I've been thinking for quite some time that I want to get a snail pet. I think I want to share pictures of it, when I get it.
I know that you should feed it fresh plants (lettuce, of the sort) that you should wash your hands before and after touching the snail and that they're nocturnal.
I wonder if there is any other advice I should know?
Hi! I have two pet garden snails named Herman and Harry. I love them very much and want to make sure that I have the best for them but I can’t get calcium powder and I was wondering if there was any other way to give them the calcium they need. Thanks!!
Hi friend!
Calcium can be tricky with snails, sometimes they crave calcium and sometimes they dont. Sometimes there’s calcium infront of their face and they’d prefer to eat their own shell!
Before I got calcium powder, I used egg shells. You can crush the egg shells to a powder (using a mortar and pestle) or leave them as bigger pieces. Just place these in your snail’s terrarium and even them walking over it (not necessarily eating it) will give them calcium
I haven’t heard of another good calcium supplement, so if anyone has any suggestions please leave it in the notes!
If you’re looking for a good calcium powder to buy, I’m leaving a link here for the calcium powder I use. It’s a surprisingly large bottle of it, and I can garuntee that it’ll last you a lifetime. It seems expensive but I swear - I’ll have this for the rest of my snail keeping days!
So I’ve had marigold for just over 2 months now. And the children for 2 months on the 25th. So here are some updates. Everyone is super chill which I love. I still need to furnish their tank more but money’s been tight.
1st photo: me and Marigold looking super cute
2nd photo the biggest and smallest of marigolds children from the same clutch. The biggest baby is about the width of the top of my index finger. I probably need a name for the big one.
