#its been over 5 years since my last SOC ff #ive been posting in pretty small fandoms recently #like i got multiple comments in an hour #but i also love the small fandoms #like on one hand they were quick but also like thats 4 commenrs to almost 150 kudos #i love kudos bc they help others find my fic #but i have small fics with a one comment to two kudos ratio #i also miss my mutuals messaging me to talk about it #small fandoms are great #its tricky to compare tho cuz i usually do multichapter #my only one shot was smut which changes things #idk its weird #small fandoms are more like grateful #like yayy content!!!! #wheras big ones just inhale #im in both like no hate to the fand obv #buts its weird to compare like NHIE and The Goldfinch to Shadow and Bone #the number 1 trending topic for days now #tho its not even that huge a fandom fic wise #like compared to raven cycle and foxjole court theres not a lot of content #still a obv difference compared to nhie and goldfinch tho

I've seen people say you can't compare the QSMP to the DSMP because they're both completely different servers with different starts.

The thing is you can compare them. Not the stories told themselves because of course they're going to be different as they're 2 servers with different starts with 2 nearly completely different sets of people.

You can compare the treatment of the creators by the fandom, players (other cc on the server) and admins though.

Foolish for example. He made SO many amazing high quality builds to use and be shown to people. Ranboo and Tubbo had him build a giant mansion for them to live in! Yet it was entered maybe once after being finished. Foolish was able to use his builds for his own lore maybe once. Only a few people like Bad really acknowledged them by messing around in the area of them or adding something easy to get rid of to them as jokes.

Bad's treatment on the DSMP was frustrating to watch. He was the butt of the joke every time he was around. People would constantly swear on his streams because it was so funny for them! They constantly destroyed his and Skeppy's house and griefed the front of it. No one other than his friends really listened to him about things. And the egg arc was supposed to be something that was a massive danger to the server! But how does the server and fandom not directly involved treat it? Like a joke. Bad and his friends clearly worked really hard on this arc to include more than just the 'main characters' and their small circle, yet it was brushed off as if nothing by the players and fandom, treated like it was stupid.

Quackity's lore just kinda- happened. There isn't much I can say as I don't remember a lot of it tbh which isn't a great sign.

Philza and Wilbur probably got the better end of the stick for lore due to being connected to the main lorr, but it still wasn't great for them either.

A lot of CCs not on the QSMP have mentioned how the communication for the server was terrible too. At the start of lore on the DSMP, it made sense as they were purely doing improve so there wasn't really anyone to run things through. But the fact the issue was bad the entire time made the CCs on the server feel ignored and not want to play on it.

It was rare for people to interact with others outside their already established circles unless they're friends outside the server.

Now with the QSMP

Foolish has built multiple things on the server and has been acknowledged by everyone at this point. Bad might mess with them a lot still and encourage others to join him but you can tell the respect people still have for each one. Vagetta wants a version of the statue Foolish built him on other servers. People and fandom admire his builds and always make sure that if there's any damage to it, it's easily undone. Cellbit has made the castle Foolish built him his home the moment it was finished, he's been using it since. He paid him fully and made sure he was fully supplied and had company while building, staying on for hours to talk to him as he built.

Bad is respected by everyone on the server. He's taken seriously by everyone. Everyone trusts him with their kid's lives. Phil asks Bad to babysit Tallulah and Chayanne if he can't. The french trust Bad more than anyone outside their language group. Forever trusts Bad the most on the server other than Baghera. If someone needs something they'll go to him. All the eggs love him and so does the fandom. He's part of the joke instead of the butt of it. He can laugh along with the jokes made, even ones directed at him. When people swear on his streams and he languages them, they immediately apologize and switch to one of Bad's replacements (fudge being the main one) and no one makes fun of it either! They don't start swearing relentlessly at him to annoy him.

Even though Quackity doesn't show up often, when he does people are happy to interact with him and update him on what's happened if he wants it.

People can be off the server for weeks without being isolated because they're not keeping up with major lore, especially as people are happy to update anyone on anything they want to know. Hell people can be on a lot without being involved in lore but still be included as much as anyone else! As soon as there's a threat to the eggs or a new way to protect them, it spreads to everyone like wildfire and everyone's taken it on within a week.

The new arrivals are always welcomed by the islanders already there. They support them and treat with the same respect they do with everyone else. They merge with everyone else nearly immediately and become part of the community without hesitation.

The communication with the admins is clearly amazing too. Philza has pointed out how appreciated he feels compared to other servers. When an egg dies unfairly they're quick to get back to them within hours. If there's a general issues they're quick to get back to them and fix things. People are allowed to have their own stories alongside the main one. Events are planned and discussed so everyones aware before it happens. Anyone who wants to take part is welcome to if it's a big thing due to how open they usually are (rescuing Cellbit and Felps, travelling to Bobby's death site, etc). Thinfs are adapted and changed when needed and all CCs are in the loop.

Being able to watch the QSMP and not feel like any POV I watch is being mistreated or ignored is great. I couldn't watch anything but lore streams with the DSMP because Bad was my main POV and it made me so uncomfortable to watch him being made fun of constantly and be treated as a joke.

The QSMP feels like a community of people, instead of factions trying to go against each other. DSMP was my first and only smp experience and while it was great at first, it quickly soured. The QSMP treats it's CCs and fandom as if they genuinely matter, making sure everyone is welcomed and no one is isolated.

The more I watch the show, the more fucking brilliant I find their relationship. This is the slowest of all the burns but it's the most compelling writing.

I have a theory that the leaking sink in 4x06 was a metaphor for both Siegfried and Audrey's agony throughout the episode. Both bleeding inside at the prospect of their looming separation. And Siegfried, with his wounded heart, was forbidding all from going anywhere near it, adamant that he could fix it himself. Undermining the disaster that it was. Pretending that it was not a big deal. That he it was not broken beyond repair. That a month's notice was enough. And the more he tried to mend it all, with increasing anger and grief, without admitting that he was failing, that he was hurting, the more the water spit in his face.

And what is so wonderful about all this, as Audrey notices, is that of course Gerald was ultimately the one to fix it. Because even though he had been a barrier between them up to that point, he was also the catalyst that forced Audrey to realise that she could not bear to leave Mr. Farnon and Helen behind. He was the healing soul who changed her life for the better by showing her what mattered most to her and that she deserved to be cherished and loved. And though she might not know yet how much she means it, she thanks him at the end.

Equally, Gerald forced Siegfried to contemplate a future without her. Shook the status quo. Changed the way Siegfried saw her. Not simply a companion who made him better but a desirable woman who was everything he needed. Without Gerald, things would have stayed the same forevermore, so comfortable were they both in their lovingly built existence. So reliant on their mutual devotion.

All that's left now is for Audrey to have her Oh... moment. Siegfried is already there. And when it finally happens, it's gonna be fucking incredible.

first of all this fic is perfect, show stopping, laugh out loud funny. SECOND OF ALL this fic is the best way to bully your lestappen friends into shipping landoscar because it actually has a super sweet established relationship lestappen side plot. also this whole fic is from max's pov which means you get a beautiful outsider pov look at the complete chaos that is lando and oscar pining for each other. delightfull really.

once again I am thinking about how CQL went out of its way to delete JGY and QS's preexisting backstory from the novel so JGY didn't sleep with her till their wedding night, presumably to make him More Villainous(TM), yet also went out of its way to establish that this was a revolting experience for him and he hated it, which in many ways is more concerning than the original concept would have been so like. why.

#Terror fandom is small and chill and academic enough that we have actually interacted with the showrunners in a fun normal way #and gotten some REALLY GREAT analysis and commentary out of it #and GOD what I wouldn't give to sit down with the CQL showrunners and be like 'what was happening here' #bc for every 2 batshit 'what is moral complexity? we just don't know' adaptation changes #there's 1.25 woobifying moments found nowhere in the novel whatsoever #like!!! what was going on!!! #my money is on them really wanting to making him sympathetic and while having him Raise Good Points About Society was off the table #they could get away with upping the 🥺🥺🥺 factor

anyways, i definitely agree with the need for fandom to treat child characters as the children they are meant to be & be far more understanding of that which can be explained by their age, but it is also very interesting to me that this shift in mindset aligns almost completely with the diluted parenting influencer friendly version of. hm. explaining why the behavior is the way it is in a way that focuses on the incapability of children given their age whereas the science itself on that all of those explanations/reasoning for why behavior is the way it is is actually meant to be utilized and focused in on then working with the age-appropriate *capabilities* of the child in question.

like. okay, so. a Lot of the ideas behind understanding children's brains and working with the understanding of the child's brain come from dan siegel (a psychiatrist who focuses on the neuroscience of the development of the human brain through their life and the need to understanding how the human brain integrates as it ages to be able to understand the why of childhood behaviors and brain development to be able to manage them) and magda gerber (a child development expert who pioneered RIE & the idea of respecful care for the infant and young children by childhood educators, who janet lansbury, a former actress and educator has taken her tenets and since evolved into them into idea of respectful parenting and the push towards there are no bad kids, just infants, toddlers, and kids who experience normal, age appropriate behaviors). and these people's works are fascinating (even if i don't wholly & completely agree with any one philosophy myself) & are generally the go-to pop psychology when it comes to understanding why kids are the way they are. the things about "oh, x character is only y age and is reacting as a child would because they have the brain of a child & are still learning how the world works" absolutely comes from the base concepts of these people's work! and that's a very good thing! greater understanding of kids in fiction is my jam.

but, like. the pop psychology version of these ideas that are spread by parenting influencers & eli5 articles like a game of telephone until it hardly resembles the original spirit of the science is super rampant & is basically diluted down to mainly trying to tamp down personal *frustration* with the behavior in question by recognizing where it's coming from (ie/ they are a child and you have to recognize the limitations/incapabilites of the child to get rid of your personal upsetness about it) & an extreme focus on how *you* can manage *yourself* and *your reaction* to the behavior because they are selling something to you. the focus is on you having to manage the child's incapabilites.

however, that's not the spirit of the actual science they they were laying down. honestly the very work itself often does acknowledge & affirm parental frustration with challenging behaviors & and doesn't diminish the very real feelings behavior provokes. it's not about "well don't be frustrated because they're kids & kids are going to be kids" (after all, diminishing or ignoring your own feelings is exactly antithetical to what you're trying to teach them about not diminishing their own feelings), it's about "we know the behavior is frustrating so here's how you can use your kids' age level capabilities to reduce the frustrating behavior". the work is about parenting modeling behavior to teach kids how to exist in the world, yes, but it's most definitely not about how kids are incapable because of their age or what they can't do. the science itself is incredibly focused on what they *can* do and how you can model your behavior & teach them in a way they will be able to learn from! the entire point is recognizing their innate ability to learn, you just have to teach them in a way they're able to learn from! the point of recognizing the limitations of age/the current state of the child's brain development is not to dismiss the frustrating behavior as just to be expected for their age, it's so that you know how to connect with what they can understand and do to help manage the unwanted behavior. it's a small distinction, but it's there. to me.

It has only been six days since ACGAS 4.6 and I already miss my little Darrowby family. Of course we still have the Christmas Special to look forward to but after that the long wait begins again. Filled with speculations, wild theories, hopes for our ship to finally pick up the pace (a bit).

All I want to do right now is to write fanfics to fill the gaps and bridge the time until we see them all again. I never thought I would fall so deep in love with a show and a fandom again. But here I am, back in the fandom game, head over heels. Thinking daily about fictional characters, shipping an amazing ship and their extremely slow slow burn, writing fanfics, making gifs, freaking out over the smallest bit of information.
