I’ve been in a constant state of pain and disbelief since the Genocide in Gaza started. I have an undergrad in IR, and in IR we tend to read about Genocides. I remember in my second semester we read about the Rwandan Genocide and the Holocaust. I remember thinking how could normal civilians be enticed into killing people, children, pregnant women, and men, all who look like them. This Genocide made me realise that it’s actually pretty easy to mobilise the masses against the oppressed. All you have to do is look at the example of Israel. They dehumanised the Palestinians, called them animals and children of dark. They posted pictures where they were the shoe stomping on a cockroach labelled ‘Gazans’. Their use of propaganda against Palestinians is unparalleled. Their control over media means the ethnic cleansing and genocide isn’t even being broadcast. It makes my heart ache. My soul cry out in despair. How am I supposed to go on in my life when a few miles away from me people are being carpet bombed every single moment of the day. Be it day or night. There are families that have been wiped off and you expect me to go out and function.
This is not a war, it’s a genocide. Israel is a nazi state. It is a zionist state. Calling it out is not antisemitism. Not calling it out is.

i saw this graph in Motaz Azaiza's story today and i was so shocked, i had no words. but as someone who studied statistics, i'm gonna try my best to paint you a picture of the numbers.
before we get into it, this is not to say that the lives lost in the Ukrainian war are worth less, this is simply to show a comparison, to make people see how incredibly violent the Israeli occupation is. this perfectly shows that they target civilians, which makes it a genocide, not a war.
we’re nearing the death toll of the Ukrainian war and it has not even been a month, while the war - an actual war - there has been going on for almost two years. more civilians have been injured in Gaza in less than a month, than in Ukraine in the span of almost two years.
the number of children who lost their lives in Gaza in less than a month is six times more than the children who lost their lives in Ukraine in almost two years. the number of injured children in Gaza in less than a month is eighth time more than the children who had been injured in Ukraine in almost two years.
the people who lost their lives in Ukraine in almost two years is nearly equal to the number of injured children in Gaza in less than a month.
out of all the people who were killed in Ukraine in almost two years only 5.8% of them were children. out of all the people who were killed in Gaza in less than a month 41.5% of them were children. that's very close to 50%, which means that it's almost half of them.
out of all the people who were injured in Ukraine in almost two years 6.7% of them are children. out of all the people who were injured in Gaza in less than a month 40% of them are children. again, very close to half.
i feel like i cannot stress it enough that the numbers in Ukraine, the deaths and injuries happened in almost TWO YEARS. while the deaths and injuries in Gaza, which is so so much smaller than Ukraine, happened in LESS THAN A MONTH.
the area of the Gaza Strip is 365 km² and the area of Ukraine is 603.628 km². the Gaza Strip does not even make up 1% of the whole area of Ukraine.
this is a genocide.
it's loud and clear, it's been unfolding in front of our eyes and the supposed leaders of this world still choose to do absolutely nothing to stop this.
i urge you to go to protests, sign petitions, donate if you can, contact your local representatives and demand a ceasefire. boycott the companies who support this genocide. stay informed, share posts and videos, repost/reblog and do not give up.
the people in Gaza do not have a voice and all they ask from us is to be their voice. that's literally the bare minimum any person could do. don't give up, don't forget even if there are less posts on your social media feed. do not let them silence you. continue to speak up for Palestine.
from the river to the sea.

Hello everybody! This post is going to be different from what I usually do. As we all know, Palestine has been under genocide fueled attack by Israel and the world is becoming aware on how long it has been going on.
I live in the United States so you can say I ain't exactly happy with my government's decisions. They are doing everything they can to support Israel's genocide and cover up their malicious agenda. (Go to @sayruq for further information or check out the latest news on this link here for Palestine Chronicle.)
I believe it's time to ramp up the pressure so everyone who agrees with this, please share this little hashtag on every social media site you're on:
#The United States of Genocide
Spread this hashtag as far and often as you can! Keep up the pressure until Biden or whoever wins the upcoming election backpedal their asses away from this disgusting regime. The United States aren't there to help Palestine so they should stay out of this!
All eyes are on them alongside everyone working with Israel to create another Holocaust. Should you guys receive messages about those supporting this horrible stance, please report and block! They want to rile you up so don't waste your breathe.
From the river to the sea, let Palestine be free!

I  am Kelly, My family is in danger. They are trapped in a city in Gaza called Rafah. They fled there because my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and the only chemo treatment she could receive was there. Due to a militia that is increasingly taking over the country and bombing hospitals, all of the disabled, sick and elderly had to flea to Rafah to get medical treatment. Hundreds of thousands of Gaza people fled out of Rafah earlier this week after the militia overtook the Gaza military. My family was unable to flee because my grandmother is elderly and sick.
As of yesterday, my grandmother, disabled aunt, aunt who is sick with Malaria and my two teenage girl cousins were trapped at the top of an apartment building that has been overtaken by militia. They are helpless.
My aunts are sick and they have been injured. My two cousins are just children. Please help my family.
I'm so so sorry that this is happening to you. That is terrible and it breaks my heart to hear it. If I could go there personally and get them out I would. All I'm able to give your family and your people from a continent away is support, donations and duas! Lots and lots of duas. And I shall keep giving it !
Hang in there my friend, God is watching and retribution can't be too far away.

It has been hard for me to talk about how what is going on with Israel and Palestine is affecting me personally, but I grew up in Gaza and most of my family still lives there. My father did not survive the bombings last week and I have not been able to contact my younger sister in days. I am try to being understanding that most people do not have personal connections to what is happening and therefore are justifying their silence, but is heartbreaking to see this misinformation being spread. What’s happening there is a genocide, not a war. It is not antisemitic to support Palestine, it’s not even antiemetic to criticise Israel. There is no grey area or neutrality regarding this, and it is so easy to find resources that will educate you on the subject. It is my people and my home being destroyed so I will never be silent about this, but I please urge everyone to get informed and start speaking up and finding ways they can help.
decolonizepalestine has tons of information on Palestine’s history/propaganda that has been spread throughout the years
UK citizens can email their MP asking for a ceasefire
US citizens can call/email their local government officials asking for a ceasefire
Jewish Voice for Peace also has many resources for ways for US citizens to get involved, including protests
Donate to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund
Donate to Medical Aid for Palestine
Donate to help get food and hygiene kits to Gaza

the US is directly bombing syria, iraq (x, x, x, x) and yemen simultaneously tonight (very early hours of 03.02.24) while, of course, continuing to proudly fund israel’s ongoing genocide in ghazzah. they’re saying that this is only the beginning of their operations in iraq and syria. meanwhile, israel is increasingly targeting rafah, having just martyred 11 palestinians there in one airstrike alone. as a reminder, rafah is essentially the southern most area in ghazzah and is where israel told palestinians to flee to, calling it a ‘safe zone’. this is all happening the same day israel announced it is preparing for a ground invasion in rafah. allah reham kare

We're almost at the end of three straight months of genocide, 30k deaths, nearly two million displaced and starving. If you're still calling the situation "nuanced" and "complicated" I'm going to beat you with a shovel.

ICJ Ruling
Okay, let's get into this.
First of all, I get the frustration at the court not ordering a ceasefire. I was disappointed and frustrated at first too, since a ceasefire was the biggest and most important preliminary measure South Africa was requesting - and of course we just all want this horror to finally end for the people in Gaza. So I get the frustration and disappointment, I really do.
However, I do think this ruling is still a major win for South Africa, Palestine, and international law as a whole and here's why:
The court acknowledged that it has jurisdiction over this case and completely dismissed Israel's request to throw out the case as a whole. It will now determine at the merits stage (that will probably take years) whether Israel is actually commiting genocide.
The court acknowledged that Palestinians are a "distinct national or ethnic group and therefore deserving of protection under the genocide convention". Pull this out next time someone tells you "there's no such thing as Palestinians, they're all just Arabs".
The court acknowledged very unambiguously that "at least some" of Israel's actions being genocidal in nature is "plausible". South Africa has a case, officially. Israel is accused of genocide, in a way the ICJ deems "plausible", officially. This is huge. (And seriously, how freaking satisfying was it to hear all of those genocidal statements by Israeli politicians read out loud and used as justification for this rulling?)
The court might not have ordered a "ceasefire" in those words, but they did order Israel to "immediately end all genocidal acts" (which includes killing and injuring Palestinians) and submit proof that they actually did. How are they going to comply with this ruling without at least severly reducing or changing what they're doing in Gaza?
In fact, this wording might actually be more appropriate for a genocide (vs a war), as author and journalist Ali Abunimah notes on Twitter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's completely right. Israel lost today, by overwhelming majority (I mean, 15 to 2? I heard people predict the rulings would be very close, like 9 judges vs 8, but instead we got 15 to 2 (and even 16 to 1 on the humanitarian aid). Holy shit.) The court disimissed almost everything Israel's side of lawyers said, while acknowledging that South Africa's accusations are "plausible".
And this is important especially because of Mr Abunimah's second tweet there^. Because the question is, where do we go from here?
This ruling means that Israel is officially /possibly/ commiting genocide and that should have huge international consequences. The rest of the world now HAS to take these accusations seriously and stop arming and supporting Israel - and if they won't do it on their own, we, the people, have to make them. This is THE moment to rise up all around the world, especially in the countries most supportive of Israel (the US, the UK, Germany): Protest, call your representatives and demand a ceasefire and an end of arms deliveries to Israel.
We now have a legal case to back our demands: If Israel is, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" commiting genocide, then all of our governments are, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" guiltly of aiding in genocide. And we need to hold that over their heads and demand better. We need to do that right now and in huge numbers. Most politicians only care about themselves and saving their skin. We have to make them realize that they could be accused of aiding in genocide.
(As a German, I'm thinking of Germany here in particular: After South Africa's hearing, our government dismissed their case as having "no basis" - how are they going to keep saying that now that the ICJ officially thinks otherwise? Over the last months, people here have been arrested at protests for calling what's happening in Gaza a genocide. How are the police supposed to legally keep doing that now that the ICJ has officially deemed this accusation "plausible"? I used to be scared to use the word "genocide" at protests or write it on my protest signs - not anymore, have fun trying to arrest me for that when the ICJ literally has my back on this one 🖕🏻.)
So yeah - don't be defeatist about this, don't let Israel's narrative that they "won" (they didn't) take over. This might not be everything we wanted, but it's still a good result. Don't let what the court didn't say ("ceasefire"), distract you from the very important things that they did say. Let this be your motivation to get loud and active, especially if you live in any country that supports Israel. Put pressure on your governments to not be complicit in genocide, you now officially have the highest international court on your side.

honestly if you don't outwardly show support for palestine, i'm automatically assuming you're a zionist. no one has an excuse about being uneducated anymore. everyone who does not support us, either out of ignorance or genuine malice, is complicit in our genocide and i do not trust them at all. if you have not spoken out about what is happening, you are not, and were never, our ally.
