"The name's Y/N, from Teyvat-", You started solemnly as you drew your sword out, "And I challenge you to a duel, Mr Zhongli, sir!"
You finished your statement with a dramatic sword movement pointing directly at him with the tip of your weapon all while your vision shines brightly.
Zhongli, who was peacefully sipping on his tea before you interrupted him, quirked an eyebrow at you as he let the cup rest on the table. Then, he proceeded to squint his eyes at you before tilting his head slightly.
"A duel I heard? And what could your reason be, mr Y/N?" This was definetly something new. Maybe you were seeking for praise after defeating a God, maybe you just wanted to gain some mora or fame, maybe you yearned to dethro-
"I'm here to win your hand in marriage, sir".
Zhongli's golden eyes got wider and his hand clenched on the cup handle. His imposing aura dissapeared the moment he heard your words. He remained silent for a few seconds while he analyzed your serious expression, every second more convinced /and astonished/ that those were your honest intentions.
"...I beg your pardon?"
He was sure you were a complete moron but oh, how interested he was in your intentions.
The combat was arranged for the day after on a clear field where you were positioned on opposite sides at the ends of it. Zhongli ordered every one of his personal guards to leave and chose one of his prettiest spears. He also gathered his hair on a side, low ponytail.
You, on the other hand, were already holding your best sword in a firm grasp as you looked his way with a serious frown that indicated that you were ready.
"Is it everything to your liking?"
"It is, Mr. Zhongli, sir. Thank you for arranging this battle, Mr. Zhongli, sir."
A pleased, cold shiver ran up his spine at the way you referred to him nonstop.
He had to admit he felt a strong curiosity towards you, the way you acted being something truly uncommon. In fact, Zhongli had started to investigate about you after your exotic proposition, your favourite places to visit, your hobbies, your friends and your fighting abilities. He spent the entire previous day focused on spying you on, he even told his personal bodyguards to peer on you on your walks around the city.
"Shall we start, then?"
"It'll be my pleasure, sir"
And then, with your consent, the battle got initiated. He started by summoning a dark, tall pillar that covered him with a shiny shield.
On the other hand, you began the fight with a fast sword thrust that he quickly repelled with a gracile movement of his spear. The clinking sound of your weapons meeting filled the air around. A small smirk started spreading on the archon's lips when he saw himself being face to face against you, your noses being just mere inches away from touching.
You could feel his hot breaths and he could see through your focused eyes.
"Why is it to marry me your desire, young man?" He said, an aloud spoken thought, more to him than you. His brow furrowed along his words, slightly bothered in case you could mention your deal was a mere joke. He could kill you right then and there if you happened to break your contract with him.
"How could it not be, sir?" You breathed out, exhausted by having to constantly block his quick attacks and now also having to chat with him. "I had fallen into you since the moment I saw you. You are elegant, handsome and gentle, but also a fierce warrior and the eldest archon". You looked away as you began to talk faster and faster and he had trouble understanding some words of what you said. However, he was able to understand very clearly the compliments you gave him and you noticed it by the redness that crept his cheeks.
He was about to say something, but you inhaled deeply and continued, interrupting his thoughts.
"I'm nothing more than a mere Liyue citizen, I know you would never look at me under normal circumstances. That's why I have challenged you, to prove that I'm a strong warrior, too. That I'm worthy, sir".
Your will was as firm as an ancient rock, and he liked /loved/ that. You resumed the battle and it continued for a few more minutes. Your time was mostly spent in dodging his spear attacks, the sharp piece at the end cutting your skin here and there more than once. But, although he was hurting you, you just knew that he was going easy on you and that's not what you wanted. You were growing angrier and angrier at his "soft" attitude with you so, when his spear grazed your neck again, you grabbed it firmly before the archon's astonished expression.
"Excuse my insolence, please, but I do believe that you are not taking myself seriously, sir. I suggest starting again."
You released his spear and Zhongli firmly hit the ground with it.
"I have seen you're not strong enough to fight a God. If I had not gone easy on you, you wouldn't have endured this battle for more than five minutes, boy. You should be grateful I haven't had killed you just yet."
Your breath hitched at his words, "Why are you saving me, then? Why when you have already saw that I'm not worthy?", he was about to answer when you interrupted him again, "Why haven't you killed me already?"
Your eyes pierced his golden ones inquiring answers and as you were about to ask again it was now him who interrupted you with a loud "Silent" that made the rocks beneath your feet shiver.
"If I recall correctly..." He cleared his throat as he made his golden spear vanish before towering over you with firm eyes "It was not stipulated in our contract that your defeat implies, by any mean, your execution"
"Then why haven't you had stopped the battle already? I mean, why are we even fighting now for?"
Zhongli gulped hard. He didn't have any excuse left and your questions were turning more and more aggressive.
-I...- He waited for a moment, thoughtfully thinking his next choice of words -I may have grown a bit too fond of you...
