I loved your book! Where and how do you get the idea of writing a queer retelling of the fall of Satan? And is there any particular reason that out of all angels it is Michael that Lucifer fell for?

I wrote a long post about why I wrote the book and where it came from but TLDR: I have a lot of trauma regarding my gender/sexuality and Catholicism from growing up in a very Catholic Mexican community and from the couple months in a Christian conversion therapy situation. Queerness was forcibly associated with the devil in my brain, which I still have trouble shaking off, and I basically said, "Ok, let's say Satan is queer then–"

(I should also mention I was really amused by how queer a lot of angel-related texts were – Paradise Lost Book 8, for example, implying all angels are male-ish but have weird sex with each other.)

I'm not sure if you're asking why Lucifer fell for Michael in the story or why I decided to make Michael the love interest. If you're interested in why I choose Michael, I briefly talk about that here!

As for why Lucifer fell for Michael? Well, Lucifer obsesses and loves a lot of things in ABM - God, Earth, Michael (and all those things are a lot more similar than you might think). Michael was a lot to Lucifer – not just the person who told him to love himself but also a representation of a thousand things – power, leadership, strength, confidence and even god-ness.

Lucifer lied to himself a lot – ("He was happy, happy, happy. What else could an angel be but happy?") – and so you have to ask yourself how much of Lucifer's nature in Part 1 was genuine, how much of his want to submit ever was. (This isn't to say Lucifer was wickedly tricking the reader, just that he was insecure, he didn't know what he wanted. He was young.) Lucifer was ashamed of himself. It's said over and over, and surely it's true because he cries so much about it. But didn't he secretly want to be seen too, particularly as he aged? He dressed up for the feast at the gallery and painted his lips with pomegranate. He said he was happy serving God, but then he climbed trees and stared upward, waiting for Michael to return with a universe on his back.

Then Michael did return, and he pampered Lucifer and inflated the ego that maybe always wanted to be just a little bigger, wanted to be guided there. Plus, Michael is really hot. I'm serious. And it goes both ways. Michael fell in love with Lucifer instantly when he saw him from afar because of his beauty. They're both a bit self-absorbed for this: Lucifer wanted the strongest angel to love him, and Michael wanted the most beautiful.

But Lucifer loved Michael's pride, that he did more than just desire him, shyly, from afar: "But [Michael] looked at [Lucifer] differently, calling for him always differently, uttering his name fearlessly, taking and grabbing Lucifer in a way no other angel had the pride to do... 'You do not desire me.' ... 'Because you know I'm already yours." They're both full of themselves, really, but they like it in each other.

And, lastly, "Michael" derives from the Hebrew for "who is like God?". On one hand, Lucifer falling so fast and hard for Michael is just a continuation of his adoration of God (and a much better fit, because Lucifer can speak to Michael like an equal, he can relate to him, he can love him sincerely). And there's something really poetic, too, about Lucifer kissing and embracing and wanting to intermingle with this question of who is God. It's like he's answering it, like he's trying to say, "Me. It's Me."

Winter concpets.....

First up, a Winter Sharena concept!

The last panel would have been Sharena begging to "steal Alfonse's body warmth" while Alfonse subtly/sarcastically teases her about it, Moe trailing behind them (I lost steam/focus though 🥲)

This was The Year Of Bruno as well, and I was testing out/playing with the scenario presented (From the Tempest Trials and from what Winter Bruno says, it seems Alfonse and Sharena spent the holiday together while the Summoner was spending it with Bruno the Envoy)

(funny aspect of this is I don't even really enjoy "why does so and so call you babygirl" jokes anymore LMFAOOO like. Nothing wrong w em and was a decent set up here, but Moe would Not Fucking Say That skskksk) (also you can Tell this is Early On in Moe's development bc its fangs aren't even piercings 😔)

This year I Did revisit Winter Concepts, espp wanting to redo my Idea of a winter Moe who's helping out Bruno with Envoy Duty

All it needed was to become more of a furry and some loose BDSM gear inspo 👍 I was also thinking about a few different things! Like how Bruno's fit is literally just his regular outfit with some Santa suit on top LMFAO. But I was also thinking about how Moe is probably not meant to be recognized here? If it is hanging out with Bruno? Who is actively avoiding being seen by Alfonse and Sharena? So Moe keeps the shoes/tights, but little else!

Final version would have most closely resembled this one!

Once again I'm parsing how okay well how are they interacting with each other. What's the vibe here?

I wanted to draw a bigger piece of them hanging out, maybe spending the night together by the fire with hot cocoa after a hard day's work (again thinking about how it's implied the summoner spent the holiday separately from Alfonse/Sharena). I may revisit the concept again, I feel like there's a lot of potential story-focused comic wise here.... and a lot of set up for some funny conflict later.

Hello ! I don’t know if you remember I am the person who was watching new girl during her exams ! Ok so we need to talk about the Indian wedding convention episode because it made me think of your au and what would happen with obikin ! I was imaging instead of a convention it was more like a couple retreat to bring couple closer and Anakin wanted to do that for him and padme (feeling guilty about his ongoing attraction with obi-wan). However padme can’t because of her job (for a campaign or something) and she tells him to go with Obi-wan because she doesn’t want to waste money and she thinks it’s funny. Obi-wan agrees because he doesn’t know how to say no but also and guiltily he wants to spend some time alone with Anakin. Obviously there was only one bed. And like in the wedding convention épisode they do activities that show how compatible with each other they are (and it can make a good parallel with the « they were the two parts of the same warrior » thing). And when they come back they are closer than ever and maybe Padme realises something’s off. Or maybe they make out again and Anakin has to tell padme what is going on because he feels guilty (like Jess in new girl). However I don’t see them getting in awkward make out sessions like Jess and Nick once Anakin is single 😂 maybe they have angry sec though ? I don’t know…

Anyway I hope you’re well ! Please take your time and don’t feel guilty with not writing or finishing ongoing projects ! It remains a fun hobby and you will feel inspired when the time comes. In the time being I am reading your fics (again) because they are such a confort (i love the one where Obi-wan is cursed and can’t touch Anakin, the pining is excellent in this one). omg that is such a good idea tbh!! padmé would be like, "why don't you take obi-wan? you guys get along and he definitely needs some time off! go and have some fun" while there are sirens going off in anakin's head. obi-wan of course agrees because, well, padmé is basically sanctioning this (the trip, not another make out, obi-wan has to remind himself), he could use some time off and having anakin keeping him company is a treat he can't say no regardless how much the rational part of his brain keeps telling him that this is a bad idea.

meanwhile neither padmé nor obi-wan know that anakin actually booked a romantic trip that he can't refund or change to something decidedly unromantic. and the thing is, anakin is resourceful, okay, he found out that if you tell these people that you're newlywed, they provide upgrades to these couples retreats, and he thinks padmé would've laughed about it, maybe it would've been a hilarious joke or he would've proposed, maybe maybe maybe. but he arrives with obi-wan who sort of looks like he's chewing on a whole lemon when they step into the room and it's covered with rose petals, there's cheap champagne in a cooler (mind you, this isn't an expensive retreat), strawberries, couples bathrobes and a bowl with condoms next to the bed.

anakin thinks it's the perfect atmosphere to have sex. and when he thinks that he realizes he isn't even thinking about padmé and he feels guilty but also not, and he really doesn't know what to make of it all.

neither of them offers to not sleep on the bed. but anakin notices that obi-wan is uneasy and a bit restless, and thinks it's because he doesn't want to share the bed with anakin and it irritates him because!! obi-wan could've just not come on this trip and anyway, he kissed anakin and then never did or said anything about it again, and--. so he snaps that obi-wan should stop fussing and just go to sleep. and obi-wan being obi-wan snorts at that brilliant idea but then quietly admits that he has trouble sleeping in new places, and this mattress broadcasts every little movement anakin does and jostles him which doesn't help.

and if you asked either obi-wan or anakin later, neither could tell you how exactly they ended up like this, but anakin ends up big-spooning obi-wan (to minimize the jostling through the mattress) (and to help obi-wan sleep) (supposedly) (they both don't get a lot of sleep) and it feels so good. obi-wan smells incredible, he's broad and firm under anakin's hands, so different from padmé, so wonderfully solid, and again anakin feels so guilty and at the same time not at all because being pressed up against obi-wan like this feels amazing.

they do all these compatibility challenges the next day and they do them so well, it's flows so smoothly, it's effortless, and everyone is so impressed by them, that perfectly in-sync couple, and anakin glows because this is all he ever wanted. but it's with obi-wan. and anakin is with padmé. and he wonders if these challenges would've been as easy with her but now he'll never know. he finds that he doesn't even really care because he's ecstatic that he managed them so well with obi-wan. who isn't his boyfriend.

anyway, it's probably a whole mess and obi-wan is losing his mind because apparently they're really compatible (which, he tells himself, is very stupid to think and latch onto because of some silly little party games but his massive crush on anakin is just running with it). and anakin keeps looking at him with big blue eyes and a dazzling smile, all happy and flushed, and it's so so hard not to kiss him again, kiss him stupid, kiss him until he forgets all about padmé and just stays with obi-wan.
