I truly wonder if white fans are even capable of understanding how hard it is just being in a fandom space when you're not white. How alienated you feel every other day. How often you're told "it's not that big a deal" or "it's just a fantasy game get over it" or "it doesn't matter" or "go save the rainforest instead of crying over a game" or etc. etc. etc. to the point where you yourself start to question if there's something wrong with you... that it's your fault for being hurt all the time. Because it's never just about one racist mod, or one piece of whitewashed art, or one offensive post... it's all of it. Together. All the time. It's so fucking exhausting and it's why POC quit fandom spaces a lot.

so we all know astarion was named after the minotaur of greek myth, who, despite widely known as the minotaur (“bull of minos”), was named astarion/asterion (“starry one”) by his mother at birth. asterion the minotaur was trapped in a labyrinth and cursed to devour virginal men and women thrown in there as sacrifices.
”The House of Asterion” is a 1947 short story by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges that retells the story of the minotaur from the minotaur’s point of view. it’s one of his best early short stories and it’s very short, only 3 pages long. you can read it here.
borges is in my top 3 favorite writers of all time, and “The House of Asterion” obviously deserves to be considered on its own merits, so i feel slightly irreverent connecting this text to a recent video game. but i reread this short story today and there was much to think about, there were many more seeds planted in my mind in terms of interpretations of the minotaur myth and how asterion the minotaur relates to the story of astarion the vampire. i think it will for you, too.
anyway. if you don’t click through and read it, please at least read how it ends, remembering, of course, that the speaker is asterion the minotaur:

so let me get this straight. one of the main bad guys in bg3 is a burly goth with his tits out, who is voiced by Jason Isaacs, and who offers you an alliance that sounds an awful lot like a marriage proposal if you don't immediately try to fight him, AND also implies the two of you were *very* close pre-amnesia and just generally gets a big smile on his face when other npcs talk about you if you play as a specific premade character...and you CAN'T fuck him???

we really need to be a lot more critical to larian and put pressure on them. wyll have been ignored 6 patches deep into the update, and he still lack the variety unlike the other core companions. no new greetings if you romance him, lack of independent choices, etc. don't use "but he lack content :(((" as an excuse to dismiss the disparity both in game and fandom. this will just enable the bias further.
