Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
I'm not worried about Imogen and Laudna's relationship whatsoever, and this clip just confirms my feelings:
It's the way Laura Bailey has this challenge accepted look when it comes to Imogen and Laudna's relationship.
She's ready to win! 😂
Laudna has a very big insecurity affecting her right now, and that's going to bleed into a relationship. It's cool that the players want to explore how that will affect their characters' relationship in a more realistic way. Instead of having the relationship wave away all their individual issues from affecting them together.
Like Marisha said, things might get a little tenuous as the characters figure out some root issues and eventually work through them together. I'm not worried about the end result.
TADC Theory...One of the Characters could be an NPC.
Even before episode 2 dropped people were theorizing that one of the main cast could be an NPC. With episode 2 having come out yesterday a very specific line said by Caine only fuels that theory....
"I know you guys love your NPCs but if I start losing track of who's a human and who's an NPC, who knows what could happen..."
I LOVE this idea for the drama. If the main goal is everyone escaping from the circus, there’s a lot of potential for a scene where everyone leaves but one of them physically can’t make it out because they aren’t a real person. (Very Wreck It Ralph like.)
Just based off what we know from two episodes I'm trying to decide who is most and least likely.
We know it probably isn't Pomni or Ragatha, they both glitched out in the pilot plus Pomni has outside game knowledge. She's been saying "collision" and "glitch" and "we're somewhere under the map", these are video game specific terms. And although NPCs can glitch as well (The Gloinks glitched in the pilot) Kinger remembers Ragathas arrival and how hard it was.
Jax can be ruled out in a similar way for the same reason as Pomni. He referenced Augustus Gloop, the child from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this episode. This is real world knowledge that would be a very specific reference for an NPC to know let alone make.
I can somewhat rule out Kinger just based on the fact that Queenie was a character who (presumably) abstracted. Based on naming conventions and design alone (weak defense but there's only two episodes out) they could have come to the digital circus together. With all the characters having such random designs it feels intentional for two characters look similar. If this is just a coincidence it would be cool for his erratic and paranoid personality to be a result of being an NPC. His spontaneity comes from the fact that he's in an area he isn't supposed to be in. Also he's been at he circus for so long and hasn't abstracted which is very very interesting.
My bets are on Zooble and Gangle. Although mainly because we don't know much about Zooble and the mask gimmick with Gangle is both something no other character has and feels like something from an actual game. Gangle is cheerful with the happy mask and more emotional and depressed with the tragedy mask while the other characters are more permitted to show emotion without something actively filtering them. Also my own bias thinks it would be cool for Gangle to snap, it'd be fun to watch the characters try to avoid getting grabbed by the ribbons while hiding around the circus.
HOWEVER we could look at what Caine said in a different way. Mainly the "who knows what could happen...". What if it was a warning about an actual event that happened? He actually couldn't tell the difference. What if him not being able to tell a human and an NPC apart led to the death of an actual character?
Gummigoo looked very distinct from all the other characters in the circus. He was more gelatinous, had an accent, and was very much from the candy world that Caine had created. It was easy to rule him out from the main group design-wise.
But Kinger and Queenie who look VERY similar...
It would be interesting if the real reason Queenie disappeared was because Caine mixed up the two because of similar designs and blasted the wrong one.
Probably more in tags but TL;DR someone in the main cast could be an NPC and Caine could have accidentally killed a human because he couldn't tell them apart from an NPC. RIP Gummigoo
just an idle weird thought given the proximity of Phineas's breakdown in Midst, Ashton's breakdown on Critical Role, and some stray thoughts I've had about Tula on D20, Suvi on WBN, and that female blorbos post that goes around from time to time; but I feel like that very specific identity crisis/explosive depression spiral re Phineas and Ashton is truly a thing that makes me go oh this character is actually everything is weirdly gendered. It's almost always a man who has it; Ashton is honestly the only example I can think of who isn't a man (though I think Suvi might be headed for this, which is one of the many reasons I love her).
Something I’ve noticed so far as I’m catching up on acofaf that’s really interesting and something I’ve always liked about Aabria’s GMing style, is the ever-growing amount of players driving the story not just during roleplay, but also mechanically, if that makes sense.
Like during the epistolary phase in episode two, and mentioned in the Adventuring Party for it, the players would write letters that would naturally meld into scenes that they would play out on their own with little to no GM intervention.
Another that I really really enjoy watching, is how as the series goes on, during “unimportant” rolls (thinking specifically of Rue’s perception check to see if they noticed all of the fuckery the Lords of the Wing did with chairs and tea and whatnot) Aabria doesn’t necessarily provide any outcome or description, and the player just takes it upon themself to figure out what an appropriate response would be to whatever roll they got (Rue not noticing and thus not being offended by the Lords’ attempted power moves, but also masterfully not falling prey to them.)
And then also, and I don’t know if this was talked about in their season(s) zero, but the stretching of time in initiative rounds in the Great Hart Hunt that lead to some absolutely incredible character scenes.
It’s been true from critical role’s EXU to Misfits and Magic and everything else Aabria’s GMed, she just knows when to step back and let the players take absolute control and I love it so much
Ok soooo I am doing a little Olivia Cooke filmography rewatch (bc she’s mother). And thoroughbreds, the most recent rewatch, is one the reasons why I was so excited to watch hotd. Her performance in it is amazing… and it gave me an idea 🫠
I’m thinking Aemond and oc/reader have been friends for awhile. They are both seen as outcast (Aemond bc of his eye and his overall quiet disposition and reader/oc gets criticized for being… off lol). Let’s say reader/oc’s dad sits on the small council. She’s being around the greens for a minute so she knows the inner dynamics of the family (plus the dynamics between team green and team black). She has seen how viserys treats all of them. One night she’s just like “why don’t we just speed up the inevitable and kill the bastard”.
Let me know if that’s something y’all would like bc I think it could be fun to write
sorry to ffxivlovepost always anyway Man the way the devs & game did so good in making an mc that is Basically a blank-slate for the players, and there's so many opportunities to make your oc However you like but. the game itself adds so much story and character to that blank-slate guy. amazing
ok let's talk about max chapman cos GOD i've been waiting for a character like her for literally forever lol...
she's such an interesting and complicated character that honestly feels so HUMAN!
her journey of discovering her sense of identity, both in terms of her queerness and her own independence, is so real and beautifully portrayed!! also, her stubbornness in the face of adversity as well as her stubbornness in the face of her own desires feels SO relatable tbh (she knows what she wants, and she'd gonna GET what she wants, but also she's terrified of what she wants, and what if what she think she wants isn't really what she really wants? etcetc)
and her fear of failure is so palpable, and it's very much a fear of rejection that mirrors itself in her relationship with her mother and uncle bertie... (she doesn't want to let her mother down, even though she knows who she is is inherently never going to be who toni wants her to be, and being confronted with bertie showed that rejection from the family and that terrifies her!)
another thing i really appreciated was how selfish she could be, albeit unintentionally. she takes clance for granted at times, she uses gary, she hurts bertie with her words condemning his identity, and even her comments to esther were harsh... but she makes amends, she apologises and grows! It's honestly one of the first times i'm seeing an adult female character in a piece of media be allowed to be so messy, but also just so GOOD!
like her heart is always so desperately in the right place! she gets the crab for clance, despite the humiliation, she lies to her mother for so long about her other job because she doesnt want to hurt her, she continues to meet with carson despite the fact she had already given up hope that she would ever get close to having her own team like the peaches, she knows when she's fucked up and she acknowledges and apologises for it!
took a bunch of comparison shots for ronahi and god she looks so good.
the biggest differences that im going back and forth on are with her eyes and lips. i LOVE the way her eyes look in the updated graphics, and last night when i was just staring at her without any comparisons i thought she looked great - but now im realizing her large pupils are gone which makes me a bit :( i honestly cant decide which eyes i prefer.
and then with her lips, theyre much more smoothed out which im not the biggest fan of? i like the way theyre more defined originally
but my god. the difference in lighting for the last two comparisons.... ESPECIALLY the last one....... im a huge fan of it
in the end, i just think my girl is the most beautiful bunny to ever exist and she is still super hot to me, and so i am overall very pleased with the changes
The kind of Sad i’m feeling over Laudna gone is so strange. So upsetting.
Like, i know she’s probably coming back, within 1 or 2 episodes. I know this isn’t the end of her story. Is just, the particular circumstances of her death are so heavy and bleak.
Laudna was (is) a deeply tragic character that is portrayed as “cool with what happened” in a very interesting way. Walking the fine line between being shaped by her trauma, but moving forward in spite of it. But people forget that her trauma is massive... like impossibly massive, and then, this happens
She’s killed as a message for someone else, as a dare, as a device to impact the main person(s)... again. It wasn’t strictly a sacrifice or directly her choice (she stayed so a part was her choice, but not all of it). She’s killed by a powerful woman that didn’t even knew her name, she’s just a sacrifice device to advance the story of important people... again
And even now that she has friends and people around her, for the first time in her life, the hope that she may get resurrected back intermediately... Is not enough
She’s not a priority, she seemed fine with being dead, so yeah, others get the chance first right? It's just logical
This thought of “She has gone through worse, just add this to the pile” is just... god, so bleak, and it makes me so sad for so many reasons. I’m actually struggling putting it into words.
Because someone has gone through the worst that the world has to offer, should people just understand how “strong” and “used to it” are, and make them the shield for pain? Why don't give them a break? give them respite, love, help. They’re not going to ask for it, for so many reasons, but if you can catch those cracks, those small glimpses of vulnerability, they deserve a check in, they deserve help.
