Fixed a major bug that was popping up in the new 'The Hunt' game type for today's Bloodborne Kart dev post!

I'll explain the bug in further detail below the cut, but now that the bug is fixed we have a fully playable game type, so check out a match!

The bug went like this: Randomly during gameplay during this game type, I found that some kart racers would seemingly forget how to drive and just ram into the nearest wall. Using a lot of debugging, I was able to narrow it down to 'the enemy I am targeting does not exist'

Loong story short I was able to detect when this 'brain dead' state happens & direct them to a new enemy target

This doesn't fix the source problem, (which is 'why are they targeting a null reference in the first place?') but it does address the issue, which is good enough for me!

#bloodborne kart #i brought this up on stream but #knowing when to cut your losses and move on is an important skill to have in game dev #and life in general i guess lol #basically this bug was kinda rare and exclusive to a single game type with ai racers #meaning that dumping hours and hours into fixing this bug 'the right way' wouldnt be worth it in my personal opinion #so this 'quick and easy hack fix' that doesnt address the issue but instead works around it was my backup plan #and sometimes u gotta do that if u want ur game to come out at a reasonable time and not 10 years from now ya know? #liliths mind

a lot of people think test prep tutoring is about test strategies (and parents often seem to want this or think it’s what their child is missing) but while there are some “test strategies” you can use they are typically much more effective for students who are already doing quite well relative to the pack at large because they require a fair amount of understanding and skill to learn well enough to utilize

#my really hot take is i don’t really think Just Doesn’t Test Well is a thing #i think some kids have weaknesses that inhibit testing achievement more than they inhibit other kinds of performance #but there’s always a problem that is in fact a problem not exclusive to tests #except i guess kids whose main issue is pacing. but kids who struggle with pacing but are otherwise doing great are….. rare #and if their parents can pay for test prep tutoring they are probably getting extra time lol #anyway. mostly Doesn’t Test Well means either they have some significant and real skill gaps and weaknesses #that can be faked around to make it seem like they’re sort of always “almost getting it” or “not quite there” #instead of the reality which is they have an incredibly shaky grasp on math fundamentals or can’t comprehend complex texts #or they’re strong on fundamentals and struggle with Attention To Detail #which. again. more salient on tests and admissions related tests do seem to be designed to trap takers on this one constantly #but it’s a legitimate issue #if you got the problem wrong because you answered a different question than the one that was asked bc you missed a word #you didn’t do the problem right

Okay so, this evening I said that I am not going to bed until I make a progress in Elden Ring because I've abandoned the quest to finally beat it

.....it is 5 AM now 🙃 fhghfhh

Okay, but I actually went SOMEwhere? I let Melina burn herself (oof..), met Maliketh (Val warned me to not kill him just yet), went all the way down to Erdtree, finished Milicent's quest and met Malenia (even get to her 2nd phase xd) So yeah, night well spent! Three things though:

1) I had no, I mean NO fucking CLUE at ALL that Gowry apparently was something like Shabriri; the guy that transcended the bounds of having a body and now switches 'vessels', and has no balls capacity to "fuckin do it yourself then, if you're so darn smart" about the power they preach, but does try to pitch a Lord/God for it in someone else. Incredible. I want to thank everyone who never talked about Gowry, because I appreciated the plot twist :')

2) The flower before we find Malenia is confusing, because, yeah, the clothes set found near it is the same as the one five sisters wear.. I am more leaning towards the idea that there was another person like Milicent that bloomed 🤔

3) I kind of expected a bit... worse, from her fight? Honestly, that slashing swords attack (Waterfall Dance, if I am not mistaken?) could have lasted just a bit less long, but I think otherwise she is manageable? I tried a few things and figured to keep her at enough distance to reliably attack with Starcaller Cry (Radahn's swords), since it will also often throw her off her feet, and for the second stage I summon a spirit ash for distraction and start spamming glintstone spells and pray she doesn't notice me gfhhhfjh Basically, it depends on my luck whether she will slash in stage 1 or not and on my ability to react at her moves fast enough. Can't say whether strength+int built is simply good or I am too tired for gamer rage though 🤔

But yeah, hopefully I will get through this battle in the next episode of fucking around and finding out xd

#I think I’m at that annoying stage nobody ever talks about #where I was in survival mode for literally years #like FIVE YEARS #and now I think I’ve found a med regiment that works #and my life has kinda been reclaimed #but now I need to relearn how to function in society? #like normally if I had any energy it was devoted to making the most of my day bc I just never had energy and needed enjoyment #but now that I’m getting that daily it’s like. okay. time to focus on making the most of every day #but I have so much work to do lol. and I need to relearn how to overwork myself #like relearn how to have that willpower and desire to pursue goals that are hard which got me to where I am #clearly I have it. #but like I lost that… discipline while sick. and now that I think I’ve fixed the issue I haven’t fully recommitted to recovering it #there’s so many skills I wanna develop on top of my career #but I think my career is so ambiguous with its goals and shit that it’s easy to feel ok with things and let stuff slide #so that’s my goal for the remainder of the year. #fully refocus on developing routines and boundaries #and if I have to go overboard and sign up for classes etc to relearn then so be it #but I need to regain that discipline #idk it’ll all work out but for now I just gotta relax + unwind + change my habits #I guess you don’t think about how being chronically unwell for five years ingrains bad habits in you #so that even when you’re better you have to actively unlearn business as usual and develop something new for your routine #I’ll make it work. it’s just gonna take some time. down to be patient with myself as I relearn that lol
