there quiet as a mouse just listening to everyone speak. everyone thought he was just a dumb American, chastising his mother for not teaching him their language, teasing him because they thought he couldn’t understand. but they all get surprised when he speaks up when one of his aunts is going in on his mom and he calls her out in actually pretty good Italian. after that, he gets included more, his cousins discover that he’s actually pretty funny besides being American. he still gets teased because his accent needs some serious work, but by the time his Nonna dies and his dad is flying down for the funeral and to take them back to America, he feels pretty damn Italian

he half hopes that he and his mom could stay here, where he has family he actually gets a long with, but his dad’s kinda mad at how native they’ve gone while he’s been gone. now he’s the odd one out and he doesn’t like it. he brings them back to hawkins and issues an Italian ban because he doesn't like not knowing what his wife and son are talking about. and then news about the affair breaks out

see, while Steve and his mom were in Italy, hanging out with family, looking after a sick old lady, and preparing for a funeral, mr harrington was getting dirty with his secretary. so now his mom is paranoid that it will happen again if he gets out of her sights so she ends up going with him on a bunch of business trips. leaving poor Steve alone. and without the practice Steve’s Italian skills go downhill until high school and he starts taking a second language

not many people choose to take Italian, more going for French or Spanish, so it’s a small class. he thought it would be easy for him, since he already knew Italian even if he was out of practice, but this wasn’t the regional Italian his mom and her family spoke, this was The Official Italian Language. so it’s not as easy as he thought it would be but he actually manages to pick it up pretty quickly. yes, Italian is one of his best classes. yes, his accent is still pretty bad

anyway I don't think Steve keeps it a secret that he’s actually pretty good at Italian but not many people know. most of the kids in hawkins are barely passing Spanish or French, the few that are good at languages don’t think of him as someone good at languages so they don’t bother him. it’s not until robin claims she can speak Italian fluently that it even comes up

basically I think Steve and robin gossip in Italian bc they love that only they know what they’re saying. Steve teaches her some of the regional dialect he grew up on, she goes holy shit this means that we can hit up Sicily on our Europe trip and Steve’s very happy about that (because yay best friends trip and also he can visit his family again!)
