My, How Time Flies

March 24th was our tenth anniversary, and it whizzed right on by! So much has changed in the young adult publishing world since this site started back in 2013, and we've loved spending the years with you reading books starring or written by BIPOC. In celebration of this ten-year anniversary, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some site numbers:

Niji Chikara is here! It’s real! You can read it right now!!

I have a LOT to say about it, so more under the cut:

Why a webcomic?

So yeah, I did previously advertise Niji Chikara as an animated series. But my younger self greatly underestimated the amount of time it takes to finish a single episode, let alone an entire series, so eventually I had to concede that this wasn't going to happen any time soon. Maybe someday in the future, there can be an "anime" version, but for now, I think it's better to stick to the manga, so to speak.

That said, there's some stuff that I made for the animated version, including several songs and some storyboards, that I'll probably end up releasing at some point, so stay tuned for that!

What's the update schedule?

I've opted to draw the entirety of chapter 1 ahead of time, which I'm hoping is enough of a buffer that I can work on the next chapters and release them without significant interruptions. Life's a lot more hectic these days, so it might not work out that way, but I can at least guarantee a consistent update schedule of one page every Saturday until the end of chapter 1. (Aside from today, where I thought it would be better to post the whole intro at once!)

Which brings me to my next point...

What about Aiiro No Kunoichi?

Truth be told, I'm not sure what to do with Aiiro No Kunoichi. Unlike Niji Chikara, where I already know the majority of what will happen from start to finish, I started Aiiro No Kunoichi with the idea that I would be able to come up with storylines as I went... which obviously didn't end up happening. That, combined with my general unfamiliarity with the subject material, left me really unhappy with the comic.

But the characters still mean a lot to me, with Cap'n Merritt in particular being a beloved cornerstone of this website, so I don't want to give up on them completely. Maybe Sanori is better suited for being a video game protagonist—I definitely still want to finish Aiiro No Kunoichi: The Game! someday—but I dunno, I'll figure something out.

All that being said, I'm quite excited for Niji Chikara. I've been working on this story for a LONG time, and there's already a few reveals that have been a long time coming (another look at Rising Darkness may prove interesting for you long-time fans). I hope you guys enjoy it, too!

i'm begging you guys to start pirating shit from streaming platforms. there are so many websites where you can stream that shit for free, here's a quick HOW TO:

1) Search for: watch TITLE OF WORK free online

2) Scroll to the bottom of results. Click any of the "Complaint" links

3) You will be taken to a long list of links that were removed for copyright infringement. Use the 'find' function to search for the name of the show/movie you were originally searching for. You will get something like this (specifics removed because if you love an illegal streaming site you don't post its url on social media)

4) each of these links is to a website where you can stream shit for free. go to the individual websites and search for your show/movie. you might have to copy-paste a few before you find exactly what you're looking, but the whole process only takes a minute. the speed/quality is usually the same as on netflix/whatever, and they even have subtitles! (make sure to use an adblocker though, these sites are funded by annoying popups)

In conclusion, if you do this often enough you will start recognizing the most dependable websites, and you can just bookmark those instead. (note: this is completely separate from torrenting, which is also a beautiful thing but requires different software and a vpn)

you can also download the media in question (look for a "download" button built into the video window, or use a browser extension such as Video DownloadHelper.)

#for adblocking--ublock origin is my favorite but adblocker plus is also popular #also i once again highly recommend using firefox especially on mobile #to enable adblock on firefox mobile just click 3 dot menu > addons > addon manager > enable uBlockOrigin #that's for android i assume it's similar for iOS #update it is NOT similar for iOS bc Apple hates you. i'll write another post later #anyway. PLEASE USE AN ADBLOCK ALL THE TIME (except for specific websites you want to support) #your internet browsing experience will be so enormously improved #also on firefox if you want to get past a paywall click the 'Toggle reader view' button as soon as the page loads #(it's on the right of the taskbar. a little rectangle with horizontal lines) #works for most news sites by showing you the webpage text that is hidden under the 'you've run out of free articles' popup #doesn't work for everything but it's worth a shot
