Dear, Vector Prime.
Could you tell us how Victory Saber came to look like this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear Saber Shadower,
During the Autobots' battle against Dark Nova, Star Saber was ambushed by Super Megatron and his Galaman troopers. Though Star Saber fought bravely, he was unable to defeat the resurrected Emperor of Destruction; he only survived the battle through the ejection of his Brainmaster unit, which contained his consciousness. His larger body was left abandoned and lifeless, drifting through space… until it was found by Dark Nova itself. Using its arcane energies, Dark Nova imbued the empty shell with its own essence, corrupting and twisting it into Dark Saber, a servant to do the evil entity's bidding. Dark Nova even used the battle data stored within the shell to create a drone to aid Dark Saber in battle: Calamity Leo, a dark copy of Victory Leo.
Already displeased with Super Megatron's failure to defeat Star Convoy on Earth, Dark Nova concocted a new plan. Dark Saber and Calamity Leo were sent back through time to the year 2026, in the aftermath of the destruction of Deathsaurus's space fortress, with the mission of slaying Star Saber and causing a timestorm that Dark Nova could exploit to its own ends.
On his arrival in the past, Dark Saber gathered a crew of Decepticon warriors, who had been left scattered and disorganised after Deathsaurus's defeat. Leading his followers to Planet Zone, Dark Saber exploited the planet's unfinished defenses and had the other Decepticons engage the Autobots in battle, while he personally challenged Star Saber himself. Though the two were evenly matched at first, when Dark Saber combined with Calamity Leo to form the mighty Calamity Saber, he decisively overpowered Star Saber and moved to strike the killing blow.
However, Star Saber carried a power that his dark counterpart did not. Dark Saber had been created from an empty shell, and lacked the Brain Power that gave Star Saber his legendary bravery. Drawing on the power of the Brain of Courage, Star Saber struck out with all his will, disarming Calamity Saber and driving him back. The evil copy was unable to comprehend where Star Saber's surge of strength had come from, and was helpless to prevent the Autobot Supreme Commander from cutting him down with the Saber Blade; without the animating force of Dark Nova's power holding him together, Calamity Saber crumbled to dust.
Of course, the story of "Dark Saber" would not end there. Taking advantage of the fact that none of the other Decepticons had witnessed their leader's demise, Star Saber would on several occasions use optical camouflage to adopt the appearance of his loathsome copy, going undercover as a Decepticon to investigate their dealings and schemes.

Meanwhile, in my TF AU...
Ginrai: Hi
Optimus: This is mine now, I have officially adopted him
Star Saber: Well, since he is Japanese, Prime, I say I keep him
Star Convoy: I'm Japanese too!
Rodimus: *blinking*
Meanwhile...
Shuta: What are they doing with Commander Ginrai?
Carb: I think they're debating on who gets to keep him as a son...
Shuta: But, then who's going to be dad of the group?
Carb: *shrugs*
Ginrai internally: I should have stayed in Japan...stayed in school...get a degree...have a wife, kids...I wanna die...Minerva, help...

Transformers
Generation Selects
Star Convoy
by Hasbro (2019)
I bought this figure used off of a friend of mine back in late January/February 2021, and was delivered to me late February.
Gen Selects Star Convoy is a heavy retool of the ‘Power of the Primes’ Optimus Prime/Nemesis Prime mold.
I don’t know the full history of Star Convoy, but my understanding is that it’s Optimus Prime, revived and upgraded in the Japanese continuity of the Sunbow animated series, after Rodimus Prime, but before Star Convoy. Though I admit, I’m probably about this...
Tumblr media
The figure comes with the cab and trailer, two halves of a gun, and a silver Matrix.
Tumblr media
Vehicle Mode:
The cab mode is a...janky mess....I gotta be honest here this vehicle mode is not pretty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Especally if you look at it from the back.
Tumblr media
If you squint the tractor trailer does look okay.
Tumblr media
Robot Mode (Optimus Prime/ Convoy):
Optimus Prime’s core robot mode is giving off some Powermaster Optimus mode, esthetically. with the faux front chest panel, and the back being the actual cab.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However if you fold down the window portions it creates an interesting back for Optimus, but I think I prefer this configuration.
Tumblr media
The core Optimus stands well, and I’m digging his head sculpt; it’s giving off G1 toy Prime vibes.
Tumblr media
Star Convoy:
This is the real meat and potatoes here. Compressing the Optimus Prime core into a cube shape, and converting the trailer section into a larger robot body.
Once you combine the two you get a really impressive robot mode!
I’m still getting that Power Master Optimus Prime vibe from him, a little but but with his own twist. You can see parts of the trailer on his arms and legs, he’s got this cool star crest on his chest, the Autobot badges with the military stripes could have been the genesis of the Elite Guard seen in Transformers Animated, and the fact this guy has gun turrets on his shoulders is just crazy to me!
Tumblr media
It’s an impressive toy, but I have to say that Star Convoys ball-jointed ankle are a concern for me because sometimes I’m dealing with balance issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Star Convoy mode also has a great head sculpt. I’m digging the vacuum metal chevron crest, and those blue eyes just pop.
Tumblr media
The gold star crest (I suppose which puts the star in Star Convoy) looks really good, however I have an issue with it; it occasionally pops off at the top connection point and just hinges down, making handling this figure a little annoying, especially when you factor in the hinge section at the bottom point of the star is very thin, and I fear is a breakage issue.
Tumblr media
Open up the chest compartment and you see the silver Matrix.
Tumblr media
The frame without the core.
Tumblr media
Combing the gun halves and you get an upscaled version of Optimus Prime’s class ion blaster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can even combine the gun with the Matrix, and it’s even blast effect compatable!
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts:
Star Convoy is a fun toy, though not always a solid toy.
The truck mode (the cab specifically) is a disaster, and the balancing issues with the ankles, and star crest not always wanting to stay in place.
Still he makes an impressive addition to my Autobot collection.

star/op is so funny because it’s the “optimus x decepticon” trope, which is always hilarious, but also because it’s a rarepair that literally has a chapter of an official novel dedicated to it and it’s actually good.

Dear Vector Prime, do you know anything of the White Order leaders with the body-types of Dragonicus and Thunderwing? What were their names/titles? What deeds led to their deaths and entombment in the Ivory Towers?
Dear Alabaster Adventurer,
I see you’ve chosen two of the more notable leaders of the White Universe. Long before the seven colored universes were merged by the Primus Vanguard and their holy defenders organized into orders, the White Guardians watched over the inhabitants of their primordial universe. Their dedication to protecting life had led to a cosmos filled with planets untouched by the ravages of time. The bravery espoused by the Way of the White Matrix had allowed their mightiest warriors to face down even entropy itself. The world that would become known as the White Planet had long been saved from climate change, its pristine glaciers having been saved from the rulebreaker named Heat. Wherever a citizen walked, there was always a White Guardian ready to save them, from dangerous traffic, unsteady construction, and even bad nights’ sleep. When Primus first made contact with this universe, they were led by the peace-hoarding dragon, White Resolute Convoy.
For Resolute Convoy, the threat of the Specters was outweighed only by the threat of the six other universes. The heat of the Red, the sickly-sweet Purple… To him, once the Specters had been extinguished, the real threat would be the stains of his neighbors on his perfected world.
By now, many of the White Guardians had personally accompanied their counterparts into battle, and had experienced their bravery at first hand, so it should not come as a surprise to that there was little resistance when Primus himself, enraged at this disregard for his grand design, arrived in the White Universe to punish Resolute Convoy. This was said to have been the first and only time Primus brought the might of his Golden Power down on one of his own lieutenants, and it was only the disappointed gaze of Blue Brightes Convoy, Primus’ second in the duel, that saved Resolute Convoy from death. By now quite unpopular with his own people, the dragon slinked away into the wastes, never to be seen again.
Tumblr media
With no named successor, one White Guardian rose above the others to take the place of Convoy. With grinning fangs and a cocksure stalk, Daringdo took the name White Daringdo Convoy, and the mantle of leadership with it. His horrific appearance having been carved in his youth to scare off evil, the maverick Daringdo had been known to loudly introduce himself as “uncle” or “grandfather” to his foes before demanding respect, then blowing them away with his Cyclone Cannon.
As Daringdo Convoy, he was aware that his watch was merely part of a longer chain of justice, and it was thus that he took a ward, Gallant, to teach in his ways. Gallant was far more stiff than his master, more concerned with traffic statistics than the untrue stories Daringdo Convoy taught him in order to find the hidden justice within. Perhaps it was some sense of his eventual death that drove him to take a student. During a particularly vile Specter attack, Daringdo Convoy chose to stand his ground and let his subordinates escape. Intent on never backing down, in his last moments he converted the Matrix Saber into its White Matrix form, and opened it fully, exposing the attacking Specters to not just the full force of the White Star Power, but encoding their entire spectrographic data inside its crystalline core. Despite intense wounds, he died standing. A silent Gallant returned to the battlefield some days later, and at the request of his comrades became White Gallant Convoy. His only hope was to follow in his foolhardy master’s footsteps. The data White Daringdo Convoy had obtained would be shared with the other universes, becoming part of the chain of events that would end with Blue Big Convoy proposing the Joint Matrix Strategy and the birth of the Precursor Universe.
Tumblr media
For good and for ill, all former leaders of the Primus Vanguard are memorialized in the Ivory Tower. However, Resolute Convoy lost his right to enshrinement. Indeed, neophytes occasionally mistake Daringdo’s memorial for him, thinking his monstrous countenance proof of his draconic heritage. This is a mistake quickly corrected by attendants: to this day, White Resolute Convoy is the only commander struck from the records. Primus had desired a future all his own, but it would be a future with change, albeit by his own design.
Nonetheless, these two warriors are examples of the many ways justice and order can be interpreted through the lens of belief. I hope their tale has been of interest to you.
