*HeR changed the text on the in-game artwork - can't have an ad for cigarettes in a game for youths after all. 'Fete des menteurs' roughly translates to 'Liars' Ball'
**this is one of those irritating cases where the only source I can track down is the Mary Evans/Pictures Now image collection. Soulen's signature is visible on the piece - here it is side-by-side with an illustration he did for the Saturday Evening Post in 1932.

I haven't played Stay Tuned for Danger in years and years, and so I didn't remember much about it. except for THIS
picture the scene: it's 2001, I'm 11 years old and visiting my grandparent's for christmas, I played Treasure in the Royal Tower at a friend's house during the summer and didn't stop talking about it for months, we open presents and I get the BEST and MOST EXCITING gift: a Nancy Drew game of my very own, titled Stay Tuned for Danger.
I start playing later that day. I'm having fun, it's going great.
until,
these fucking riddles.
I think I was able to answer one of them after a bit, but then she hits me with with "soft as a petal that falls from a tree, the more I dry, the wetter I’ll be!"
I couldn't figure it out. one by one, I start pulling my relatives into the room. mom, an uncle, grandparents, an aunt, dad, a cousin. we've got 8 people packed into the computer room trying out everything we can think of and are getting nowhere.
finally, my granddad, a hero, comes through with "towel." I wouldn't say there was cheering, but definitely a couple shouts of "YES!", a high five, and multiple sighs of relief that they could all get back to what they were doing before I made sad eyes at them and asked for help with my computer game.
but then.
a THIRD riddle shows up. I'm pretty sure at that point everyone said Nope! you're on your own for this one and left before they got sucked in again, which is fair. I don't think that one had me stuck for too long thankfully, and I was able to start poking around into every corner of the prop room (which is easily the best location in the game imo)
anyway, I can still recite the towel riddle more than 20 years later, which I think tells you a lot about how long we stared at the damn thing. talk about formative experiences.

I know I’ve been silent for quite some time, mainly because I don’t like it here anymore, but the Nancy Drew fandom is much stronger here than it is elsewhere, and I just need everyone to know that Apple is now allowing emulators on the App Store, which means you can now play the first six Nancy Drew games on your iPhone or iPad via the app called ScummVM. It’s a bit finicky to get working, since iOS’s file management sucks, and you have to disable the “UseDirectSound” setting in Game #1 and #2’s “game.ini” files, but still! I’m literally playing Stay Tuned for Danger ON MY FUCKING PHONE. IM SO EXCITED!!
Also, the iPad version of the app has full iPadOS cursor support, so if you have a Smart Connector trackpad or Bluetooth mouse, you can literally play the games, as they were designed, ON AN IPAD!

if i could ask the old HeR team one question it would be whyyyy is there a disappearing eye in Mattie's calendar?? this has plagued me since childhood. And like why does it disappear when you click but then reappear when you exit the frame??
If I could ask the old HeR team two questions the second would be what the hell is that suit of armor thing in the dungeon in TRT bc child me for sure thought it was a ghost and adult me doesn't have a good explanation lol

Okay, but actually, why does Nancy Drew: Stay Tuned for Danger, from 1999, actually have the same graphics as The Sims 4 does in 2023?

Things I Never Noticed About Stay Tuned for Danger
If people have heard of Nancy after one case, then it’s a miracle she can do undercover work later on in the series without her cover being blown
Since Mattie is always losing her keys, I wonder how many copies of aunt Eloise’s house key are just floating around New York
THE PHOTOSHOPPED PICTURES
The terrifying collage of Rick making different faces *cringe*
Not gonna lie, I kind of miss when the games had a lot of random nooks to look at. Then you never know what was going to be important
Wish we could read the article in the chatter magazine on inside the mind of a celebrity stalker. Seems like it would have been beneficial considering the plot
Dwayne Powers' office building has seen better days
The characters are so out of the box in this game
Mattie’s acting is terrible
The second chances in this game put you way behind where you were actually at. This is frustratingly inconvenient
I really don’t understand the obsession with Rick, he is kind of a jerk
I never noticed that the bomb at the end spells hell
When you’re too lazy to decipher the clues so you use the gestimation method to cut the wires
I love how the set of the soap opera contains a real life soap opera between the characters
THE BRENDA CARLTON REFERENCE
You can discover Mattie’s smushed lipstick before the threat written on the mirror
Is Millie actually like mentally unstable or is she just eccentric?
I love how pretty much everyone has sent Rick a threat
This game has a ton of phone numbers but only the chocolate one is callable
The siren wail while solving the final puzzle is super annoying
Apparently Ralf works 24hr shifts
Dwayne really went from 0 to 100 real fast
