My friend who's in another city showed me these lovely local minerals. Some calcite, chalcopyrite, selenite, gypsum, dolomite, and anhydrite. ( ◜‿◝ )♡
This was also very interesting. Any thoughts or knowledges to share? Would appreciate it (from a first year geology student ;))
Clastic sedimentary rocks are rocks that are formed from fragments of pre-existing rocks, minerals, or organic remains that have been transported by wind, water, or ice, deposited in layers, and then cemented together. These fragments, called clasts, Read more here:
Is ceramic technically a sedimentary rock? Because clay is just sand that has been ground down to microscopic size. All it is is sediment that has been cemented together quickly rather than over a geologic timescale. On that note, is cement a sedimentary rock?
guys yknow how not many animals fossilize so we don’t know a lot about animals that lived in incompatible places (mountains, rainforests, basically any place where there isn’t sediment ready to be plopped onto that dead thing)? maybe. for the future. maybe we should just put some dead things in a lot of mud and MAKE the sedimentary rock 🤷♂️ idk man maybe we GOTTA play god sometimes. Mysterious Rocks: Some rocks exhibit unusual properties or phenomena. For example, lodestone is a naturally occurring magnet, while fulgurites are rocks formed from the fusion of sand by lightning strikes. Read more here:
I need the rock geeks of Tumblr to help me out on this, we found this broken geode in a pile of bricks we got from our neighbors last fall along with 3 much larger geodes that aren't cracked open yet. I can't figure out what type of gemstone it is, I've started cleaning the dirt off of it the best I can, but the black spots seem to be some kind of vegetation that I can't get off. It's got an orange color to the crystals, and a reddish orange kind of burnt seana color in the rings close to the center, along with white rings too, any ideas what it might be?
My favorite parts of the Morrison Formation in Morrison, Colorado. These tracks (top right) were first discovered during the Bone Wars of 1877, which is quite possible the most metal name for some nerd shit ever imagined.
