Sherlolly Appreciation Week 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Get excited Sherlollians because a new appreciation week is on its way! This will be our 10th year in a row of celebrating our favorite science nerds – I can’t believe we have been doing this for 10 years!!! My little nerd heart is so happy you are all still here celebrating with me!
This year we are focusing on your favorite Sherlolly moments, both canon and those headcanons or moments found in fanfics and fanart. Please feel free to use the prompts however you are inspired, meaning the canon prompts do not have to lead to creations that are still canon compliant, nor do you simply have to “answer” the question of the Headcanon prompt…let your creativity fly! I want to see all of the meta, GIF sets, photo edits or manips, fanart, and fanfiction pieces you can create!
Keep an eye out for the tag: ‘sherlollyweek2024’. I will post any updates or news about the appreciation week under that tag! That will also be the tag that you use when you post your response to the daily prompts. Can’t wait to see what you lovelies come up with!

Sherlolly Appreciation Week 2024, Day 3 Trope : Fake Dating Barely proof read this, so sorry for any mistakes lol, enjoy!
“No.”
“Yes.”
“Sherlock, I said no.”
“Molly, you agreed to this.”
She stared at the man sitting across from her, annoyance radiating through her body as she stared at him. She crossed her arms tightly over her chest. “I am not dancing with you.”
Clearing his throat, he stood up and straightened his jacket before walking around the table to extend his hand out to her. “Yes, my dear, you are.” He stared down at her, a mask of control. “Molly,” he dropped to a whisper, “this is the best chance for us to be close to the masterminds…it’s for the case.”
She huffed out a sigh through her nose and dramatically slapped her hand into his, rising to her feet.
“Fine. But only for the case.” She fixed a soft smile on her lips and allowed herself to be led to the hotel dance floor.
“Remember, you’re in love with me,” he whispered, letting his lips graze her ear. “We need people to believe that.”
She shook her head as she gave a disbelieving laugh, her fake smile selling the “love” façade. “You’re ridiculous.”
“How so?” He kept his voice low and face close to hers, but his eyes remained locked on their targets.
“I told you I was done with this fake relationship stuff for cases…yet here we are.” She knew her anger towards him was only partially justified – she should have backed out as soon as he said the word fiancé – but being angry at him was easier than admitting to herself why she kept saying yes to him.
“You’ve enjoyed helping me with previous cases," he said as he continued to gently move them around the dance area. “I am not sure why this case is any different.”
She shook her head before resting her temple on his shoulder, looking away from him. “You know why,” she muttered, feeling tired.
Sherlock’s swaying stopped for a moment before he started moving again. “I assure you, I do not.”
She pressed her eyes tightly together and took a deep breath. Centering herself, she lifted her head, this time a genuine smile, although sad, sat on her lips. He looked at her, slightly taken a back by the abrupt change in demeaner. “What did you say the masterminds were looking for? Happy couples?”
“Delirious with infatuation and out of touch with reality, specifically,” he responded.
“Well then, happy we shall be.”
...
“My goodness!” The woman slapped the table as she giggled. “You two are just the most delightful creatures! Do you think we’ve met any other couples as delightful, honey?” she asked as she turned to the man on her right.
“No, you are right my dear. These two are some of the best people we’ve yet to meet here.” The couple shared a look that was not missed by Sherlock or Molly. “I say, we would love to have you two join us tomorrow night for a special gathering we are having.” He slid a card across the table to Sherlock. “9pm.”
“We’ll be there!” Sherlock took the card and slipped it into his jacket pocket.
“Sounds lovely!” Molly nodded in agreement.
“Well, looks like we should be turning in.” The man gestured to the clock on the wall. “Honey?” He held his hand out as he stood and she took it.
“Oh, yes.” She smiled brightly at Sherlock and Molly. “I look forward to seeing you both there tomorrow.”
“Wouldn’t miss it!” Molly said, only letting the smile drop from her face after they were out of sight.
“Come on.” Sherlock stood and ushered Molly back to their master suite.
“I think that went well,” Molly said once they were back in the room as she started to take off her heels.
“What did you mean when you said, you know why?” Sherlock’s question caught her off guard and she struggled to not slip as she worked her heels off.
“Sherlock…” she trailed off, not sure what to say as he stared at her. Finally, she shrugged and sat on the end of the bed. “You know, I just had a long week and this case was kind of bad timing.”
“No.”
She gave him a questioning look.
“Last case…I kissed you while we were undercover.” He took a couple of steps closer to her.
“Yes,” she whispered.
“But I’d done that before.”
“Yes.” She shifted uncomfortably on the bed.
“And those didn’t bother you.” He moved so he was standing directly in front of her and she had to tilt her head up to look at him.
“Sherlock?” She was unsure where his line of questioning was going.
“This kiss was different because…” this time he trailed off and she could tell he was replaying that night in his mind.
They had been colleagues turned friends for a long time, but Sherlock didn’t often open up about his private life and on that case he had. She had then shared back and something had shifted between them. And while she had always enjoyed kissing Sherlock, even just for pretend, this kiss felt different. The next week she told him she could no longer be his undercover dating partner.
Dropping to his knees, he took her hands in his. “It was different because…I was different?”
She nodded silently. He opened his mouth to speak but she cut him off. “It wasn’t that you were actually different – you were still Sherlock. But you were Sherlock who let me in…which you so rarely do.”
His eyes flicked to her lips and he hesitated a moment, before leaning in and kissing her. It was soft and gentle but still made her head rush and when he pulled back, she smiled brightly at him. “I’ve always liked kissing you,” he admitted. “When you told me you couldn’t be my undercover dating partner anymore, I am ashamed to admit the disappointment I felt at the idea of no longer having an excuse to kiss you.”
He captured her lips again and kissed her soundly until both their hands were tangled in each other’s hair. Breaking apart, Sherlock slid into the spot on the bed next to her before kissing her again. And again…and again.
When they finally broke apart, Molly spoke, “Maybe we don’t have to pretend to be together anymore.”

Three Ways It Could Have Happened (and One Way It Did)
For Day 2 of Sherlolly Appreciation Week: Shared Look/Canon Divergent Idea. On AO3 here.
1.
He meets her gaze, his expression wary, hers hopeful, and opens his mouth to force the distance between them to remain. Opens his mouth to pretend he misunderstands her, to order coffee - black, two sugars - but then he stops. Thinks, rapidly as he always does, calculating, extrapolating, wondering at his own reasons for doing so. And then he opens his mouth again and says simply, Yes, sounds excellent, that small cafe by the north entrance after your shift? And her smile is dazzling, and he knows he's made the right choice.
2.
He meets her eyes across the room; she's wearing a dress he's never seen before, black with sparkly straps and a twee bow in her hair and he thinks with surprise, oh, she's lovely. In the background Gavin is ogling her and even John and his latest soon-to-be ex-girlfriend and Mrs Hudson are admiring her but none of them understand the profoundness of that moment. Of Molly bravely baring a form usually kept under wraps, a gift presented and all for - him? Surely not? He glances at the bag, at the carefully wrapped gift at the top and he thinks, Yes. For me.
And he walks over to her, automatically shutting off his mobile, and he takes her hand and he leans forward and kisses her cheek (everyone is staring, staring as he does so) and he murmurs, Merry Christmas Molly Hooper and ends his years of standoffish solitude with a single smile and a second, far less innocent kiss.
3.
He meets her eyes, his sparkling with appreciation of his own wit, hers disapproving, and his smile vanishes. Chastened, he turns back to his train-obsessed informant and eventually the entire case is unravelled to his satisfaction. But he can't stop thinking about that shared look, how she'd chastened him without speaking a single word, her disapproval so obvious that even an idiot (and he's not an idiot, no matter what his brother says) could see it.
It nags at him, that look, until finally he's driven to ask John, of all people, why he had reacted to it. He normally ignores such looks or remains blithely unaware of them, and John just shrugs and says, guess you've changed a bit since you got back, not such a bad thing, and those words strike him like a blow.
He goes to her flat and asks if the ring she's been given is meant to be permanent; he's seen how loosely she wears it, why not get it sized? And she shrugs and tries to look away but he sees the truth in those warm brown eyes, and he makes a decision. Reaching out, he takes her hand; she lets him, watching quietly as he slips the ring from her finger and places it on the table where she keeps her handbag and keys, saying nothing as he keeps hold of her with one hand and reaches for her mobile with the other. Call him, he tells-asks-demands of her. Tell him it's over. Please, Molly - And lets out a soft sigh of relief when she does.
1.
He meets her gaze, although she can't see him doing so. He opens his mouth and speaks. I-I love you, he says, hesitant and unsure. Realization widens his eyes. I love you, he says a second time, wondering and almost awed at the truth in his own words. And when she repeats those words, so soft and broken-sounding, he could weep at his own ignorance. Wilful ignorance of what has been right in front of him all the time. When his sister's games are over, he vows as he stares at the remains of a smashed coffin, chest heaving with anger-guilt-terror, he'll repeat those words a third time.
And Molly will never have to question whether or not he means them.

Sherlolly Appreciation Week- Day 2, Monday, March 25th- Canon Divergence
Hi! This isn’t a new fic, it’s actually four years old now. But it definitely popped in my head when I thought about canon divergence, since this fic features a very different outcome for Mary, which heavily involves Molly (and of course sherlolly!). Hope you enjoy it if you haven’t gotten to read it already!

It's How Things Are
It was awkward, God, so awkward.
It has always been a little, more than a little, awkward when it came to him.
It’s how things were with him.
A lot about her has changed since she first met Sherlock Holmes, except one… the most important one.
She still loved him.
“I love you…”
And she had waited literal YEARS, to hear those words from him.
But she didn’t think hearing them would hurt so much.
That’s a lie.
Deep, deep down she knew…
She knew he meant them. Knew he meant each word.
Just not the way she ever wanted.
It’s how things would never go.
Thus, she was not surprised when he came by.
He explained things. Fractured memories returning. The secret sister. He, John, Mycroft, and the Torments of Sherrinford.
Sherlock was full of earnestness and apologies, until she could stand it no longer.
“Don’t say any more.” She begged and walked him to the door.
“And I am sorry for your loss…”
And of course he noticed, her cat Toby was gone. And that was why she was crying even before he called asking for those three words.
“Um… Bye... ”
She closed the door and leaned her forehead on it with a soft sigh, surprised to find herself smiling- however bittersweet.
It’s how things will be.
“Bye…”

Pet Names
Sherlolly Appreciation Week 2024, Day 4: Pet Names
“Darling?” Sherlock’s voice called from the other room.
“No,” Molly’s reply came as she walked into the bedroom, “I don’t like that one.” Sitting down on the edge of the bed, she wrinkled her nose, “Makes me think of a grandma.”
He frowned at her and steepled his hands against his chin again. “Angel?” Her face scrunched in disgust. “No, then.” He tapped his chin. “I know you alr – ”
“Sweetheart is for children…not for the woman you sleep with.” She eyed him. “I’m not budging on that one.”
He gave her an exasperated look and she laughed. “What is so wrong with calling me Molly or Molls?” she raised her hands in question.
“Everyone calls you Molly,” he stated.
“Well, it…is…my name,” she said slowing, trying not to laugh. He frowned at her.
“Am I not allowed to want to call you something that only I get to call you?” he asked. “To let everyone know that you are my love?”
She smiled and stood up, walking over to him. “Why not that?” she asked as she slid into his lap. “My love.”
He wrapped his arms around her and tested the term of endearment out for himself. “My love…my love….my love,” he finished in a whisper. “I think that will do perfectly.”

Sherlolly Week 2024: Potential Dates
Sherlollians, March is right around the corner, which means our annual Sherlolly Appreciation Week is coming up! This year will be the 10th celebration week, which I cannot believe! With that being said, I know that this announcement is coming a little later than I would have liked to have gotten it out to you, so if you can take a moment and let me know which week you prefer, that would be lovely!
Please signal boost so we can get all the Sherlollians who are still hanging out to vote - I will leave the poll active for a week (today is Feb. 3rd).

Stop looking at me like that...
Sherlolly Appreciation Week 2024, Day 2 Canon Divergent
I wrote this a little while back, but these two and this situation are one of my favorite canon divergent moments
Sherlock paced back and forth in the living room of 221B. This had seemed like such a good idea a week ago but now that the time was here, he was sure that they were making a mistake.
Why on earth would she want me? What do I have to offer her?! I’m just going to ruin it and make her hate me in the end! I’ll never be go –
“Sherlock?” Molly’s soft voice stopped him in his tracks. “Are you okay?” Her brow furrowed in concern.
“Just…over thinking,” he admitted. Turning to look at her properly his worries completely slipped away. “You look beautiful.”
“Is the dress okay?” she asked as she looked down, her nose crinkled in the cute way he liked. “I know it’s a tad on the bright side…but I liked it.” She brushed her hands over the soft yellow material, smoothing it out.
“Its perfect.” He stepped over to her and wrapped one arm around her waist. “You could have worn your lab coat and I would have been happy.” He ran a finger over her eyebrow and down her cheek.
“You’re happy?” she whispered, a smile spreading across her own face.
“Mmhm,” he hummed as he brushed his nose against hers. “Very happy.” Pressing a kiss to her lips, he held her tightly, reminding himself that she was choosing this, choosing him. “I love you,” he said as he broke away from her lips.
“I love you too,” she breathed happily, looking up at him. Then his eyes held hers and for a moment Molly couldn’t breathe.
“Stop looking at me like that…my knees can’t take much more,” she giggled, looking away.
“Like what?” He gently hooked a finger under her chin and brought her eyes back up to his.
“Like that,” she sighed. “The way you look at me…” she shook her head, before looking back up, “Sometimes I have a hard time comprehending that it’s me you’re looking at.” He frowned at her as he gently rubbed her back. “What is it?”
His frown deepened for a moment before he spoke, “I often question why you would choose me.”
“Because you’re you,” she smiled as she pushed up on tiptoes to press a kiss to his cheek.
“And you, my love, are breathtaking.” Tightening his hold on her, he kissed her softly at first, deepening it as she clung to him too, only separating when both had run out of air.
“You still want to do this then?” She smiled as she adjusted his tie.
“Marry you? Of course.”

Naked in my bed
Sherlolly Appreciation Week 2024, Day 5: Interactions This is also a fill for part 6 of my Creative Writing Prompts - SOL: “I know I should care about the reason why you’re naked in my bed, but I will just enjoy it for a moment.”
Molly sighed as her call went straight to voicemail and disconnected without leaving a message. She had been at the medical conference for 2 days already and was regretting her decision to attend the last. Shoving her phone in her bag, she slipped her room key out of her back pocket to open her room. Despite missing home, she was looking forward to taking a long hot bath after having sat on two panels earlier that afternoon.
“Ahh!” Molly jumped, a hand pressed to her chest in surprise. “Sherlock!”
“Molly.” He gave her a playful smile from his spot on the bed under the sheets. “You look lovely today.”
She shook her head and dropped her things on the table. Toeing off her shoes she crawled on the bed, over the sheets, and wrapped her arms around Sherlock’s neck. “I know I should care about the reason why you’re naked in my bed, but I will just enjoy it for a moment,” she whispered as she buried her face in his neck.
He slid his arms around her, holding her tightly. “Did something happen during one of your panels?” he asked after several long moments of silence.
“No.” She shook her head as she looked up at him. “I just missed you.” Leaning forward she kissed him, hard. “As glad as I am that you’re here,” she said as she leaned back. “Why are you?”
“I missed my wife,” he said simply as he leaned in to pepper kisses down her neck. “We are still considered newlyweds and I had…newlywed ideas on my mind.”
“Oh, I bet you did.” Molly gave him a cheeky smile and slipped off his lap. Grabbing the bottom of her jumper she hauled it over her head. “But I head ideas of a bath this evening.” Sherlock’s smile faltered slightly. “But don’t worry, there’s plenty of room if you are looking to accompany me.”
As she finished talking, he jumped to his feet and scooped her up in his arms. “Then a bath it is!”

Day 1 Canon Complaint
Sherlolly Appreciation Week 2024, Day 1
I had absolutely not ideas for today's prompt besides something I have already written. This is an excerpt from my fic Yes, yes is.
“You’re a bit like my dad. He’s dead.” She closed her eyes. Embarrassed. “No, sorry.”
“Molly, please don’t feel the need to make conversation.” Sherlock kept his eyes on the microscope, trying hard to focus. Don’t do this to yourself – always comforting others before yourself. “It’s really not your area.”
“When he was…dying,” she stumbled over her words, “he was always cheerful; he was lovely – except when he thought no-one could see. I saw him once. He looked sad.”
You’re sad now. Stop it. “Molly,” he said sternly.
“You look sad…when you think he can’t see you.”
And let him see I’m scared? No. He flicked his eyes toward John before slowly turning his head to look at her, sitting up fully. Have you always seen me?
“Are you okay?” she asked directly. I don’t – “And don’t just say you are,” she pushed forward when she noticed he was going to interrupt again, “because I know what that means, looking sad when you think no one can see you.” Like how you look?
“You can see me.” He let the words fall out of his mouth, unsure what ramifications the conversation would have.
“I don’t count,” she replied without hesitation.
And for the first time in a long time, Sherlock found himself truly speechless. He stared at her, trying to read her face, blinking slowly several times. You’ve always counted to me. He debated doing what he had always wanted to do, leaning over and kissing her, showing her just how wrong she was but she continued.
“What I’m trying to say is that, if there’s anything I can do, anything you need, anything at all, you can have me.” Molly flinched at her own words and looked away. “No, I just mean…I mean if there’s anything you need…” She shook her head and he realized she had taken his silence to mean something different than what it was. “Its fine.” She turned away and he stopped himself from reaching out to her. Oh Molly, Molly! If you only knew how much I wanted…but no. I ruin things.
“What-what-what could I need from you?” he finally asked, not trusting himself to say more than that without compromising their relationship.
She looked back, a sad look on her face. “Nothing.” She shrugged. “I dunno.” She pursed her lips. “You could probably say thank you, actually.” She nodded, as if reassuring herself that what she was saying to him was okay. It’s what I should do because what I want to do…I shouldn’t.
“Thank you,” he said hesitantly, almost painfully. He frowned at himself; unable to look at her, he turned back to the microscope, wishing and willing himself to say more. I can’t. I won’t hurt her like that.
--
Outside of Kitty’s apartment he had lied when he told John that what he needed to do next he had to do alone. When he had figured it out, he knew if he told John that he would try to help, to try and work it out but the one person that he needed right then was not John Watson. So he lied and left John standing in the street alone with a fake file on Richard Brook.
He had barely been in the lab for three minutes when she walked through, switching the lights off and cutting off his attempt to convince himself that this was a bad idea.
“You’re wrong, you know.” His voice was deep and he heard her gasp. He couldn’t bring himself to look at her and say the words he wanted to say. “You do count. You’ve always counted, and I’ve always trusted you.” He turned his head to look at her. “But you were right…I’m not okay.”
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
He walked towards her slowly, still worried that he might do something impulsive with the weight of Moriarty’s plan in the back of his mind. “Molly, I think I’m going to die.”
“What do you need?” she asked earnestly.
“If I wasn’t everything that you think I am – everything that I think I am – would you still want to help me?” he asked, stopping before he reached her. I need her help, her professional help only. I can’t have more than that, he reminded himself as he looked at her.
“What do you need?” she asked again, softer. Her voice urged him forward and he couldn’t help but take another step closer.
“You,” was all he could manage.
She reached out, holding her hand to him. He grasped it tightly and when she frowned up at him trying to read his face he didn’t stop the hug that he knew was coming. She had let go of his hand and slid her arms around his waist, tucking her head underneath his chin. He suppressed a sob that wanted to tear through his body and closed his eyes tightly, wrapping his body around her. They stayed like that for several minutes before Molly let him go. Stepping back, she looked up at him and he nodded, having shut down his emotions , now focused on the task at hand.
For the next couple of hours he, Molly, and Mycroft worked hard assessing and reassessing their plan and their back up plan and the back’s back plans. Despite his and Mycroft’s differences, he was still his older brother, and he knew he could count on him in a time like this.
Molly on the other hand didn’t owe him anything. He had never been oblivious to her physical attraction to himself but for so long he had convinced himself that her continued advances, favors, and the Christmas present were simply due to a silly crush. But now, watching her plan, problem solve, and risk her reputation for him, lead him to a very different conclusion that he wasn’t sure he truly wanted to know the answer to. If I know, I might not go through with this.
“Okay, I think we’ve got everything.” Molly nodded at him reassuringly. “Now we just have to wait.” She stared at him expectantly.
Don’t ask her. You don’t need to know. Just accept that she has helped and move on.
“Molly?” He furrowed his brow as he talked, looking down at her shoes. “Why are you risking everything for me?”
“Why risk it?” she repeated his question, drawing his eyes up to meet hers. “Because it’s worth it…you’re worth it.” Not a silly little crush.
“You don’t think I’m a fraud?”
“Of course not.” She shook her head. Inhaling sharply, she looked like she wanted to say something more, but stopped herself and gave him a sad smile. “Do you need anything else from me?”
Everything.
“No.” He stood up and walked over to her. “Thank you, Molly. For all of this.”
“You needed my help.” She shrugged, looking away.
“I did,” he whispered, still staring at her intently. Let her walk away.
“I uhh…I guess I’ll see you later, then.” And without looking back at him, she hurried out of the lab.

Sherlolly Appreciation Week- Day 1, Sunday, March 24th- Canon Compliant Idea
Happy Sherlolly Week, all! I’ve got some one-shots planned for this week and I’m kicking it off with one today that also fills a prompt I’ve had saved on my phone forever. This is a song prompt from @artisticnerd221b for “That’s the Way I Loved You” by Taylor Swift. Apologies that it’s taken me an age to get to this! And let me know your AO3 name when you can, so I can gift the fic to you. 😉
