One week travel Itinerary in Gran Canaria

Day 1 – Arrival to the island and Beach Time

It is your first day on Gran Canaria, so we strongly recommend you to relax. Once you have arrived to your accommodation and you have finished unpacking, you can take your towel and spread it on the beach. This will be useful to save up some energy for the next days of adventure! So enjoy a fabulous day lying at the beach, sunbathing, swimming, walking along the beach, or doing whatever you want!

Day 2 – West and Northwest Coast

Presa de las Niñas

Presa de las Niñas is the place that you definitely shouldn’t skipped on your one week trip to Gran Canaria. The road leading to this amazing spot is quite picturesque and definitely impressive, but you better be prepared for the curves.

Once you get to Presa de las Niñas, you have to hike around the lake or take the walk from here to the next dam — Soria. If you don’t like hiking, just enjoy being at the dam — you can relax, having a BBQ or just sit back and enjoy the views of this astonishing place!

Puerto de Mogan

Puerto de Mogan is a lovely stop if you are looking for a good place to eat, have a coffee, plunge into the water or buy some souvenirs! As we have mentioned in other posts, Puerto de Mogan is also known as the “little Venice” of Gran Canaria.

Playa de la Aldea

This small beach is located in San Nicolás, right in the South-West of the island. It is the perfect spot to plunge into the water and enjoy the sun rays on your skin! Not so far, there is a path leading to the top of a hill that you can walk up and enjoy the stunnng views! Very recommended if you stay one week in Gran Canaria!

Mirador del Balcon

There is a viewpoint located at the zone called Anden Verde — a zone in the North-West of Gran Canaria Island. It is called Mirador del Balcon, and it is one of those landscapes that will let you speechless! The amazing view of the cliffs launched from the sea with the volcano of Tenerife (Mount Teide) at the back will make you comprehend how astonishing the Canary Islands are! Day 3 – Central Island

Tejeda

Santa Lucia

Santa Lucia is a cute mountain village located in the Southern part of the island! It has an impressive church to visit, a beautiful park to sit in and some great bars and restaurants with lovely terraces!

W ciągu ostatnich kilku lat popularność Wysp Kanaryjskich wśród turystów zaczęła wzrastać bardzo szybko. Najpopularniejszą z wysp jest Teneryfa, ale coraz większym zainteresowaniem, zwłaszcza wśród Polaków cieszy się Gran Canaria, która przeżywa drugą, turystyczną młodość.

O wyspie

Gran Canaria jest trzecią co do wielkości wyspą archipelagu Wysp Kanaryjskich (zaraz za Teneryfą i Fuertaventurą) i drugą co do liczby ludności. Ma powierzchnię 1560 km², a liczba mieszkańców wynosi około 845 tys. (dane za 2015 rok). Największym miastem i zarazem stolicą wyspy jest Las Palmas, będące również olbrzymim portem zapewniającym połączenie z światem. Na południe od stolicy znajduje się port lotniczy Gran Canaria. Ze względu na panującą na wyspie różnorodność klimatyczną, Gran Canaria nosi miano “kontynentu w miniaturze”.

Wyspa ma kształt stożka i jest prawie idealnie okrągła. Podobnie jak Teneryfa, można powiedzieć, że jest podzielona na dwie części – północno-wschodnią – nieco chłodniejszą i bardziej zieloną, oraz południowo zachodnią – bardziej kamienistą i suchą, na której przez cały rok panuje piękna pogoda. Praktycznie cała baza turystyczna znajduje się na południu wyspy w rejonie od Mogán do San Augustina a największym kurortem jest Maspalomas, leżące nad wydmami w najbardziej wysuniętym na południe punkcie wyspy.

Zarówno Maspalomas jak i San Augustin są starszymi kurortami, a wiele tamtejszych hoteli powstało na przełomie lat 80. i 90. Najmłodszym kurortem jest Meloneras, znajdujące się na południowy-wschód od Maspalomas. Chociaż znajduje się tam tylko kilka hoteli należących do grup Lopesan i Riu, są one najlepszymi na wyspie. Znajdziemy tu piękną promenadę i kilka centrów handlowych. Mimo wieczornych tłumów, w ciągu dnia jest tu spokojnie.

Bardziej na zachód, w kierunku Mogán kolejne kurorty są dosłownie wciśnięte między skały, co oznacza, że oprócz pięknych portów, nie mają zbyt dużych plaż, a hotele są znacznie mniejsze i często usytuowane na zboczach gór. Mimo trudnego terenu, to właśnie w tej części wyspy powstaje obecnie najwięcej nowych hoteli, budowanych głównie z myślą o turystach przybywających na wyspę własnymi jachtami.

Jako kierunek wakacyjny Gran Canaria przeżywa w ostatnich latach drugą młodość (można nawet pokusić się o stwierdzenie, że jest to już trzecia młodość, ponieważ pierwsze większe hotele zaczęto budować na wyspie w latach 70., a kolejny bum turystyczny miał miejsce w latach 90.). W przeciwieństwie do Teneryfy, na Gran Canarię przybywają głównie Skandynawowie (zwłaszcza w okresie zimowym), Niemcy, Brytyjczycy oraz Polacy. Warto w tym miejscu dodać, że mieszkańcy Gran Canarii bardzo nas lubią i praktycznie w każdym sklepie znajdziemy kogoś, kto potrafi powiedzieć chociaż kilka pojedynczych słów po Polsku. Na Gran Canarii nie spotkamy natomiast zbyt wielu Rosjan, którzy tak tłumnie odwiedzają inne duże wyspy archipelagu.

Oprócz licznych atrakcji czekających na turystów, głównym powodem rosnącej popularności Gran Canarii jest wysoki poziom bezpieczeństwa na wyspie, o który dbają zarówno władze, co widać po patrolach policji, które przemierzają kurorty, jak i właściciele hoteli i centrów handlowych, którzy inwestują w ochronę, która dba o porządek. Na szczęście obecność służb nie jest nachalna, więc nie czujemy się tam jak w państwie policyjnym 🙂

Atrakcje

Jak przystało na porządny i rozwinięty kurort, Gran Canaria może zaoferować turystom wiele różnorodnych atrakcji. Praktycznie każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie – od parków rozrywki, przez zwiedzanie, piękne plaże aż po zakupy czy możliwość zagrania w golfa na jednym z kilku olbrzymich i pięknie położonych pól golfowych.

Jeśli chodzi o plaże, najlepsze znajdują się w rejonie Mespalomas, a dokładnie na wydmach. Piękny krajobraz i jasny piasek, a także oddalenie od promenad i hoteli sprawiają, że plaże są spokojne i każdy znajdzie dla siebie miejsce. Nawet… nudyści, którzy mają na wydmach swoją wydzieloną strefę (podobne plaże znajdują się również bardziej na zachód). Im bardziej na zachód w kierunku Mogán plaże są mniejsze i bardziej kamieniste, ale praktycznie każda miejscowość ma chociaż niewielki fragment wybrzeża na którym można się opalać lub wejść do wody.

Jeśli chodzi o bardziej aktywne spędzanie czasu, na wyspie znajduje się kilka parków wodnych i rozrywki. Niedaleko Maspalomas znajdziemy olbrzymi park wodny Aqualand, oraz Hangar 37 – park paintballowy. Jeśli bardziej interesuje nas przyroda, warto odwiedzić park z zwierzętami Palmitos. Znajduje się on w górach i jest zarówno ogrodem zoologicznym i botanicznym jak i parkiem rozrywki, w którym organizowane są pokazy z zwierzętami, z których najciekawszymi są drapieżne ptaki.

Jeśli bardziej interesuje nas sama przyroda, warto wybrać się do ogrodu botanicznego Jardín Canario, w którym znajdziemy olbrzymią ilość kaktusów i innych, typowo kanaryjskich roślin. Jednymi z ciekawszych okazów są kaktusy nazywane “fotelem teściowej”. Lepiej jednak na nim nie siadać… Wstęp do ogrodu jest w pełni darmowy, ale na szczęście z racji nieco utrudnionego dojazdu (do parku ciężko dostać się komunikacją miejską oraz nie ma za bardzo parkingów dla samochodów osobowych) nie ma tam tłumów.

Jednym z obowiązkowych miejsc do odwiedzenia na Gran Canarii jest wzgórze Pico Bandama, górujące nad kraterem po nieczynnym już wulkanie. Warto przyjechać tu wcześnie rano, aby uniknąć tłumów. Z wzgórza rozciąga się znakomity widok na całą południowo-wschodnią część wyspy. Niedaleko znajduje się również wspomniany wcześniej Jardín Canario, więc oba miejsca można zaliczyć szybko za jednym razem.

Kolejnym ważnym miejscem do odwiedzenia jest miasteczko Teror, w którym znajduje się bazylika Matki Boskiej Sosnowej. Miasteczko zwykle jest pełne turystów, dlatego warto zajrzeć w boczne uliczki, gdzie znajdziemy wiele pięknych domów z kanaryjskimi balkonami. W znajdującym się w pobliżu centrum sklepie z pamiątkami można również znaleźć wiele typowych dla Gran Canarii pamiątek – oczywiście nie zabraknie tam również chińszczyzny, więc warto uważnie robić zakupy. Kolejnym wartym odwiedzenia miastem jest Arucas na północy wyspy, gdzie znajdziemy piękną zabytkową katedrę, fabrykę rumu oraz ogród botaniczny Jardín de la Marquesa de Arucas.

Jeśli nie boimy się serpentyn i nie mamy choroby lokomocyjnej, warto przejechać się drogą GC-60. Wijąca się górskimi szlakami trasa prowadzi przez wiele sennych kanaryjskich miejscowości, w których warto zrobić krótki postój – m.in. Tajede, Fataga oraz San Bartolomé Tirajana. Po drodze będziemy mogli również sfotografować charakterystyczną Roque Nublo i przejechać się Doliną Tysiąca Palm. Wracając do cywilizacji warto zatrzymać się w punkcie widokowym Degollada de La Yegua, z którego rozpościera się wspaniały widok na całą okolicę.

Na południowym-zachodzie, tuż obok miasteczka Mogán znajduje się Puerto de Mogán. Niewielki port nazywany jest “Małą Wenecją”. Warto spędzić tam nawet kilka godzin, podziwiając pełne kwiatów malownicze uliczki. Najlepiej przyjechać rano, aby obejrzeć uliczki w pełnym słońcu, lub pod wieczór, przed zachodem słońca. W okolicy jest również całkiem ładna plaża i sporo sklepów, więc spokojnie można spędzić tam sporo czasu.

Lista miejsc do odwiedzenia na Gran Canarii jest jeszcze długa (jeden wyjazd na pewno nie wystarczy, aby na spokojnie poznać wyspę z wszystkimi jej urokami). Warto zainteresować się omijanym przez turystów miasteczkiem Agüimes z piękną starówką czy też malowniczą wioską rybacką San Cristobal albo Gáldar. Mniej znanym miejscem do odwiedzenia jest również Barranco Hondo – kompleks jaskiń zamieszkiwanych kiedyś przez rdzennych mieszkańców wyspy, Guanczów.

Kto pierwszy ten lepszy

Popularność Gran Canarii jest tak duża, że latem praktycznie nie ma szans na znalezienie wolnych pokoi w hotelach – w sierpniu wszystkie hotele są całkowicie zapełnione. Planując wyjazd na Gran Canarię warto więc zarezerwować go wcześniej (sam byłem na Gran Canarii cztery razy i za każdym razem wakacje rezerwowałem ponad pół roku wcześniej).

Na miejscu można skorzystać zarówno z wycieczek organizowanych przez biuro podróży jak i samemu wypożyczyć samochód – poruszanie się po wyspie jest całkiem wygodne – nie licząc serpentyn na górskich trasach. Warto jednak pamiętać, że w wielu miejscach lepiej spędzić więcej czasu, a zaplanowane w trakcie zorganizowanych wycieczek postoje są stanowczo za krótkie.

Na Gran Canarii sezon turystyczny trwa cały rok. Najwięcej turystów przyjeżdża w środku lata oraz na jesień i wczesną wiosnę. Najgorszy okres przypada na listopad-luty, kiedy pogoda jest nieco chłodniejsza i mogą pojawić się deszcze.
