Shirley Walker talking through how she varies and layers Batman’s theme for the animated series fills me with all kinds of joy. From “dark and somber” to “heroic and uplifted” with a single note. Whether melancholic or loping, the pure melody or laced with harmonies, TAS wouldn’t be the best Batman without her.

A major factor that helped bring life to the characters in Space: Above and Beyond was the wonderful score from Shirley Walker. The writers often mention how the music would give them a better grasp on the characters in the show.

Wonderful Things That May Or May Not Be Wonderful Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. A film set in the world of one of the most iconic and well-regarded animated TV series of all time. What is essentially a feature-length episode of the cartoon with all of its trappings made even grander by the increased scale and budget. The art deco art-style, the immaculately gothic atmosphere, the dark and mature storylines, Shirley Walker’s absolutely epic compositions. It’s all here and paired with a gritty film noir detective story that sees us look into Batman’s origins, his lost love and a series of murders in the mob caused by a new, mysterious threat. If you haven’t seen it yet…well, I don’t blame you. It wasn’t the most popular on release but I implore you to see it now. For the action. For the drama. For the art. For the performances. For the #wonderful. P.S. Rest in peace, Kevin Conroy. Though many have tried and will try, there will never be another Caped Crusader quite like you. The definitive animated Batman voice.

Silo is so funny because, much in the same vein as Snowpiercer, you CANNOT tell me any of those characters are straight. Or neurotypical.

fun fact i got into batman in 2008 but Not because of the dark knight it was because my media teacher played this clip in class and it fully reset something in my brain (had never had any interest in comics or superheroes at all before) and i went home and immediately watched the full movie and was like oh shit i guess im a batman fan now but unfortunately. mask of the phantas.m is the best piece of batman media so it's all been downhill from there
