Father Gregor: Spooky Month's fascinating anti-villain

Now, before I go full tilt into my rambling, I want to explain why I'm classing Gregor as an anti-villain. Put simply, his character flaws get in the way of his noble goals and lead to him and the boys being in danger.

So, what does Gregor do in Hollow Sorrows, anyway?

Well, he suddenly takes it upon himself to teach two unruly children how to act in a way he deems acceptable. Over the course of his effort he first gets them to ask people for forgiveness and/or make amends for issues they've caused. Where this went wrong is Gregor's beliefs making systematically apologies to everyone, including Patty, which leads to all the Moloch shenanigans, and Ignacio, which is implied to be what led to Gregor being sacrificed at the end of the episode.

Then we have the other lessons Gregor tried to teach the boys, all of which backfired, with Skid and Pump applying them in situations or ways Gregor didn't foresee or intend. The reason for these backfires being Gregor's inability to look past his own values and understand why someone might not act in accordance to them. He shows this almost every time he talks to someone other than the boys, as the criticisms he makes, while usually at least partly true, often don't come from the right place or don't consider context.

This is what makes Gregor an anti-villain to me, and why I consider this to be his episode instead of Moloch's. Pelo said in the stream where he redid the cultist reference sheet that he wants the villains of the episode to have a seven deadly sins theme to them. Seeing as the first 2 episodes didn't really have focused villains and the cult, as the big bads, aren't likely to be grouped with the episode specific villains, I always saw his statement as referring to episodes 3-9. With this in mind, the villains and their sins would be: Moloch- wrath (obsessed with getting revenge on the boys) Dexter- lust (bloodlust or his "needs") Bob- gluttony (duh) and now, with Hollow Sorrows, Gregor- pride (as his arrogance and perceived moral superiority to others continuously causes problems during the episode) I do have theories on the remaining episode villains and their sins connections, but that's a story for another post.

hey guys copy-paste of insane dexter ramblings I sent to my friends sorry for typos lol. anyways

so im deciding personally bc im insane that she damn well knows her son is fucked up and works as an exterminator so he can legally satiate his need to kill but she still loves and defends him anyways. its my personal little treat. and i feel like this has to be at least partially true bc pelo has said that dexter has ASPD and that disorder oftentimes begins to manifest in childhood including as animal cruelty, so like she's probably been seeing these signs since he was a little kid. and seeing how much she loves him she either A) knows he's unwell and works extermination to satisfy himself and still loves / defends him bc at least hes putting his violent tendencies into a more "productive" outlet or B) is purposefully ignorant of it but i dont want to believe in this one bc nuh uh also dexters mom knowing and still supporting and loving him would be more interesting from a character standpoint bc since dexter is a very unwell man and i imagine doesnt have that many close relationships, if his momma is one of the only ppl that knows something is wrong with him and still loves him then seeing how much he seems to love her back id imagine shes like one of the few people he has. which is sweet but i also imagine its kinda like unhealthy codependent bc they both love each other dearly and cling to each other bc they know each other best but that can lead to them self-isolating and just clinging to each other because its just mother and son against the world and other people hate you but not me and them being like rlly close to the point of being kinda codependant could also be a reason why dexter doesnt get help. bc ASPD and its symptoms can be helped with therapy and medication but instead dexter treats his symptoms by indulging in reckless violent and impulsive behavior. and like. imagine if thats kinda a result of his mom bc she never got help for him and as he got worse she was like "i still love you and will protect you and theres nothing wrong with you" bc she loves her son but she instead reinforced the idea that his behaviors were fine and since he has no encouragement from his mother or others to seek help and change he chooses not to like. their relationship is so sweet and i know they both love each other so much and theyre there for each other BUT i also cant help but think that like. if dexter's mom knows abt his violent behavior which she probably does, why has he just gotten worse and indulged in it. sorry everyone im insane

SPOOKY MONTH FANDOM PLEASE TAKE MY YEAR OLD DOODLES FOR A GHOSTBUSTERS AU FROM LONG YONDER BARELY KNOWING THE LORE (yes I have enough autism to span a lot of cross ghostbusters media into one au okay!!!)

anyways my headcanons have changed and I might doodle again more of this au ! These might not seem in character for both medias cause I really confused spooky month fandom headcanons with actual canon but I’ve rewatched the series since then! These were all doodled on whiteboard but I’m gonna lore dump some of the ideas I have already for a spooky busters au!!!

- Skid and pump are humans but do have ghost forms as Samhain! (Yes together, they come in a package deal)

- Dexter has the multiple forms as Rowan.

-Stay puff and the no ghosts logo brands exist replacing the happy fella franchise however the characters of happy and sad guy are still existent in the stay puff brand!

(Out dated ideas that I changed waughhh)

-Rick is not connected to a ghost form of stay puff anymore, but insert obligatory he worked as a mascot once

-Reconsidering skid dad and Ignacio but they still seem the most fitting kinda as those characters

And yes, of course bob is a slimer ghost hehe.

Hi hello I might be a bit feverish still so this might come off as some nonsense rambling but!!

LITERALLY YOU'RE SO CORRECT!!

Like, Bob and Moloch don't have HALF of the complexity that Dexter has (this doesn't mean i don't like them, i actually love them), Moloch is just "Evil-because-demon", and Bob is just "Evil-because-yes", since as far as we know, he doesn't have any backstory to tell us why he is the way he is. He's just an evil cannibal serial killer for the sake of being evil and eating people.

With Dexter, the situation's way more complex, because he really isn't evil. He's morally grey at best, made some questionable choices to keep his "urges" under control, but not evil at all. It took him ONE YEAR of psychological torture to snap and decide to kill the kids, and even then, he fought it as much as he could.

I really like how Pelo wrote Dexter, honestly. It's really rare to see ASPD (antisocial personality disorder), which i'm like 90% sure Dexter was canonically confirmed to suffer from, represented in a way that isn't just "Ohoh look at this EVIL MONSTER with NO EMPATHY who doesn't CARE FOR HUMAN LIFE and so he's gonna KILL EVERYONE OHOH". And it bothers me a bit how much the fandom leans into characterizing Dexter exactly like this. Like, his issues are barely acknowledged as a whole, and if they are, they are represented poorly. Idk maybe it's just cause Spooky Month usually leans into horror tropes and stereotypes, so the fandom chalks Dexter up to the (still ableist btw) "Mentally Ill Serial Killer" trope, but the fact is that Dexter in canon is NOT LIKE THIS, and they always make him so WIDELY out of character... It's like the fandom saw his mental illness, saw the fact that Dexter's personality is still at times very harsh, brutally honest, and sassy and sarcastic (mostly in the doodles Pelo does), and decided "okay yeah we can't baby-fy him, turn him up to the other extreme"---> and made him this heartless insane guy

Anyway. Big fan of how Pelo gave us a character that actually struggles with his mental illness and also makes bad choices and isn't a perfect human being but also not an irredeemable evil monster that just wants to murder people for fun.
