How to get into The Idolmaster SideM!

have you ever thought to yourself, man, I would love to get into a really cool male idol franchise with characters of a large range of ages and banger songs with themes of always having another chance to find yourself? no? not that specific? well, either way, I'd like to introduce you to the idolmaster sidem, the male branch of the idolmaster franchise!

if you've ever wondered how to get into sidem, or have never heard of it but I've made you curious, feel free to read more!

alright, let's get into it!

my first suggestion would be to watch the anime! it used to be on crunchyroll, but isn't anymore, but you can absolutely find it on any of your favourite...alternative anime viewing websites, if you get me. through the anime, you get to see the beginnings of 315pro, as well as hear more about the origin stories of some of the idol groups there! not all of the units are in the anime, but if you're interested in the units dramatic stars, jupiter, w, highxjoker, sem, and beit, I would highly recommend it for an in depth look at them! not only do you get to see the origins of each unit mentioned, but you also get to see how they all grow alongside one another, helping 315 productions to truly come to thrive!

after watching the main anime, i'd recommend checking out wakeatte mini! wakemini is a series of shorts starring all of the idols in 315pro, including ones not featured in the original anime! the only unit that is not there is c.first, as this series was made before they were introduced. the series also has three original songs from it, themed around the attribute types physical, intelli, and mental! all idols have their own type they fall under.

after watching the anime, i would recommend checking out miraheze wiki for magazines, or short comics, of the characters you like! the introduction magazines are a quick and easy way to learn more about individual idols, and there are magazines for sidemoba events as well. though, if you're curious about more, i would also recommend using project imas, as it is the most up to date resource for idolmaster content! there are very well written descriptions of all the idols in 315pro, as well as other branches of the idolmaster franchise, located there!

regarding ingame story content, the sidem community has a lot of dedicated and hardworking translators helping the three games that sidem has had become more accessible to english speakers! this is the big translation document! i would also recommend, if you have a twitter account, to check out the hashtag SideMTL. SideMTL is a tag used by translators, and is also a place for you to find shorter form content, such as text conversations, phone calls, or birthday episodes.

also, i'd recommend saisuta subs on youtube! saisuta subs is a channel dedicated to uploading translations from the latest game, saisuta! all of saisuta's content is fully voiced, so having something like this exist is a really great asset! thank you to all of the subbers, recorders, and of course, translators that make this all possible!

speaking of translations, if you're curious about the origin of the first male character in idolmaster, ryo akizuki of the sidem unit f-lags, he got his start in the ds game dearly stars! dearly stars is being translated by cait, and I highly recommend checking it out! ryo also has a manga version of the story, neue green, that you can check out on your favourite totally official manga reading websites!

and, of course, if you're interested in the amount of great music that sidem has, all of it is unregionlocked and up on streaming services like spotify! sometimes it takes a bit for newer songs to be added, as bamco likes to wait to increase cd sales, but they'll be added after a little bit! until then, you can usually find them floating around somewhere.

finally, I would like to recommend looking into lives! the seiyuu are a major part of the appeal of sidem. some are well known, some are not, but all are loved! they are all really talented voice actors and performers, so please give them a watch sometime! pictured above is only a fraction of the many seiyuu that we have! while I can't tell you where exactly to find the lives... a lot of them can be found on certain... websites...... they're floating around out there! if you would like to purchase tickets to a live, usually they are able to be streamed using the website stagecrowd! 8th live is coming up this year, so get ready!!!

we may be going through a rough patch right now, due to decisions by higher ups (sidem is a very successful franchise, but higher ups aren't treating it with respect, is a short explanation i can give), but sidem fans are full of love for their favourite idols, and they will be more than happy to share their love of these idols with anyone interested! i for one am always up for telling everyone about how much I love kuro, lol.

So...I took some time from my day off and played every songs in Growing Stars until the last minute...

And that was…that was really a LOT of fun!! I know people scoff at rhythm mobages having a similar Chunitm/Soundvoltex kind of layout (or more so what ppl call Guitar Hero format now haha) lately and while I will miss all the older games that have their own unique playstyles..I…kind of get why recent ones go for this specific "standard"? Long ramble short, I think this layout is just perfect for "easy to learn, hard to master" kind of methodology no matter if you're playing on a phone or a tablet, no matter if you're playing with thumbs or index fingers, it's flexible for everyone and requires not too much learning curve… It's almost addicting to discover new things in these chart patterns and retry them until to get the hang of their playstyle. And I think each game under this format/UI does have some sort of chart pattern and style that are unique to their own games and songs, that if…If I were to ignore the brand attached to it, I don't think any other games with similar formats like Bandori or Pjsekai…will ever fill that gap for me…now that this game is gone…haha…

…The entire time I played, I really, really wished that this game was the game that existed back in 2017 instead of LoS… (and I was one of those who defended this joke of a game to hell when it existed)

I don't want to go through my entire history with imas but. I first got into imas through the 2011 anime when it aired. I played Deresute two weeks after it launched. I played pretty much every imas mobile games on launch since that. From Mirishita, LoS, Shinymas, even Saisuta… But back then, I really…didn't have any friends to talk about Deresute or Mirishita despite actively playing them haha ;; I got some friends to play the game and met new acquaintances here and there but…I never really considered myself a part of its fandom despite how much I closely followed the franchise and liked all branches equally…

But then just…SideM anime happened and…that was really, the first time I felt like I had friends in the imas fandom haha… The days when all of us started to play SideMoba, scouring through in-game magazines and Pixiv logs/fics and watching all SideM lives while counting down for LoS to launch…was a moment I'll never, ever forget… Unfortunately, it didn't take too long for us to move on to other interests after the letdown LoS was…so, if only Saisuta was the game that existed back then, maybe things would've been different… (Tbh the only thing that stopped me from playing Saisuta as much as I wanted to was my burnout with mobage and lack of free time, had only this existed when the past me was overly into idol games haha…)

In fact, back in 2018, it was SideM that taught me the term called "hobbyani". And I…really can't emphasize how that was really, and I mean REALLY important to me. Haha. But that's another story I prob would tell on another day. It may be a bit of a common term among kodomo anime circle now but back in 2018, I just…didn't know anyone on the EN side that knows about this "genre" that described my biggest interest from all these years until now, and I knew that from a freaking idol game of all places :')

So…back on topic, Saisuta is not perfect, I've heard qualms about it here and there but the thing is? Most of the criticism I've heard was mostly room for improvement. Despite its flaws, I still can tell that the devs, PR and people involved put a lot of heart into Saisuta… Literally just…everything about this game feels like it's THE symbol of hope and a bright future for SideM, but unfortunately, one thing the devs can't ever fight…is when the higher-ups refused to give them a chance…

I'm aware that the SideM brand is not dead, but it…kinda hurts seeing all its sister games celebrating a game to represent their brand identity and for the case of imas, the games have always been THE medium in-between new concerts and songs, without it, there's almost feels like…nothing to do to call yourself a "producer" for your fav idols haha… Even if imas has gotten better at making their songs and concerts much more accessible, I'd be more likely to just stick to my comfort zone when browsing their catalog on Spotify etc when these games essentially "forced" me to play and "remember" songs that I wouldn't otherwise give a chance. That IS the biggest advantage of having a rhythm game for a music brand…

And I don't think a future game for SideM can ever regain that "trust" that was already shattered and betrayed, nor it will live it up to the quality and potential Saisuta provided because it IS the best form of SideM content we've gotten in years…

…Anyways, I've pretty much voiced all my disappointment with Saisuta's shutdown... I could say more, but most of them are things that are pretty much already said elsewhere...I merely wrote this because I also…have my own "story" and "reason" with this franchise that I needed to mention, haha… This is not the first time I faced a shutdown of a mobage I've played, but frankly, this might as well be the most devastating one I've faced…

Well then. Good night and sweet dreams, Saisuta. May someday you will 再度笑む again.

decided to watch the important saisuta announcement knowing full well what was to come. last night was the absolute worst i felt in a while. felt absolutely numb throughout the stream. i didn't want to believe leaks but the signs were right. the fact that i've been following the sidem series since 2015 and now there won't be any game in service after july 2023… i genuinely feel like bamco could care less about sidemP knowing this. i'm super sad cause i played both sidemoba/msute every now and then (admitting that it was a bit tedious) and saisuta pretty much daily (thanks entertaining expert songs) it hurts thinking that maybe closing down both mobage/msute would step up saisuta. totally wrong. going through this three times just really hurts. the fact that it was not given a proper ending for a third time. i wasn't worried at all abt eos seeing that saisuta ranked well in top jm games. it actually got terminated. it just does not make sense. i still want to know more about 315PRO. i lost a lot of trust to a shitty company with shameless money grubbing leaving the shop open. it's crazy that sidem trended for 2 days and i hope bannam noticed how many ppl they disappointed with their decision. reading a lot of fans and even the voice actors tweets about the termination absolutely breaks my heart. i felt happy seeing sidem being included in promotional im@s art and getting collabs left and right. the joy i felt seeing them included at moiw event performing recently. it's frustrating to know this happening right after it. i’ll still really look forward to more of the said cd releases and live performances. i love the im@s franchise but the way sidem branch was treated does not sit well with me. 315PRO deserves way better. i will always love sidem. even without a way to produce, i'm still gonna be a beitP at heart! 💙🍙🐸💐

Going to an amusement park was always exciting. Kotori never really went to these types of places often, but they were such a fun experience regardless of her age and whoever she was with. A child with her parents, a high-graded student prize trip with schoolmates, just going for the heck of it with her best friends --- It was always filled with precious memories and bunches of smiles.

Now wasn’t any different, except she was a plus one with Cafe Parade. They were initially going to keep the cafe open and have just shorter workdays with the staff they had remaining there, but when everyone else in the idol group expressed the want to go along with Kamiya and Saki, they decided to close down the cafe for a bit. And, with Kotori now having the sudden time off, it was very sweet of Kamiya to bring her along (with permission from their producer of course).

And so here they were, a day early so the could enjoy and survey the whole place, and with Kotori not really knowing what to do. Saki had dragged Makio towards taking pictures with a few of the mascots, and Asselin was proclaiming various extravagant things over the flower decorations set up, with Soichiro trying to drag him away from a rather large tulip. “Um, should we go get a snack for everyone?” Kotori questioned out loud, sticking a bit close to Kamiya, “O-Or should we find a quick ride to ride while everyone else has busied themselves?”

FUTURE REMEMBER SHOT A memorial book is planned to be released featuring all the activties SideM has gone through for 8 years. This memorial book will also feature the Remember Shot cards that have not been released to the public yet. ※ further details to be announced later

PARANORMAL ACADEMY SEQUEL The sequel to Paranormal Academy entitled as “Paranormal Incident” will be relayed as a live reading stage event in the future. Please wait for future updates on the event.

SideM STORY ARCHIVE An archive for the stories of SideM is planned to be released in the future. It will be difficult to keep the format exactly the same as the original mobage, but the team will be working hard to ensure a way for all producers (old and new) to be able to read the stories that have been released over the years.

We would like to express our utmost gratitude for everyone who has supported the game so far. We hope that you will still support SideM!

SIDEMOBA UPDATE

SideMoba will officially end service on the January 5th 2023. The series will still be continuing, now focusing on Growing Stars as well as the various non-game content it has to offer. Various campaigns will run until the end date.

Thank you for the memories and being the start of the SideM franchise. Let’s keep on moving, forward and beyond

To round up SideMoba’s time, as well as to thank all the producers for 8 years of SideM, a few campaigns will be released starting November 4th and will run until the last day of SideMoba

The campaigns are as follows;

315 ENCORE GACHA Login for as long as the campaign runs to be able to pull a gacha featuring every unit once a day until you’ve pulled in every unit’s up to 7 times.

315 PASSION POINTS EXCHANGE Log in for up to 7 days of the campaign to be able to obtain 315 Passion Points you can use to scout an SR of your choice in the 315 Encore Gacha.

315 PRESENT CAMPAIGN Log in to the game and claim the various items pictured above to be able to unlock as many stories and play the game as you’d like
