after playing morrowind (im not finished i am just too exhausted to play rn) i am just overwhelmed with the desire to take a hammer to skyrim, rip it up, and build smth new

i dont hate the setting of skyrim. i dont hate the main ideas behind it. i just think it was done dirty by oversimplification of the plot progression. the way it is structured and written feels like it presumed the player is a lazy moron incapable of thinking things through or making choices. there is rarely ever 2 ways to solve a problem. not to mention it is mostly annoying dungeon crawling with little justification. just go to this nordic tomb and get this thing. only exceptions are thieves guild and dark brotherhood missions only because it would make less than 0 sense. but the mages college? main story? BARDS COLLEGE? dungeon crawling baby hope you arent fucking sick of draugar by now bc you’ll be seeing a bunch of them. most of the time in morrowind i wasn’t in random dungeons or caves. people sent me to track down other people, solve problems for them. you can wipe out a mine or you can extort money from the owner. you can talk your way out of problems. in some sections you can kill ppl annoying you who wont name you horator.

some suggestions i have to make skyrim feel more alive and complex (under the cut bc i wrote too much) based on now other elder scrolls games so i know these things arent impossible or never occurred to anyone at bethesda:

>reputation and disposition should come back. why are these random ppl answering all my questions? if im a nobody except named dragonborn by some monks in a monastery no one really does to, why does anyone give a shit i say stop the civil war?

>much like the nerevarine, people don’t believe you are dragonborn right off the bat. hell, even if they DO, that doesn’t make you THE dragonborn. many dragonborns have exists. you claiming to be one more so makes you a potential problem for politics--the empire could be weary of you trying to drum up support to overthrow the empire, something they DONT NEED. the monks meanwhile ask you to do a VARIETY of spiritual tasks before they will begin training you. gather artifacts not just in tombs. go to various locations around the world. after every shout they teach you they don’t just give you a tutorial but then set you on a clear task to use it. maybe i need to go find a fox that is an avatar of lorkhan, or travel to that tree to speak to kyne. and even after they name you dragonborn, see above, not everyone is going to agree with their judgement or necessarily care. but also if you DO prove yourself, you could gain a lot of respect and reputation around various factions. this would also incentivize exploring instead of just fast traveling to your next dungeon.

>a dragon cult that isn’t undead as an overworld faction. im sick and tired of all dragons being mindless killing machines with few exceptions. im sick of all the dragon cultists being basically zombies and liches. if theyre a real threat, they should have a bigger presence. dragons taking over towns and small settlements where there are acting priests or priests in training. cultists taking people captive. draugar waking from their tombs and wandering into town to kill people. make them a third player in the ‘civil war’. maybe some dragons ruling these towns dont even kill you on sight--to them you are a weak little baby dragon who poses no threat. the soul of a human in a weak, fragile body who does not understand what true power you could attain, a pitiful creature who doesn’t even know flight or the full extent of their knowledge. they are sentient beings with their own culture and ideas after all. and the cultists could have a very real motivations for joining like being fed up with both the empire AND stormcloaks, or not wanting to be the next helgen.

>i actually liked morrowind’s dialogue system ngl. i understand the limitations of a fully verse voice cast, but they already reuse voices and dialogue. i wish we could just ask more conversation topics and get more varied answers. weird responses from npcs made interacting with characters more memorable and enjoyable than a basic stupid fetch quest. caius being like “uhhh you’re starting to scare me” when i questioned him about my weird dreams made it feel like we were actually having a conversation and i was asking questions not just “this is scripted dialogue and i am basically a story prop with no thoughts or feelings” like i often get in skyrim (with a few exceptions)

>more weird shit. frankly we just need more weird shit in skyrim. i wanna see funny in jokes or weird things that add depth. there is no scamp serving drinks or a sheogorath cultist that only meows. no woman on the side of the road who fell in love with the rogue that robbed her and begs me to reunite them. i want more intentionally weird things. no necrophiliac saying “im not a necrophiliac BUT what is the punishment if you were one lol”. no town based off of lovecraft’s work in the middle of nowhere. the elder scrolls series used to have SO MANY weird things in it and frankly those were the best parts.

>the blades should be introduced later. I think, as annoying as it might be, you should only be contacted by Delphine when you have enough reputation in the world. she’s supposed to be a cautious woman. why leave a note like that in a random tomb and then have you do a test AFTER revealing she’s a blade basically. she holds the key to moving forward, only after you do various tasks for her that you then realize only after the fact was gathering up various blades members who are in hiding. i know the network is being hunted down, but i think there should be more than like. 2. give us some people pretending to be crazy skooma junkies, or people who have integrated themselves into various jarls’ courts. she seems like a random innkeeper with a penchant for archaeology and might have secrets of the dragons you’re looking for, asking you to deliver mail in exchange for some information, but in reality you’re contacting her allies she hasn’t been able to speak with out of fear because by this point she thinks you won’t be killed by the thalmor very easily or are a plant for them.

>breaking into the thalmor embassy should just be redone or have multiple ways of going about it tbh. i can also be the most stealthy person alive literally invisible yet the thalmor just fucking know i am a spy and they have captured my accomplice so it doesnt matter if i hack and slash my way out of there or not. so it just feels like a lazy way of trying to be interesting while giving you basically nothing they couldnt have done another way. all you learn is esbern is alive and the thalmor have manipulated ulfric against his will for their own agenda and dont know shit about dragons. why would they EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE DRAGONS I DONT GET IT. it doesnt make the thamlor seem more intimidating, doesn’t teach us anything about their goals, nothing.

>furthermore the blades’ motivations and history should be told more clearly. after the septims they basically refused to directly serve the emperor apparently. but their spy network was still there for 170 years???? they still served in the army???? why do the thalmor wanna hunt them down if they don’t seem to like the current empire either. i know its to fuck over the empire and tie them in like previous games but the blades were already a cool intelligence gathering faction living covertly among the people to monitor various powers for the benefit of the empire and emperor. if they are a threat to the thalmor still, why have them have a fall from grace prior to this? why are they even still working for the empire? if anything they should have been using this dynasty’s imperial family as puppet rulers after the whole oblivion gates thing. see above: even if the thalmor have been hunting them i find it hard to believe there are only fucking 2 left. the blades were pervasive in the empire. most having been wiped out doesnt leave only 2 left. there should be more. enough to give them weight.

>redo the mages guild entirely. and most faction guild questlines but ESPECIALLY mages guild. bring back needing a staff. rising in ranks bc you had to do things for the guild and work at it and level up your skills. how am i archmage when i know like 5 spells? what??? i also think there should be more outposts for the college across skyrim. “but the nords hate magic” well having more mages around would certainly show that more wouldn’t it???? have there be tension still. random mages hating being assigned outside the college bc nords are assholes. preferring places close to the border or solitude where they are less in the heartland of nord pride. there being shut down mages guild buildings in some areas left abandoned.

>bigger guilds. bigger towns. i dont need daggerfall sized cities but at least oblivion or morrowind sizes. yknow. just bigger. i feel like we were allowed stuff like guild outposts bc of the town sizes. whiterun does not feel like a hub of trade. its rarely even mentioned despite it being a key point of the civil war both sides want for that reason.

>more settlements and places. vvardenfell is smaller than skyrim. why is there more shit to do. more places to be with more variety and interest. fix that too

>civil war needs to be redone in the fact there is frankly nothing to do. use the camps and outposts. have us clear out bandits to make a new base. negotiate trade. escort caravans that carry supply. take out smuggling operations. spy on the other side using their armor. we have bits of this with taking out agents and stealing papers but i want More. also ideally have different play-styles incorporated into it like you can be an archer, or steal and gather intelligence, or even just different ways to solve the same problems. maybe you threaten someone selling supplies to the other side, or kill them, or destroy their business, or convince them not to. you burn enemy fields so their troops have less food in a really fucked up battle system, or you can refuse those orders if you find them morally repugnant and either get punished for it or have to find a work around through another commanding officer who gives you an alternative. consciously make the choice to just follow orders or think through your actions and refuse. war is ugly and some sides will do anything to win. wouldnt it be interesting to fight dirty one playthrough and the next choose to try and only fight fair and just?

>i know some characters must die because the plot has demanded it. but frankly i feel it is overused sometimes. mages guild, companions, etc. you are promoted bc everyone else died or whatever. can i save them even if i like them as characters? no. nothing i can do can change that for them, even if them being alive could very well be possible and interesting. exception to this is the woman abt to be murdered in markarth when you walk in. why CANT i save skjor if i am fast enough. why cant my choices effect if the arch mage dies or not. it doesnt matter what i do or how fast i do it, they die, so whats the point of trying to do it different ways or try harder. see above for how you always get caught along with your accomplice when breaking into the embassy. it just robs the player of agency. their choices, performance, play style, and skills don’t matter. they will always be arbitrarily rewarded or punished in the linear narrative the devs have decided to make things as simple as possible bc every day people cant make choices and think things through or accept consequences of their actions they might have to live with. they cant want to craft their own narrative, it needs to be as simple as possible, people only like simple things.

if i think of more i can add more but most of these things have core issues behind them that i think if addressed could fix large swaths of issues.

This has probably been said before and written about before but the tragedy of Miraak and the Last Dragon Born being alive at the same time and therefore Miraak being the only one currently alive that could possibly understand exactly how LBD is feeling and thinking but they don't get a chance in cannon to really talk to each other. LBD could have incredibly interesting dialog with him about their similarities but Miraak can't leave if he doesn't kill them and they can't allow him to enslave the world they have been ordained by the gods to protect. By all means they should have been allowed to be on the same side but once again the characters that are by all rights demi gods are still just playthings to higher beings. And that's one thing both of them hate and if you live long enough you will start trying to find ways to change it.

On the flip side its interesting to imagine LBD being violently opposed to Miraaks ideology, they have similar situations but LBD has found joy and love and created a life and family of their own in Tamriel, imagine a dragon born that loves Tamriel and the people in it with all their heart and even if there wasn't a prophecy or a magic blood thing they still would have tried to save this world with the same ferocity anyway. Even LBDs who are immoral to their core, ones that chose to be violent assasins and thieves and split their soul into a thousand pieces, have people they want to protect. If that means killing Alduin, so be it, if that means battling the only other person who will ever understand them, then they'll do it.

Miraak didn't have that i dont think. And therefore it doesn't matter what happens to the world, he want to be free of shackles hes had since before he was even born. Maybe the Last Dragon born really tries to help him, maybe they try to show compassion and get him out, but it ends up being for nothing, hes killed anyway. They couldn't save him. They leave and end up back where they had been reading the final book. Devastated in every sense of the word and all they can do is look to whoever accompanied them and break down.

Weird headcannons about lycanthropy no one asked for.

Mostly about lycanthropy and the weirdness that comes with being a werewolf, its more than likely slightly lore-unfriendly but these are for fun so who cares.

-lets start with the obvious, they got some weird wolf and dog mannerisms, eat more meat than usual, they growl instinctively at people they get a bad vibe from, that sort of thing.

-theres also some things that carry over into their non-beast form, sharper teeth, better hearing and scent, the companions (at least in the circle) can probably hear Heimskr right outside their place all the time and are on the verge of snapping

-i imagine they're a bit more hairy than most, which is like, a bit more common, but Kahjit probably get more wild and faster growing fur, argonians grow more feathery type stuff, and non-beast races just in general more hairy

-folks with beast blood are always just much stronger than they look, like even if they look skinnier they still are much stronger than they have any right to be

-they don't get cold as easy, and Kahjit lycanthropes can feel almost too hot even when its chilly sometimes.

-werewolf blood tastes bad to vampires, like flat out, it tastes sour or like rotten meat

-kahjit and argonian werewolves are SO weird though, the mannerisms of kahjit get super thrown into whack because on one hand the tail moving COULD be bad, but then again, it could be they're just excited, the hearing is a huge issue too

-argonians lycanthrope forms being more feathery and still retaining their horns (maybe they become a bit more gnarled with it)

-lycanthrope nightmares are way more vivid than the nightmares of others, and what happens in them is extremely varied from person to person and its tough for them to tell if it was real or not at first, some get used to it, some don't.

-when the dragonborn is a werewolf its their roar that throws people off most, it is way louder than it has any right to be, even the companions are a little taken aback by it at first, on the bright side its much more effective at striking fear into people

so i skipped a few days but hey, times not real. also i never played through dawnguard im going off like screenshots of the place so cut me some slack please. also im gonna hide a bunch of shtory crap under the cut cause i just realized no one knows who any of these people are unless you can read my mind

EDIT: fuckin forgot there were prompts this is like a combo of oblivion and promise cause i dont have spoons for a whole drawing a day most of the time

vels the red one with the sword and shaz is the blue dunmer in the college robes

also noo i will not fix the spelling tonight because i dont wan t to sorry

at age 10, n 11, idk what happened, if house hlallu was uprooted or if there was a small like explosion or something but they left for skyrim, family-less. started in windhelm, then up to winterhold by age 13. hung around n enrolled till age 20. pair gets arrested while artifact hunting around falkreath, hauled off to helgen. in same cart is kajiiti couple, terrified and blathering. man tries to talk to imperials, beg for his wife, gets smacked. wind up in helgen, ulfrics there, huh. so cat woman is led up to the block, chopped, and catmans next, voluntarily, hes like losing it. head ont he block, alduin swoops in, fucks it up. vel gets caught up with the cat man, shaz is buried under some rubble n about to die when the visage of a dwarf appears, makes a deal. she'll save shaz, IF when the time is right, shaz helps hr escape from oblivion. shaz agrees and the pair like, reappear at bleak falls barrow, where they get the dragonstone and sell it to lucan, and then take a carriage back to the college. figures vel is dead, and if she wasnt, she'd head back home, right? well vel thinks shaz is dead so she hangs out with dek, cause hes just gonna be a danger to himself if no one stays with him. head into riverwood with ralof, vel sets de’kath (catman) up with a room the inn and heads to whiterun to ttelll the jarl. heads back for the dragonstone and sees mirmulnir attack the tower. deks there, fighting him, hes got the dragonstone from lucan and hes fucking furious. kills the dragon, shouts for the first time, main quest till diplomatic immunity.

meanwhile shaz is doing the college quest, except its her leading the expidition, cause tolfdirs an old man and she is technically one of the colleges resident masters(destruction, alteration). after shes the archmage its been like a year and a half and she gets invited to a party at the thalmor embassy. so like, why not. she hates the high elves, shes game.

vel goes to the party, cause its more of an elf thing that kajiit thing, plus she can lie better. they meet up at the party and ill write it someday but long dstory short

so they do some shit, spend like a year dickin aorund skyrim. then dawnguard, they get to the soul cairn and dnefruuk, whose been haunting shaz the whole time, announces that its time, and shaz made a blood promise or something. so she marches up to vel n kisses her good, promises to come back, then jumps off deeper into oblivion.

and thats where this thing is thank u for parsing through my shit i love u

skyrim misadventures, ft Weird Magic Stuff, a determined spite mission, and some spooky encounters

sighs i really want to do the thieves guild storyline but i dont want to work with the slimeball scam elixir guy to run a decent dude out of business for no reason... i like brand-shei hes my friend :(

i might not go through with it on this file, i definitely will with my khajiit though if nothing else

i know having a khajiit thief character is way obvious lmao but

i also found this spooky hand, but couldnt figure out anything to do with it yet, unless its just here for Ominous Mage Experiments Gone Wrong purposes

anyway all this was on a quest to find the augur, which nobody wanted to talk about and kept going “ohh yeah.... he Used To Be a student.... until..... The Accident” and i was losing my MIND trying to imagine what kind of horrific thing this guy got turned into but then i finally found him and

:/ hes just a big glowy ball

which, i mean, is cool and all, but i was hoping for like, a dude who turned himself inside out or became some eldritch horror or something

through all these winterhold quests i started finally getting half decent at magic (not like, Good, but acceptably ok) and decided to finally go back for that one disastrous cidnha mine quest ive been avoiding

you get thrown in the markarth prison mines with nothing and gotta find a way to escape, which can be accomplished without too much trouble if you band together with your fellow inmates, however, they are fucking forsworn and will start murdering everyone near them once they escape with you

i dont know if that keeps you stuck with a bounty in markarth or not, but i REALLY didnt want to release the forsworn leader out into the world, or be friends with those fuckers, or ruin my reputation, or risk civilian casualties even though theres not really that many people i care particularly about in markarth now that muiri is safe is solitude, so. i had previously just reloaded a save and ignored the quest for ages

because like. i dont think you Can get out on your own and if you try to turn on them and fight once you make your escape its REALLY hard to survive bc they outnumber you and you dont have any armor or anything other than like, shitty prison shivs

however: the guards cannot take away your magic or your shouts, so

this time i was fucking ready, i have the ability to summon a FRIEND now to fight with me (i dont know what would’ve happened if i had a companion with me during this mess but like. i can Make one), i learned how to make a magic sword so id at least have some kind of halfway decent weapon, and ive got healing magic

cool dragon powers also help (this was from. later on bc i have my stuff in this shot but)

this was still hard as shit, lucien got defeated pretty early on, and with no magicka potions its really hard to keep healing while fighting but i eventually fucking DID IT, i killed every single forsworn prisoner including madanach, and escaped myself (which granted me a pardon and some kind of special ring i dont care about from the silverbloods)

i mentioned this misadventure to my dad later and he legitimately didnt know it was even possible to do this lmao i was VERY determined not to help the forsworn ever in any way

those guys ruin my day every five minutes when im out anywhere near their camps even if i try to avoid them like the plague i hate them!!

i kept the shivs though and later discovered

also i ran into a fucking headless horseman ??????

i didnt even know he was there until i heard lucien unsheathing his weapon when he saw it behind me and i looked to see what he was concerned about

i followed him for ages like halfway across the map but eventually i had so many bandits and wolves and also a dragon chasing after me i lost sight of him after a while :’| WILD though

not that im ever going to sell it but i cant help noticing the blade of woe is worth 666 gold,

cicero’s always mentioning he wants skyforge steel so i bought him a skyforge dagger and enchanted it for him (i think i put silent moons enchantment on it, i forget), finally remembered to give it to him but didnt take back the other dagger i gave him before to see if he’d pick which one he wants to use and here he is using his new one.... baby likes his present im so glad,

granted its probably just like, an automatic npc thing to just use whatever weapon has the best stats but i like to think he likes it

he still says the line all the time he doesn’t have like. special dialogue if you Do give him skyforge steel or anything but still

anyway i also had this mission going for boethiah where i was supposed to. bring her a sacrifice, essentially. which, yeah, ok, obvious bad idea, but im already an assassin, whats the difference at this point right

my first thought was to go hire a random mercenary at windhelm, since many of the most unpleasant people in skyrim seem to live there, and i figured the chances were pretty good hes racist and insufferable like the others

but we ended up killing a dragon together and god damn it hes actually a nice guy, i like him :’) so we’re friends now after all

however, boethiah still needed a sacrifice, and. there’s this drunk guy in markarth you can hire after you defeat him in a brawl, and. he doesn’t seem to have a lot going on in his life other than shit tons of mead, so. i figured he’d do :’ )

holy FUCK

i dont regret carrying out this quest bc like... A) it was really cool and B) -

i eventually got this fuckin SICK armor out of it that ups my stealth while actually being pretty legit defense, and it poisons any enemies that come near me but somehow doesnt poison friendly npcs which is WILD and incredibly convenient for when im getting mobbed but dont want to accidentally murder whatever companion i have with me at the time

i do feel bad about sacrificing cosnach though like. he was little more than a random drunk guy but that doesn’t mean he deserved it, y’know :’ ) i couldn’t find anyone i hated that would also follow me though

also i later discovered on the wiki you can actually marry that guy, and im just like. why, out of all the options you have in skyrim, would you go for “random drunk dude who gets in bar fights”

i dunno maybe he grows on you if you fight with him for a while but i didnt want to get attached again :’)

i found wisps??? i think?????? i couldnt figure out any way to interact with them but they glow and bounce around and i LOVE them

woah!!!!!!

i. dont remember what was in there but apparently the wisps really wanted me to find it

(i do remember getting stuck in this room and couldn’t figure out how to get the door to open though so i just kinda backtracked and left the way i came in, dunno if i missed anything important or if it was just an alternate way out that i couldnt figure out)

12 ‘Unpopular’ Viddy Game Opinions

I’ve seen this topic floating around a lot, but didn’t think I had enough ‘unpopular but maybe not’ opinions about games to make a post. Turns out I do! So if you see this and I say something blasphemous, remember it’s just my opinion and my personal experiences with the games I list. Hope you enjoy or hey, maybe even agree with some of this!

Note: Can’t stress enough. This is just me. Also, spoilers under the cut!

12. The opening of Kingdom Hearts II isn’t as terrible as everyone says

Okay, so it’s not brilliant, but at the same time, I don’t think it’s the worst. For those not in the know, KH2′s opening is a basically a massive slog where you play as a character you don’t know or care about with seemingly no real link to the events of the previous game. The general consensus is that there’s some interesting stuff in here, but it’s buried among endless dialogue that really doesn’t mean much. And they’re right, but I really think there’s some great stuff here that people tend to gloss over. The music and the motif of Twilight Town is atmospheric, there’s some genuinely intriguing plot elements that are woven into Roxas’ story and believe it or not, the stuff that happens here is intrinsic to the rest of the game. So yeah, it drags on a little, but I don’t think KH2 would be miles better without this opening.

11. I loved Breath of the Wild’s final boss

One of the problems I see talked about with Breath of the Wild is that the boss fights are fairly mediocre, especially the very last one, Dark Beast Ganon. And I couldn’t disagree more. I think every boss in the game is wonderfully crafted, intense, challenging and great for testing you on what you’ve learned throughout the game by encouraging you to make creative use of your slate powers and the flurry rush technique. And while Mr. Pig Man at the end here is sort of easy and short, it serves as a brilliantly epic finale to damn near perfect game. While the difficulty is mostly gone after the mammoth fight with Calamity Ganon, it’s still just as intense as you frantically fire off arrows into the massive beast in front of you. Plus, the design of this thing is one of the best looking monsters in the game, so I really don’t understand the dislike for this ending.

10. I really like Crash of the Titans

Okay, so maybe childhood nostalgia has something to do with this pick, but every Crash fan I’m aware of seems to hate this game. But I don’t really know where the hate comes from! I played the PS2 version of this and I thought it was a genuinely fun 3D platformer with a variety of locations, good visuals, well-designed boss battles and even a vague story you can sort of follow! The game’s main gameplay feature is also brilliantly integrated, as using Aku Aku to possess various monsters throughout the game keeps everything interesting. One thing I will say though, that tiger dude you have to fight about halfway through is the most annoying thing I’ve ever had to endure in a game.

9. Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is BAD

I loved Life Is Strange when it first dropped, so I was beyond excited when they announced a prequel from Chloe’s perspective. But I really think they dropped the ball and they dropped it hard. But everyone else seems to adore this game! For me, this wasn’t a touch on the original. For a start, they dropped out one of the main mechanics of the first game, the time travel, which they then replaced with a much less interesting ‘Backtalk’ feature, which was then only used about twice throughout the game. Instead of interesting, developed characters reacting to genuinely dangerous or heartfelt situations, it felt to me like a bunch of one-dimensional teenagers who are edgy for the sake of being edgy. Chloe spends the majority of the game being a dick to her mother and bunking off class to spend time with Rachel, who she has literally known for like a day and their sudden relationship drops out of nowhere. Not that I didn’t enjoy the emotional moments of their relationship, it just didn’t feel like it stemmed from anywhere, unlike Max and Chloe from the first game. And the game’s attempts at villains were also rubbish compared to the first, with Damien (random scary knife guy who doesn’t really tie into the plot that much) and Eliot (who doesn’t appear for the whole game and suddenly goes full incel on Chloe when she breaks into Rachel’s house). Yeah I think you can tell I had some problems with this one.

8. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider was also a hot mess

I LOVE the Dishonored series. The first game and its DLCs are amazing, the second game was arguably even better. And then this happened. In this one, you play as Billie Lurk, a character I love, and Daud comes back, a character I also love. But both of them are incredibly badly written and it doesn’t feel like there’s any development to them or even much reason for them to do what they’re doing. This entry took the mystery surrounding the Outsider and basically did a big poo on it, giving us the revelation that he was apparently HUMAN this whole time. I think that was the nail in the coffin that made me sort of think this was a bit rubbish. While the combat and side missions were as brilliant as ever, the level designs felt less creative than other entries in the series and lacked variety or colour, all the side characters were entirely forgettable and to wrap it all up, they killed Daud offscreen. Out of nowhere, they just killed him, mentioned it offhand in a cutscene and that was that. If you like this game, fair enough, but it kind of baffles me that more people don’t see this in the game.

7. Mario Galaxy 2 is good. It’s just sort of good

Some people cite this as being one of the best 3D platformers of all time, and that’s fair enough, but I just kind of see this one as ‘good’. Sure, it has a good, satisfying control scheme for the most part, the level design is creative and the bosses and puzzles are pretty standard for a Mario title, but still enjoyable. However, sometimes, the floaty physics and weird knockback effect from jumping into walls led to quite a lot of unfair deaths, especially if I’d been punished for messing up already by losing a life, only to then immediately be punished again by falling into the void. Plus, I found Yoshi near impossible to control at some points with the motion controls. So yeah, this one is genuinely enjoyable, but I don’t think I’d personally put it with the best of all time.

6. I LOVE Dragon Quest IX TO DEATH

This is a game in a legendary franchise that consistently almost always see ranked at the very bottom of the pile in the series. But I really don’t understand how or why. Okay so your protagonist and party are basically silent and don’t have a lot of character, but I don’t see this as a reason to totally write off the game! The side characters, villains and story are all amazing and well-developed, the world is huge, colourful and interesting, the monsters are brilliantly creative and Dragon Quest’s signature lame sense of humour is gratefully carried through the whole game. The music is always brilliant and atmospheric and the bosses are just as memorable as each character you meet. What was everyone’s problem?? This is genuinely one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played and if you haven’t had a chance to pick it up, it is so, so worth it.

5. Sonic Adventure is a broken mess

So before I kick this one off, I’m not someone who hates Sonic and I’m not here to slate the whole franchise, but considering this game is often considered to be one of the best in the series, I thought it was definitely worth addressing. When I first played this, I literally couldn’t believe this was made in 1998, AFTER Mario 64 and yet it’s so broken! The physics and control scheme are totally wonky and hard to control, the unending amount of glitches make a fair amount of the stages almost unplayable, the voice acting and facial animation is cringey and oddly broken and yet, this was all on the Dreamcast. The most powerful console of the time. And I don’t think I even need to mention how boring some of the later stages get, with Big the Cat’s fishing section being the main offender. I can’t vouch for Adventure 2 as I haven’t had a chance to play yet, but I really hope it isn’t like this.

4. Dragon Age Origins is the best Dragon Age

Dragon Age has always been a popular RPG series, but I think it properly shot to fame once Inquisition dropped in 2014. And don’t get me wrong, I liked Inquisition! The world was colourful and expansive and the characters were fairly memorable, but I still think the best experience you can get is in the series’ first entry, Origins. While it’s pretty easy to see that it’s slightly dated considering it’s ten years old now, the best characters and story in the series I think is here. Each companion you recruit is varied and developed and the story wraps up brilliantly in the end with each companion and army you meet playing a different role in the final battle. Plus, I kind of can’t forgive Inquisition for making Leliana lose her sense of humour and making her kinda boring.

3. Oblivion is better than Skyrim

Okay so I’m not sure exactly how unpopular this is, but I just thought Oblivion was miles better than Skyrim ended up being. Just to clear it up, I still love Skyrim and I thought it built on the series’ combat system and variety of enemies really well and still provided an enjoyable experience. But Oblivion feels like more of an adventure you feel at home in. The story is dense and full of twists and turns. The soundtrack has some of the most atmospheric music I’ve ever heard, the world is full of bright colours, each city is vastly different and has its own lore and I found some of this to be absent from Skyrim. I’d go into more detail, but I think the simple fact is that Oblivion had so much more I liked than Skyrim.

2. I don’t think The Witcher III is all that amazing (in some regards)

This by no means says that I don’t like the game, because I do, but I think it has more flaws than people let on. Now, don’t get me wrong, a lot of the stuff people praise about this game is true, the quests are in-depth and masterfully crafted, the characters, especially Geralt, are extremely memorable. In fact, Geralt is one of my favourite game protagonists. But most of the problems I had were in terms of the gameplay. The combat, while fast-paced and satisfying, can sometimes feel a little finicky, so a lot of precision is needed. However, I felt that the world itself didn’t particularly interest me and the music is often ambient but outside of combat, isn’t anything special. Mostly though, the leveling system I found to be a bit wonky. I did absolutely everything I could in the first area of the game; all the side quests, treasure hunts, killed a whole bunch of monsters etc. And then I arrive in the second area and find I’m too underleveled to do literally anything. The majority of the quests have too high a level cap, a lot of the monsters kill me very quickly. And because the bulk of EXP farming is in the quests, I’m sort of stuck in an endless loop of constantly not being strong enough to do anything. On top of that, all my equipment keeps breaking and I’m finding that repair kits are extremely few and far between and that makes me even WEAKER. It’s something I’m gonna need to persevere with I think, but hey, this is just my experience with it.

1. Ocarina of Time, as amazing as it is, may have overstayed its welcome as best game of all time

I reckon this might be the most controversial, so it’s number 1. Let me preface this by saying I really like Ocarina and I agree that it was innovative for the RPG genre at the time. There’s a hell of a lot in this game that we have to thank for the games we have today. But considering how far the gaming industry has come since then and the sheer amount of high quality games we’ve been getting year after year, is still fair to call this the best game ever? When more recent games have taken what Ocarina started and built upon it? Games like Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead Redemption II, God of War all gave us expansive, beautiful worlds and a story you can really get stuck into. And all the time, more and more games of this caliber are coming out. So yes, of course Ocarina of Time deserves a place in the hall of fame, it was revolutionary and still holds up really well today! I just can’t help but think there have been plenty of games since then, as flawed as some of them may be, that have improved upon the formula tenfold since Ocarina’s release.

hi i'm the last dragonborn from skyrim, and the inquisitor from dragon age inquisition 👉👈

as the dragonborn i was a high elf (altmer) named averiix silinan, i was very kind and accepting, i was originally going to be a gryphon rider in summerset but then changed my mind and became a blacksmith (however i kept the gryphon i raised, his name was mithriil). i had white hair that was about mid-back length and very wavy, that i usually kept in a bun. i also had white eyes (this was from a magic mishap when i was a kid and one of my siblings tried pranking me, it turned my eyes white). i tended to wear elven armour and gauntlets, glass boots, and a circlet. i also had an ebony sword, a glass(?) bow, and a glass dagger

eventually i travelled to skyrim to explore, which is where the whole dragonborn thing kicked off

i was in a relationship with miraak and serana; i met miraak when the cultists attacked me as is in the game--i travelled to solthsiem and when i actually encountered miraak i immediately felt sympathetic for him

i was pretty good at reading people, and i dedicated myself to doing a ton of research of apocrypha, miraak and ect, and pretty much determined that, even if he thought he had to kill me in order to escape, i was gonna help him and save him

so basically through a lot of effort that i still dont really remember, i did end up saving him, and he decided to accompany me on my journeys, his excuse was "to make sure i didnt get myself killed" (this was somewhat justified, i was psychologically incapable of feeling fear and i didnt really have much sense of self preservation considering i befriended all the dragons i came across if possible and was always super nice to people, and was really trusting)

eventually we fell for each other and entered a relationship, he was always a bit grumpy but it was an affront since he sometimes struggled about expressing his emotions; he was extremely protective and a bit possessive (though not in a bad way), and was fairly quick to anger but i usually could persuade him to not be violent

i dont remember exactly when i met serana, but i think it was after i killed alduin (with miraak's help)? she and miraak didnt get along at first but i managed to smooth things out between them, i eventually entered a relationship with serana too after extensive talking to miraak (he was very hesitant to 'share' me at all at first; he was a lot more in touch with his dovah side than his mortal side tbh)

miraak was more restless than serana or i, and didnt like to stay in one place for too long; luckily i liked to explore and regularly would go to mines to replenish my ore supplies--and serana liked to explore and see the world and how it's changed

i think i also took them to summerset to meet my family? my family was also fairly chill, though they were a bit Surprised to say the least that "little av'" had managed to score not only a vampire, but a legit dragon priest

i was good at befriending dragons, and by the time i killed alduin i had LOTS of dragon friends (and thereafter chose to befriend each dragon and not kill any), sometimes theyd even accompany me on adventures

paarthurnax was like a father to me, odahviing was like a cocky brother, and i was also close to durnehviir too

as for my dragon age inquisition timeline, i have a lot less memories for

i do remember i was a female dalish frost mage named melia, and i could talk to plants

i was in a relationship with solas, and i was pretty good friends with cassandra and varric specifically, though i was good friends with all the companions

i also enjoyed talking to cole in particular, and i know i really appreciated his help

i was a bit nervous about trying to go into the fade because my only experience had been when i entered it physically, though solas helped me get over that fear

i was fairly self confident, but i had my occasional doubts, like if i really was a good enough leader, but luckily my friends helped me get over these doubts

i was initially very hesitant to let myself be close to anybody or accept help, because i had a fear that anybody i let close, someone who thinks of me as an enemy would hurt that person(s) to hurt me

however i did eventually get over that

i tended to be quiet and observational, however i LOVED to learn and could get very talkative when learning about something or speaking of a topic i was interested in or knowledgable about

i didnt like being alone, and after solas and i got together i preferred to spend time around or near him if possible; i got overwhelmed by large groups of people, so i preferred to stay around one to five people at most, though i could often be found just outside haven or skyhold in a tree or in the snow

i also had a distinct fear of time--namely because it reminded me of how each second that passed by could be another second closer to corypheus completing his plans

i also had a "pet" plant? i cant remember if it was magical, or if that was the natural kind of species, or if it was inhabited by a spirit/demon; but it was basically an oversized flytrap plant that moved around and functioned similarly to a snake--though i do know it was intelligent (maybe because i could speak to plants?) and would help me scout and find things. i cant remember how big it was but i know it often would rest curled around my staff or arm(s?)

for both canons i'm looking for anybody but especially those aforementioned 👉👈

sometimes i remember i had terrible ideas for a junjou and sekaiichi abridged series mere months ago.

just.... look at how absolutely awful they are.

literally everyone texts/calls hiroki for advice. even if they dont know him. takano just texts him one day. '1. who are you. 2. where'd you get this number. and 3. i'm not a fucking love doctor'

shinobu considers himself a 'gaymer' and his favorite game is skyrim. he has a youtube channel called 'CabbageGaymer27' where he plays skyrim a lot

there is an original couple introduced at the end of season 1. they're poorly drawn in ms paint and the animation is bad. idk about the seme, but the uke is a guy named semi ryouta, formerly semi eita, who's father was an american weeb who changed his last name to semi, moved to japan, and got married. they had 1 child before the wife left him, and he named him after the character who's surname he stole from haikyuu - semi eita - and forced him to watch haikyuu and play volleyball and dye his hair to look like the character. 'HE'S NOT EVEN A MAIN CHARACTER DAD WTF'. eventually after he gets kicked off the volleyball team because he can't fucking set, he legally changed his given name to ryouta, dyes his hair back to his natural color(i later changed this because he dyed his hair purple), and runs away to accomplish his dream of being a movie star.

miyagi can't die by old age. he was turned immortal by sensei and then she got killed by people who hunt immortals. (@ past me, seriously? how were you gonna make this work, you dumbass?)

based on an abridged version i saw before, usagi's voice is literally just a girl's voice pitched down because it's funny.

the only thing i like about it is ryouta. it’s stupid, and i was even going to do just that either as i said above, or in a stupid gatcha game. i actually made both him and the other dude in gatchalife (and gave them headcanon japanese vocies... for some reason)

i mean if you’re interested in any of these awful ideas or ryouta and his boyfriend, feel free to let me know and i might, MIGHT, do something with it. if i were to seriously write the original couple (which i ‘affectionately’ dubbed junjou dramatic for some reason) i’d probably change the backstory to not be as silly and stupid as it currently is.

AND THEN they didn’t load on the desktop, and i found a way to view them on standard mode. i’m a fool.)

Vert is best Waifu. Fallouts So many plus expansions, Chandler as a bad guy is special. Diablo 3, Clicky loot loot WoW Classic, because... FFXIII-2, Timetravel-bocolina Tomodatchi Life, Make your friends on the DS into miis, interact with them, cry alone at night Smash Bros. Repeatedly main Peach till she becomes top tier, yaay Jackbox games, All Gems, probably the best multiplayer gaming actually this decade. Doki Doki Literature Club, MO-NI-KA Batmanzes, grapple glide Southparkgames, play the stories you have watched and add a weak RPG element. Dragon Ages-s, Way better than mass effect Every Naruto game. Like lego, but with anime ninjas Barrel Scrape: the game, where you frantically look at your steam collection for the games you have most played, and check the dates of your 360 games to see if they fall into this category I played 18 games it seems? Cunzy: *gasps for air*, wipes synthetic jizz from Lollipop Chainsaw skirt. Ten years is a long time. Here's my top 18 games of the decade. Silent Hill Shattered Memories 2010 Silent Hill without the combat and all the more psychologically chilling because of it. Great setting, theme and story. One I regularly come back to and still brick myself. Endless Ocean 2 2010 Expanding on the first one in every way, shame there aren't more nature lovin' games in this ilk. Monster Hunter Tri 2010 The only one in the series to have kept my attention despite it being the 'wrong one' according to many in the MH community. Lost Planet 2 2010 Probably one of the games with the most comprehensive couch co-op mode and ridiculous bosses to team up against. Absolutely bonkers story, giant monsters and jetpacks. What more do you need? Dead Rising 2 2010 I wasn't too bothered with DR3 and DR4 despite absolutely loving the first game. They seem to have crossed the line between goofy but po-faced and just silly apocalypse zombie killing. DR2 arguably gives you a playground more memorable than Willamette and stays on the 'serious' side. Dead Space 2 2011 One of my favourite gaming franchises I think, excellently built world that is complemented by the tie in anime, comics and spin-off games. Resident Evil Revelations 2012 It was a good decade for Resident Evil with almost every game seeing multiple ports, re-releases and remasters. It's a close call between Resident Evil 2 and Revelations on the Nintendo 3DS for my favourite of the decade but this one really got it's biohazardous talons-with-eyes into us especially raid mode. Revelations 2 is fantastic co-op but the raid mode side of things isn't as fluid as the original Revelations. Criminally, aside from a brief VR foray into Resident Evil 7, we errr didn't play it. The Last Story 2012 Oh, I fell in love with this game and despite the small geography of Lazulis City it felt like a living city with many surprises tucked away. Great soundtrack to boot. Fire Emblem Awakening 2013 Another series that had a rock solid decade starting with Awakening then the rest of the 3DS trilogy, an excellent Warriors game and even Heroes wasn't too bad. Although Fire Emblem Three Houses is the superior game, it's the cast and the support system pioneered by Awakening that has this in my top 18. Tomb Raider 2013 Sometimes the context in which you play a game is as important as the game itself. A weekend in 2013 with fellow Tomb Raider fans blasting through this excellent and long awaited reboot is fondly remembered. Last of Us 2013 It's hard to put a finger on just one thing that makes this game phenomenal but there's not been much like it since. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2013 There were some great LEGO games this decade from opposites LEGO Worlds and LEGO Dimensions to movie tie-ins and a strong series of games based on the Marvel and DC comics. The Marvel trilogy in particular was outstanding. Everyone's Gone to the Rapture 2015 With age, the more energetic games can leave me wheezing with exhaustion just thinking about playing them and EGttR is a perfect respite from the shootbang games. Honestly, I'd be keen to play more games just like this. The English countryside setting in particular made it extra special. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 2017 Honestly, who actually puts Mario Kart on their top games list? Well thinking about it and looking at play records it's probably the perfect couch multiplayer game but with a real challenging depth to those looking to break records and get a hold of those elusive gold kart components. Splatoon 2 2017 Cheating slightly here by including Splatoon 2 and the Octo Expansion as one entry. I'm really not a huge fan of the central competitive gameplay of Splatoon, although I've put in the hours, but the single player side of things are a worthy first person puzzler(?) in their own right. Into the Breach 2018 When the options paralysis sets in, which is often, I just spin up Into the Breach. Three hours and a few runs later I'll question why I don't play this game even more often. Hundreds of hours in and still challenges to do, runs to try. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate 2018 Part game, part nerdy love letter to gaming, part video game museum. Pokemon Sword and Shield 2019 Okay as Richie pointed above any of the pokemon mainline series could have filled this slot but the last one makes most sense. Twas also a good decade for the spinoffs. I enjoyed Pokemon Conquest a huge deal, put an embarrassing amount of time into Quest as well as Picross, Rumble, Duel, Go and mystery dungeons. And there we have it, lists, we'll be back at some point in the future with more lists, perhaps with a list spanning the last 2 decades, to present you with our Game of the Century (spoilers, it's SSX Tricky). Also if anyone has a word to describe my above rant about the act of proactively dismissing something despite knowing it will be good to avoid committing to the time sink, please let me know. Christmas is a time of year where you can enjoy time with family, over indulge with turkey and enjoy the festive season. However, you might be looking for other ways to spend your time once the food coma has subsided. Here are a list of games that are perfect to crack open during the month of December 2018.

RPGs are awesome, so many different creations, universes, storylines, decisions to be made and a multitude of sub-genres to experience. However, you have to admit they do take up a good deal of time specially with variations of builds or even difficulty modes to choose from. This is why times like the Christmas holidays is the right opportunity to settle in and tackle that game you’ve been waiting to put some time aside for. We’ve got a list of titles that are ready to whisk you away for an adventure or two.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I don’t know about you but nothing says festive than the fantasy world of Elder Scrolls. I’ve been recently playing a lot of Elder Scrolls Online (I know, completely different game type and time frame according to the Elder Scrolls series), visiting the frosty town of Wrothgar has me thinking back to the snowy veil of the Skyrim world. Venture on a journey or two, choose between joining the Imperials or the rebellious Stormcloaks. Shout out your Fus-Ro-Dah and maybe tackle a Dragon? Just be careful not to get caught killing chickens, they don’t take that offence lightly.

While we wait for pretty much any news of Elder Scrolls 6 (seriously Bethesda when?) it’s a good time to revisit Skyrim now that it’s available on more platforms than ever, launching not only on Nintendo Switch this year but also PSVR. If you really want to get into the roleplaying aspect and feel like you’re really there, PSVR could be for you, not mention the VR title just won an award at this year’s Playstation Awards 2018.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available on PS4, PSVR, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Moonlighter

A game that combines being a hero AND allows you to get paid for it by selling your loot at prices you decide…well as long as your customers think it’s fair that is. This retro inspired pixel RPG Moonlighter let’s players roleplay as a shopkeeper by day and brave adventurer by night. As you slay monsters and beasts, you can gain items that you can sell in your very own shop. But be warned, it’s not only the monsters that are mischievous, thieves will try to steal your precious wares when you’re not looking.

This quirky game does well to bring a new spin to inventory management, some items are cursed and can cause items stacked below, to be destroyed. If this doesn’t stop those with hoarding habits I know know what will.

Moonlighter is available to play on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Dead Cells

If you’re looking for souls rogue-lite to play this Xmas look no further, Dead Cells will promise action, challenge and death and then death again in this metroidvania inspired title. The graphics are in 2D artstyle that is not only amazingly detailed but provide satisfying hack and slash effects when taking on enemies. Combat is unforgiving yet rewarding and if you truly want to up the stakes try perma-death. Choose from over 50 weapons, making this one you can play again and again.

Dead Cells is available to play PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Octopath Traveller

If you’re looking for a game that not only combines retro nostalgia but comes with some more modern features, then look no further than this versatile RPG that will have you reminiscing with the ghost of Final Fantasy’s past. Octopath Traveller is a turned-based game that follows the lives of eight characters each with a special talent. While the conversations throughout are mostly text based, Octopath does mix in some voice lines to help you feel more immersed. While the stories aren’t super explicit, it does contain more mature content specially when it comes to the “entertainer” Primrose, which does hold some strong suggestions.

Those who have played previous Square Enix games especially early Final Fantasy titles will definitely find the gameplay to be quite familiar, however there is a modern twist with the added “boost” mechanic which gives increased power attacks. As Octopath is available on the Switch, players can also take their gameplay on the go, or play in docked mode to enjoy a larger screen experience.

Octopath Traveller is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch.

CrossCode

Looking for something fast paced? A feel of an MMO but without actually having to play online with other people? Then this one could very well be for you. This gem combines puzzles, a feeling of a wide-world to explore and a fast action shooter all in one. If you like the puzzle elements that made Zelda so popular, you will enjoy the clicky world of CrossCode.

Experience a storyline that revolves around an android that suffers amnesia, navigate the MMO world of “CrossWorlds” while running into some feisty characters and some not-so friendly players who will even challenge you to PvP. If you’re looking for a unique RPG to play this season, this one will keep you entertained for quite some time.

Dragon age inquisition first playthrough #3 (skipped A LOT of storyline between these)

Vivenne can go fuck herself right on over that balcony if she keeps fighting me about freeing the mages. I dont care how hot she is.

Actually no just fuck vivienne. Like we move in and not even one trip later she has someone moving my shit around to "see how far i can be pushed"? Ugh. She's gorgeous and strong and powerful but fuck if she ain't gonna get punched. I hope she's sitting in my game wondering why i never take her anywhere.

Solas is such a prat. I can't figure him out. Like. I say one thing he approves. I say the same thing he disapproves. I can't. He has no direct line and ugh.

I support solas's interest in cole but he has to chill, man. I appreciate the hell out of varric for cole's quest. Solas doesn't care about cole, just about studying him.

FUCK THESE SPIDERS MAN. I was in this cave right and they just DROPPED OUT OF NOWHERE. Like i actually screamed and scared a guy outside my window walking his dog. I had to take like a 15 minute break holy shit.

I fucked up and did all of iron bull's romance scenes in one go so now i'm bored but i locked it in so i'm stuck with that lame scene where they walk out of the bar and he smacks my ass and we kiss. Ugh. I've done it like 30 times already. So bored.

Oh and also i found out if you dont romance him (or dorian, but my inky is fem so it doesnt matter,) then he and dorian end up together??? So now i feel bad. This is garrus and tali all over again man

The height mechanisms for dwarf relationships are bullshit. Like. Somehow my tiny ass is face to face with iron bull? And all it takes for him to kiss me is to slightly bend his head? Or there was a scene with cassandra where we lean on a railing together. My inky is literally a foot off the ground. And then at dinner with cole my head is barely above the table like what? Lazy man. Lazy.

I can definitively say i prefer fighting skyrim dragons much more. Ive killed 3 high dragons so far (hinterlands, western approach, crestwood) and each one took me like a solid 15 minutes. Shits ridiculous man.

It took me halfway through the game to realize i can just invisi-powder my way past enemies i dont wanna fight. Bruh. Life changing.

Im already planning my next inky but im so torn on my class because like. I want to do something different. But i also REALLY like being able to invisi-powder my way past enemies i dont wanna fight. And mages are hella impossible to find good weapons for. Ffs. All my other people have like 250dps but my mages are all still barely breaking 100 because this bitch cant find a powerful staff to save her life (literally.)

Merchants, other than the dude in crossroads with infinite elfroot, are pretty much completely useless in this game.

skyrim time... i may have accidentally created several future serial killers. u know how it is

so i went to investigate what was going on at that orphanage to drive a kid to black magic ritual sacrifice to try to summon assassins to murder the owner

this was the first thing i heard upon entering said orphanage, not a good first impression,

talked to the kids, the old lady, and the assistant working there, turns out “grelod the kind” is an ironic nickname bc shes Just Awful, doesnt even want the kids to be adopted, they all hate her, everyone hates her, they’re all miserable, there’s CLEAR evidence that shes been locking them in a room shackled to the wall as punishments/possibly starving them/etc, and the assistant lady seemed nice/the kids like her so its like, if the old lady dies the kids will be taken care of,

while i do not think this was a situation that necessarily called for murder, Gotta Do Something, right,

so. i just. kind of. quietly followed her into her room and shut the door

her very recently arrow-struck corpse suddenly. teleported out into the main room for some reason and the kids were DELIGHTED :’ )

i dont know how the hell i got away with this. strange shady looking woman with a bow enters orphanage. goes into old lady’s room and shuts the door behind her. moments later old lady is found dead with an arrow in her back. who could have done this

this poor guard... i dont know what he was trying to do but he took off running past me so i followed him for a bit to see where he was going and he got stuck on a rock. ran in place for a bit. then just kinda stopped and stood there staring off into the distance. help him
