8x01-8x03 Re-Watch Part 3

8x03:

Okay, so obviously the biggest thing in episode 3 is Morales talking to Rick. I whole-heartedly believe he is meant to be a foreshadow/proxy of Beth (once again, of Rick finding Beth inside the helicopter group) but he’s also kind of an anti-parallel because he’s antagonistic and not at all loyal to Rick, where I’m sure we can all agree that Beth will react the opposite way toward seeing Rick again.

I feel like they spend most of this scene kind of trying to prove or rub our noses in the fact that Morales = Beth. They do this mostly through dialogue. So, think of most of this as being said in some way between Beth and Rick, Rather than Morales and Rick.

Morales: “As soon as I saw you, I knew you’d made the same trip as me. From there to here. I guess we aren’t the same [people] we used to be.”

At one point, he also says, “You’re the Rick from Alexandria?” as though he’d heard of him but didn’t know it was Rick Grimes everyone was talking about. He also calls Rick “peaches.” As in peach schnapps?

When telling Rick about his past, he says, “I lost my family. I lost my mind.” I always saw that as a tie to Carol. This is really subtle, but Carol says almost that exact same thing in S2. She gets mad that everyone is walking on eggshells around her (this is at Hershel’s farm) and she says, “I lost my daughter. I didn’t lose my mind.”

And I’m not saying that Morales is necessarily a Carol proxy here, but rather that they’re putting this in to tie Beth to Sophia and the missing girl symbolism.

Morales also says, “That’s what I know.”

Rick tells him that many of the people he knew—Lori, Andrea, Glenn—are now gone. The names would probably be different for Beth, but you can see Rick telling her that since she left, they’ve lost Tyreese, Sasha, Glenn, Carl, etc.

And there are interesting symbols around them, like fishing nets and other ocean-like equipment. As well as lots of fire extinguishers.

Of course Daryl kills Morales, and that’s that.

This is also where Eric dies. Aaron actually first takes him and sets him up against the trunk of a tree. Anyone who’s read Frangipanilove’s “trunk” posts knows how significant that is.

To me, they’re just really heavily paralleling him with Beth here. And we all talked when this aired about how similar his death is to what we believe happened with Beth. Aaron returned and his body was gone. He’d wandered away. Aaron sees him as a walker.

With Beth, we don’t think she actually died and turned into a walker, but Daryl believes she did, and would have empathized heavily with Aaron at that point. Not only that, but Aaron starts trying to follow Eric and Scott stops him, even saying, “No, we gotta go. We gotta go right now.” Which was Daryl’s line to Beth at the prison.

After that, we even see Daryl in the background watching Aaron as he grieves. So this was very obviously meant to be a parallel of what happened with Beth.

Of course Aaron requests to be Gracie’s guardian, and Rick gives the baby to him. Since both Gracie and Aaron are Beth proxies, I think this is really just to relate them symbolically. Of course Aaron becomes Gracie’s dad in the show, so there’s that. But I also think this is just putting the two Beth proxies together. I genuinely hope Aaron and Beth meet and become friends. So this might foreshadow something like that as well. It’s just that most people I wanted her to meet and be friends with have now died. :/

In this episode, we also have Tara, Morgan and Jesus leading captive Saviors along the road. This is where Jarod whistles Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

At one point, Jared sees Morgan wearing Ben’s armor and remarks that it “didn’t do shit for him,” which is similar to what Daryl said to Beth about faith. I’m not sure how, exactly to interpret this. It really might not be a Beth-returning thing in this case. In both cases, someone who has passed (Hershel/Ben) is mentioned.

But then something else interesting happens: a walker with no eye attacks Morgan. This DOES suggest Sirius symbolism of some kind, and I’ve already talked about the Morgan death fake out foreshadows. So maybe this is a Beth parallel, or maybe it just points to Morgan’s arc in Fear. I’m really not sure right now.

So, if you go back and read my Sugar Plum Fairy post HERE, you’ll see that I was hoping that it meant Beth was about to appear (because we’ve always thought that; every single season). I lay out the sequence of the Nutcracker ballet, in which the Dance of the Sugar Plumb Fairy comes right before the Coda, and hoped that meant Beth would appear sometime soon after episode 3. Obviously, that didn’t happen.

But I still think I was right about the sequence. Just not about when it would happen. So I’m kind of seeing a thing where it’s Sugar Plum Fairy song, followed by the walker attack (which probably represents one or both of the wars—AOW and Whisper) and then we see the one-eyed walker which represents Sirius/Beth’s return).

So if I had to guess—and it IS just a guess—I’d say it points to Beth’s return after both the wars and also that Morgan’s death fake out is mixed up in it. And again, that’s exactly where we are in the narrative in S10. Just saying.

There’s a kind of random scene where Gregory, after leaving Gabriel back at the Sanctuary, shows up at the gates of Hilltop and wants to be let in. This is kind of random because it’s such a small potatoes scene, and doesn’t, on the surface, seem to have many TD vibes. Gregory wants to be let in. At first, Maggie says no, and most of the Hilltoppers agree with her. But then she relents and lets him in. End of scene.

The reason it caught my attention is that there are a LOT of small Beth symbols here. They tell a random story about how Gregory once ate a little girl’s sorghum pancakes. We’ve always equated pancakes to Beth because Bisquik is mentioned at Grady and it’s self-rising, which makes it a resurrection symbol. And then there’s the sorghum, which has been a prevalent symbol, especially in S6 around Denise, and a grain that alcohol can be made out of. Plus, Kal (Hilltop guy) flips Gregory off.

So I’m not entirely sure what this points to—again, probably something we don’t understand yet—but after watching the scene, I really couldn’t ignore it.

Maggie also says of Gregory, “he’s not worth killing. Not yet, anyway.” Which is a foreshadow that she will eventually kill him. Just saying.

At the end of this episode, Zeke and Carol reach Gavin’s outpost. This is where most of the Kingdomers were killed. It sort of ends on this note, with this being a cliff hanger ending to the episode, so I’ll talk about this more in the 8x04 rewatch, but it’s interesting that they were shot and killed with the guns Rick and Daryl were looking for earlier in the episode.

I’m not sure exactly how to read into that. Again, I’m assuming that the missing weapons Rick and Daryl went in looking for represent Beth, and I might be wrong about that. But if they do, it kind of suggests Rick and Daryl searching for her and she’s in some other place entirely.

I’ve said this probably foreshadows something we don’t understand yet, but it could also parallel the missing 17 days, and them looking for her body when she’d been transported to a completely different place.

Come to think of it, that’s exactly what happened with Rick as well. Michonne and Daryl searched for his body, but they were never going to find it, because he wasn’t in the area anymore. The helicopter took him away.

Hey Simmers and Simmodlers,

What’s New?

Toddlers.

Wait you skipped right to the what’s ne… what the whaaat?! Toddlers? Toddler toddlers… toddlers? Um, did you just say toddlers?

Perhaps. But the long standing ‘no talk’ of toddlers talk may be toddler blocking me. And, as such I can neither confirm nor deny their tiny toddler toddling presence in this release. I can however, say that any resemblance to a toddler in this toddler release is purely todd-idental… ler.

I am also required by the Toddler Coalition for the Betterment and Care of Toddlerhood to provide a few disclaimers:

For you and your toddler’s safety, please keep all toddlers at least 5 feet from all toddler messaging about toddlers.

In case of fire do not break glass, but grab the nearest toddler and exit the building in an orderly fashion.

Also, for a toddler lasting more than 9 days, turn aging on.

Batteries not included, so feed your toddler.

Once safe, please take a moment to find the toddlers parents if the toddler was not yours.

Well whew! We’ve just had 24 toddlers already born in these release notes (make that 25). I feel there may be more toddlers on the way… so Woohoo*!

*Woohoo will not directly produce a toddler, but provide for the groundwork for a future toddler.

Argh! So… TELL ME ABOUT TODDLERS already!!!

Ok, ok alright. All things Toddlers…

Let’s start with

“How do you get a Toddler”?

Add your toddler in Create a Sim!

You can add them to a new or existing household through Create a Sim. And customize them as you would any other Sim:

Ok, now that the Caregiver bit is over with… let’s get into the other customization options.

Select their voice, gender, and ASSIGN A RELATIONSHIP

Sorry for the caps, but this is kind of important. Toddlers have a special relationship with caregivers.

Mothers, brothers, fathers, sisters, or anyone you choose via the in game interaction Adopt as Caregiver (found under the toddlers Help… interaction menu) are caregivers.

Being a Caregiver will ensure that the caregiver Sim cares for the toddler, while other Sims may be less inclined to answer the crying calls of your average toddler.

8 new traits to pick from!

Presets for the various toddler body and head parts to assist in your customization, as well as the same ability to modify the body and face parts that other Sims have.

All the same skin tones as adults (yes, Aliens too!)

Plenty of Styled Looks to choose from.

And of course all the usual stuff…

Angelic, Fussy, Silly, Charmer, Independent, Wild, Clingy, and Inquisitive

Does it make sense that that toddler wears an alien sized diaper?

No, no it doesn’t. But, it’s really cute!

Full body outfits, tops, bottoms, socks, leggings, and shoes.

Glasses, hats, hairs (and hair colors), freckles, and teeth.

Did we talk about the new teeth yet?

Yes, teeth for all ages! Head in to Create a Sim, click on your Sims head, click the Face category, and then Teeth to customize your Sims smile.

I like the braces.

Adopt your toddler!

Choose the Household… Adopt option on the computer, to adopt your very own toddler!

They come fully toddler-ized, ready for your snuggles.

Or, if you want to do things the old fashioned way, age up your baby!

It starts with… look it’s a birds and bees thing. There’s a flower, some pollen, and the bee… um, go ask your mom.

So, now you have a toddler…

How do you care for them?

Bathe, and Bubble Bathe them. Be aware of the possible splash back.

With a Potty Chair they can Go Potty, and Ask for Potty Help… or just use their diaper.

Sleep, Nap, Ask to be Read to Sleep or Tucked in, Sit and Chat all on a Toddler Bed.

Toddlers prefer the high chair where they can Ask for Food or Drink, and of course Eat.

Be hugged, snuggled, talked or played with, or listened to.

And of course, non-toddlers will have to Clean the Potty, and Change the Diaper.

But they may find their food more fun than edible.

And as they do ‘things’ they learn skills like communication, movement, thinking, imagination, and potty.

And their caregivers can be available to mentor and help them along.

But they want to have fun to, right?

Of course, and there are many ways for toddlers to have fun, or… not.

They can cry, laugh, yell, and throw a tantrum. Or babble in the mirror, tell stories, talk about dinosaurs, princesses, superheroes, parties, art, the day, their favorite animals, or just Ask Why… over and over and over.

Or play in things, find out what that is, splash in the toilet (hopefully you are a neat Sim), ask to be picked up, or talk to strangers (stranger danger).

Maybe they want to watch toddler videos, play Simshape or Blicblock Baby, draw with llama on the Wabbit Tablet. Or build a tower, study shapes, or ask others to help them build and study with the Nesting Blocks.

They can hit, hug, or talk to their giant stuffed animals.

Read or ask to be read a toddler book.

Look at flash cards, and learn animals, basic needs, letters, or objects.

Play with the toybox toys, and the dollhouse. Dance and listen to music (including the new Lullaby and Kids radio station).

Just to name a few…

Woah, ok… um, I hate to ask but can toddlers…

No, toddlers do not die. They are fireproof.

No, no... NO! I wasn’t… look, I just wanted to know can toddlers…

Yes, they can climb stairs, run and walk – but you’ll have to improve their movement skill.

Stop that, I just wanted to know can toddlers do anything else?

Yes, toddlers can…

…be your little sister or brother, son or daughter. Try your patience. Be loving but a handful. They can take all your time, or be ignored. They can travel with you, or go to daycare. Or you can stay at home, and hire a nanny. They can provide special moments for you and your Sims. And they can grow and learn, as they age up into children, teens, young adults, adults, and eventually elders. They can’t die, but they can be taken away. And ultimately, they can be part of your Sims family, and your stories.

Anything else?

Yes, in addition to toddlers, and I strongly suggest you pick up a couple of these if you intend to have a toddler, you can find the following items in Build Mode under the Kids Room sort (just click on the 3 blocks in the image):

2 Toddler Beds

3 High Chairs

Wabbit Tablet

Nesting Blocks

Chomper the Devourer toy box

A toddler sized Dollhouse

A Bookshelf and 12 toddler books

2 Potty Chairs

6 new toy box toys (bus, kitty, bear, ducky, butterfly, and Tentacle Tom)

And…

2 Curtains, 5 wall decals, a light for floors and a light for ceilings, a dresser, a rug, a wall shelf, an end table, a wall sculpture, a living chair, 4 decorated toddler doors, AND 7 walls and 2 floors.

That sure is a lot. Did you address any issues?

Just a couple, er some, er what is five in the verbal shorthand? And is couple really short for two? It has three extra letters. I’m so confused…

You can now use the Design Tool on a bassinet containing a baby, because sometimes your baby just doesn’t match your room.

Walls can now be built along all four edges of penthouse lots, rather than just three.

We addressed an issue that could cause the game to freeze while playing the Doctor Career or when hiring a Nanny in some languages.

Confident children will no longer get a whim to practice pick-up lines.

We addressed an issue that could cause doors to be stuck ajar.

And you can’t change the baby. Put down the baby safe paint and brush, and just back away.

*childish moment* Playing doctor, hehe.

Your door is ajar.

No, it’s a door.

Jamming With Aplomb: Old Fashioned European Style Sugar Plum Jam

Sugar Plums are in season now and they're abundant. If you come across some jamming fruit (i.e. imperfect fruit or fruit that needs to be eaten quickly) then buy up and make this incredible European style plum jam. There's no need for pectin, lemon rind or seeds to make this jam. Just one interesting method that takes time but no effort (trust me on this). And it creates the most wonderful, deep magenta coloured sugar plum jam!

I usually make jam the same way. I boil the fruit with a muslin bag of lemon peels and seeds. But when I came across a bargain for sugar plums at $2 a kilo that needed to be used within a couple of days and I forgot to buy lemon then I decided to make this style of plum jam!

The key to this recipe is to let the fruit sit with the sugar for an hour and then to boil it for 10 minutes and then cool it to room temperature. You do this for a total of 3 times. That's what I mean when I say it takes time but no effort.

I actually thought half way through this that it wouldn't work. But then I figured that spending $1.80 on the fruit and a nominal amount for the sugar wasn't going to break the bank and even if it didn't work out as a jam Mr NQN would eat it anyway. But then it transformed into the most beautiful dark magenta hue and came together perfectly. I actually screamed with delight (okay more squealed alarmingly) when I saw how perfect it was and then I baked some scones to go with them.

Speaking of screaming, one night I was out with my friend Sophia. We were sitting outside a restaurant in the city and we were the only table outside as the other tables had left. We were talking about television shows we liked and I was explaining about the new Ted Bundy show on Netflix and how I didn't like it because it was too creepy. She didn't know much about him and I told her all about him.

"Are you ready for dessert?" our waitress said coming up behind me.

"Arrrrgghhhh!!!!" I screamed, letting out an almighty scream that echoed down the long, corridor street. I swear I had worked myself up so much that I thought that Bundy himself had crept up behind me and asked me about dessert.

"Oh my god sorry!" she said.

"No, it's me! We were talking about serial killers..." I said.

Of course everyone in the restaurant thought I was crazy. And maybe they're right. Maybe I get so caught up that I have trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality. Maybe they're right that jam isn't worth squealing or screaming over.

But they haven't tried this jam ;)

So tell me Dear Reader, do you make jam often? Are you interested in true crime or serial killers?

An Original Recipe by Lorraine Elliott

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 40 minutes plus cooling time

Makes 3x365ml/13oz. jars of jam

800g/28.3ozs. sugar plums

400g/14ozs. white sugar

Note: this jam method works best with high pectin fruit like cranberries, pears, apples, guavas, apricots, quince, plums, gooseberries and citrus fruit. Fruit like cherries, grapes and berries contain less pectin and may produce a looser jam.

Step 1 - Cut the plums in half and remove the pit. Mix with the sugar and cover and sit at room temperature for 1 hour. Heat a thick bottomed pot with a lid on medium to high heat (6 out of 10) and then place the plums and sugar in this. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Then turn off the heat and allow to come to room temperature. Repeat two more times (and this can sit on the benchtop with the lid on overnight if you've got to go to bed).

Step 2 - On the third time boiling keep simmering until it is thickened and becomes a consistent dark magenta shade and becomes jammy in consistency. You can also put a metal plate in the freezer and then when you think it's ready spoon a little liquid in it and run the handle of a spoon through it and if the line holds then it is ready.

Step 3 - I usually heat some glass jamming jars in the oven for 10 minutes at 180C/350F. When they're ready and still hot take them out of the oven ,pour in the hot jam into the hot jars (if the jam is cold the glass may crack and vice versa) leaving 1cm/1/2 an inch space on top. Using a tea towel, screw on the lids and turn the jars upside down and cool.

A dream - February 3, 2018

My dream - we took a trip to viterbo italy? It was HELLA PRETTY and lit up at night. Anywho we took a trip and I was playing with Blake's doll house and making a holographic one before we got on our plane to leave. Instead of a plane it was a car, Geoffrey's car and there was a bowl of baked beans that you had to stick your shoes/ feet into if you sat in the back seat. Geoffrey was our driver but he was also the same person as a Nigerian bald man who orhanized our little bit of travel from starting point to viterbo. As we traveled we drove into another dimension. as soon as we got there, I was Theee were rules for school time. There was a distinction between which kids could ever leave the house and which couldn't on school days. My little brother was one that couldn't. It was VERY serious. The kids who could were monsters. They went around brutally beating up children and murdering animals. I stepped out for a quick second and a teen gang already had a gun up to my head. They followed me into my host Home until I fought them off and gave one a beating to the head and gave the rest a gold coin. Next door behind me, some kid made a delivery of children, like a smuggling task in and out of his bedroom so none of the children would be killed. He also did it with baby puppies. He had them all shipped in via helicopter? ny who Christina and Andrew were child disobedient trackers with dark wings like harpies and sought out Salk of the incorrect smuggling and tore the house to shreds. Some kids got out, others did not. One baby dog the size of like a plum flew out the window sugar glider style and I caught him with my hands. I rushed into the house when it hit 3, which were school hours, which actually didn't ever mean actual school hours but anyway,,,, no children were ever permitted outside after then or else they died. We stayed huddled up. Protecting the dog/human hybrid and naming him some Hungarian name. We had a rope tied around his neck to signal a bell for when he moved BC he was a straight newborn, but when we left to go downstairs he mutée wanted to go with us so he fell and strangled himself and died and everyone In the house didn't cry except my little brother. Then,,, there was Geoffrey's party? I remember getting up and going into a large lit up building with cased stairs and such, and it all went stark white and there was an overhead demanding voice that made me build a hall of memories with the machine from house of Anubis as well as something to show it in, sO like a crystalline octogonal hybrid showing quarters in which I stood in it, could see all the deaths within my time there Nd at the end the casing shattered and left me with a jarring piece of glass stabbed into my body for each and every death. It was excruciating Then the voice made me build a house to showcase something and I had to build it holographically and after that my bio family came back and we saw all of the dead dogs and children and it was really sad and then we drove out and into another dimension when Geoffrey was hsvjng a party and I met Sophia Brendan's gf and I was stabbing a wall upstairs in the living room and geo was frantic and screaming about potato chips with his shirt off. And then boys tennis came on tv and everyone got hypedbfor it except me and some other people and maddie was there and the party was over and i had to stick my feet in beans again and it was gross and maddie wanted a ride home and then the Nigerian man fought me and I wouldn't recommend him so he turned viterbo onto day time idgaf of night so thAt I wouldn't see the lights or any of the shooting stars and then I did sign and it came back to life then I went home and Alyssa was over my house and she saw viterbo too which I thought was just my imagination and so I screamed and we tried to go to china right outside my home in the snow and instead I kept going on and out of my home dropping things and one of them happened to be Carey's retainer which I thought was mine but was most surely hers and then it ended.
