kirsi stumbles upon mr. dinesh when she finally managed to sneak out for the evening and ends up uncovering a personal secret

“Why does she resent you?” Kirsi couldn’t help but ask. Mr. Dinesh eyed her somewhat warily, and a hearty silence befell their little tucked away tavern corner. She supposed she blurted it out without meaning to, however, she was horribly curious to know. Even if it wouldn’t aid her in her quest; he looked terribly lonely tucked away back here. He was probably surprised that she recognized him at all.

After weighing his options for a mighty moment, Mr. Dinesh picked up his tankard and took a drink. He took strong gulps of it, until it clattered empty when he set it back down again on the table. He sighed.

“My mother,” He said quietly. “Resents me because I haven’t any interest in raising heirs.” Kirsi nodded slowly, frowning. She understood why politically that was somewhat of a choice a parent may not want their child to make but… “But more than that,” Mr. Dinesh used his chin to point towards where people were gathering for a lively Northern jig. She watched him carefully; his sea dark eyes roamed the crowd; purposefully slow, but alert. Each woman his gaze landed on he let his eyes trail away. But when he finally let his eyes linger…

“Let’s just say, I’d rather take a barhand to bed than a maid.” He said quietly; as if it were a secret shared between friends. Kirsi blushed at the implication, but it was quite easy to catch his meaning. She could surmise that perhaps his mother wouldn’t be so cold if he did his “duties”, but a refusal of them made this preference in poor timing and taste. Kirsi bit her lip, but after a moment reached across the table to squeeze his wrist lightly. His eyes wandered back to hers and he gave her a lazy smirk.

“So that is why I prefer to be out of the house.” He said a bit louder. “Yes, I see.” Kirsi said, squeezing his wrist a little tighter. She wish she had more to say, but her comfort seemed to be enough—or at least for the moment.

ALIZATH -> MAJOR COURTS

the political climate of Alizath is comprised of 4 major families; each faction representing a different court. The Iron Spring, under the rule of the Atherton's currently has the most power in Alizath, by way of banishing their main political rivals the Sunniva's from Alizath 30 years ago, and sending The Brass Autumn court into a tailspin. Recently, a family has finally rose to take the Sunniva's place in this court and has been quickly rising to noterity: the St. Jora's. While not directly involved in the main vys for power, The Steel Winter is a strong and formidable family, with the most military firepower of the other three courts combined. Its ruled by the Flykrost's. Finally, the more divided Titanium Summer court has been falling into decline, and many suspect that it won't be long before the Dinesh's are disposed from their position.

Each court has one court witch; only allowed to live due to their life debt to the families that they serve. Full witches in Alizath are powerful, though they only have one main form of magic innate to them. That innate magic comes with the cost of one fatal setback that hinders their ability.

THE SUNNIVA'S -> returning to Alizath in order to seek revenge on The Atherton family, and to regain their rightful place among the courts.

KIRSI SUNNIVA (she/her) & our main character — the (adoptive; Kirsi is unaware of this fact) daughter of Lord Sunniva, she has come to enter Alizath’s social scene and restore prominence and the good will of the Sunniva family name. She was brought up under the watchful eye of her aunt Lady Jeanna Sunniva, who is currently posing as her governness, so as to not draw too much attention to their goals. Curious, charming, and steadfast.

LADY JEANNA SUNNIVA / MISS ANNAJE IVANNUS (she/her) — the younger sister of Lord Sunniva, she has taken on the role of caretaker to Kirsi and the key to their return to Alizath, for her brother would be killed if he even steps foot on the continent. She keeps herself put together and stern, believing wholly in the good will of her brother, though there is something about her that seems forlorn.

LORD BIAND SUNNIVA (he/him) — the banished and disgraced former lord of the Autumn Court, seeking revenge and return to grace against the Athertons who disposed him of his position. After seeking counsel from a witch post banishment and with the advice of the mysterious Lord St. Jora, he adopts Kirsi to begin their return to prominence. He and Kirsi have never met face to face, though he contacts Lady Jeanna regularly to check on her progress.

THE ATHERTON'S -> rulers of The Iron Spring

LORD DOMINIQ EKBER ATHERTON (he/him) — commanding and domineering he rules over the Iron Spring and currently the most powerful court in Alizath. He has stopped at nothing to achieve his goals and to secure power for himself and future generations after him, however with a sudden decline in his health, it is rumored that he has begun to train his young nephew of his late sister, Zepheryos, to take over their growing empire in his stead.

VISCOUNT ZEPHERYOS ATHERTON (he/him) — growing up with a sense of hero worship towards his Uncle has not helped this young man in the slightest to be prepared to rule. He craves power like a dog craves bones; relentlessly and hungrily.

MISS GREYE ATHERTON (she/her) — growing up in the shadow of her father’s ambition and earning nothing but his ire had left Greye bitter and resentful. She resents that she doesn’t know who her mother was, and that by simply existing she has been scorned and cast aside. Despite the stigma of magic, her frequent visits to their court mage, Adisa, could bode ill in the future.

MISS MERIKE ATHERTON (she/her) — the younger and more spoiled daughter of the Atherton’s. Despite being born with a silver spoon, Merike is naive and dense to the political climate that they live in. She is cheerful and well mannered and it’s hard to hate her, however her ignorance could be more of a threat than her father thinks it can be. She seeks love like in her fairy tale novels and despite her charming clumsiness in the Alizath social scene, no one will approach her for fear of her father’s wrath.

COURT WITCH ADISA (she/her) — the witch of the Atherton’s. She has premonitions in the form of visions, however she can only draw one image from the vision before her memory is wiped of it completely. Over the many years that she has been indebted to the Iron Spring, she has developed a complex system to ascertain as much meaning from her predictions as possible with her utilization of colors, line strokes, etc.

THE ST. JORA'S -> new rulers of The Brass Autumn

LORD GAVRIEL EUGRAPHIOS ST. JORA (he/him) — sly, cunning, and mysterious, Lord St. Jora has been absent from Alizath on business for almost twenty years now; leaving the sole responsibility of the prominence and safety of the family in his son Juven’s hands. He has been helping the Sunniva’s integrate back into Alizath but for what reasons… who can say.

VISCOUNT JUVEN ST. JORA (he/him) & Kirsi’s main love interest. — There is more than what meets the eye to this seemingly charming and laid back playboy. He is both a hunter, a politician, a brother, and a financial opportunist. He has been steering his family’s destiny so many years after his father’s absence and he does greatly and deeply resent him for it. He wishes for an Alizath free from all this petty squabbling but that requires more work that he’s not sure he’s willing to put in. He has a close relationship with Amarette Dinesh and there are many rumors surrounding the relationship between himself and their family witch, Mistral.

MR JAVAN ST. JORA (he/him) — The twin of Juven, though no one knows which of them is older. Unlike his brother Javan is more interested in the studious side of things versus the social and it’s thanks to Juven that he has been able to pursue his own interests. While it’s true neither of them is older or younger, Javan begrudgingly does feel like Juven is the elder brother for how he takes the responsibilities that could’ve been for either of them onto himself.

MISS NITHYA ST. JORA (she/her) — The youngest child of the St. Jora family and lacking in all desire for social cohesion.

COURT WITCH MISTRAL — the St. Jora’s witch and has a close relationship with Juven, to the point of slight possessiveness despite the rumors of him being a playboy. She can hear other’s thoughts but cannot speak her own, however the St. Jora’s have long developed a sign language system for communication with Mistral.

THE FLYKROST'S -> rulers of The Steel Winter

LORD OTTAR CALAROOK FLYKROST (he/him) — Laid back, yet deadly, the Flykrosts are known for their prowess in battle and Lord Ottar is no exception. The mind games of the other prominent noble families are something he finds tedious, however he isn’t one to jump the gun without a sure reason to. He wants what’s best for his family and values their health, safety, and happiness over any power he could have in Alizath.

LADY LOVE FLYKROST (she/her) — A warrior settled down to become a mother, still that has not sharpened her ferocity. She is a force to be reckoned with and some find her more terrifying to deal with than her husband. She dotes on her children and values her family—created or forged above all else.

MR CHERRY FLYKROST (he/him) — The eldest son who spurns the viscount title; he prefers to drink and relax and be entertained. He is a well spoken poet but tends to dislike alienating himself from others yet he hates when things are too serious.

MR HOLLIS FLYKROST (he/him — trans) — the younger son who seeks to be a great warrior like his parents. He is socially awkward and a bit brash and stern but he does mean well.

MISS GILLI FLYKROST (she/her) — Lady Love’s younger cousin brought into the family (as many suspect) to take the role of viscountess. She’s a brilliant strategist but prefers to be at leisure. She can be cutthroat and ruthless when pushed.

COURT WITCH RAGHNALL (he/him) — Witch of the Flykrost’s; he always knows if someone is lying or telling the truth however he can never tell a lie himself.

THE DINESH'S -> rulers of The Titanium Summer

LADY ELZBIA DINESH (she/her) — The matriarch of the Dinesh family after Lord Dinesh’s untimely death. Quite bitter over her current circumstances, she is desperate for a shift in power and pressures her eldest son to not only get married but take over the family so she can retire. She is very strict and cold towards her children and is not very nurturing.

VISCOUNT ARTEMI DINESH (he/him) — The elder of the Dinesh sons. He carries the viscount title by his mother’s pressure but he has no interest in leading the family. Despite the argument that his titles affords him the leisure he so enjoys, he constantly sneaks away from his duties to spend time with those of lower classes.

MR AMARETTE DINESH (he/him — gay) — His sexuality and lack of desire to produce heirs has soured his relationship with his mother to the point that they barely speak to one another. He has sought solace in hunting and is very close friends with Juven.

MISS RUZEN DINESH (she/her) — The bastard daughter of the late Lord Dinesh and the object of Elzbia’s bitter hatred, the end result of the affair that tore their marriage apart. As part of Lord Dinesh’s will and conditions for keeping The Titanium Summer it is required that Ruzen be provided for. She is meek yet she holds a quiet anger within her. She fears Lady Dinesh and she is distrusting of others.

COURT WITCH DAMEK (he/him) — the Dinesh witch with a fondness for Ruzen. He can strengthen others physically at the cost of his own health.

*there is going to be more characters than this but they'll come about as i actually start plotting. so there'll probably be a part 2 to this lol.

LMAOOOO NAUR that’s my bad. like i said i talked about this wip like once and never mentioned it again pfffff

but basically the information:

who is alizath

this fucky landmass up north. the smidge of yellow at the bottom is galeré, the country paramour’s mess takes place in cuz SURPRISE… these share a universe pff

what is alizath?

a hot mess basically. the government is run by “courts” or factions (perhaps cults… at least one of them kinda is) and there’s a central parliament that’s supposed to be the voice of the common people. like. it barely is but we move.

anyway tho there’s the iron spring, the titanium summer, the brass autumn, and the steel winter.

we mainly focus on the brass autumn bc the “dad” of our mc kirsi, used to be the ruler of the brass autumn but then he was framed for killing a guy and was exiled.

the story? well basically kirsi is supposed to bring favor back to her family by attending socialite events so that her father can be allowed back into alizath. also so that they can stop being horribly poor (they aren’t terribly bad off cuz they’re getting help but it’s complicated).

the real plot however is found as kirsi starts getting close to people and it becomes very apparent that the iron spring wants to become a sole monarchy. power struggles, romance, death, chaos, war, and more ensue!

but some basic important to know characters:

kirsi: she’s the mc. she’s also adopted (does not know this), part of a prophecy (definitely doesn’t know this), and isn’t fully human (kirsi knows jack shit about anything basically)

jeanna sunniva: she’s kirsi’s aunt who helped raise her for the purposes her brother has. she is strict but very protective over kirsi and her life has been Rough

juven: current leader of the brass autumn in his father’s stead. he’s also one of kirsi’s love interests (end game ot3 situation). he’s too young to be shackled with this shit but yknow. he’s here now. also he wants to keep alizath out of the hands of the spring and would rather it turn more into a republic or smthn.

amarette: juven’s best friend and from the titanium summer. his mama hates him teehee. he, juven and kirsi are end game ot3. he just wants to be able to live his life how he wants.

greye: eldest daughter of the iron spring who hates her father and is uh…. plotting lmao.🧍‍♂️

lord flykrost: the leader of the steel winter and tbh the only one with a head on his fucking shoulders. he values his family more than anything and is ready to turn the steel winter into its own nation at the drop of a hat to protect his family and the citizens who live in his region. very chill dude but he used to be the head of the general alizathan army so idk don’t fuck with him

lady love: lord flykrost’s wife and she’s scarier than him. she did settle down and loves those loyal to her fiercely. she and jeanna used to be good friends but why hmmm 🤔

and a bunch of other characters but yahhhhhhh

how did you get inspiration?

dude i used to love the app game helix waltz (it’s no longer a thing rip) and i wanted to make a story where i could romance my favorite character juven (i didn’t change juven’s first name but a lot about him otherwise has changed lol) sooooo this story got born out of that.

so yah i hope that’s a good overview pff

so about alizath...

tl;dr alizath is a northern country in the same world as paramour (paramour & all the gunn sibling stories just take place in galeré which is a country to the southeast, and map will exist sooner or later) but takes place AFTER all the events of empire, which is the last book in the fall of galeré (which is what the entire quad of books is gonna be called. in order it’s: paramour, requiem for the monochrome, prim & provocative, then empire). unlike paramour’s steampunk and modern wealth vibes, alizath is a colder region based more around magic and witches and the like but like paramour it’s still a scramble of messy families and nobility nonsense.

alizath is also heavily based on the app game helix waltz (with my own spin of course, rest in peace bc the game is no longer around tm) and a loose usage of the whole fae seasonal-court structure.

there are 4 prominent families that each rule a court of seasons, and other smaller noble families and peasants pledge allegiance to whichever family is heading that court in that region. over all of the families however and to instill a sense of “fairness” is the parliament of the people, which is made up of elected representatives that is supposed to keep these power hungry nobles in check. do it work tho? do it? (it don't tbh LMAO)

so, to simplify the plot/how we get here:

30 years ago, the Sunniva family's patriarch, Lord Biand Sunniva was abdicated from his position as lord of The Brass Autumn court. This was because he was determined to be responsible for the slaying of the Prime Minister of Alizath, and he accepted banishment instead of being tried for this crime. However, Lord Sunniva insists that he was framed by Lord Dominiq Ekber Atherton, the patriarch of The Iron Spring, who is well known for his bloodlust, political aggression, and determination to turn Alizath into a singular monarchy. Lord Sunniva goes to a Witch of the Wilds and receives a prophecy on how he can return to Alizath and get revenge on his rival.

His plan starts with receiving aid from the new lord of The Brass Autumn, Lord St. Jora, who has left his main position of power in Alizath in the hands of his eldest son Viscount Juven St. Jora (the main love interest) while he travels the world. He promises to help Lord Sunniva, however, he does not specify why he is willing to do so.

In accordance with this prophecy, Lord Sunniva adopts a young half-witch girl, naming her Kirsi Sunniva (our mc) and places her in the care of his sister Lady Jeanna Sunniva. Lady Jeanna teaches Kirsi everything she needs to know about how to navigate the social scene of Alizath to restore the good will to the Sunniva family name. She is kept in the dark about the nature of her birth (Kirsi assumes that she is Lord Sunniva's blood daughter) and what she is (Kirsi has no knowledge that she is a half-witch) and the true reasons behind what she's doing.

Kirsi and Lady Jeanna return to Alizath, with Lady Jeanna using the pseudonym Miss Annaje Ivannus and taking the role of Kirsi's governness, and Kirsi begins to slowly enter the social scene, with strict instructions to stay as far away from The Atherton's as possible. Her connections, friends, and potential suitors, and exposure to the underbelly of Alizath's political corruption, will teach her more than what any of them were prepared for.

so yeah das it. i have a full character list i can post in a few but i figured the overall plot should have its own lil space.

well since my last trick was a blorbo bingo about lord flykrost ig i can explain him 💀

lord flykrost or lord ottar calarook flykrost is the leader of the steel winter court of alizath. it’s lands are located towards the far northwest of alizath itself.

like the athertons of the iron spring, the flykrosts are a long storied family, and their ancient ancestors are believed to have had a hand in establishing alizath as a nation.

they are respected as a collective, and despite the harsh conditions, many of those who are serfs, nobles, or protected allies under the steel winter remark that the flykrosts are a very warm family. a lot of this reputation has come from lord flykrost himself. in general, the flykrosts are known to be the armed forces of alizath; lord flykrost himself an accomplished general and ruthless fighter however he is slow to provoke and values reasoning before swords are drawn. he’s a remarkably honest man, if a bit too honest sometimes. he cherishes the simple things in life, and is always willing to give the shirt off of his own back to help another, but this doesn’t mean he’s easy to sway or take advantage of. he is quite cold to those he doesn’t trust however if his loyalty is earned it is essentially a life bond.

he has a wife (lady love flykrost), two sons (cherry, the elder & hollis, the younger) as well as lady love’s niece (gilli) as apart of his main family unit, and he dotes on them greatly. neither of his sons are particularly interested in taking the reigns of the steel winter in his stead but he encourages their passions and interests. gilli was in part adopted into the family after her parents/lady love’s sister & her husband’s death because she is a good candidate to rule in his stead. he doesn’t doubt her prowess and treats her like his own daughter.

he becomes a powerful ally to kirsi and juven once she manages to melt his icy exterior and come into his good graces :’)

hello!! thank you for stopping by :3

and like kind of i think - in weird way? i love the barbie nutcracker movie (its the best barbie movie imo and anyone can fight me idc if i haven't actually watched it in like a decade, its the best one) and kirsi kind of reminds me of kelly/clara? not necessarily in the "i've been shrunk down from my original size and now i've been transported from my home to some wild land by a Fucking Rat" but in the sense that well. lemme just explain kirsi's backstory a bit.

so kirsi was adopted by lord sunniva when she was a young, young girl, probably around the age of 5-6? she doesn't remember much of her life before she was adopted by lord sunniva, and any time she tries to think of that time in her life all she remembers is fear and flames sooooo she tries not to think about it too much. she was taught by her aunt and lord sunniva's sister, lady jeanna, on how to be a proper lady and has been constantly told her whole life how she was So So vital to them being able to return to their ancestral home in alizath. how? well, she would have to enter the social scene as a proper lady and work to regain favor for her family. its a lot of pressure, and it makes me think how kelly in the movie (unrelated to clara but like tldr if youve never seen this barbie movie, barbie is telling the story of the nutcracker to kelly to inspire her to not give up on her ballet performance; so its basically a story within a story situation) is struggling with the pressure of putting on a perfect performance and that's very kirsi. she's so terrified that she'll do a terrible job, that she won't be able to regain favor for the sunniva's and then her father (who she barely sees mind you) will have adopted her for nothing. its a mess.

and then, when i think about juven i kind of think about the nutcracker in a way. not in the he was actually turned into a wooden boy by a curse, but in the fact that due to the position that his father literally dipping out of the picture and leaving him in charge of their entire court on his own, he's essentially "two" people. there's juven, the conniving and flirtatious head of the brass autumn, and then there's the juven who is taking on so many fucking burdens and can never truly explore who he wants to be because he has to deal with all of this shit. so in a way, his father has cursed him. and kirsi (along with amarette and other stuff) is one of the main things that helps juven really be able to be who he wants to be despite the bullshit.

so i think in a weird way, and bc its christmas time so i've kinda been thinking about the nutcracker (since its such a christmas movie/book/story thing) a lot so i was like, maybe i should kind of take some of those ideas and stir it into the inspirations for alizath lol.
