So I really, really want to make that skelefam backstory comic I mentioned one of these days, and in the meantime i thought it would do me some good to practice my gaster design a bit more!

A couple of design choices I should note: I tried to make him as papyrus-like as I could while still keeping something that’s purely Him, since I want their similarities to be a pretty big part of their relationship. The right eye scar was a result of the events in the story, so for now he only has the one that runs down his eye (a little souvenir from the War, if you will). Oh, also I gave him glasses because I want to make him do the anime glasses thing at some point lmaoo. Hope you guys enjoy!

Callout for Skeleton Undertale OCs

When I was initially making my outline for HTBAB I wanted to keep skeletons rare, and I still kinda do, but I realized that I still need a few for when Gaster is fighting in the war.

So if you’ve got Undertale skeleton OCs that aren’t related to the skelefam, or can be reworked to fit in a non-related war setting, send them my way! Can be links to their bios thru messenger or asks or whatever.

I can’t promise they’ll make it into the story, but if they do you’ll be given credit. :)

I am aware that my hiatus is going on and on and on. I do think about getting back to writing, I do have sudden thoughts about the next chapters. However, I’m currently self-employed, which means... all the time I spend on something that isn’t work (or important adult stuff) OR actual rest and self-care feels... not right. I am figuring that out though.

Thank you again! I’m so glad that my story stays with you, that’s more than I wished for when I started posting this. I still have Eggy and the Miserable Lot and the rest of the skelefam in my heart too.

Important Update!

Alright folks, Silver here with an important update concerning the blog. It’s nothing bad! But Lore and I have decided to take a style shift, and it’s one that’s been planned for a while now.

As of now, regularly scheduled chronological stories have ended.

But that doesn’t mean the blog has ended! That doesn’t mean we don’t have more to share and tell! We have a few stories, even a continuation of the last one, in the works but it’s more or less come to the point that the mun duo will get to them when they get to them. For over a year we’ve both been hard-pressed in writing a lot of content to fit the regular posting schedule I set out for us. Now that the major storyline is coming to a rest through story perspective, we decided it was time for us to finally take things at our own pace. Less stress, less nerves, all that snazzy jazz.

So stories will continue, but they’ll be closer to one shots and they’ll come at random times. They’ll be important to the timeline we’ve put in place, they just won’t likely be chronological. But hey, that’s why we have that one chrono section on the about page to locate em!

So what’s going to happen in the mean time? Well!

The style change is going towards a Story-Ask Blog. Stories will still go up as previously mentioned, but the characters will also take questions from here on out in the style of an ask blog. This is not an rp blog, just to make it clear, just one you can ask questions to. The Skelefam will respond in their Post Broken Barrier selves, and their answers will depend on what stories are put up!

So! A briefing, or TLDR:

* Stories will no longer be on a regular schedule. They will be posted at random intervals as either one shots or continuations of others.

* The blog style is shifting, turning more prominently toward an Ask Blog. Not accepting RPs. Asks potentially story driven in the future, TBD.

And with that, these changes are effective immediately! So don’t be shy, go ahead and ask away! The rules page has been updated with a few small guidelines for this change.

What is ChryTale?

The AU in which Zero at the Bone takes place.

What if a genocide run was the first thing that happened in the Underground’s history? And the killer wasn’t even a human? Created after AmberTale, and there are many character similarities, but everyone’s at least slightly different.

Characters in order of focus: Grillby and Gaster, Toriel, Chara (listed late b/c she takes a while to show up but very central when she does), Tahoma and Eras, smol Sans and Papyrus.

Warnings for: genocide, body horror, child abuse and crazy humans with guns and nukes. Apocalyptic themes throughout.

Defining Characteristics:

Immediate genocide. Some species of monster become extinct right off the bat, and there are various lasting repercussions.

The Dump doesn’t exist--rather, it’s in a caved-in, inaccessible portion of the Underground. So the monsters have no contact with the outside world and don’t know what the human race is up to, or even if it’s become extinct.

The Black Plague hit the humans right after the Barrier was created, thus the monsters’ confusion as to whether the human race still exists or not.

Asgore is dead, and Toriel rules as queen of the Underground.

For reasons which should be obvious, Asriel never existed.

The monsters never left Home, which is sealed with a low-level magical barrier to protect the monsters inside. In order to pass through the barrier in either direction, Toriel, who made it, has to sync the user’s soul with the barrier. The barrier is maintained by everyone’s combined magic.

Snowdin has become a refuge for monsters who don’t want to ‘pay the toll’ of soul-magic for the Home barrier, for various reasons. Tahoma and Eras, for example, need to use their magic for healing and can’t afford to have it drained by another source. *Well, they could, but it would interfere with how much energy they had available with which to heal.

Tahoma and Eras are alive. Rephrase: the skelefam appears in the story at a time when Sans and Paps are tiny and both parents are alive. Their dynamic is flipped from what it was in AmberTale: in this case, Eras is emotionally resilient and Tahoma gets burned out.

Partly because they don’t have the Dump and partly because the population is smaller, the monsters’ technology is much less advanced, and tends to develop in different directions than parallel human technology when it does develop.

Undyne does not exist, as the Undines became extinct shortly after the genocide.

A young Alphys is briefly seen selling junk with Bratty and Catty. Since they’re the first monsters who successfully get into the general area of the dump and find objects from the human world, they become heroes of a sort. They live in Snowdin.

Chara is a girl who has an obsession with knives.

Unlike in AmberTale, Crawlers do not exist and Suger is nice.

Also unlike in AmberTale, Gaster is Lv 1 with zero EXP, a true pacifist. And he lacks AmberGaster’s army of cats and obsession with tea.

After the completion of the first arc, Gaster’s bones are stained to a charcoal color.
