the phrase "consuming media" gets a lot of flack on this website and while I Do Get what the ops of those posts are meaning about the like. sterilisation of media to favour mindless overconsumption instead of the creation of art and stories but every time I see those posts it makes me mad because What Else Do You Want Me To Say?

"consuming media" is a sexy two word phrase that tidly makes it so you don't have to say watching/reading/listening/viewing art/music/movies/tv/literature/podcasts/etc and you want to jettison her gift??? you want to make your and your readers lives actively harder?? why????

"call it art! that's what it is!" while yes creative products do all fall under the umbrella term of art there's two issues here. what word am I using in place of consuming. and also. actually there's two subparts to this second part. subpart one is that sometimes what ur consuming isn't necessarily "art". like. yes creative products and pursuits are inherently artistic endeavours but also sometimes its just not art. personally wouldn't call a marvel movie art but that doesn't mean that people don't watch those things

and secondly. "art" has a fairly specific connotation of "visual art" for most people, which means it fails at doing the job that "media" does, right. if I say I'm like. partaking in art. then not only do I sound so fucking pretentious but my words also have a very specific set of connotations for most people and so it's not effective as an umbrella term

so all this to say that while i get the intent behind all those posts. leave my girl alone she's doing her best and you're jettisoning her gifts :(

Something something the one person who never gives up on you no matter how hard you try to make yourself untouchable, unlovable. A person who defends you even when you don't deserve it for no other reason than the fact they care.

They care like its a contagious thing, they care so much you think there must be something wrong with them and no matter how many times you reject that care it's relentless. You think they must be stupid to care so much until you realize they're not. You end up seeing deeper than what is at the surface, the sarcasm that matches yours, the bite along with the everlasting positivity. You see it andyou can't help but love it from a distance and be overwhelmed by it up close. Something about falling in love with the qualities you thought needed a reality check. Something about being vulnerable and showing a part of yourself because that's how you love someone. Something about supporting and caring back and being hurt and being different but wanting it to work anyway. Something about staying by them no matter what, no matter how much closeness hurts sometimes because they're worth it and quickly they become the most important person in the world to you. You know them inside and out and somewhere along the way you realize they know you like that too, even when you don't understand what you're feeling, they seem to know. Something about learning to listen and learning to care and supporting each others happiness no matter how different you are. Being with the person you're most comfortable with in the world, feeling most calm in a storm when you're holding their hand. Loving each other for your differences and complimenting those qualities with your own

comics aren't fun because you get to put your blorbos in situations, comics are fun because you get to give them silly expression after silly expression and get used to drawing them 10000 times

#ramblings with major #sidenote that's a fun tidbit about character design #you have to think about what medium you're putting the character in and how that will affect the design #like for occasional epic illustrations you may be compelled to put more tiny details and that's fine #but for comics and animation where you're drawing things 1000000 times over and over again #you may find it easier to take a couple of those details off! or at least find a shortcut for them #i like comics and animation so i try to keep my designs on the simpler end (usually) (i do love me some Texture) #but another fun thing. is that there are no rules. and you can simplify Anatomy too if you want. #so i have made sam and celia so so squishy and small like 4 times now because i didn't wanna do full anatomy (especially hands) #anyway we've got some GOOD sams and celias. and a couple good alices as well <3
