“Hold still!”

It was mystifying the way Lucien nimbly dodged her, pushing her hands aside at every turn. “I’m fine, I can heal myself!” Lucien barked, although Elain detected the edge in his voice was more nerves than anger. He was bruised and battered from a troubling encounter with his brothers who had been sent at Beron’s request. Elain was determined to help his injuries, for he had defended her life with honor and a feral steadfast dominance.

“It’s the least I can do, please—” Elain couldn’t hide the irritation in her voice as she tried to locate the source of bleeding from his ribs by lifting his shirt.

“Elain—”

“Stop fighting me—”

Growing tired of their dance of avoidance, Elain launched herself at Lucien, where they landed in a tangled heap on the bed. He struggled against her, but she slapped away his hands until she found the pool of blood on his abdomen, her fingers trailing the surrounding area of the lesion. “Alright you stubborn male, is this where it hurts?”

Elain’s eyes trailed from the wound angled along his ribs, up his heaving, muscular chest, where they found his face flushed as bright as his molten hair to match, his mismatched orbs wide at her stare. Her face flickered with confusion, unsure why he was feeling so unmistakably embarrassed—until she suddenly realized exactly how she had ended up on top of him. Lucien was pinned beneath the tight grip of her thighs, as she straddled him to get the best look at his injuries.

That realization was quickly followed by the source of Lucien’s embarrassment—the hard pressure pushing between her legs. Looking down slowly, she found the evidence of Lucien’s erection outlined by the thick, long shaft clear beneath his pants and now pressed against her core.

“Oh—” Her cheeks reddened in a tidal wave of heat. “Is—is that because of me?”

Lucien answered with a groan, his hands flying to cover his face in humiliation. Elain did not move, afraid to create any additional friction between their bodies.

“Yes, Elain. Because you are touching me.”

His hands slid painfully down his face until they were gripping the sheets of the bed.

“Gods, help me, Elain. From the moment I saw you, it’s been all about you. It’s still all about you, and it will always be about you.”

There were no words. It wasn’t about what she heard leave his lips, it was entirely about what she felt radiating from his skin. It wasn’t just the powerful hardness rubbing against her core. It was his heady, salty scent flooding her in an intoxicating spell. He was burning like a furnace, raw and hungry, and she was the only one who could feed his desire. All of it unleashed, just by her touch.

Tentatively, as if afraid of scaring a cornered animal, Elain reached for one of his hands hanging onto the bed for dear life. He breathed through his nose as she dragged it to the still bleeding wound. Eyes locked on his, she motioned for him to heal his wound with his magic. He obeyed, and she did not let go of his hand as his magic hummed underneath their fingers.

“Where doesn’t it hurt?” Elain asked, softer than a whisper.

His eyes searched hers for answers, but she only looked at him expectantly, urging him to show her. Their hands were still touching. Wordlessly, Lucien pointed to his shoulder.

Delicate in a manner only Elain could be, she sank deeper into his body, leaning forward to plant her lips against the muscle he had pointed out. “Where else?” She could hear his heart rattling against his chest, fluttering faster and faster. He dragged his finger to point to the spot along his jaw, right below the jagged scar on his eye.

Elain leaned forward again, bringing her lips to kiss the spot with more pressure. When she felt the contact elicit a breathless groan, his cock straining more so against her, she couldn’t stop her tongue from flicking out to taste him along his jawline.

She looked at him again, her own chest heaving in sync with his own. “Where else?” There was a flame in his eye as he brought his finger to lips.

This time, it was Lucien who crashed into her. He kissed her—and it is all together sweet, greedy, and fiery. She had never known kissing like this before, to be drowned and burnt by it at the same time. To shudder against teeth with both wicked smiles and desperate moans. His hands are voracious the way they roam across her flesh; in a blur, he flipped them over, until she is pressed beneath him with her arms pinned above her head.

And so Elain, swollen and aching, let her mate show her just how much she was the object of all his desires.

The way some people characterise Buffy in fics like you described genuinely put me off Buffy fandom for years, it was absolutely everywhere, in Spuffy fics, in faith/buffy fics, it felt like I couldn't read a fic without the obligatory 'Buffy apologises to whoever the fuck for being so mean' and I just stopped, it was so baffling

For real its so weirdly pervasive. It genuinely blows my mind bc I totally get the urge to use your fic to call out a character/plot point you don't like, more power to you. Like I'm constantly imagining rewrites of the scenes where Xander is at his most insufferable but no one in-show is verbalising obvious holes in his bullshit (my big one is that besides a one off line from Buffy that everyone in the show ignores and a DELETED line from Giles is that NO ONE calls him on his absolutely infuriating "I was jealous of Angel being with the girl I like and I'm gonna have the gall to pretend it was bc I saw him turning evil coming" BULLSHIT)

But like. Buffy? You came out of this show and the person you had beef with and want to call out is BUFFY? THE VAMPIRE SLAYER? The protagonist of all time? Bc she's mean sometimes :( people try to apologise for trying to kill her and she's so unsympathetic :( she carries out her responsibility as the Slayer whether she wants to or not even if the person she's targeting is a character I like :( why won't she apologise. why won't she apologise. why does she insist on taking up space. why can't she just be nice all the time. yes my ao3 tag is princessspuffy why do you ask. yeah I know their relationship is abusive but I think Spike would forgive her :)

Okay, Once More With Feeling is definitely one of the better HD episodes. And yes, the seeing that Spuffy kiss in this stunning quality is amazing.

But one thing that was really lost was the way the light played with Buffy, especially in the last few scenes. The lights on Sweet's stage were extremely golden. Buffy is bathed in this light while up there with Dawn, singing about being in Heaven, and begging to be given something to sing about.

It's gorgeous. That light is behind her while she does her dance, creating an interesting contrast that helps highlight her internal struggle.

The Spuffy kiss is undeniably gorgeous in HD. It's the much prettier version. But there's still something lost. The stronger lighting behind Buffy is there throughout the scene, but Spike's lighting is different.

In the old version, the set behind Spike has a cool pale blue tone, while the set behind Buffy is golden. His face is not lit as well as hers. As the two move in for their kiss, the light is primarily behind Buffy. Almost as if she's glowing, radiating her light out onto Spike while he casts shadows on her.

The HD version adjusts Spike's background to harmonize it with the other shots. There's more pinkish and golden tones. When they move in for the kiss, the lighting is fixed to highlight more details on their faces. Beautiful, but it shifts the focus and makes it seem like the light is between them. They're both stepping into the light to share a kiss, rather than Buffy turning away from the light to embrace Spike.

It's a loss of visual meaning that's unfortunate for such a beautiful episode.

I noticed you're harsher on Bangel (which is better) than Spuffy. Which is stupid since Spike was a stalker and willing to rape her.

I don't particularly care if Bangel is better or worse than Spuffy.

Canon punishes Spike for his behavior a lot of the times in the same episode. It's important to me in the ye old times of one episode a week era, that characters who behave badly experience consequences for their behavior immediately.

Example for Spike is when he is caught sniffing around Buffy's room, Riley kicks him out into the sun. The blanket is an afterthought.

Example for Angelus's big consequence was getting stabbed and sent to hell. This was after episodes of killing and tormenting. What specifically was wrong gets lost with that much time in between.

For Angel we see him doing the best he can and he has the best intentions. But his behavior is still grooming behavior. (He can see her but she can't see him). The narrative never calls out how destructive this can be to a teenage girl. Or an adult woman. To me this makes Angel feel unsafe to watch at times. Especially before I could articulate the dangers of a groomer who didn't realize they were being abusive.

Bangel has an unparalleled intensity to it. S2 is my favorite season for a reason. Angel's grows into a person that tells Buffy about his choices even if he does not include her in the decision making process. That is a sign of respect and care from him.

As far as why I knock Angel more than Spike? Spike feels safer to watch because of the immediacy of his consequences. Also In general people are more willing to have the complex conversation about Spike. I get to work through the reactions I've had when Spike made that "dimpled knees" comment in harsh light of day.

That has not happened with Angel. Usually with Angel the reaction is black or white and I have the experience of being shut down from a longer conversation. So I'm here on my soap box, having it with myself.

sometimes i think abt the fact that s7 spuffy has to live in only implication bc of Seeing Red and it makes me hate The Hell Scene even more. Like. Intervention is the only soft, earnest kiss they EVER got to have. THE ONLY ONE EVER!!! It’s heartbreaking, like genuinely, that he fuckin DIED just as they were on the cusp of figuring out how to be together the right way.
