So does Wales voting to ditch the Prince of Wales title automatically mean William ain't Prince of Wales anymore, or is there other BS they have to go through first to make England accept it?
Oh, god no, Wales has done no such thing. One of the councils of Wales, Gwynedd, has internally voted on it, basically to gauge opinion and also to make it official where they stand.
Okay, so, super quick and massively oversimplified political explanation: Wales is split into 22 counties, each of which has a council that does its day to day local governing, like when to put the recycling out and picking what colour to make the bins (recycling is a Big Deal in Wales and we are third in the world for doing it so this is a Very Important part of the job and we're Very Proud.) These councils are separate from electoral constituencies, though. Those are almost the same as the ones used for UK general elections, where we would vote for MPs to represent us in Westminster. However, there are more for Welsh elections, and in those we vote for MSs - Members of the Senedd.
The Senedd is the Welsh Parliament. That's where the laws are made in our devolved areas, aka the stuff Westminster is not allowed to decide for us, like education and cheese and recycling. That, if anywhere, is the place where we'd need politicians to demand an end to the Prince of Wales title if they were going to have a chance, because that's where the First Minister is, and he's like... the leader of Wales. Biggest Dog. The one who told the BBC right to their faces that Wales would base its pandemic response on science rather than creating a smokescreen to cover up our personal birthday party scandals. Mark Drakeford, an underwhelming but competent politician who is reportedly very good about packing his shopping away using the packing shelf in Aldi so he doesn't hold people up; which in Welsh people's books makes him Tidy.
Also, as councils go - as regions of Wales go - Gwynedd is the Most Welsh. The Welshest bit. Wales cubed. Uberwales. The land that England forgot. Come to Cymru. I Welsh, you Welsh, he/she/it Welsh. Very Welsh. Much Welsh. So Wales.
This did not require a vote, is what I'm saying.
So, what's actually happened here is that a local government of a single easily won council have agreed that William shouldn't be Prince of Wales in their opinion, and that's their official position. In terms of meaningful impact it's roughly equivalent to a custard pie dropped off a four foot ladder, except the pie was dragon shaped and sang 'O Gymru' as it fell.
HOWEVER.
It IS notable for being an official governmental body that has had the balls to OFFICIALLY tell the monarchy to do one, just as everyone is being very monarchial and shrieking 'Traitor!' at anyone not tearing their hair and beating their breast at the Queen's demise. And as long as it is an official, voted-on position, it opens up some possibilities both for other councils around the country and for the Senedd. If other councils start doing the same thing... it applies pressure. It's all about awareness. It helps grease the wheels of the actual petitions on the subject that are currently gathering signatures.
It helps establish a mandate, basically.
I suspect the next to vote will be either Anglesey, which copies Gwynedd a lot, or Monmouthshire, which will deliberately vote the other way, because their councillors are English. Alternatively nothing at all will happen. But we'll see!

ATTENTION CYMRU
TheWelsh Government is decimating the funding for Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales, the National Library, and the Royal Commission (and Cadw). These organisations are an important part of safeguarding the cultural heritage of Wales, and these cuts will put those efforts at risk for the future.
Please consider signing this Senedd petition requesting that funding be increased, not decreased, and sharing it on social media. If you were able to write to your Senedd representatives and/or MP, that would be even better.
I hope I haven’t come by this news too late.

A FOAF from Wales Cymru shared this. They have enough signatures, so anything else is gravy. And they have the ability to note that you are from outside Cymru so, at least, the Senedd Cymru expects foreign signatures.

Campaigners angry after wind farm moratorium rejected without discussion #WLS
Campaigners who want a temporary halt on the granting of permission for onshore wind farms in Wales say they are furious after Senedd Members decided not to discuss their petition because Climate Change Minister Julie James had written a letter saying she didn’t agree with it. The petition said that to “prevent wide scale and needless damage to the Welsh countryside”, there should be a moratorium on all onshore wind and ground-based solar developments above 10MW until the potential for . . . https://www.wind-watch.org/news/2023/12/12/campaigners-angry-after-wind-farm-moratorium-rejected-without-discussion/

Future of dog racing in Wales in balance after Senedd debate
Gwent is home to Wales’ only dog-racing venue, the Valley Greyhound Stadium, and in recent months has been at the centre of a heated debate over the sport’s future. More than 35,000 people, backed by a coalition of animal welfare charities, signed a previous petition to the Welsh Parliament, calling on ministers to “ban greyhound racing in Wales” amid […]

Hey guys,
A zoo and a couple of aquariums in Wales are struggling with lockdown. They're not receiving enough funding and the animals may have to be euthanized if they don't get the money they need.
There's a petition to ask the Senedd to reconsider. We don't get much funding from the english parliament, so unfortunately the Senedd has to budget pretty bad. If enough people sign the petition, it will pressure both the Senedd and parliament to help.
The zoos and aquariums are very important, their conservation efforts help the local wildlife as well as provide education. A sea zoo on Anglesey helps Bangor uni students with their research.
Please sign the petition if you can, we really need this. Please reblog as well; if we can get enough signatures, we might be able to save them.

Alright I haven’t posted on here in a while but I’ve been thinking about things and I feel the need to say something about these things.
First things first, I want to make one thing clear: I am white. I benefit from the oppression of people of colour and my opinion on racism is irrelevant. I must use my white privilege to elevate the voices of people of colour, and not speak over them.
I was recently quoted in an article about the rise of support for Welsh independence;
Tumblr media
https://www.voice.wales/surge-for-welsh-independence-brings-hope-for-the-future-challenges-ahead
By speaking to this journalist, I have made myself a voice for the Welsh Independence movement. I’m also one of the few people on tumblr who speak out in favour of it. I’m not saying I’m important to the movement in any way, but my words and actions still matter. I stand by what I said in the article and I will continue to stand up for Wales, but I also need to start calling out bullshit in this movement.
People of colour have had a hard time feeling welcome in the Welsh independence movement, and this is something we need to change.
First and foremost, we need to acknowledge the kind of racism our movement can become a Trojan horse to. We are nationalists. I understand wanting to hide from the term, because there are rightfully held negative connotations with it, but we are. While we may be civic nationalists, people who believe that immigrants are just as important to Wales as the people who were born here, a nationalist movement can still attract ethnic nationalists; the people who want an ethnostate. We need to start weeding out these people and denouncing them. A racist Wales where only white people are welcome is not a Wales worth fighting for.
Second of all, we need to stop acting like Welsh people are ethnic minorities. We’re not. We’re white. We benefit from white privilege. True, we can be victims of xenophobia, but it’s not the same thing as racism. Far from it. The Welsh language and culture has been suppressed, I’m not here to argue otherwise, but nothing we have gone through is on the same level as the things people of colour go through.
Thirdly, we need to stop acting like we didn’t benefit from the British empire. Yes, England colonised us, but we went on to help them colonise the rest of the world. Wales has a complicated relationship with colonialism, and we need to start acknowledging times when we were the aggressors, not just the times we were victims.
Also, we need to acknowledge that people in Wales voted for Brexit. I’m guilty of pinning the Welsh vote on England, but if we’re claiming to be anti-Westminster and not anti-England, we need to stop pinning our own racism on England. Welsh people voted leave, they probably would again. Instead of sticking our head in the sand and ignoring it, we need to change the mind of Brexit supporters in Wales.
Finally, we need to stop shutting down people of colour. Recently, there was a petition with the Senedd for the history of communities of colour to be taught in Welsh schools.
https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/200034
This was met with black lash because “wHaT aBoUt WeLsH hIsToRy”. There are two things to be said about this:
1. While it’s true that Welsh history should be taught in Welsh schools, the fact that we’re bringing this up during a global movement to dismantle white supremacy, in a response to a petition that is meant to help do exactly that, is disgusting. There’s a time and a place to discuss Wales’ issues, this is not the time. Also, the appropriative term “Welsh history matters” is fucking disgusting. Stop using it.
2. People of colour are part of Wales, studying their history should be a part of studying Welsh history.
It is our responsibility to hold ourselves accountable, especially when it comes to politics. As I said, I have no authority when it comes to racism, so if I did or said anything wrong here, please call me out. But I just couldn’t see this shit going on in my own movement and ignore it.

Senedd could consider Welsh dragon penis petition
Senedd could consider Welsh dragon penis petition
PETITIONS are a regular part of our democracy but a new campaign before the Senedd has to be one of the most bizarre in the history of the Welsh parliament. A petition has appeared on the Senedd’s website demanding that all depictions of the Welsh dragon have a penis. The petition so far has 21 signatures, just 9,979 short of going before a sitting of the Welsh parliament for debate. Another…
