ADULTS: BOTH HANDS interlocked between nipples, press down 2 inches CHILDREN 1-8: ONE HAND between nipples, press down 2 inches INFANTS: TWO FINGERS just below nipple line, press down 1.5 inches 30 compressions at 100-120 compressions per minute, allow chest to recoil between compressions, immediately follow with rescue breath

St John Ambulance raising $100,000 to setup a dialysis centre in Honiara

 There are currently registered at the National Referral Hospital, Honiara, 240 patients requiring dialysis treatment but there is no treatment available at this point in time and such patients are claimed to be dying at the rate of 1 to 2 per week.  The St John Dialysis Centre is being set-up to treat the patients who are urgently in need of treatment.  To achieve the objective, St John needs to raise funds to purchase dialysis machines at a cost of A$13,000 each, train nurses in dialysis procedures and cover set up costs.    St John Ambulance Solomon Islands has engaged the services of St John Ambulance, Malaysia, to assist with the project as they have experience in the operation of dialysis centres.    All in the Solomon Islands are earnestly requested to give generously to this very worthwhile project that will benefit many hundreds of people in the future who would not, otherwise, be able to get access to dialysis treatment.  If you would like more information on the worthwhile project please email [email protected], or Douglas Kelson MBE MES CStJ [email protected].  Yours sincerely  Frank Short  www.solomonislandsinfocus.com Read the full article

Volunteering- such an amazing component of my life that I have been doing since I was young! . . My early experiences with first aid is on of the many reason why I went into nursing! ROCK STAR OF THE DAY!

St. John Ambulance nominates Christie S. and her dog Ellie for Volunteers of the Week. They wrote ‘Christie joined our Therapy Dog Program back in February of this year.  Christie and Ellie visit at various locations including; QEII Hospital, Clairmont Youth Detox Centre, and the Youth Day Program with AHS. Christie’s background makes her a huge asset to our volunteer program. She is very patient and personable with everyone she meets.  Ellie is an adorable miniature golden doodle, who wants to be loved.  As a team they are making a huge impact in the community. I love my community. I need all the effort people put into making the community feel love and splendour. I am one of those people that likes to fearlessly smile and say hello to the people i pass in my community.
