lagertha?

do I like them: I completely adored her in s1 and s2.  A lot of what I think I dislike about Lagertha I really can’t necessarily attribute to her but to horrible writing and the fans’ idolization of her.  Like, the entire thing where she got mad at Aslaug for stealing her husbands 20+ years before... never made sense and I can’t even necessarily chalk it up to her character.  I watch s1 and 2 and love her again, basically, but after that...

5 good qualities: She’s a loving mother; she fights but doesn’t give up her compassion; she’s got a good hold on expressing her femininity without losing her warmongering side, which I do still like; she had enough self-worth to never actually get back together with Ragnar, even though she loved him (which I don’t fault her for, you can’t control your feelings; she hasn’t wavered from the old gods while remaining pretty tolerant.  

3 bad qualities: Again not sure how much of this is her fault...  She’s no politician.  Lagertha wasn’t that even before Hirst fucked up her character, which is why I feel that realistically her time as queen would result in failure--she’s a warrior, not a diplomat.  She lets her love for people like Ragnar and Bjorn cloud her judgment of how much responsibility they had in their own misdeeds--but that’s a new thing from recent seasons tbh.  She’s pretty hypocritical all-around these days, but I found the fact that she was willing to use Margrethe as a sexual distraction for the Ragnarssons while also presenting herself as a champion of women pretty rich.

favourite episode/etc: My favorite episode for Lagertha was probably in season 1.  I think in episode 4 she killed Knut after catching him raping a woman--that was pretty iconic.  I also loved.. it was either ep 6 or ep 7 when Ragnar killed Haraldson and Lagertha revealed she was pregnant with ill-fated baby no. 3 and everything was awesome for a minute.

otp: LAGERTHA/ASLAUG.  I shipped it so hard after s2 but that got shot to hell.  In an abstract writing way I appreciate her relationship with Ragnar for what it was, but the show never acknowledged how fucked up it was so.  Whatever.

brotp: I loved her relationship with Siggy.

ot3: Lagertha x Aslaug x Siggy

notp: Lagertha/Ecbert was always super weird to me and just an extension of how much Ecbert wanted to fuck Ragnar (and Athelstan lbr)

best quote: I personally loved when she threatened to rip the lungs out of Athelstan’s body if anything happened to her kids while he was babysitting lmao.

head canon: She did have an affair with Rollo back in the day and was never 100% sure about who was Bjorn’s dad.  Because they definitely hinted at that and never followed up on it lmao.
