rewatching nope (2022) today bc it's my day off and god everything about this movie is sooooooooooo. it's so good. truly can't remember the last time I was in a theater kicking my feet giggling bc a film was so well put together like truly every other minute I was staring at the screen in awe like holy shit they did that!! how did they do that that is so cool!! the sound design, the set design, the characters, the THEMES and the NARRATIVE, the blocking in certain scenes. THAT FUCKING ALIEN girl I'm sorry I'll never be normal about this movie

You know thinking on it some more Pokemon used to have an easy answer for "where did the meat come from" that they seem to have retconed themselves out of. Animals. In the first two gens of Pokemon the dex would mention real world animals every now and again (ex. Arbok killing elephants) which implied that animals were just 100% a think in the world they just weren't plot relevant or on screen. Heck a (Japanese only) in character interview in a magazine had Professor Oak note that Pokemon were "a cooler pet than any cat or dog, and much more intelligent too". Of course he also recommended using a lot of drugs (iron, zinc, etc) to help raise their combat potential and to figure out which Pokemon were strong or weak and make a team of the strongest ones you can. The whole "Power of Friendship" thing wasn't part of the franchise yet.

But back on track. Animals used to be confirmed to exist and filled in so much of the food web that it was a simple solution. Then GameFreak removed all mentions of real world animals and otherwise seem to deny that there is anything other than humans and Pokemon which creates so many lore problems and food web issues. I'm into biology and the system as it stands does not work. Just acknowledge animals are a thing and boom so many problems solved.

YEAH THE BIOLOGY SEEMS SO ODD LIKE WHAT ABOUT TINY CREATURES THAT DO IMPORTANT WORK OF POLLINATION AND SUCH, WHAT ABOUT MICROBES, HOW CAN THERE BE 1000 POKEMON WHEN THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SPECIES OF BEETLES WITH SPECIALIZED NICHES.......

but also because we only see the world from a child's perspective in-game it's possible that it's more complicated -- I agree with headcanons that Dex entries are only the species standards for most Pokemon, and there are absolutely subspecies and specialized species of every 'mon, AND like. micro-species. especially bugs

Guz already has a grub-sized Snom and mosquito-sized Masquerain in my canon, and tbh the reason professors need so much data on thousands of specimens (Gene's collected 1000+ snom, 100+ of most other creatures in SWSH and PLA) is to see size/shape/color/specialization adaptation and variations throughout a region!

also there are 100% broader categories for pokemon, like cat pokemon and horse pokemon too, which people usually just call cats/dogs/horses, so Oak saying "cats and dogs" isn't too weird I think!

Princess Tutu had a surprisingly great ending. It's almost cathartic for a story that's about stories and endings to stories to have a pretty good ending itself.

yes yes yes i know that sometimes the music IS a huge vibe for the scenario and its an absolute bop but. there's only so many edits you can make to the lyrics of the song within the animatic before you start losing me. even if the song is good if you have to write in new dialogue that i have to read within the animatic that has nothing to do with the lyrics of the song then i think you should just find a different song to do your animatic to.

What do you like about Bruce and Clark relationship in BvS and JL? Do you think they are more similar than different as characters?

clark is one of my favorite characters of all time so watching how he affects another cool character i really like in such a fundamental way is very striking to me. because clark and bruce don’t actually have any kind of relationship in either movie and they don’t technically meet as clark/superman and bruce/batman, each knowing the other and fully supportive of each other, until they defeat steppenwolf and clark helps bruce out from the motherbox base. their other encounters weren’t meetings so much as confrontations and thru those we got to experience their characters. so its more of a relative situation than relationship, the story is how one is relative to the other and how they’re changed and affected. 

the first time bruce sees clark is not him seeing clark at all, but the symbolic destructive force of his power as the superman. all throughout bvs, bruce is fueled by trauma and violence, channeling all of his colossal power on a distant, existential force. we get to see bruce descend into his trauma to the point of blindness, exacerbated by lex’s machinations ofc, but these are all feelings he’s had for twenty years, they are just channeled now, onto a facade.

bvs spends most of its energy in this mindset with bruce, but it also shows us how clark reacts to this, the same way he’s trying to figure out how to respond to the world that is as vocally vitriolic in nature as bruce-as-batman is literally violent. he tries to intimidate batman, but it doesn’t work, and then he LITERALLY tries to talk to him, but is silenced by bruce’s pure fury and expertise. he wins the fight because he’s almost mechanically surgical in his approach, and he loses the fight because there’s still a shred of human decency left inside of him. irregardless of, you know, almost being killed, clark reaches out this last final way and it clicks. 

so we get to witness someone’s absolute blinding hatred of one man turn to full penance and appreciation. and JL is the continuation of that. bruce in JL is as devoted and faithful to clark’s memory as he was determined to destroy it in bvs.

ben and henry are back. now it’s only a matter of time. what we’ll have already built  is this incredibly complex situation where two people profoundly affected each others lives. clark saved bruce’s soul and future, bruce saved clark’s life by bringing him back. we have that tiny glimpse of who they are as friends, and that’s two people extremely grateful to be in each others lives. AND THAT’S JUST THE BEGINNING.

see the thing about the adults enjoying bluey thing is that part of me really enjoys it seeing both a show meant for very little kids but isnt talking down to them and also seeing an acknowledgment that the even if something is meant for a much younger audience that doesnt mean it lacks quality (and btw part of it is having a seven year old sister but i. am infact onr of those adults who enjoy bluey) but also as someone who was in the target audience (young child) for my little pony when i enjoyed it i am shaking like a wet dog a bit begging you people to please just be normal about this and not ruin it for the target audience okay thank you.

3. What ideas come from when you were little

I have two OCs that have really stood the test of time: Akane and Kin - though their names have changed over time haha ♪ They were the first ever queer couple I made, long long loooong before I was out even to myself and shock among shocks, they're angels lol ♥ I remember I even wrote a short story about them from like - middle school probably?? as part of an assignment haha. They've been with me for a loooong time, and I'm still very fond of them 💕

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

GLaDOS is so beautiful and I am so bad at drawing machine parts jfdklsasdf. I'm determined to draw her from both games now tho! Her design in Portal 1 is so weird!! <3

19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)

Plushies, no contest. Drawings the seams and darts and stitches and wear and fluff and fabric vs. fur I just ugh it's all so satisfying! The way the cloth folds over itself or stands firm on its own over well-stuffed filling! I love plushies!! Funny enough, I rarely use them as props tho haha - that's usually things like books, cups, pencils, etc.

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy

I haven't heard the complaint in earnest in a while, just in a jokey fashion, but I really really enjoy drawing hands :) Hand expressions are so fun to me! They're just as expressive as faces - especially masked characters haha - and they're so versatile! Come in so many shapes, some hard, some rubberhose wiggly, some sharp and Shaped, but they still all emote similarly. Even just slight position changing can change the temperature of how it reads! It's a challenge for sure but it's just so satisfying >:3c

Like I enjoy existing in the world but I don't really like how it feels a majority of the time like sure there are some nice feeling things like when ur bed is extra comfy bcuz of how tired you are or the cool temperature with a light breeze and you feel urself sway with the trees and the feeling of rain etc etc

Like sure those things are amazing love em BUT if I could enjoy all the stuff without like a PHYSICAL LIVING BODY with like organs and blood and stuff then that would be like ideal peak living conditions

YEAH YEAHHH the way kurosawa just kept lingering and taking his sweet time w that scarf when he couldve wrapped it in like 5 seconds easy but he Didnt bc when does he ever get chances like this???? like how many times in those 7 years would he have been able to just be near adachi not for work but just bc he Can be and he wants to help adachi any way he can even if its as little as lending his scarf ....... and adachi seeing how kurosawa had noticed even his most unremarkable moments and seen them as his good qualities when adachi himself had been full of self-deprecation basically the entire day . i am never getting over this scene i swear to god
