Was thinking today about how money is like a rewind button for life. I didn't have it until a year ago, when I finally graduated from medical residency and my salary tripled overnight; I just never had the kind of money that makes these things possible. But now I do, and I can tell you that I don't fear making a lot of the mistakes that used to terrify me. If I spent 5 bucks on a mascara and hated it, well, tough luck, I either don't wear mascara or I wear that one. I couldn't buy shoes online. What if I have to return them? What if I can't get away from work long enough to return them? So I'd buy them in person, walking around and around the store, hoping I'd figure it out if they were going to pinch or hurt me because I wasn't getting a second shot at that money.
I dyed my hair. I'm bored with it now and trying to get the dye out, and I'm not stressed about it, because worst case scenario, I have the money to buy more bleach and more dye and if I need to I can pay for a stylist to fix it.
I bought shoes online. One pair didn't fit. I just gave them away. Easier than returning and the money means something totally different to me now.
I'm doing things I simply would never have done, could never have done, because I have the money to fix them if I make mistakes at these things that are new to me.
It is beyond inhumane that this is what gets people the ability to make mistakes and come back from them, erase them, fix them, rewind. We need to make life easier for everyone, not minuscule increments better for the already very rich.

Bangladesh will raise the minimum wage for garment workers by 56.25%, the first hike since 2019, the junior labour minister said on Tuesday after a week of protests calling for higher salaries. The minimum wage for workers will be increased from 8,000 taka to 12,500 taka ($114) per month from Dec. 1, State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian said. There will also be a 5% annual increment. The protests, which led to clashes with police that killed two workers and wounded dozens more, pushed the government to form a panel of factory owners, union leaders and officials to consider the demand for higher pay.[...]
"(Government welfare) cards will be provided to the workers, later the ration cards will be given to them so they can buy essential commodities at cheaper rates," Rahman, also a former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, told Reuters. Workers, however, are not happy with the rise at a time when inflation is running at 9.5%.
7 Nov 23
[TheDailyStar is Bengali Private Media]
The wage board for garment workers has set the minimum salary at Tk 12,500, a little over half of what workers demand. Union leaders have rejected the new minimum wage put forth by the wage board, which accepted the proposal of factory owners’ representative Siddiqur Rahman. The current starting wage is Tk 8,000. Union leaders yesterday threatened to go for tough demonstrations. Workers had demonstrated for 12 straight days.[...]
Before the announcement, members of the Minimum Wage Board, formed on April 9, held a meeting at its office. While the meeting was going on, union leaders outside chanted slogans demanding a minimum wage of at least Tk 23,000. Demanding a starting salary of Tk 25,000, Montu Ghosh, president of Garment Sramik Trade Union Kendra, said the measly amount set was not enough to lead a good life. Inflation and high prices of essentials have made things worse for garment workers. Ghosh along with other union leaders of the Mojuri Briddhite Garment Sramik Andolon, a platform of workers’ unions, in a statement rejected the new minimum wage and called for a rally on Friday where they would announce tougher programmes[...]
If the workers’ unrest continues, the responsibility will lie with the wage board, Nazma said.[...]
[The] president of the Bangladesh Apparel Workers’ Federation, said the prime minister’s intervention is needed in setting the new minimum wage. He demanded ration cards, not the family cards of the TCB, for the garment workers.[...]
The new minimum wage is much less than those offered in India, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Indonesia. Only Pakistan has a lower minimum wage. Early last month, the Centre for Policy Dialogue, after a survey, interviews and research, estimated that the minimum wage for an RMG worker should be Tk 17,568. The new minimum wage falls short of that. The think-tank had delved into food and non-food expenditure patterns of 228 workers from 76 factories and even considered how many earning members an average RMG worker’s family had. The CPD had stated that the food cost for an RMG worker family was at least Tk 9,198 a month but notes that the standard food expenditure for a family of four would be Tk 16,529 and that the garment workers have to cut corners to make ends meet.
It said 12 percent of the workers’ families do not buy milk at all, 5 percent do not buy sugar, and 5 percent do not consume fruits.

i just had this thought after watching one too many medical dramas, how are hospitals going to change after ghoul legalization? how many doctor will turn up all of a sudden being ghouls? will ghouls only be allowed to treat ghouls and humans only be allowed to treat human? and will the medical field evolve for the better for both humans and ghouls?
GHOULS IN HEALTHCARE
Medical care is not something most ghouls had access to, and ghouls aren’t something most doctors considered before, but after legalization and the promise made that ghouls would be given access to doctors, the need arose. It was a big shake up of the system, doctors pushing back against the idea of retraining, a lack of a plan for how to go about getting ghouls into hospitals, and even the common argument that ghouls should go the a vet instead. To try to handle this, former CCG ghouls researchers were offered positions in hospitals as the closest thing there is to a ghoul specialist. Between their knowledge of ghouls and doctor’s knowledge of medicine, the early access ghouls got was shoddy, not well researched, and often fraught with mistreatment and neglect
It got better as more ghouls came out, and the previous few ghouls who managed to become doctors became highly sought both as practitioners and for teaching medical students and leading studies. Humans making a big stand about refusing to be treated by a ghoul doctor we’re just loud and obnoxious because the ghoul doctors they’re oh so adamant about rejecting are way too busy founding a new branch of medicine
A lot of things had to be tested and researched. For the first time there’s ghouls that need prescriptions and treatments and they’re really trying to figure out what medicines in what doses work. Most ghouls make a few extra bucks here and there from studies desperate for a ghoul to take some pills and report results
The advancements in medical technology they got from ghouls were immense. Previously terminal diseases are getting treatments using ghoul rc cells. Previously irreversible chronic illnesses and injuries are making incremental progress for the better and increasing quality of life. Even organ donation is better. It turns out that if a ghoul with low enough rc donates a kidney or lung to a human who’s okay with a lifetime of rc supplements, it works just fine, and there’s ghouls now who’s whole job is just being an organ farm with a salary and benefits
Half-ghoul surgery becomes a rare, but lifesaving procedure. It took a long time for it to be okayed on human trials after the studies on the quinx and artificial ghouls came out to the horror of the entire medical community, but in some cases of extreme disfigurement and injury, if there’s a donor kakuhou available they can implant it. It’s a heavily regulated and closely monitored procedure, but a human who’s lost a significant portion of their body can be saved by the process of becoming na artificial ghoul, regenerate most of what they lost, then be given the treatment to remove the need for human flesh
Over time, more ghouls are going into the medical field, and when the original uproar from people upset at having to entrust their health to their predators died down, it became clear that they make great doctors. They can sniff out a lot of infection or diseases. They can smell blood and bile on someone’s breath. They can utilize adaptations meant for hunting humans to diagnose them and, when in an emergency, they tend to have no problems sticking their hands into a mess of a body. Many ghouls are sought out as emts and paramedics for that ability to sniff out blood and lack of disgust response when it comes to the nasty side of saving lives

Omfg your retarded! It’s obvious if you stepped outside. Minimum wage hasn’t been raised in years. Rent never stops increasing. Student loans are a death sentence. I just want to be able to afford to fucking live and not question being alive everyday of my life
I see where you're coming from and I understand why those conditions and challenges would make you feel the way you do. All of those in aggregate surely would feel like an impossible barrier to ever overcome.
You are absolutely correct that minimum wage has not been raised in years in most parts of the country and for most individuals, changes in legislation appear to be the only path to a higher income, but you underestimate how much control you truly have in obtaining a higher income. I do not know your journey thus far in life, but what I have observed in a lot of struggling individuals that express similar sentiments that you are mentioning is that they view success as an all-or-nothing pursuit. Now what I mean by this is that a lot of people have a vision of what they want their life to be and they are chasing the it as their next step in life, but instead they should be figuring out what are all the steps to get to their goal of success and viewing each step as an incremental win or success in itself.
e.g. If your goal is $100k and you're at $20k, then you don't need to feel stuck trying to go straight to $100k. You can make it a multi-step journey of progression from $20k -> $30k -> $40k ... $100k
Once gain you are absolutely correct about rent, but the key is that you consistently allow your income to increase too and yes, this is absolutely easier said than done, but you have potential to do it!
Now student loans can definitely be dangerous and relative to your current income, it seems astronomical to manage, but this is because it's meant to be relative to college graduate incomes and to be paid off over a decade. To put this into perspective, the median student loan balance for graduates is close to $35k, which is a little bit more than a new car and usually at a significant lower interest rate (~4.66%), which would equate to $365 monthly payment or $4380 per year. Meanwhile, median starting salary of college graduates upon graduating is the average starting salary for the graduating class of 2022 is $55,260. Even if you ignore raises, that still puts them at ~$51k (after paying student loans), so they generally have being standards of living than those with no student loans earning a significantly lower income.
Regardless of all that information and even if you want to ignore it, at the very least please don't ever question being alive!

again, write before anything else in the morning MIGHT = me getting something posted this year. augh.
anyway, there are two scenes in 4x02 I want to keep almost the same; one is the moment where Brian tells the headhunter a shitty job isn't worth it and Justin's all "you're just taking an awfully big risk [not taking the job], you could wind up destitute" and Brian's like, "well. what's one more?" as if he's like, accepted Justin, accepted he's working for himself, etc., what IS one more risk??
and then the other is brian telling ted, "you've hit bottom with a resounding thud. of course, there's only one way to go from there... rhymes with...?" "up"? Which is clearly like, Brian empathizing [to a certain degree] with Ted, staring down his life from the vantage point of having clawed his way one step away from rock-bottom, but knowing just how much farther he has to go. just like brian.
now picture that brian terrified of cancer.
~
Justin got out of the shower to find Brian laying naked on the bed and clenching his fist while he charmed someone on the phone. "Two thirds my previous salary and no profit sharing for the first five years?" he asked. "That's an interesting way to negotiate."
An unintelligible mumble came from Brian's cel phone. Justin couldn't help but grin as Brian pulled him down and flipped him onto his back. Justin squirmed as Brian stroked his face and neck, down to his shoulder, and then pinched his ribs.
"Times are tough," Brian agreed. "Which leads me to wonder what other kinds of benefits they've decided junior--" and he put a little more emphasis on 'junior' (oh, great, his ego was rearing its head)-- "associates don't get? Let me guess, stock options come at the same time as profit sharing? Medical and dental have six month waiting periods? Oh, I know. Travel reimbursements after a year-long probationary period!"
Another unintelligible mumble; Brian had stopped moving altogether, staring at the wall instead of Justin as he listened. Justin watched his face, moving a hand slowly along the nape of Brian's neck as Brian's face slowly collapsed in infintessimally small increments.
So. That was a resounding yes to the medical waiting list (and probably no expenses or stock too).
Then Brian pulled his mask back on, even smiled (vaguely Justin remembered his [etiquette teacher] once saying 'if you have to sound pleasant, smile, even if its fake; it comes out in your voice!'). He moved his hips just enough to stroke his semi-hard cock along Justin's balls and told whoever it was on the phone, "You can inform them I've taken a new position; one with more impressive returns."
Another unintelligible murmur. Brian ran his fingers through Justin's hair with his free hand, twisting it, as he started frowning. "I suppose there's no harm in keeping my resume out there. But if this is your best efforts, I doubt it."
Justin distinctly heard the woman on the phone saying, "then best of luck to you, Mr. Kinney," before Brian snapped his phone closed and tossed it off the bed (where Justin heard it skitter across the bedroom floor).
"So, no expense account?" Justin asked, trying to be cheerful.
Both of Brian's hands were in Justin's hair, and Brian dropped his forehead to rest against Justin's collarbone. "Six month waiting period, like all the rest." He snorted. "I bet it's the same fucking insurer as Vangard, honestly."
"Shit." Justin bit his lip. "Still, it didn't sound like a bad salary. And as long as I'm at Starbucks--"
"You need to go back to school, Sunshine."
Now was not the time to get into that argument; Justin still had [a few weeks] before winter term registration closed. Justin bit Brian's neck gently. "So what are you gonna do?"
Brian collapsed his weight onto Justin, letting his body sink until they were touching all over, Justin's legs cradling Brian and Brian's face tucked into Justin's neck. "Fuck if I know. You heard her. That was 'the best offer she'd seen in weeks, and I'd be lucky to get it'."
"Shit."
Brian nodded against Justin's neck, not that Justin could see his face.
"Was it a good idea to tell her to fuck off?"
Brian shrugged against him; Justin felt his cock twitch. "She won't give a shit if something else comes along that she wants me to interview for." All of a sudden, Brian shifted up so he could stare into Justin's eyes. "Fuck it," he declared. "I can do better working for myself."
["I thought you'd contacted your clients and they weren't ready to jump ship."]
"Not yet they aren't," Brian told him. "Give me a few months and they'll be begging to take me back. Besides, I can get others. Ones who aren't pathetic."
Justin thought about it. He, above everyone else, knew that at least half of Brian's confidence was carefully hidden bravado; sometimes a lot more than half. But down in the core of Brian was a healthy chunk of (well-deserved) self-confidence too, and determination, and faith, even, in his own ability to survive and thrive. The fuck'em mentality, brought to life.
Justin didn't disagree, but Brian had had so many fucking upsets, so many shocks, in the last few weeks, he just didn't... want him to be reacting because of that. "What if you can't get the clients?" Justin asked. "You'll be destitute."
And then Brian said the thing that made Justin realize why he was really doing this -- why he was truly ready. "And I'm not now, Sunshine?" Brian countered. It was said matter-of-factly, Brian's eyes clear, and Justin realized that Brian had finally accepted his current state of affairs, at least about the job, had internalized it and started thinking four steps ahead again. Brian continued, "No job, no money, maybe [four months'] worth of expenses in the bank, and [an MRI] to find out if I'll have to shell out [a hundred thousand bucks] to pay for fucking cancer treatment?"
"It's still an awfully big risk."
Brian looked right at him, before replying seriously, "Well, what's one more? At least I'll get to pick the fucking insurance package." Justin blinked, and Brian continued quietly, like a confession, "Besides. If I don't do this now, I never will."
Brian raised his eyebrow, Justin nodded, a little movement of his head, as Brian twined his fingers into Justin's hair absently. There was nothing else that needed to be said.

My mother: you need to move into a better apartment I don’t know why you’re renting that horrible place.
Me: I can barely afford to live HERE.
Also my mother: you know that $3000 you owe me? I decided you can’t pay me back in increments. I want it back by the end of the month.
Me: …
Also my mother: oh I just gave your sister $500 to celebrate her starting her new job. You know, the one with the 6 figure salary.
Me: …cool.

My Question
Will my boss approve my salary increment?
Is my FS from foreign country?
Should I stay in my current career path?
Thank you, take your time.
Thank you for your participation!
1. Yes
