Everyone can rip the theory/prediction for season 3 that Nine brought Chaos Sonic back and he's just chilling in Nine's crystal fortress during the robot battle in the teaser out of my cold. Dead. Hands.

Who spent Sonic's time away after #finding his place to make home (a goal for him) thought a lot about how excited he was to finally bring Sonic here and show him what he was #working on #This is the fox who wanted Sonic to share in his dream and wanted him to stay in seclusion with him *so badly* that he gave Sonic another #chance to choose to stay with him after Sonic had left to go fight in New Yolk #After that argument at the end of s2 how long do you think Nine would be able to sit in the Grim‚ sitting on the knowledge that he'll be #alone after achieving his dream #‚ before feeling very...lonely #And if being around Sonic makes him feel like he's not completely alone for the first time in his life‚ makes him consider being alone but #with someone else #What does he do when he wants to be alone and yet is plagued by loneliness? Creating robot versions of Sonic’s friends? He's never been #jealous of Sonic's friend count. It's not far fetched to say that he most likely made them in preparation for facing off with Sonic (perhaps #even to make him hurt) #And really‚ if he feels lonely but refuses to be around organic living beings. What better attempt to make it go away than by summoning and #fixing the robot copy of him (You know a robot who is like him but will never betray you or want anything other than what you want) #That's all I'm saying #And tbh I personally refuse to believe Chaos Sonic is done. Especially since his run was short and his removal from the story was sudden. I #think he has use as a plot device yet #anyways I'm rambling on sorry I have terminal brainrot

You guys!

We got a teaser!! And even though it doesn't show much yet (and the teaser reuses footage from the first two seasons - such as Nine's and Sonic's High Five), there's still plenty of interesting details - starting with the thumbnail actually. Sonic is wearing his Grim attire, and Shadow is standing next to him. I guess that means he will be able to enter different Shatterspaces too now.

Spoilers and some of my observations under the cut.

A possible explaination for why Shadow is seemingly in the Grim with Sonic could be this. The beam to the sky in the Grim from Nine's lab creates something that is reminiscent of the portals the Chaos Council created in the Season 2 finale. Now, these screenshots appear in a different order from how I posted them here in the teaser, but my guess is that the second screenshot with Sonic and Shadow standing in front of the disintegrating mountain actually takes place after someone (presumably Nine) creates the portal thing in the Grim in the first screenshot.

We also see these purple "tears" that seem to act a bit like black holes and suck in the palm trees (a.k.a. the recurring symbol of hope in Sonic Prime - which means whatever is happening, it's deadly serious). It also makes me think of the darkness Shadow mentioned in S2E1 - this might become important in this context. Since Sonic Prime is canon to the games, according to Ian Flynn, my guess is that this could be The End, and Sonic Prime could be some kind of backstory to Sonic Frontiers.

Anyway, my guess is that these tears are a consequence of whatever is happening in the Grim, and they might be what enables Shadow to travel to the Grim, and possibly other Shatterspaces.

The teaser also shows us quite a few examples of Sonic and Shadow working together - including the two of them speeding towards one of the purple tears. Yes, both of them. You can see a blue and a yellow blur. I guess they realized folks really liked that and Tumblr kept talking about it for an entire week. Honestly, I'm not complaining. Sonic and Shadow teaming up is bound to be interesting.

We also got a look at what seem to be Nine's minions - robots modeled after Rouge, Knuckles and Amy while also being reminiscent of Chaos Sonic, which could make for a really interesting storyline IMO! Curiously, the big robot in the background seems to be modeled after Birdie from Boscage Maze. Oh Nine, what are you doing... But what am I saying.

The teaser makes it look like he has turned into a big time villain, hopefully intentionally in order to be a bit misleading - so far, Nine has been portrayed as hurt and somewhat rash, but not evil for the sake of being evil. I really hope that he can get a happy ending as well, and the fact that they showed the high five from S2E7 gives me hope.

One way or another, I'm excited for Season 3!! Unfortunately, we still don't have release date, so I guess early 2024 it is.

GUYS ISTG I CANT GET OVER THIS SONIC PRIME S3 TEASER MOMENT

I love how Shadow isn't pinning the blame on Sonic!!! Shadow takes the situation as a betrayal. Nine left them to die, not Sonic...NINE DID!!!

And Shadow doesn't poke on Sonic's wound and blames him, Shadow points out the facts.

Nine went against Sonics unwielding trust, and now Shadow and Sonic have to work together in order to fix the shatterverse.

Did anyone notice the parallels between Nine's arc in Prime and the webcomic/web animation Where Was My Hero?

Both are a take on What if Tails didn’t meet Sonic when he did?

Both Nine and Miles continued to get bullied to no end and faced prolonged physical abuse as a result.

Nine’s real tails are notably thinner compared to Tails’s tails (they’re also thinner than Mangey’s and Sails’s tails). I think it’s safe to assume this was a result of the bullying. Miles’s tails had their fur completely torn off. It’s made clear this was a result of the bullying.

Both Nine and Miles eventually construct mechanical tails for themselves (which makes them seem spider-like in some scenes).

Both Nine and Miles end up loosing their only friend in their hellhole. Nine befriends Sonic, and Miles befriends a bird. Sonic establishes that he wants to bring his original world back, which is what pushes Nine to take the shards of the Paradox Prism. Miles’s bullies k*ll the bird on accident, which leads to Miles burning his village to the ground.

Both DO NOT like being called ‘Tails’. I know different people have different takes on how Sonic and Tails met, but I believe in some iterations, “Tails” was initially an insult given by his bullies, which Sonic then turned into an affectionate nickname. With Sonic out of the picture, I'd imagine the nickname 'Tails' would become triggering.

Both Nine and Miles encounter Sonic eventually, and they get into a disagreement due to their conflicting beliefs and morals. In Prime, Sonic wants to restore Green Hill and bring his friends back, while Nine wants to make a new world only for him and Sonic to live their lives out. In WWMH Miles ends up k*lling Eggman and asks to join Sonic, but Sonic rejects him because Miles’s methods went against his morals.

Both Nine and Miles end up surpassing Eggman and become the main antagonist (that is, if the Prime S3 teasers are anything to go by. The whereabouts of the Chaos Council are unclear as of now.)

by the times i was kinda making up in my mind how he'd be, and S2 had ended, i was already toying with some friends about the idea of Sonic becoming a ghost

be it because of saving the world or because of Nine taking pieces of him to make new, better, Sonics

slowly leaving nothing but a ghost-hill-esque Sonic behind

So in a way both, he makes a new sonic but has to use pieces from the original to build upon from, in this case Sonic's freedom gets exaggerated negatively (like how other shatter-selves have exaggerated traits or anti-traits of their originals)

Ok-here’s my prediction of how we’d RP Shelby’s prime (S3)

This will obviously take place in a separate universe where beta betrayed shelby and took the shards for himself.

This causes Shelby’s world to start to be sucked up in that black hole,realizing the shatter space is unstable,she gives noise a important reqest,not just to keep the cats safe,but to alert every single shatter space and bring them to the dread,since noise IS the glitch,he could get them like it was shown in the original pibby teaser.

As for shelby,while noise gathers everyone else,she battles betas machines,and beta,now power hungry thanks to the shards,builds ANOTHER robotic shelby declaring “sorry sister,you’ve been replaced.” Unlike sonic id imagine,shelby would be crying the entire battle,cause now beta was confirming every insecurity that she had from the beginning. That he’d abandon her..however when the robot is about to overpower her,noise arrives with the rest of the gang,the boscage gang and the No place gang,ready to help out in anyway they can.

What happens next? Well-were just gonna have to wait-

Grim Loneliness

Summary:

Set just after the events of Sonic Prime Season 2, Nine returns to the Grim to build the paradox prism—another step necessary to create his new world. However, as he waits for Sonic and Shadow to arrive, the minutes turn into hours. Happy New Years Eve, everyone! 🥂

I've been working on this fic since the Sonic Prime Season 3 teaser came out. I started working on it like a man possessed, and then it took a while because of general business in life and writers block and yeah...

But it's out! Finally! It's been a while since I've posted anything, so I'm happy to get one last thing out before 2024 (and for a new fandom too).

If anyone is actually reading this bit, before you read the fic just be aware that this entire thing was outlined without knowledge of the second s3 teaser or the s3 trailer, and was not changed to include anything from either of those after the fact. Also, Chanine is the name I choose to use for the ship Chaos Sonic/Nine the fox.
