Irish Christmas Dinner, non-trad version.
When it's just us, we don't have to follow tradition (turkey, stuffing, ham etc.) if we don't want to.
There was going to be a tiny nod towards tradition with roast potatoes, but I cut them too small, they turned out to be excellent potato wedge munchies, and got eaten as such before photography time.
Oh Woe. :->
Sauerbraten, Kartoffelklosschen, Rotkohl, with green beans & carrots for colour because the images would have been a bit monochrome.
The taste and scent, however, were Cinemascope and Technicolor...

Sauerkraut Balls, Sauerbraten, Cherry Strudel. Edelweiss. Colorado Springs, Colorado. 5.18.2023.
NOTE TO SELF: It's been a while since I've gone full-blown German and this place did it up right, all the way from the sauerkraut balls to the strudel. I even loved the "salad" plate of beets, cold green beans, and cucumbers. Everything was top-notch. Easily a top-ten meal of the year.

Right: there's the Christmas dinner recipe, which I'll tweak until it matches my mom's as closely as possible. (I won't be having the red cabbage, as I'm none too sure my IBS won't give me grief over it. But @petermorwood won't let it go to waste.)
...Fond memories of the last time I made this for Christmas—2011, I think—as we had a foot of snow on the ground, and it had been so cold for a number of days that our well froze and I had to melt snow to cook the side dishes in.
(Here's Mr. Squeak, who was still with us then and fairly hale [at about 17 years of age], bitching that even though we shoveled a path to the gate so he could go look at whatever traffic there was, his feet were still cold.) :)
