You know what's funny about s2e19? Sophie is trying hard to look for a reason to break up Jesse and Parker but who does she recruit to help in her shenanigans? Sid. Not the first time she's involving him in something. Remember the hot dog episode?
She's trying to get back with her ex but spending the whole time doing partners-in-crime with a different guy and inadvertently highlighting her close relationship with Sid. Aside from Val, Sid is her go-to person in the group. So it's interesting that the episode before Hannah makes the assumption that Sophie was the person Sid might have potentially gotten romantically close with, we see why she might have thought so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the way he just goes along with her antics and how they both get lost in their delusions. The way they know little random quirks about each other. They clicked from the very beginning and have always had good banter. They just get each other so well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe it's my tunnel vision anytime I see them within 1 foot of each other, but lately, it also seems like they're very comfortable around each other. I've noticed little arm touches or hugs they give each other, especially from Sophie's end. It comes so naturally.
So again, it makes sense that Hannah immediately blurted out Sophie's name when he suggested he got close to someone. She could have said Val who's also in their friend group. She didn't even assume it could have been someone she didn't know. But she specifically said Sophie for a reason. His relationship with Sophie is very close and she sees it.

Another whole reason why I believe in my heart that Sid is Sophie’s baby daddy is the fondness they both have for each other.
When adult Sophie tells the story about the father, she has so much fondness talking about him. Ruling out Charlie since he’s confirmed to be out of the game, we can say that she has fondness for Jesse too. However, if you look into it a lot closer, her fondness when talking about Sid is different.
Do I sound like I’m reading into this? Perhaps. But I major in communication arts where film is also tackled so bear with me.
We are watching the show in the perspective of Sophie narrating. In stories about her relationship with Jesse, Sophie had negative quips on the situation. Whereas with stories about her friendship with Sid, Sophie didn’t have something bad to say about him. Take for example the episode where Sid was almost gonna meet with Taylor after going into a state of emotionally cheating on Hannah, instead of Sophie telling her son something negative (like how mad she was when Jesse kissed Meredith and got back together with her), she emphasizes that Sid is not that type of guy. That he wouldn’t purposely cheat on Hannah like that.
On another note, Sid himself as the story is narrated has some sort of fondness for Sophie. It feels less obvious right now, but the way he banters with Sophie, smiles at her antics, and goes along with her crazy ideas is something. I got my friend to start watching the show, and she says that Sid really reminds her of Ted (but honestly Sid is more lovable LMAO). I started looking into her statement after that and I did pick up things like Sid owning Ted’s room, him a romantic, and having some similar quirks. And you know? This could all be coincidental. BUT the entire “How I Met” franchise is built upon the legend of the red string (what TikTok calls the “invisible string theory”). And based on what we have from the show so far, only Sid really fits that category as being invisibly tied to Sophie as he had the poster of Sophie’s mom that was taken while pregnant with Sophie.
Don’t get me wrong, it is hard to actually say if my analysis is correct (because it could be wrong). A part of me still thinks that the father could be Jesse, but I’m set on betting Sid.

I 1000% ship Sid and Sophie. In the first episode I did actually ship Sophie and Jesse but I do find that ship kind of predictable, in my opinion.
Additionally, I think Sophie and Jesse are too similar and instead of the grounding each other, they will make each other fly to the sky. Just like how Drew is too logical and does not support Sophies ambitions, Jesse is the complete opposite end of the spectrum, you need a balance, you need someone that will support you but also ground you and I think Sid is the person who does that for Sophie, for example they had this conversation episode six of season one where Sid correctly assumes that Sophie feels like her life the rug has been pulled out of her and that shows that he understands her in a way that probably many other people do not. Also in the first episode, they got along very well. I also like their repertoire and the way they tease each other.
I do feel like Jesse has an idealized version of Sophia’s head from when he first met her.

*sigh*
Another one of my shows gets canceled 😭
I guess I'm only getting my sidsophie endgame in my delusions 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
This would have been such an amazing satisfying slow burn to watch and would have garnered more fanbase/viewership if tptb were smart enough to give it a chance. It was already gaining momentum in it's second season. The show is literally about shipping and we know how serious people take shipping these days. Social media would have gone crazy. The show just needed more time.
Anyways, while I was dealing with the heartbreak of the show, I began to reminisce about the season 2 finale. For me, three defining things happened that pushed the narrative of who Sophie eventually ends up with. Of course this is a sidsophie narrative.
The 3 things: Sophie and Jesse get back together, the beginning of the end of Sid's marriage to Hannah, and Charlie and possibly Drew being cancelled out in the run for who will be the father.
In season 1, Robin (from himym) was talking to Sophie and saying, "Timing is everything" when it comes to love. It makes me think about the juxtaposition of Sid and Sophie's relationships by the end of season 2. As far as I'm concerned, their season 2 ending was a plot device to a sidsophie endgame. Just when Sophie is reuniting with a love (Jesse), we see the possible end of a love for Sid (his marriage).
Timing.
For any other ship it would have been bad timing, but in their case, it works out well for them.
For Sid and Sophie to eventually get together, Sid's marriage to Hannah needed to end. This is not some girlfriend/boyfriend relationship. It's a marriage. They've been together for yrs. His healing from the break up will take time. In the meantime, Sophie gets to revisit a relationship that was stopped abruptly. There would have always been a "what if" with her and Jesse, so them getting back together was good for her. Prior to Jesse, Sophie had never been in love. I believe having to experience what love is like will prepare her for the great love she will have with Sid.
Plus, she still had to explore something with Ian. So while Sophie is still figuring out her love life, Sid on the other hand is healing from his potential divorce from Hannah. They both need to get to a point where they are ready for each other. The best time for them to come together is when they are both unburdened by their past (Hannah/Jesse) in order to move forward together in their future.
Timing.
Again, sidsophie would have been such an amazing and satisfying slow burn to watch. There are not many shows with good slow burns nowadays. Such a waste smh.

What's the deal with Sid always wearing plaid/checked/stripes. Out of everyone, I feel like he's the only one with a specific dress code. It also seems very intentional because no one else has a specific dress code. And then of all the things to use, plaid and stripes? Like "Hey, spot me." He also sometimes wears red and different shades of blue shirts if he's not wearing his plaid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The color blue represents trust/security/loyalty. Little wonder one of the "somethings" to have on a wedding day is something "blue". Also, what color of shirt does older Sophie wear again? 😏blue, that's right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The color red, well I need not explain what it signifies 😏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Having a character mostly dress in plaid and stripes feels like a nuanced way to get the audience to focus on this character. Almost like they're singling him out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've said this before, I feel like he's the only one out of the bunch (aside Sophie ofcourse), that gets more in-depth storylines and shown to be a really good guy/friend to everyone. He somehow is the only one that has somewhat of a direct connection/relationship with everyone. He's the heart of the group. I mean he literally owns the bar that everyone gathers in. Is that where the stripes/plaid thing comes in? Like they want you to focus on him and his journey without actually telling you in plain words.
Yes I'm pretty sure all the characters have worn stripes or blue or red a couple of times. But they also wear other things all the time. There's nothing specific in their dressing. Sid is the only one that's dressed within this frame. I don't believe I've seen him dress outside of it.
It's probably not a big deal but it's quite interesting to me 🤔

Alright. I’ve been seeing others say that Sid is gonna overthink what Hannah said and develop a crush on Sophie BUT HEAR ME OUT. HEAR ME OUT!!
Instead of that situation, what if we have Sid brush it off and build-up throughout the show that he is unknowingly developing feelings without the questioning part first? So that later, when Sophie and Jesse break up, we can get moments of Sophie and Sid together being friends and everyone noticing something different about them. This then leaves Sid to tell Sophie about Hannah’s accusation and it is Sophie who overthinks it.

I have the perfect idea for how Sid and Sophie could become canon, so we have Sophie and Ian date for a while, then Sophie and Jesse realize they still have feelings for each other and they want to give it a try so we see them date for the next season season and a half or two seasons and the audience realizes that they are not compatible.
They realized they are not compatible because of their communication issues and and they have a bunch of other problems. Maybe Sid mediates their relationship at one point. The person in the relationship who realizes that this cannot go on anymore is Jesse, he’s the one that breaks it off. Sid and Hannah will break up before or around the same time Sophie and Jessie break up. So, Sophie and Sid spend more time together because they both went through the same experience and get closer and closer and even become each other’s best friends besides Valentina and Jesse.
Eventually, Sophie and Sid realize that they are in love and start dating. Jesse reacts in 1 of these 2 ways.
1)Jesse grows a lot as a character because of the previous seasons and he is very happy for Sophie and Sid.
Or if you want drama
2) Jesse is upset but Ellen or Valentina talk to him and he realizes that Sid and Sophie are his friends and he should be happy for them.
In my opinion, the father and Sophie’s endgame are the same person. When Older Sophie talks about the relationship, it is implied that she is still with the person that she’s telling the story about. She has mentioned that she has told her son the story of how she met his father many times and it’s clear that she reflects on the story with fondness. She’s very happy telling the story and I think if a relationship with someone that you really loved failed then there would be a tinge of sadness when telling the story.
I hope in the last episode of the show, the older version of the father comes into the room where Older Sophie is chatting with her son and helps her finish the story. It would be a very sweet ending.

I knew they were scared to put in Sid and Sophie scenes because they are too powerful and there's too much chemistry to ignore

This episode was actually  so good for SidSophie because I finally understood that Sid likes Sophie for Sophie. He pays attention to details, on who she is and how she became who she is. Meanwhile Jesse likes Sophie for how she makes him feel and how she lights up his world. None of these points are necessarily bad, because in the end both lines somehow cross each other. This episodes crumbs made that very clear. But I feel like for things to be authentic on the part of Jesse and Sophie, they have to work a lot on Jesse's character because I think he tends to be a very unstable character.
Sid and Sophie already have the authencity even with little to no scenes for weeks. I always felt that their crumbs are a lot more significant than you might think at first. And that’s also what I meant with both of them having a kind of “key relationship” since the pilot whether platonic or romantic. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why Sid’s presence and plot are so heavy in this story even when he’s not interacting with Sophie. I really hope he’s the father because that would be well done.
The only way I’d accept him not being the father is if he is either the endgame or gets his big indian wedding with Hannah or whomever in the end.
(I just made that key relationship stuff up lmao I mean something like key figure but as in relationship/connection)

Okay but Sophie knows the deeper meaning behind Sid buying the bar. What if that was foreshadowing to her being the one who reminds him of this when he's about to give it up? I mean a bar and "the love of your life" are not comparable at all but it's not just a bar after all. And is it "the one true love" with Hannah? They showed us on multiple occasions that it's always Sid who is the most supportive and that the relationship is not as strong as it seems. They even showed us that it is indeed possible for Sid to have "feelings" or to "crush" for another woman. How would that be possible if Hannah was the one? I know that Sid and Hannah are supposed to be an example for dating in 2022/23 but there's literally not a single reason they are giving us to root for them or why they should force something that's already been cracking.
I'm very excited for this storyline and I guess the part where we learn more about Sids backgroung starts now.

Thoughts & comments on HIMYF 2x13 and I'm in love
it's the SidSophie episode my gosh
opening scene with the camera was so good 😭
Charlie and Jesses plot was mad funny and even when Jesse got on my nerves I still smiled
I think I might be cool with him now because it is what it is ... that's just his character
reminded me a lot of Ted without me feeling sorry for Jesse
Valentina and Ellens plot was 📈📉📈
but I had fun? I laughed a lot and I love this duo
give me this duo again in a storyline that revolves around Ellen I am curious
the Swish plot is thickening lmao and I am very excited for next week 😂
now the Sid and Sophie plot 🫠
it was mostly Sophies plot with Sid as a side character but I enjoyed every moment
I kinda like Sophies dad a lot so I hope there's no nasty plot twist
I love that they bonded over their liabeties that's a full circle to Sophies lying problem in the first few episodes of the season very smart 😁
okay but now I'm sure that they don't put Sid and Sophie together so much because there's too much chemistry to not ship them or interpret stuff
Hilary and Suraj have such a great organic and flowing energy together
you can really feel how it's not forced at all I love it
it's very early but I love the way they look and smile at each other it's so adorable
I love how they know tiny things about each other and talk like they've known each other for years
like the way they talk to each other is so natural and real I'm going crazy
and I love how it's clear that Sophie is the most irritating person to Sid which is perfect for a potential pair up (platonic soulmates or romantic)
maybe I missed it before but did we just find out that Sid doesn't have a connection to his dad ?
I might drop some thoughts about this wuhu
I hope they talk about this again but they never brought up again Charlies mommy issues so ...
well I wished for some direct communication between Nick and Sid but maybe we'll get there later
and Sid is still an amazing friend and such a good person for Sophie
I LOVE Sophies character she's a mess and always says unfunny stuff but her character is so enjoyable
a very good episode again I feel like 2B will be a good ride 🫶🏿
