hmm. i feel like what c//a stans fail to take into consideration is that.. shakespearean tragedies were never supposed to be romantic. they were supposed to be tragedies.
i just know for a fact that op here was referring to the infamous romeo and juliet when they talked about “shakespearean tragedies”, because that's the most notable example of a forbidden romance. but the point of romeo and juliet wasn't the romance, it was the dramatization of an adolescent relationship due to family feud. romeo and juliet were never truly “in love”, they were children who were infatuated with each other, as often happens with children.
not to mention, the conflict in spop was so forced, it was more frustrating than tragic. especially at the end of failsafe. instead of having catra work on her abandonment issues and try to help adora in whatever way she could, the show decided to have her project her issues onto the person she allegedly loved and abandon adora when she was practically on her deathbed. this isn't a tragedy, it's yet another example of catra being self-centered and toxic.

Scarlett já treinou ou fez alguma missão ao lado da Quake?
Tumblr media

"The next thing I know..."
My main headcanon is that Adora and Catra both have many scars. I left the Failsafe, a few from Catra and Prime, and the red ones are from Weaver. 👀
Also experimenting with my style! 👄

Hordak's Arms and Cybernetics
Thanks to something completely unrelated to Spop, I think I may have figured out how Hordak's arms work. And, I've got an idea for fanart. I always thought that they must have some kind of internal cybernetics to work because, organically, they shouldn't be able to move being just skin over bone without critical muscles and tendons. I figured that Horde-clone arms must be fundamentally different from our own in that they had some kind of cybernetics alongside the bone that worked in a way to compensate for or shore up the muscle and thus a rotting out of muscle that Hordak had didn't leave him completely helpless (although in a bad way). Cue a reboot of another show I liked back in the day coming up and showing me just how this might work! Trigun: Stampede is a re-work of the anime Trigun from 1998 and the manga from the late '90s - '10s. It was my very favorite thing from 2001, when I'd discovered it until the early '10s and Vash the Stampede is my all time favorite blorbo (even though my brain flitted off to other fandoms - Vash is the character I consistently list as "Favorite Character of All Time.") I couldn't get a JPEG to post, but the article as a web-image screenshot of the anime with a really nice shot of Vash's prosthetic. Vash always had a prosthetic left arm (well, not when he was a kid, but in the story of Trigun, all versions). In the original anime and manga, it's one of his three important guns (hence the series title). Despite this, he is actually a pacifist and I am glad that the new series has kept that critical part of his character. The arm/gun had a very different look in the manga and first anime series. The reboot redesigned it and instead of having it hidden and a revealed mystery later, just had it out loud and proud - and even made a joke about it when Meryl meets Vash. "Ooh, need a hand?" (Pops off). It is noted right away as Lost Technology (an important aspect of the Trigun story, like First Ones' tech, but slightly better remembered). Anyway, the redesigned arm - for people who take a look at the first-episode review article with pics... Look at the thing! It's a bone-arm! Well, it's metal / shiny crystalline stuff because Studio Orange wants to show off their animation-chops, but there it is, big ol' gap with a fake radius and ulna attached to the hand-unit with something of a pivot-joint, no artificial muscle or hydraulics need. And, yeah, watching my ULTIMATE BLORBO back in action in a new form for the first three episodes of the new anime released so far, I saw that arm and thought of reboot Hordak from my more recent fandom. It's like a eureka-moment, like "Ooooh! That's how arms that are Like That can work!" And it tempts me to do a fanart wherein Hordak has been given new fully-prosthetic arms by Entrapta... but they still have gaps in them, as a facsimile of his old arms (but they are indestructible First Ones tech crystal so there is no tactical advantage of anyone wedging anything in the gap) and they look like the new-version Vash-arm. If I do that, it will have to wait until I feel like doing fanart again. I'm too depressed to do much lately (for reasons spoken of earlier on this blog).

im gonna be honest. i love hero x villain ships, and i love angsty enemies to lovers. but i hate catradora
why?
because of that dumb fucking redemption. if it was just a funny lil "what if the hero and villain had a thing for each other" ship i would've loved it.
but trying to redeem an abuser, blame the victim and play the relationship off as healthy? fuck no, catra is to be held accountable for all of her actions and adora deserves better than her. catra is a horrible person and the show should treat her as such, instead of an "uwu gay disaster baby".
enemies to lovers shouldn't be a victim being emotionally scarred from an abuser, it should be enemies who are equal to each other. i would much rather ship catradora if catra hated everyone else just as much as she hates adora
if you ship catradora, fine. good for you, honestly. but don't hit me with the "its healthy" bs, or the "you don't know what enemies to lovers means". i do know what it means, i just don't like the abuser x victim sort

I NEVER POSTED THESE HELP (they're from last year eheh,,,,,,,,,,)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two digital drawings of Adora.
The first one is a waist shot drawing of Adora smiling. Her hair is tied up and she has a fringe and small hair noodle (?) On the left of her face. She is wearing a She Ra esque red sleeveless jacket with a gold belt and shoulders, and the crown from her future vision. She has two scars on the bottom left side of her face, and an eyebrow scar on the same side. Her right hand is on her waist. She still has her white undershirt. The background is a light, muted pinkish grey.
The second one is a bust shot drawing of her, minus the jacket. She is facing to the right. She has a small scar on her eyebrow, and a plaster on her nose. She has an undercut and a small hair noodle. She has a neutral-ish expression. The background is light grey. /End ID]

i'm losing my mind how are there STILL ACTIVE CATRA HATE BLOGS it's been FOUR YEARS how are you still this mad about a female abuse victim!!!!!! how do you STILL not get it!!!!!!!!!!
I have been in enough fandoms to understand that some of the people who stick around the longest are those who act the most scarred after watching the media. It's like stockholme syndrome. Or it's like hating the thing is what gives them drive in the world.
I have also been on the other side of this. I remained a Homestuck blog for a whole four years after the ending made me depressed about Terezi Pyrope, even lasting an additional year and a half after the dogshit epilogues released, through to the demise of Hiveswap and Homestuck^2, before I realised enough was enough and let Adventure Time give me sanctuary again.
But Homestuck had its Gamzee fans who hated the comic and fandom, Adventure Time had its Lemongrab fans who hated the show and fandom, and it seems She-ra has its fair share of antis.
The She-ra antis consist of the following groups, from my observation:
Former fans who got obsessed with some other show and have to bash She-ra because it ain't cool anymore. Usually Owl House fans but can be from anywhere. Their hate is universally connected to propping something else up, and is never done in isolation.
Hordak fans who hate Catra and maybe every other character and crew member and the show. There are a lot of the reverse, Catra fans who hate Hordak, which is part of why this group is so persistent, as a "counter" to this Hordak hate. However, the Catra fans who are Hordak antis MOSTLY do not hate the show (they are just... out of touch with it and generally have bad takes). I've seen one or two extreme cases of Catra apologists accusing Adora, Scorpia, and even Entrapta of abuse, but they were completely alone in their feelings. The Hordak fans who hate Catra tend to also hate Glimmer, Mermista, Adora, Bow, and say that the show is ableist or whatever, but they do not actually harbor much love for Entrapta. Her victimisation is an excuse for their behaviour and they have no understanding of her chaotic character. Do not interact.
Glimmadora fans (the ones who purely seem to exist to make 'Spop Is Abusive' posts). Why the fuck Glimmadora fans hate the show so much, I do not understand. But these are probably the most In-Your-Face of these three groups. While the Hordak fans mentioned above have a lot of similarity to Homestuck Gamzee fans or Adventure Time Lemongrab fans in the weird way they'll hate on the show for doing their blorbo wrong, Glimmadora fans don't have that evidence because they don't really care about Glimmer or Adora. They have absolutely nothing to say about the show, other than that it is Bad. My theory on these Glimmadora fans is that they really liked the Glimmer and Adora ship on a superficial level, and then the show decided to have its Deeper Themes and give Catra and Adora a messy, complicated relationship. There was a lot happening after season 3 where people went "CATRADORA IS REALLY ABUSIVE AND CATRA IS HORRIBLE AND YOU SHOULDNT SHIP HER WITH ANYONE". This period was SO fucking harmful to the fandom that it never recovered, so much work was lost and deleted from AO3. People would say "Glimmadora is a much better ship anyway". But then when season 4 rolled around and, uhh, Glimmer was acting like a little shit all season (for good reason but she really fucked things up with Adora), and Glimmadora crumbled into ash? Well the Glimmadora truthists felt like the show was working against them and that Season 5 was a grand conspiracy to make the Abusive ship Catradora canon!!! The funniest part of this is I sympathise a lot with these feelings. I used to be a Glimmadora truther myself when I watched the show in fall 2021. I was like, "wow, look how nice this ship is. And they go with catradora in the end?? Fucking HOW???". But then seasons 4 and 5 happened and.... yeah, I was disappointed with how Glimmer and Adora's friendship ended up, but I was ENAMORED by the messiness of Catra's character and how raw her and Adora felt about each other even in spite of all the bullshit. I never made excuses about the show being abuse apologising. I analysed it purely in how believable the relationships were and what the intentions of the characters are.
Of these groups, the ones responsible for the most actual SPOP Anti blogs are undoubtedly the Glimmadoras. The only time I've seen something similar, so many antis appearing, was because of Steven Universe ship wars. You have NO IDEA how petty people feel about Lapidot, Amedot, all the dots, all the amethysts. A crew member was chased off the internet over it, or left the internet over the show's own decisions, depending on whether you believe the """screenshots""" that were taken of Zuke's ""private blog""".

I'd almost be willing to forgive people being so defensive of abusive romantic relationships if the abuse was more subtle, since a problem in mainstream media is that abuse is only portrayed as screaming yelling and causing physical harm + very vicious in your face insults and demeaning or shaming them and if it's not like that the victim is just over reacting.
And then I remember the abusive relationships they all desperately defend aren't subtle. In fact that abuse is painfully obvious, but the show and fans sweep it under the rug and try to blame it on trauma or forget about it completely and its never criticised or even acknowledged by the characters.
My main two examples are Stolas and Catra.
Let's see here
First Stolas. His isn't quite as in you face but it should be at least a little obvious. The way he demeans Blitz, treats him like a toy, always calls him his little imp (which is very yikes), and oh uh idk literally r*pes him by withholding something Blitz literally needs to get the money to survive and only gives it when Blitz has sex with him, which Blitz has been blatantly not willing to do and incredibly unhappy about.
I literally do not care what you say. If the deal is "you have sex with me and in return I'll give you the thing that will keep you alive" and the other person is extremely unwilling but is backed into a corner, it. Is. Rape.
That's honestly main problem with them.
But no. He's an a soft traumatised owl and Blitz is in the wrong for not giving him time of day or being open with him.
Now Catra.
Oooh Catra
"She's not abusive! She's a traumatised victim fighting in a war!"
Second part correct, first part not so much.
I have more to say here because her actions are much more in your face
Firstly she is often yelling/screaming at Adora, ripping apart her self esteem and calling her stupid (something which Adora comes to believe) and many other pretty shitty things you should not be saying to someone you've supposedly loved since the start. And she continues calling Adora stupid even during her confession.
Catra is constantly shaming and guilt tripping Adora. Repeating her "You left me!" jargon after Adora has given chance after chance, begging her to come with so they can stay together. And many times it is Catra doing the leaving. She has abandoned Adora in perilous situations multiple times.
Physical harm is everywhere. Yes they're on opposite sides of war. But notice how Adora is reluctant to fight Catra and when she does she tries to take her out in as non violent of a way as possible?
Catra does none of that. In fact, she treats Adora 10x worse than the enemies she barely knows, purposefully targeting Adora with her claws and attacking her, laughing in sheer joy as she tortures her in multiple different ways across the seasons. Even before Adora left the Horde, Catra is constantly manhandling her, yanking her around by the hair, tazing her and other actions like that.
Adora has scars on her back from Catra's claws.
Yes Catra had a redemption as poor as it was. Yes she loves Adora (apparently). Yes she had a traumatising upbringing.
But that does not make her actions okay.
No matter how many good reasons you have or how sorry you say you are, it doesn't make beating, torturing and tearing down the self esteem and mental health of your other half okay.
Even if Catra stopped (and she did not), Adora shouldn't have been painted as the one in the wrong in the series. Adora shouldn't have had to be the one to apologise (yes Catra apologised but only when she thought she was dying) and Adora shouldn't have gotten into a relationship with her abuser.
Spop had the perfect opportunity to show that, even if a person is traumatised and says they're sorry, its okay to walk away.
It's okay to care about your own wellbeing over theirs when they do nothing but treat you like trash.
You don't have to forgive them.
You don't have to return their feelings.
Sometimes it's better for the both of you to separate.
But they didn't.
Instead Catra can do no wrong. She's forgiven instantly. They never bring up the lives she's destroyed, the people she killed- including Glimmer's mother. She's just a soft baby who's actually not that bad and Adora is a terrible person for leaving the Horde after learning it was lying to them and committing mass genocide >:/... and an idiot for not noticing that the woman who tears her down and beats her is in love with her.
And I know HB is going to go down this route too, but with significantly worse storytelling
And that almost frightens me
How can I expect subtle abuse to be tackled in any way when in your face abuse like this is romanticised?

"Catradora is toxic and abusive"
You know what?
Good.
Its been years since She-Ra ended and I'm WAAAY past caring to try and justify my liking for this ship for motherfuckers on here anymore.
Good. I'm glad that catradora is "toxic" because it made for an intriguing story with very complicated characters in complicated situations and while it didn't connect with many, it did with the majority which is all a story can really try to accomplish at the end of the day. Still reach the hearts of those who never gave up on it.
Catra and Adora's story was always destined to have an ending that would piss some people off. No matter how it ended. Because they love eachother and they would always make it back to one another regardless of the hardships and their very challenging past and it's hard to imagine that after all they've been through, but they do.
And some people don't want to see that because it's not a perfect ending and they can't fathom that. They want to see the ending where everything gets tied up in a nice little bow with no open ends and scars but catradora is not it.
Catra and Adora's story is bitter but it's not over. The show may be but you can clearly tell they both have a lot of growing and healing to do as people and they're gonna do that together now away from the toxic environment and people that blurred their mind away from that chance to start something new and healthy.
Catradora through out the show is an end to the shit in their life that wasn't working for both of them and a beginning to find something that can work now without abandoning eachother again.
Really it's incomplete. ND wanted all of us to imagine the next steps of their relationship which is why a lot of people only use their past to determine that instead of their present and their future and come to the conclusion that it's toxic.
And no matter what that's how it's gonna be. Because that's one of the many conclusions people can arrive to.
They're an open book couple with so many possibilities and it's up to our imagination to say where they'll go next. And that's just how it is. It's like the ending of Bojack Horseman. No one's story truly ends but they all arrive at where they need to be to make the next step.
They can be toxic, they can be sweet, they can be bitter. Possibilities are endless.
Tumblr media
Regardless tho they're so fucking interesting just like characters should be. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

You, and anyone with functional eyes: She-ra's original design was actually consistent,
Nate/2018 Crew-Ra: I beg to differ.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guarantee you this was intentional. I bet they did this on purpose as a joke. “Haha! Look how inconsistent it is! Just like the shitty animation back then! We’re so much better then that whitecishetpatriarchal garbage! Look at how bad it was then! They even wore SKIRTS and SLEEVELESS TOPS! And their animation quality probably SUCKED! You know, cuz it’s OLD! Hurhur!”
Which… Like you said, the designs were super consistent in the old one. Plus the new one is riddled with errors, so if this was an intentional ‘joke’, they do not have room to talk.
The thing is even if the original wasn't consistent,at least they would have an excuse due to it being old, but the reboot?? They constantly switch it at random like sometimes the top would be gold, sometimes it would be cloth, one of my favorite times they changed it was when they changed it from gold armor to cloth so we could see Adora's scars when Catra scratched her...how fun. I love seeing someone gets scars from their abusive sister who is also obesesed with them don't you?

Catra: Well, we did it. We scarred them for life.
Adora: M-Maybe it's not as bad as we think. Maybe Finn believed me when I said you got bit by a snake... down there.
Catra: So it's either we've traumatized our child beyond repair, or we've raised them to be an idiot. Fantastic!
