i have very, very, very severe pica. when i was a child, i ate a charcoal brick! i ate baby powder by the palm, i've peeled materials from the walls and ceiling and eaten them, i've eaten wood, i used to eat red clay. which isnt weird in itself, in the south eating clay is a thing....... white clay or red clay, depending on the region..... i never had erasers on my pencils as a kid because i kept eating them. the dry white stuff in the ceiling... i destroyed some of the ceiling in the living room to get to it so i could get it...... sheet rock.... glue...... pulling up parts of carpet.......
i ate a mothball once, im not sure how i lived through that!
as someone w. schizophrenia, ocd behaviors manifest in weird ways.
i eat ice as a way 2 curb this. but i dont chew it.... i broke a tooth that way lol..... i just let it melt. i get small pieces so sometimes i just kinda swallow em and its satisfying.

StarF's Top Ten Albums of 2023
WHAT A YEAR! I feel like as far as music 2023 got off to a somewhat slow start (with some exceptions), and then once summer hit it was banger after banger! It was definitely tough to narrow this one down, and there are plenty of great albums I wanted to include, but alas, a top ten is a top ten for a reason, so here are my ten entries! LET'S GOOO!
10. WSTR - 'Til The Wheels Fall Off
Tumblr media
I truly don't even remember how I found out about this album, but I'm glad it fell into my lap one day. I think I just heard some song on a random Spotify mix and thought "what is this?!" Turns out the entire album is just some great pop punk. It feels like old pop punk but while still having enough modern sensibilities to keep it from feeling like it's only playing into nostalgia or stuck in the past sonically.
9. NOBRO - Set Your Pussy Free
Tumblr media
This one snuck up on me! It came out right at the end of October, and I was so enamored with other albums that came out around that time (albums you'll almost certainly see later in this list, in fact), that I completely missed that it had come out! I eventually found out and was able to listen to it mid December, and NOBRO managed to sneak in as the latest entry to this list as far as me hearing it for the first time.
Don't let the potential recency bias fool you though, this album is immediate, fun, and catchy as hell. I've been saying NOBRO is the band to look out for ever since I heard their single Don't Die back in 2020, and I was correct. Between this new album and last year's Live Your Truth Shred Some Gnar NOBRO is absolutely crushing it.
8. Connor Price - Spin The Globe
Tumblr media
Okay so this is where things are going to get a little tricky. Luckily this is the only entry in the list that comes with something of an asterisk, but you're gonna have to hear me out.
Spin The Globe comes in at just shy of 20 minutes, making it barely an album - and that's being generous. The issue is that Connor Price fits into a group of artists that has been emerging ever since streaming has become the primary way of consuming music, artists that just don't drop albums.
Spin The Globe as well as "Till Next Time" are listed as 2023 albums from Connor Price (their run time together still only equaling about 35 minutes), but then in addition to these he also dropped around 21 singles in 2023 that just don't exist in any formal collection. As someone who loves listening to albums this is super frustrating, but as someone who loves listening to Connor Price I also can't deny that whatever it is he's doing, it's working.
So while I do love Spin The Globe, you can also consider this entry to be the entirety of Connor's output in 2023, because goddamn he does not miss.
7. Waterparks - Intellectual Property
Tumblr media
One of the albums that saved the early portion of the year from being super boring, Waterparks emerged with yet another collection of bangers. While I always enjoy what Waterparks have to offer, I feel like it's been awhile since they've hit my top ten, but Intellectual Property is definitely another high mark for them as they elevate from their "usually consistent" to "oh damn this is really good."
It's no surprise that the songs here are infectious as hell, catchy, and just plain fun to listen to. There have been many a time over the course of the year that I'll just be walking around and suddenly Funeral Grey is playing in my head, and every time Real Super Dark comes on I get immediately pumped.
6. Buck 65 - Super Dope
Tumblr media
This album was an absolute treat early on in the year. I remember once again just listening to some Spotify mix and the song Challenge To The Underground started playing and I immediately thought "What Buck 65 album is this from?" This lead to me finding out it was a new song, which got me stoked. Then very quickly I found out there was an entire album attached to it, which was even more exciting.
Buck 65 returns to form on Super Dope and spends the 40 minute runtime just dropping bars and having fun, a look we haven't seen from him in quite some time. 2023 was an amazing year for hip hop releases, and this one clearly resonated with me.
5. Baby Gravy - Baby Gravy 3
Tumblr media
This came out at just the right time for me personally. The last few years I've been vibing heavily with both Yung Gravy and bbno$, and even though they have plenty of collaboration before this I was specifically fiending for more. And you know what? I happened to get my wish, and it's living up to all my expectations.
Baby Gravy 3 is unabashedly fun, silly, and just an all around good time. These two work together so well and have been dropping bangers for so long that this comes across as a well oiled machine at this point, and even the tracks that I originally thought were kind of filler have grown on me, cementing this easily in my top five.
4. Chris Farren - Doom Singer
Tumblr media
The moment I heard the first single from this album, Cosmic Leash, I knew this was going to be another perfect album from Chris Farren. With a knack for weaving personal stories, navigating emotions, all while somehow keeping it light and bouncy, Chris Farren delivers an album that will have you singing along by the end of your first listen to each song. Also be sure to check out the music videos, because they are wonderful.
3. Jeff Rosenstock - HELLMODE
Tumblr media
Of course Jeff has to sit next to Chris on this list, it only makes sense. And while I definitely thought this was a shoe-in for my number one slot when it came out because HELLMODE is an incredible ride from start to finish, the next two albums came out after it and were absolute doozies, but we'll get there.
For now we're talking about Jeff Rosenstock, and how HELLMODE continues his legacy of putting out all killer, no filler records. Even though Jeff's style has been perfected over the years, each album brings its own vibes and stands out uniquely against the others, keeping them from all running together (I'm looking at you, new Front Bottoms album). HELLMODE specifically weaves throughout various Rosenstock styles and blends them together flawlessly. Whether it's the frantic BTMI!-esque engery of "HEAD," the poppy earworm that is "LIKED U BETTER," or the emotional rollercoaster of "3 SUMMERS," the one thing you can know for sure is that no matter what flavor of Rosenstock you're listening to you know it's going to rule.
2. Bear Ghost - jiminy
Tumblr media
Goodness gracious this one snuck up and absolutely blindsided me this year. I've been a fan of Bear Ghost for years and routinely come back to their music every autumn (as I think their music gives off that kind of vibe). I knew that over the past couple years I had seen a couple new singles from them here and there, but I didn't think much of it. And then one day an entire new album was just on their page.
jiminy is a front to back banger, and I've listened to it front to back countless times since it dropped in late September. It's amazing how consistent the albums sound is while every song still has its own unique thing going on. It's a blast to sing along with, it's a joy to listen to, and the stories being told throughout the songs are fascinating. I know I'm going to be listening to this one a lot going into the future, and you should too.
1. Aesop Rock - Integrated Tech Solutions
Tumblr media
This is it, this is Aes's best album since The Impossible Kid, and that's a hill I'm willing to die on. I don't know how it's possible for an artist who is so prolific to also be so consistently phenomenal. I knew I was going to like ITS from the moment it was announced and I heard the first single "Mindful Solutionism," but the grip this album had on me from the first time I played it cannot be understated. If this hadn't come out in mid-November right before Spotify stopped collecting data for Wrapped, it likely would have dominated my stats.
I can't express how impressive this thing is. In typical Aesop Rock fashion every song is a fascinating dive into unique topics you wouldn't necessarily even be thinking about otherwise, with masterful flows, intricate lyricism, and some of the smoothest and best production I've heard from a hip hop album in some time, it's just fire from front to back.

Ok all the other shit aside, can we acknowledge how Gray is talking to Turtle?
@crazy-as-a-jaybird
I think something critics often miss about media analysis is that it's not JUST about when characters are acting "badly" to each other. They are not people, they are tools. So, in the discussion of how WC portrays relationships, it's equally important to look at what the narrative thinks is healthy.
Gray Wing is quite controlling of Turtle Tail even when they get together officially in Book 2, after he spends all of Book 1 with the energy of a toxic friend who is oblivious to her needs and interests. She's supportive of him, but when it comes to supporting HER, conversations will eventually warp into being about himself.
HIS happiness as her husband (when she's mourning Bumble), HIS bond to his brother (when she's concerned about the violence), HIS love of her kits (when they seem to drop him as a dad when Tom's Sleeper Genes awaken in them)...
(On one hand as the King of Autism, I can understand this not coming easy. But if this is the case, you can LEARN how to center the emotions of other people! The narrative doesn't address it as an issue if this is supposed to be a problem of Gray having low empathy.)
And like, that's how he TREATS her. As narrative tools, Turtle Tail's character gets lost in service of the male arcs around her.
She only leaves The Settlers when Gray Wing is at a low point being rejected by Storm, for extra pain and loneliness for his arc.
Tom the Wifebeater appears to force her back to Gray Wing
She's not allowed to retain any bad feelings about HOW BADLY Gray Wing treates her in Book 1
Her feelings towards Bumble are suddenly harsh during the exile
Then emotional when the story needs an example character to represent "the angry crowd"
But then she's a person Gray Wing can convince into accepting his brother's innocence
Tom the Wifebeater gets to beat her up one last time in Book 3 so Gray Wing can have a coolboy protector moment defending her
Aaaaaaaaand then she dies. So Gray Wing can have his own dead wife to be sad about and oogle at at the end of his brother's Murder Party
And then she is replaced by Slate. So Gray Wing can move on.
Turts is a perfect broad example of WC's misogyny, from introduction to grave. It's not JUST the suffering a character goes through; it's how their personalities and motivations are downplayed in service of the men around them. She hits every trope EXCEPT Bad Mom. It's incredible.

Is Cassie's new body a rejected/disused Glamrock Foxy? The design matches the Plex variations of Foxy (orange fur, blue accents, golden eye), and you had them lying with a pile of Daycare stuff (strong ties between Foxy & the Daycare beyond just Kids Cove, as pointed out by CathuresArt et al.) </FnafTheorist>
I've had a handful of folks asking about this or thinking the animatronic is foxy, however that's not like- 100% accurate but it is close!
I have explained this in full on stream before but I probably should put it down in writing so everyone can get the ✨️lore✨️
The basic idea is that the animatronic cassie is possessing comes from a very short lived secondary band from when foxy and Bonnie were still part of the main Glamrocks. This band was designed to be like smaller, more pastel versions of the glamrocks that were still their own separate characters (think like- loony tunes vs tiny toons).
The purpose of this band was to be a more toned down alternative to the glamrocks that occasionally played at superstar theater for younger kids and those with sensory issues that still wanted live music!
So yes- the animatronic is modeld after foxy but is not quite foxy :) (I tend to call her 'Vix' in my head)

Star Flower, loner, Medic of SkyClan
She/Her, cis bisexual
Mother: Turnip
Father: One Eye
Adoptive Father: Skystar
Siblings: Unnamed, all deceased.
Design notes:
-She is styled after the Pokemon, Ogerpon
-The plants are a physical part of her body. They grow out of her.
-She is the physical embodiment of The Blazing Star.
Story notes: [Abuse CW]
-She was born as a normal kitten to a traveling band of rogues who loved to trade and spread their music. Unfortunately, this band died out to a plague, one that nearly took her own life. Desperate to save his family, her father Carrot traveled to a set of tunnels in Sanctuary Lake rumored to house a reality-bending god. He asked the god for a cure, and the god asked for his eye in return. They made the exchange, and he retrieved a glowing, golden, five pointed flower. However, he was too late to save most of his family, so the entire cure went to his surviving kit. He wasn't expecting her to survive the night given her fragile state and the dubiousness of the exchange...
-But the next morning, she was perfectly fine- great, even. If a little... odd... were those buds growing on her paws...?
-It only got stranger from there. When Carrot ended up finding more cats suffering from the plague, just a few calming purrs from his kit seemed to have them ripe and ready to go the next morning. Carrot understood then what had happened- his kit had become the cure herself. And cats were starting to look towards them more, started begging for her healing, for anything. And Carrot had lost everything... wasn't it time to start winning stuff back?
-And so, the pair became One Eye and Star Flower, for recognition's sake. The two formed their own small group, filled with cats Star Flower had healed. Star Flower loved to spread her magic where she went, to save cats from the brink of death and be showered with their love and appreciation. They felt like they owed a great debt to her, and she enjoyed that.
-She was very close with her father, even if their relationship could be strained. One Eye loved her, but to an extent, he also used her. He grew arrogant in his success, believing he had become the accomplice to a god, and began to hold that over cats who fell sick. He grew desperate for control and Star Flower was his key to that.
-One day, however, her father's group encountered the early clans. They were just beginning to settle down, work out their new rules, and declare borders. But what caught the group's attention was the near murder of a young kittypet, almost mauled to death by proto-SkyClan's leader, Skystar. Unable to heal wounds with her magic, Star Flower managed to bring the cat to a twoleg, who took her away.
-Appalled by the cruelty, Star Flower took a great interest in Skystar's group, and witnessed several of his other crimes against his cats and the other groups. As did One Eye, who, seeing the early signs of a plague, had an idea to put this cat and the other leaders in their place.
-One Eye and Star Flower joined the group, with One Eye acting as a curious loner, flattering Skystar with praise. Skystar enjoyed his company, and so One Eye grew in the rank rather quickly. He also took a great interest in Star Flower and her abilities. After murdering Tom, who insulted the cats and attempted to attack them, One Eye took the chance to take control over the group, overpowering Skystar and using Star Flower's power to keep the remaining cats in line- everything is going to be okay, you'll get your cure... if you stay in line and do as One Eye says.
-This went on for a moon, of Star Flower holding her magic over the heads of her clients to keep their loyalty towards One Eye. She would be lying if she said she didn't feel pride at it all at helping her father.
-Ultimately, One Eye was overthrown and killed when Skystar came back with reinforcements from the other clans. The rest of the rogues they'd accumulated ran off, and suddenly, Star Flower was alone. She'd never been without her father, and running would mean abandoning his grave, which she didn't want. But... this place had been a home to her for some time now, and she needed a place to stay. SkyClan had taken all of the available territory in the area, anyways, and she was in no shape to brave the other territories or twolegplace. So she offered her power to SkyClan as a peace offering and asked for shelter in return.
-Skystar was still sore from the event, but he couldn't deny that having Star Flower as an asset would be beneficial to him in the long run. And around this point, his son Thunderstar had disowned him and split off ThunderClan from SkyClan. He felt that he was losing allies, losing family, and he latched on to desperate Star Flower very quickly- as a cat who would never disobey him.
-Skystar takes Star Flower under his wing as his new child, her new ward, instating her as a medic. And because she is loyal to a fault, she won't disobey a new leader so similar to her father. And so, he pushes her to do humiliating things in front of the camp, ranging from general chores like tick baths, to forcing her to run laps around camp with an injury if she took too long to work her magic. He would take out his frustration from gatherings on her and berate her over the most menial things. He would make her withhold her power to help anyone in the clan who had displeased him. And if Star Flower ever tried to stick up for herself, all he had to do was remind her of what she did, how she helped torment his cats by holding a cure over their heads to help out her father.
-This went on for years, Star Flower becoming more and more despondent. One night, there was a particularly stressful gathering, in which Skystar got into a territorial dispute with Thunderstar over a pack of dogs ravaging the territories. He lost the dispute, came home, and immediately took it out on Star Flower, shouting at and attacking the molly for "taking too much food she didn't deserve". And something in Star Flower finally snapped, and for the first time, she didn't save a life- she took one. And another. And another. As many as what remained in Skystar's soul. She was discovered taking his very last life in his nest, while she was wondering if she could pin it on the dogs. She escaped the camp, and wandered the territory for the rest of her life.
-Unfortunately, while she finally won against Skystar in the moment, it was history who decided the victor. Sparrowstar declared that they couldn't let a tragedy like this happen ever again, and doubled down on banishing rogues. Every rogue-born cat was looked at with suspicion from then on, and as the decades began to pass, Star Flower's story became twisted and bent. As the story is told, a rogue had infiltrated SkyClan's camp asking for help, but had manipulated and charmed the leader with her prowess and rose in the ranks just high enough to take him out and attempt to claim his spot. Her story was used as a cautionary tale against rogues, warning cats against those who would infiltrate the camp and rot it from the inside. Eventually, even her true name was lost to time...
Tumblr media
Rotten Flower, Warrior of The Dark Forest
Skystar didn't hesitate to throw her in the depth of the Dark Forest when she died. She wears her mask constantly, trying to keep away from the sickness of the muck. She's embraced the false myth made about her, claiming to have killed a founder for power and prestige. But in reality, it's been so long that she's forgotten her family, her power, her name. She barely even remembers Skystar himself. Though she's admired in the Dark Forest for her achievements, she doesn't hang around anyone, and acts hostile to those who approach her.
Perhaps someone can help her remember who she truly is...?

So, your Clear Sky post is absolutely horrifying, but it was very needed, so thank you. What are your general thoughts on tackling his abuse for the AU? Like you've said, pretending he's a good guy is not the way to go, but are you planning on toning down *some* of the situations, just to give some of the cats a break? Clear Sky is a very realistic depiction of abusers, but that seems to come across even without victim number 25, yknow? I'm very curious about how you'd like to go about this.
My most recent big change was bringing Slash back into the fold, because I realized that it was actually a disservice to not address where DOTC's themes dip into Colonialism. It's a hard topic, and I'm still trying to work out the details, but I realized it was important.
With how BB!DOTC is such a MASSIVE overhaul, to properly address abuse and the ways it impacts you, ableism and its violence, and xenophobia broadly, a huge reworking of Slash belonged here too. He's one of the greatest examples of how badly WC demonizes non-Clanborn cats. I shouldn't dance around it.
That's what I need to do with Skystar.
MANY of his victims have happier endings than canon, though. Bumble is one of the most famous, bumped up into a major character and directly responsible for the formation of ThunderClan. Bright Storm is taking most of Gray Wing's roles. Birch and Alder are getting examined, with either a father who wants his kids back or Milkweed as the mate of Misty.
A lot of people will die because of him, even more will be hurt, but I see BB!DOTC as a story about victims and survivors.
Others might grab POVs here and there, but as a response to canon which I feel is Clear Sky's story told in many parts, I center this rewrite around Thunder Storm. The path of kindness he marches down, with love and with anger, and the people he helps.
So BB!Star Flower...
Previously I was playing her as ENTIRELY just manipulating Clear Sky. She was loyal to One Eye and trying to get at Skystar to bleed him dry for 8 lives to sacrifice; but connected to Thunderstar over recognizing him as a victim who deserves her idea of justice. So, she offers Thunderstar the final kill, so her father will be grateful to him and he'll get power AND the death of his abuser.
(When Thunderstar looks upon Skystar, pathetic and neutralized down to one life, he thinks about the collateral damage that will descend upon the forest if he accepts the deal. He decides that he has found the line between Justice and Justification. Of course he wants the power to make his enemies cower, protect his people, and eliminate Clear Sky so he never threatens them again; that's not the problem.
He can still do these things. He wouldn't NEED the power of a war god to do so.
But if One Eye returns, he will be endlessly hungry, ruthlessly dedicated to revenge, and set out to devour the whole forest. Everything would get worse, and even more people he loves would die. It's where his desire to destroy a monster would lead to him BECOMING one.)
Even on its face, it was previously missing an element. There's a step between "Starf decides to bring One Eye back" and "Starf offers Thunderstar the final kill" that was bare. This is the piece that was missing-- That she, herself, is trying to reach out to the only person who's ever really understood her.
But more importantly... I do feel this topic belongs here, in BB!DOTC. Abuse is a MAJOR theme. SKYSTAR is a monster already. He's harmed two wives in BB (Bright Storm and Falling Cry) and played toxic games with all three kits (Thunder Storm, Pale Sky, Tiger Sky).
And I'd avoid Star Flower being abused... why? Because it's uncomfortable to confront the pattern that Clear Sky displays? That in-canon, he tries to cut all his victims into the same ideal shape, from Storm to Thunder to Star Flower? ...it should be uncomfortable. Everything that I described in Clear Sky Is A Monster is rooted in the same desire for control, power, and punishment most abusive people share, he just happens to be a severe example.
Yes. That includes how he treats his child and romantic partners. The parallels that are drawn between Starf and Thunder are there because he wants power in the form of obedience. Starf replaces the son as a narrative award for his "growth" of not killing random people anymore for a while.
A cookie cutter is an effective tool because IT ONLY MAKES ONE SHAPE.
You know what's more uncomfortable? Reading canon!DOTC and seeing someone who hurt you reflected almost perfectly in the character the writers think did nothing wrong. Because of "good intentions" that were not there.
I will say though, just to be clear; I don't see a purpose in being more than PG-13 about serious topics for this project. I promise none of my intentions have changed. Nothing will be more graphic or gorey than canon WC-- just more intentional.
I'm keeping the sacrifice because it's dope. No one is taking this from me. Girl Moment: Killed her awful husband 8 times to count as 8 sacrifices and offered the last life to her buddy as a show of good will. How else do you make friends outside of high school
But I know now that Star Flower NEEDS to keep the canon fact she has very little agency, UNTIL that moment she snaps.
She's sacrificing one abuser to try and bring back a bigger, badder one, because in spite of everything, her father One Eye always made her feel safe. Even though he promised her off to Skystar, and expected her to be willing to die for him. She's followed every command, every order, past the death of his mortal vessel.
The first, and only, selfish choice she's ever made was in reaching out to Thunderstar to offer him the power of her father.
Thunderstar's Justice is a story about a Thunder Storm at the pinnacle of his arc, how the survivors of his Clan are settling into the new normal after the carnage of The First Battle, how Skystar's arrogance brings a violent god to the Forest... and the connection Thunderstar makes with the daughter of a monster.

I keep starting and abandoning posts that go into my drafts, as I try to stay tasteful about how fucking revolted this part makes me. Like, I'm legitimately unsure if the very relevant trauma I have is making me see things that aren't here
Tumblr media
But first we see that Star Flower is trying to ingratiate herself to the group, just after she reappears from chapter 5. Chapter 5 is about how Clear Sky is still abusive towards his son, and she comes in after stroking his ego, stressing how alone she is, and appealing to how she'll be loyal unlike his child. (She glances over at Thunder, directly implying this.)
Now in Chapter 9, she's babysitting and trying to care for Milkweed's kits (in spite of discomfort from Milkweed), taking a wet sleeping space away from the others, and pulling more than her own weight "without complaint." Putting herself through harsh sitations to prove her worth.
All while trying to appear extra attractive to Thunder, and later Clear Sky. Basically every man in power who can "protect her"
Like, am I going fucking crazy? With how we later find out that Star Flower was "promised as a mate" to One Eye's subordinate Slash, is... is that hypersexualization? One of the extremely stigmatized symptoms of sexual abuse?
She goes to find Clear Sky alone to throw herself at his paws, and he's very quickly attracted to how she promises to perfectly obey him, have no needs of her own, and finally be the perfect servant that he desires
Tumblr media
"I don't deserve your trust because I am dirt. I understand you because I also regret something. I'd die for you. I'll never betray you unlike those who have."
This isn't manipulation. She means this. The story is playing their romance sincerely. She's comparing "betraying" Thunder by telling her own father about an assassination ambush to Clear Sky's history of child abuse, physical assault, and murder
She believes she's on the same level as this; a monster who murdered a childhood friend in a fit of entitled rage. She was a victim of One Eye who really believes that the way her father used her means she "understands" this monster, deserves this treatment.
And Clear Sky LIKES that.
He likes that she will have COMPLETE FAITH in him. That she will follow him WITHOUT QUESTION. That she will OBEY his orders. That's fucking verbatim, that's THE TEXT!!!
WHILE HE'S STILL CRYING ABOUT "ive tried to atone every day" FOLLOWING THE LAST TWO BOOKS WHERE THE ONLY SHITTY THING HE DOESN'T DO IS MURDER INNOCENT WOMEN
Am I insane?? Am I wrong??? Am I missing something here???? Why the fuck is the fandom takeaway "haha sexy girl steals his dad." Did I read the same book
