For two whole seasons they orbited around each other with this impending sense of collision, this hope they could find love in the strangest of conditions, in a stranger they’d never have chosen, only for that to be completely ignored??? This isn’t about ooooh heterosexual couple didn’t kiss (I will die on the bi4bi or at least Bi Ted hill fuck you) it’s about the fact that now, tons of moments are stupid as fuck! You played that with a hint of romance! You played that like something was going to happen! some ted and rebecca musings in a post-3.04 world

a thought i’m taking away from the ted/rebecca 3.04 interactions--

i think it’s so interesting how rebecca keeps taking too much from ted and yet she’s just not picking up on it. she catches that he’s not quite okay in fleeting moments and she genuinely cares, and i think she likes him so much, but then whenever she’s reminded of her rupert-induced pain, everything else goes out the window. like, i think rebecca has finally accepted as part of her reality that ted is really on her side, even if they’re not the hang-out-all-the-time super-close besties that, say, she and keeley are. maybe it even feels more powerful somehow because it's this polite, almost courtly love-style connection (ft. way more puns than your standard white knightery) but she also knows he’s pretty ride-or-die for her. biscuits with the boss is still going strong after a year and a half! (the mind boggles. think about the logistics of that!) she’s safe with him. and so asking ted to fight for her against rupert, because he’s occupied this sort of guardian angel role in her life for awhile now, feels really natural to her. and because ted has always been so supportive of her and she probably associates him with almost being a salve to the hurt that rupert inflicted on her, i don’t think it’s really occurring to her that this pressure is taking a lot out of him. (and in fairness to rebecca -- as far as we know, he hasn’t told her how he’s doing in detail for a LONG time. and he was the one who said “our” when discussing them vs. rupert in the s2 finale!) but i think that now that he’s spoken up to michelle, he might be on the way -- in the next few episodes -- to reaching his breaking point re: keeping quiet about how rebecca is stressing him out and asking too much of him. (as a friend, if not as her gaffer. and there’s a tricky space to occupy right there!) and i’m not sure how well rebecca would take that at first.

also, just for more agony: how much of their behavior might be informed by their marriages and those relationship patterns?

idk, i just think there’s a lot of good juicy tension and echoes of their s1 conflict going on here and i really hope the rest of the season explores it! please!!!! let jason s and hannah w destroy us with their beautiful acting!!!!! they have the range!!!!!! and maybe it could resolve in, oh, i don’t know, them both getting some experience in healthy communication in a human relationship as they figure it out together!

or rebecca totally got over the rupert thing when she saw him being such a consistent scrub in 3.04 and all of this is already resolved. only next week will tell!

tl;dr -- i like the idea of ted and rebecca having a lot of messy stuff to work through before they get to happier times together. (and the happier times will happen!!!!!! i’m manifesting it!!!!!! 💜) because they have truly accumulated so much mess at this point. and wouldn’t it be a shame to waste it??

disclaimer: I love ted lasso but this season fully cemented the large underlying issue I have with this show, namely its relationship problems

- sam and rebecca: I feel like there was tons of discourse when this was happening so I won't rehash it but i personally don't like how the show tried to push the narrative that there wasn't an issue with the relationship by talking about some of the glaring issues with it (age, power dynamics, etc.) within the show and attempting to counter them. I personally was against this relationship and the stress I felt this season every time they shared a loaded look took ten years off my life

jane and coach beard: red flags galore. I naively thought the show was going in a direction pre s3 where coach beard would have a storyline about getting out of this abusive relationship and was looking forward to this topic being addressed and done respectfully. I quickly realized this season that this was not the case when ted made a comment about how jane and beard's baggage fit together. I feel like this is a case of two "quirky" characters being in a relationship with red flags that are soothed over by just being like "these two people are weirdos, of course their relationship would seem weird/different" instead of just recognizing it for what it is: abusive

- jack and keeley: this was honestly the tipping point. I initially loved that they were making keeley canonly wlw (and yes, I know it can seem regressive to need a relationship for a sexuality to be "canon" but the references in earlier seasons did give me a vibe of straight humor where girls joke about experimenting in the past but it not being meant to mean anything more. maybe I am wrong to think this but given the state of media even today, sue me) and jack and keeley did have great chemistry right away. I have no problem in discussing toxic relationships, even in queer relationships, but the show irked me by having relationships such as sam/rebecca and jane/coach beard being supported by the show while the 1 wlw couple be the one where the red flags are discussed, brought up, and certified by the show by having them break up and show jack's true colors in the aftermath. to say it rubbed me the wrong way would be saying it lightly and the nicest way possible

- michelle and the therapist: yes i forgot his name. it's dr. something or whatever. the detail of ted having an aversion to therapy because his marriage counselor seemed to be against him when he went with his wife only to reveal that they started dating is just outwardly disgusting. the finale to even have him not even try to be invested in the game for michelle and henry's sakes and then have him sitting further away on his phone makes me wonder why are they even together. she doesn't seem that into it and it seemed to only be used as a plot device to show ted growing by being open and honest to his ex wife about his feelings and to be a driving force in having him feel left out of his son's life. why were they still together in the end is a mystery but I guess not shocking

Ted Lasso S3e6: Sunflowers

Alright, y’all can have a go at me for being a skeptic but I walked into season 3 every time thinking “Where the hell is this going?” Cause Love and Thunder let me down after Ragnarok and Loki Phase 4 was a let down, and GoT, HIMYM, I could go on but it breaks my heart. But fuck me head man! I should trust these folks with my life! The magic of S1 and S2 was something but I’m still sitting here smiling like an idiot, singing 🎶don’t worry, it will be alright🎶. Anyway, sorry for the rant :) Just some stuff I thought about while watching S3e6 (spoilers?) 

I was thinking I'm going to need more than one episode to convince me of Rebecca and boat man. Kinda glad it was only for one ep. Did anybody spot the GREEN BOX?
