The snake looked away from the sky and spun around to see a Huxley. Shoot- which one was he-? Telling by how he fidgeted with his tie and apologized, they guessed it was Oned. Hopefully he didn’t notice too much of their ranting to the sky, right there..

“-Oh! Yup! Gosh, I can’t believe you, out of all the people, would know about something like that, but I guessss technology’s letting people know more and more sstuff..”

They shuddered upon remembering those cursed security cameras… maybe they’ll be able to do something about those, one day.“

But anywaysssss! Buying something ssoundss pretty good! Any chance you have ssome place in mind?”

Ted was kind of nervous for the snake’s reaction. A little too nervous to notice any extra conversation they had before he arrived. Kind of astonishing meeting a talking snake, that suspiciously sounded and spoke like that strange creature from his dream that one time. Huh. Weird. 

He brushed the thought aside though, because maybe it was a coincidence. It was their birthday anyway, so that was what he had to focus on even if he just met them or not.

And hearing their next words, Ted looked down to the ground meekly, “Oh. Yeah, I just... found out, I guess. I’m sorry if I wasn’t supposed to--! Sorry.” He mumbled.

Looking back up after they agreed, Ted smiled just a little. “Okay. I’m glad that’s alright with you. Ummm... I guess we can go to the mall? There’s plenty of stuff there to choose from! And if you ever wanted anything from Applesoft, I’m sure I could get it for free since, well, my father kind of owns the company...”

It wasn’t uncommon for Felix to cry when something upset him. When he was alone, where father and mother weren’t watching, and when he was with Teddy. But the main problem at the moment was that Teddy wasn’t here. And that one detail had Felix breaking down like a nervous wreck at the fact his more important twin wasn’t with him-- He rarely ever went anywhere without him. He didn’t want to be without him. But he was right now, and it felt awful.

Felix didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t find him. He couldn’t go around and look for him. He didn’t know where he was. He was useless without his brother. So in his indecision, his inability to deal with the sudden change all he could do was cry pathetically as he stayed put hoping-- Maybe Teddy would come find him instead.

“Hey, I’m walking here--” Monty caught himself. Technically that was wrong. He couldn’t exactly walk anymore, but that was just a simple slip of the tongue. 

The child frowned, “Or, well, rolling... Doesn’t matter. Outta my way, pal.” He spoke, impatiently sitting atop his wheelchair. At least he had enough courtesy to not run over the snake in his chair, but he still wasn’t very pleased about this.

A snake? Was it a monster? Frisk wasn’t sure. They had never actually seen a snake monster during all their time in the Underground so far, but they didn’t doubt that one probably existed. They never had a chance to really explore New Home, after all, so maybe there could have been snake monsters there.

If this really was a monster, though... Their eyes narrowed. They gripped their knife tighter. Kill it. After all, wasn’t death better than suffering in an empty, dust-filled timeline? Frisk would be doing the snake a favour by ending their life now. So they stepped forward and swung at Sephnit.

Hearing the rustling from outside, Kris had initially just assumed it was a forest animal that had gotten into town again, so they got a little surprised to hear Sephnit’s shaky voice from out the window. They calmed down soon enough, as they looked up from what they were doing and listened to him.

Wow. They sounded like they needed a doctor. A super big gulp filled with five hour energy, huh? They couldn’t even feel their heart anymore? In all honesty, Kris thought that sounded awesome. “Nice.” They commented. “Gonna do that now.” Then they promptly got to their feet and jumped out the window.

an old manor house during a storm (for the creepy location starter meme! I'll be using Sephnit)

For a brief moment, the dark, musty manor was illuminated by a flash of lightning, one that was immediately followed by a booming crack of thunder. The aged windows and decrepit walls rattled and groaned in protest, and for a moment, River was certain that the house would collapse.

"Well, wouldn't that be a way t' go?" they murmured, taking their soaked hat off their head and wringing it out over the kitchen sink. "Squished by an old house...sounds fun."

It didn't really sound all that fun. River was just trying to be optimistic about things, like always. There wasn't much point in being a downer all the time, was there? They certainly didn't think so. Life was a lot more enjoyable when you tried to look at the bright side of things.

They danced away from the sink, humming a tune to themselves. River looked human enough; they had the body of a human, and they definitely dressed like a human would, but certain physical characteristics said that they were anything but human. It wasn't that hard to notice the dark sclera and orange, yellow-rimmed irises of their eyes, or the jagged, razor-sharp teeth in their mouth. They definitely didn't bother to hide their clawed fingertips.

The creature shook their hat out and placed it atop their head, meandering over to a window with a spider's web of cracks in it, and leaned against the sill, staring out into the night. The heavy rain, combined with the cracked glass, made it almost impossible to see anything, but that was fine. No sensible person would want to step foot into an old, abandoned mansion, after all, so River didn't have to worry too much about intruders. Hopefully.

Instantly, they stiffened and looked at the child that just hugged them. This-….. well- this was…

new.

The snake didn’t know whether to feel surprised from the gesture or relieved that they were given a break from the unrelenting cold. Atleast, unrelenting from how they perceived it. Gosh, if this was only fall… they didn’t want to be left out in Winter…. They shivered at the thought of it.

“…… a-actually-……… yea. I-I.. I think sso-”

Ted didn’t really know what the snake was talking about, with their stammer getting in the way of coherence and the fact that the child had already moved to hug them almost immediately. He didn’t know just how much this was actually helping his friend. After all, they were a big snake and he was just a small kid. But he pressed his cheek against their scales, trying to create even more warmth by nuzzling against them.

He couldn’t help the smile on his face, pride washing over him as soon as they told him that this was helping. He was helping. He was doing good. Ted grinned, nearly bouncing in place, “Yay! Good! I’m glad you feel better.” And he kept hugging them, continuing to press against them. Why stop when it was helping them, right?

The boy in blue seemed to have a nearly identical reaction as his brother upon seeing Sephnit. Almost the same expression. Almost the same sort of frightened, defensive stance. But it was probably clear by his words and tone of voice, not to mention the lack of recognition in his eyes that this was not Ted whom they were speaking to.
