I鈥檓 trying very hard not to talk about Transformers: Rise of the Beasts too much (or at all) because frankly, I don鈥檛 think anyone around here cares, but god, I just keep THINKING about it. So many things. Plot things and character things and callback things and other聽things, but also. MUSIC THINGS. So like, can I at least just mention the score for this movie? The whole thing is great, honestly, but particularly at the end of the movie, where the score songs "Till All Are One" and "Humans and Autobots United" have BEAUTIFUL callbacks to the music from the 2007 film. I鈥檓 not exaggerating when I say I almost screamed in the theater when I heard that music. You have no idea.聽Jablonsky's first TF score is still one of my all-time most favorite movie scores, I listen to it ALL THE TIME, it鈥檚 my go-to writing music, and it鈥檚 what I listen to at work when I鈥檓 really stressed out and just need a second to remember to breathe. It鈥檚 SO GOOD. And聽I just really, really love that Jongnic Bontemps found a way to honor that music in this movie, right at the perfect moment. Just. Oh my god, my FEELS.

once again realizing that Steve Jablonsky put his entire pussy into the Transformers soundtracks

So I've been listening to the Transformers soundtracks obsessively. I've been restraining myself from blabbering about them but I gotta get this one off my chest. There is a lot of play with theme in the 5 soundtracks. More than most would assume.聽 Each soundtrack is it's own individual being but it also has flashes of evolution throughout all the soundtracks.聽
There is one theme that is present in every single soundtrack in some capacity. I always thought of Bumblebee Captured as it's own separate entity when listening to the soundtracks because it's my favorite track. Its probably one of my favorite songs of all time. It's emotive, it's rich, it's dynamic. It draws me in every time.聽 This listen thru though I realize oh that's the No Sacrifice, No Victory theme. It's obvious I have no idea why I missed it. Simultaneously I got really and I do mean really into the track Optimus. The flute was so beautiful with just a hint of grief. I felt very connected.聽 And then I realized they all 3 have the same melody and felt like an absolute idiot.聽
So I kind of thought for a minute about the melody and its connections. Who is the melody associated with? What is its purpose thematically?聽 Which is when I was like Optimus, duh. There's a reason it's on all five scores. So I had the thought: why is it on Bumblebee Captured? And then it hit me.聽
It wasn't Sam's sorrow nor Bee's nor even the audience's. It was Optimus'.聽 The LAYER that adds to the story. That when Bee is captured we are hearing the raw grief of being a leader in an endless war.聽
THIS is why you shouldn't sleep on soundtracks for blockbusters. This is why you should always give things a chance.聽 My favorite song got just even more my favorite by adding a whole new layer. Someday I might analyze all the soundtracks for more of this but for now I'll hide in my hole with Optimus' theme and cry, thanks

There鈥檚 a part in John Carpenter鈥檚 Escape From New York theme sounds eerily like the Autobot theme from the 2007 Transformers score by Steve Jablonsky.
Given how closely Jablonsky鈥檚 scores tend to trend toward imitations of Zimmer鈥檚 earlier works (his mentor), I wouldn鈥檛 be surprised if he liked Carpenter鈥檚 work as well, and homaged it within the Autobots theme.

The thing about Steve Jablonsky's Transformers soundtracks is they contain the most gorgeous music in the world, which you wouldn't necessarily expect from the soundtracks to a series of movies based around a toy I played with as a kid.

To this day, I cannot believe just how good the soundtracks to Bay鈥檚 Transformers movies are. Like they are top tier soundtracks. Steve Jablonsky did not have to go as hard as he did and yet I鈥檓 so happy that he did because I get to listen to No Sacrifice, No Victory whenever I feel like it.
