Al Jarreau/Mas que nada

First thing I remember / When you came into my life / I said I'm gonna get that girl no matter what I do / Well, I guess I've been in love before / And once or twice I been on the floor / But I never loved no one the way that I love you / And it was late in the evening / And all the music seeping through
Edit: Fucking Steve Gadd on those fucking drums 🤯

Concierto: Jim Hall's Enchanting Jazz Conversation
Introduction: In the realm of jazz, certain albums are etched into the collective consciousness as masterpieces that not only showcase technical brilliance but also evoke profound emotions. “Concierto,” an album by the Jim Hall sextet, stands as a pinnacle of musical artistry, featuring an ensemble of luminaries including Paul Desmond, Chet Baker, Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd, and of…

I think some musicians get burned out thanks to them being called those who surprise us. I mean, check Peter Gabriel for instance. While he might finally release his next album, the current state of his career found him in a strange stasis in a way. Up, for instance, still his latest LP of original material, feels like a struggle. However, we should notice Gabriel probably intended the album to be this way thanks to the themes he discusses, i.e. they deserve to be told with solemnity and a lack of easiness. Moreover, there's nothing wrong with Up per se, but Peter Gabriel used to be more unexpected – where did that go? Did his success send him on the path he continues to tread, the path of a well-respected elder everyone visits for his old songs?

Swiss Flamadiddle = Single Flammed M i l l

Paul Simon: One-Trick Pony (1979)
This is the only Paul Simon record I’ll ever own and here’s six reasons why: John Tropea, Dave Grusin, Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Steve Gadd, and Ralph MacDonald. They represent a curious era I’m still getting to know and their sounds perfectly define what I think of it. Those musicians are why I discovered Simon’s soundtrack-album as some of them perform and even star in it along with The B-52′s, Lou Reed, Tiny Tim (!) and more. So when WUSB’s Joi (Hygge) discussed it on-air with her father, I knew I had to have it. (Update: I acquired it at Patchogue’s Record Stop.) What’s wild is someone at my station who’s half my age knows and appreciates Seventies jazz / fusion like I do. I’m already familiar with Tropea, Gale, and Grusin’s work (and partially Gadd) and the soul of One-Trick Pony lines up with how I personally see and feel about the Seventies, so there’ll be no dispute about me enjoying this on Simon album. Now, I’m on the lookout for the motion picture.
