i think people don't like mark hoffman because of how honest he is. he enjoys killing, he admits that the people he tests deserves it. he takes on the jigsaw title as if it was a job- he ensures that the same people that killed his sister- nazis, white supremacists, abusers, murders- that they suffer. he ultimately views the jigsaw role as a vigilante title- he gets so involved with his hate after johns death that he doesnt see himself becoming a murderer. he views himself as the sword of justice, the tool, rather than the man wielding the sword. he becomes blind to how much blood is on his hands. everyone but him can see how he is blinded by his rage. to him, he is ensuring people like his sister are safe. to everyone else, he is a killer. he is a murderer. he is what he swore to strike down. he is exactly the person he himself would kill. thats why he was tested. he would have tested himself if he wasnt blinded. thats why lawrences trap for him was so brilliant- mark hoffman was locked away, blind in the dark, with not even the tools to complete the saw trap. mark hoffman's test was to realize he was a killer. he never passed.
