Enamoured Expectations|| Spencer Reid
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Spencer have been dating for a while (there isn’t a specific timeline in this story, so you could have been dating for as long as you want) and Penelope tells you a hunch she has.
Content: Established relationship. Use of Y/N and Y/L/N. This is all just fluff. Fem! reader.

You were truly and utterly deeply in love with Dr Spencer Reid. You knew if you hadn’t been friends with Penelope, you two may have never met, and even if you had, you doubt that Spencer would have even given you a second look. Spencer treats you like a princess, he texts you every chance he gets when he is on a case, he buys you flowers and books when you are feeling down, he orders your favourite food when you don’t feel like eating, he calls you beautiful when you are feeling ugly, and he always says “I love you” before going anywhere.

Whenever the team was away on a case, you would go hangout with Penny. She was your best friend after all. You would bring her lunch and let her rant about whatever case they were all working on at the moment. She would always bring up how Spencer couldn’t shut up about you and how amazing you are. Penny thought she was the best match maker to walk on this earth.

On one particular evening, you were hanging out with Penny at her apartment. Spencer was away on a case, but he had called earlier to say goodnight and tell you he loved you. It was sweet and made your heart flutter with joy. You and Penny were watching a movie and munching on popcorn when she suddenly turned to you.

"Y/N, I have something to tell you," Penny said, her eyes sparkling mischievously.

"What is it?" you asked, curious.

"I think Spencer is planning to propose to you," she said, grinning widely.

“What makes you say that?”

Penny leaned in closer, a conspiratorial glint in her eyes. "Well, he's been acting super secretive lately, and he's been asking me a lot of questions about what kind of engagement ring you might like. Plus, he's been talking about the future a lot and how he can't wait to spend the rest of his life with you."

You and Spencer had talked about marriage before, you’ve even talked about having children. You had been in love with the idea of been Mrs Reid, and the mother of his children after the first month of dating each other.

But hearing that Spencer might be planning to propose felt surreal. You felt like you were in a dream, and you didn't want to wake up. Your heart was pounding in your chest, and your hands were shaking with excitement.

"Penny, are you serious?" you asked, trying to contain your emotions.

"Dead serious," Penny replied, nodding her head. "I've never seen Spencer this happy before. I think he's finally ready to take the next step with you."

You felt a rush of warmth spread through your body, and you couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. You had been waiting for this moment for so long, and now it seemed like it was finally going to happen.

"I can't believe it," you said, still in shock. "I mean, I knew we were in love, but I didn't think he was ready for marriage yet."

“If you could hear how he talks about you, how he talks about his future with you, then you would understand that he most defiantly ready for marriage, and more.”

Penny's words hung in the air, and a smile slowly spread across your face as you felt a wave of happiness wash over you. You had always dreamed of spending your life with Spencer, and the thought of him proposing sent shivers down your spine. You could feel your heart racing as you thought about the moment when he would ask you to be his wife.

"Wow," you breathed, still trying to process the news. "I can't believe it. Do you really think he's going to propose?"

"I do," Penny said confidently. "And you know what that means, right?"

You raised an eyebrow at her, not sure where she was going with this.

"It means that you're going to have to start thinking about wedding planning," she said with a grin.

You laughed at her teasing tone, but inside, your mind was already racing with ideas. You had always loved the idea of a small, intimate wedding, surrounded by your closest friends and family.

*
Spencer had returned home from the case, he seemed down, it had obviously been a tough case. You hated seeing him like this.

You greeted him with a hug and a kiss, feeling happy to be in his arms again. As you both settled on the couch, you couldn't help but notice the sadness in his eyes. You reached for his hand, and he entwined his fingers with yours, holding on tight.

"Is everything okay, Spencer?" you asked, concerned.

He let out a sigh and shook his head. "It's just the case. It was a tough one, and I can't stop thinking about it."

“Is there any way I can help you? Do you need anything?”

“No. You just been here and been you is all the help I’ll ever need.”

You smiled at him, feeling grateful for his love and the comfort he always provided. You knew that talking about the case would help him, but you also knew that he needed some time to process everything on his own.

"Okay, well, if you need anything, just let me know," you said softly, pressing a kiss to his temple.

Spencer leaned his head on your shoulder, and you could feel his warm breath on your skin. You loved the way he fit perfectly against you, and you felt a deep sense of contentment wash over you.

"I missed you so much," he said, his voice muffled against your skin.

"I missed you too, Spencer," you replied, stroking his hair gently.

You loved him like this. He was open with you, he trusted you, and he was vulnerable with you. It made you feel like you had a special place in his heart, and that you were truly meant to be together. As you held him close, you knew that you would do anything to make him happy, and that included saying yes to his proposal.

Suddenly, Spencer sat up and turned to face you. "Y/N, there's something I need to ask you," he said, his eyes shining with intensity.

Your heart skipped a beat as you looked into his eyes. You could see the love and affection he had for you, and you knew that this was the moment you had been waiting for.

"What is it?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.

Spencer took a deep breath and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small velvet box and handed it to you, his hands shaking slightly.

"Y/N, I love you with all my heart. You make me happier than I ever thought was possible, and I can't imagine spending my life with anyone else. And I imagined I would do this in a different place, at a different time. But you’ve made it impossible for me to wait any longer. Miss Y/N Y/L/N will you marry me?”

You felt a rush of emotion flood through you as you looked at the small box in your hand. You opened it to reveal a stunning diamond ring, sparkling in the light. Tears pricked at the corner of your eyes as you realized that this was it. The moment you had been waiting for.

"Yes, Spencer," you said, your voice quivering with excitement. "Yes, I will marry you."

Spencer's face broke into a wide grin, and he pulled you into his arms. You could feel his heart beating against your chest, and you knew that this was where you were meant to be. Together, forever, and always.

As you both sat there, holding each other tightly, you couldn't help but feel grateful for the love you shared. You knew that this was just the beginning of your journey together, and that there would be many more ups and downs along the way. But with Spencer by your side, you truly didn’t care.

The rest of the night was a blur of emotions and excitement. You called your parents, and Spencer called his mom, to share the good news. You of course called Penny, while Spencer informed everyone else on his team. Everyone was thrilled for you both. You couldn't stop staring at the ring on your finger, feeling like the luckiest woman in the world.

This, this was it. Life was only going to get better from here. The world had brought you two together (the world basically been Penny) and you could not be more grateful. Nothing from your past, or his, mattered now. You two had a future together, a future where you would share the same name, and become a family. He was your great love, and you were his.

•TV show: "Criminal minds".
•Content warnings: Mentions of war and the character's grandson fighting in it, the possibility of him having been killed in action and his parents' grief because of it, also caused by the fact that he is their only child, a President's assassination, a presumed suicide having happened that same day, the possibility of that death having been a murder and a witness coming forward to talk about it after fourty years.
•This fanfiction is a History AU inspired by my favourite episode of the TV show "Cold case", "Boy crazy".
•For the sake of the story, the members of the team are all around the same age, they don't have the same age differences as they do in the actual show. Most of them are also just friends and (for a part of the story) schoolmates, not co-workers, and none of them works for the FBI or even the police or anything like that.
•None of the member of the team lived in Washington either when they were young. In 2003, the most recent year the story takes place in, they are all scattered around the United States, but most of them (not David) were born and raised in Lancaster City (Pennsylvania). You will understand why I made this decision as you read the story. And no one is the same age as they were in the actual show, also for the sake of the story.
•And yes, I made Erin and Rossi a married couple with all their children alive, making her three children his too and his two kids hers too, to avoid all that mess with David's divorces and all that.
•Spencer will be 12 years old and in his first year of high school because he is a genius and skipped some grades, but just two, not as many as he did in the series. I couldn’t bring myself to make him a 9-year-old in highschool maybe. Sorry.
•The quote I put as the opening for this story is from a movie I like, "Sarah's key", so it obviously doesn't belong to me.
•The story's title, instead, is similar to the one I found in a titles-themed Wattpad story. I asked for permission from the story's author to use it, though.

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 1: New information on an old case
"Sometimes, our own stories are the ones we can never tell. But when a story is not told, it becomes something else: it becomes forgotten".
-------------------------------------------------------
When they were woken up by the sound of David's phone ringing at 6 am on June 12, 2003, the first thing both 80-year-old David Rossi and his 78-year-old wife Erin thought of was their 23-year-old grandson Samuel, who was a soldier and fighting in Iraq at that moment.
Had he been killed?
If he had, they needed to answer the phone and maybe even go to their daughter Nancy and son-in-law Michael's house immediately.
Even for Dave and Erin, who had five kids, the mere thought of losing one of them was heart-shattering, but if Samuel had actually passed away, Michael and Nancy would have to bury their only child.
The pain of that would have been unbearable and they had to be there and support them.
Fortunately, however, when David grabbed his phone and looked at the display, he didn't see their daughter or son-in-law's name on it.
Instead, there was an unknown number, and while the man would have usually rejected a call like that, something inside him told him that one was important, so he got out of bed as quickly as he could and left the room to answer.
And about ten minutes later, he walked back into his bedroom with a huge smile on his face.
"Who was it? What's going on?" Erin, who had gotten out of bed too by that time, immediately questioned.
"It was a man named Matthew Benton. He asked if he could meet me at a bar in our city tomorrow. He apparently has new information on the death of Emily Prentiss. Obviously, I said yes. We are meeting at 3 pm tomorrow" her husband replied, feeling and sounding more excited than he had been in a pretty long time.
"Who?" Erin asked at first, but a few seconds later, she remembered.
"Oh, yes, that 18-year-old girl who committed suicide in Pennsylvania on the day President Kennedy died! I remember now. You were obsessed with that case for weeks right after it happened" the woman added, feeling even more interested in that conversation by then.
Even after fourty years, she still remembered that case almost perfectly, but most importantly, she was certain she already knew what her husband was thinking at that moment.
"You already know I don't think it was a suicide, Honey. I never thought it was, and maybe tomorrow I'll find out I am right" Dave explained, already feeling sure he would have discovered he had been right all along the next day.
"And then what? Even if your theory was correct, you are not a policeman, David, just a crime writer, and you haven't written anything in fifteen years" Erin retorted, not to tear the man down, but to bring him back to reality in her opinion.
"And then I'll tell the police what I discovered, that poor girl will finally have the justice she deserves and her mother and son will get to know the truth about how she died" Dave responded, and at that, all his wife could do was smile.
When David put his mind to something, there was no stopping him from achieving it, and while that had caused even heated arguments between them several times in their fifty-eight years of marriage, that day Erin felt extremely proud of him because of it.
Whatever had happened to Emily Prentiss on November 22, 1963, her husband would have soon discovered it.
She had no doubt about that.

You were my everything| Spencer Reid
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader finds out JJ admitted that she loves Spencer. Just angst with some fluff involved. I think its GN, there might be some pronouns mentioned but I tried my best not too.
Masterlist || requests are open | Navigation
Dr Spencer Reid was your everything, you loved him, and he loved you. But then him and JJ got taken hostage.
He was honest with you from the get-go, he used to have feelings for her, but he moved on.
But then she admitted she loved him, and she always had. Why the fuck would she say that she has children and a husband, but she says this to your boyfriend. You had talked to her about your relationship with him and she always seemed so supportive.
You were so mad at both of them, you hated having to look at them, having to see them talk with each other, laughing with one another. You hated both of them.
You tried your best to be civil, but every time you saw them together, your blood would boil. You didn't trust JJ and you didn't trust Spencer around her.

One day, as you were walking to your car after work, you saw JJ and Spencer walking together. They were laughing and joking like they didn't have a care in the world. You felt a searing anger build up inside of you as you watched them. You couldn't take it anymore.

You marched up to them and confronted them. "How can you two be so goddamn happy together after what she did?!" you yelled at Spencer. "She admitted she loves you, but she has a husband and kids! Did you even think about how that would make me feel?!"

Spencer looked at you with a pained expression. "I know, I'm sorry," he said softly. "I didn't know how to handle it. I love you; I swear. But I also care about JJ.”

“No. You don’t just care about JJ, you love her. You are fucking in love her because she said she loved you.” You spat at him. You then turned you attention to JJ.

“And you. I trusted you as a friend, I talked to you about everything, and you admit to my boyfriend that you love him.” You paused to look at them, they were both looking at their feet.

“You both lied to me and went behind my back. I hope you’re happy JJ. And Spencer, I’m glad the girl you love, finally loves you back.”

You turned away from them and walked into Hotch’s office. He could tell you were mad, no one else knew what had happened.

“Y/N are you okay?” He looked concerned; his voice though had not changed.

“I would like to take some leave. Spencer and JJ, they love each other, and I can’t be in the same room as them right now.” You tried to sound calm, to sound like you weren’t on the verge of tears.

Hotch looked at you for a moment before nodding. "Of course, take whatever time you need. Do you want to talk about it?" he asked, his voice full of concern and worry. You looked at Hotch like a father.

You shook your head. "No, I just need some time to...process everything," you said, your voice breaking slightly.

Hotch gave you a small smile and reached out to pat your hand. "Take all the time you need, Y/N. We'll be here when you're ready to come back," he said, before turning back to his work.

You walked out of the BAU building, tears streaming down your face. You had lost the two people you cared about most in the world, and you didn't know how you were going to move on.

As you drove away, you felt a searing pain in your chest. You loved Spencer more than anything, but you couldn't be with him if he still had feelings for JJ.

For the next few days, you stayed locked up in your apartment, not wanting to see or talk to anyone. You ignored all of Spencer's calls and texts, not wanting to hear his excuses or apologies. You were hurt and angry, and you didn't know if you could ever trust him again.

You wished he was a simple man to hate, so that you could turn off the love for him. But he wasn't a simple man. He was complex, with layers of intelligence, kindness, and love that you had fallen for. You couldn't just turn off your feelings for him no matter how much he had hurt you.

After a week of wallowing in your own misery, you decided that you needed to confront Spencer and JJ. You couldn't keep avoiding them forever, and you needed to know the truth about what was really going on between them.

You arranged to meet Spencer at a nearby coffee shop. As you sat across from him, you noticed how tired and defeated he looked. You wondered if he had been feeling as miserable as you had been.

"Spencer, I need to know the truth," you said, looking him straight in the eyes. "Are you still in love with JJ?"

Spencer took a deep breath before answering. "No, Y/N. I'm not in love with JJ. I thought I was for a while, but no I’m not. It’s you. You’re my everything. You were my everything and you will continue to be my everything.”

You felt a glimmer of hope inside of you at his words. Maybe there was a chance for your relationship after all.

“So why did you ignore me at work? Why did you hang with her so much and why did you stop kissing me or telling me that you loved me?”

Spencer looked down at his hands, a guilty expression on his face. "I didn't mean to ignore you, Y/N. I was just so confused and didn't know how to handle my feelings. I was afraid of losing both you and JJ, and I didn't want to hurt anyone. But I know now that what I have with you is real, and I don't want to lose you."

You studied Spencer's face for a moment, trying to gauge his sincerity. Despite your anger and hurt, you still loved him and wanted to believe him. "Okay," you said finally, nodding your head. "But what about JJ? What's going on between the two of you?"

He looked you in the eyes and reached for your hands. “Nothing is going on between. I promise. There was a gun pointed to my head and the guy asked for her to admit a secret, a secret nobody knew, and that was her secret.”

You listened carefully to Spencer's words, trying to process everything he was telling you. It was hard to believe that JJ's admission of love had been coerced, but you wanted to believe Spencer's version of events.

Spencer squeezed your hands tightly. "I know I messed up, Y/N. But please, give me another chance. I love you and I want to make things right."

You looked into his pleading eyes and felt your heart soften. Despite everything that had happened, you still loved Spencer with all your heart.

“Spencer, I still need space. I can’t just ignore how you treated me and how you acted around her.”

Spencer nodded understandingly. "I know, and I'll do whatever it takes to make it up to you. I just want to show you how much you mean to me."

Mind games~Spencer Reid
Tumblr media
Chapter three~ nothing’s new
Chapter summary: The FBI gives you time off, allowing you time to heal after what happened to you. But after news spreads, someone from your past contacts you, making old wounds resurface, making you turn to none other than Spencer Reid.
Chapter warnings: Talks about the BDSM community and BDSM dynamics. Talks of fainting. Submissive reader and dominant Spencer. Alcohol consumption. Mentions of what happened to you in the previous chapter but nothing serious. Reader cries but Spencer comforts her. Mentions of emotional wounds from previous relationships.
A/N: I might start releasing these every week instead of every other week, but I am not sure. I also hope this is a good description of what BDSM and specifically D/S relationships are like, I know that community gets a lot of really bad stories written about them.

Everyone on the team had been looking after you, making sure you were okay. Spencer, however, had been a godsend. He would send you texts throughout the day, even though the man hated technology. He had opened up to you about what he had been through, maybe in hopes of you opening up, or maybe he just wanted to show you he knew how you were feeling. But you didn’t really care, you were just happy that he was no longer horrible towards you.

You did want to open to Spencer, to everyone, and let them know what you had seen, but you just couldn’t. And the fact that people from academy had been texting you, telling you they had heard what happened and that they couldn’t imagine how you felt, just made it worse.
It had also made it back to your ex-boyfriend, who after 1 and a half years of ignoring your texts, had decided to call you. Part of you wanted to ignore the call, to push away any connection to the past. But another part of you was curious about what he had to say after all this time.

Taking a deep breath, you answered the call. His voice sounded distant and strained as he spoke, "Hey... I heard about what happened. I'm so sorry."

The sincerity in his tone surprised you, and for a moment, you were reminded of why you had loved him in the first place. But then reality set in, reminding you of the pain and heartbreak he had caused.

"I appreciate your sympathy," you replied coolly, trying to maintain a sense of composure. "But I'm doing my best to move forward."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and you could almost hear him searching for the right words.

"I understand if you don't want to hear from me anymore," he finally said, his voice filled with regret. "I just wanted you to know that I've changed. I've done a lot of soul-searching and therapy since we broke up. I wish I could have been there for you when you needed me."

Your grip on the phone tightened as his words struck a chord within you. The longing for closure and understanding warred with the pain and bitterness that still lingered from your past.

"It's too late now," you replied, your voice laced with a mixture of anger and sadness. "You had your chance, and you blew it."

There was silence on the other end, and you could almost picture him taking in a deep breath before speaking again.

"You're right," he said quietly. "I don't deserve your forgiveness. But I hope that someday, maybe, you can find it in your heart to let go of the hurt I caused."

Tears welled up in your eyes as his words hit you like a wave crashing onto the shore. The pain of his betrayal resurfaced, threatening to engulf you once again. Part of you wanted to believe in his sincerity, to believe that people could change. But another part of you feared being hurt all over again.

"I don't know if I can ever forgive you," you managed to say, your voice trembling with emotion. You didn’t care what he had to say anymore, so you just hung up.

You couldn’t hold back any more and you just began to sob. You picked up your phone and decided to call Spencer, it probably would have been smarter to call one of the girls, Spencer wasn’t the only one who understood what you had gone through, but Spencer was the only one who could truly understand you.

As the phone rang, your tears continued to flow, blurring your vision and making it difficult to see. The weight of your emotions felt like an anchor dragging you down into a sea of despair. Each ring seemed to echo in the cavernous void of loneliness that had enveloped you.

Finally, Spencer's voice broke through the haze of your anguish. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, his tone filled with concern.

You tried to steady your voice, but it came out choked with sobs. "Spencer," you managed to utter between gasps for air. "I... I need you."

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and then Spencer's voice softened with understanding. "I'm here for you," he said gently. "Take all the time you need, and when you're ready, I'll be right by your side."

“I’m ready now Spencer, please.” In that moment, you could hear the urgency in your own voice, the desperation for comfort and solace. The pain of your past relationship had resurfaced, triggering a deep yearning for someone who truly understood you. And Spencer, with his unwavering support and compassion, was the only person who could provide that.

Silence lingered on the other end of the line, and you wondered if perhaps you had overwhelmed him with your sudden vulnerability. But just as doubt began to creep in, Spencer's voice filled the void once again.

"I'm on my way," he said firmly, his words laced with determination. "Stay where you are. I'll be there as soon as I can."

Relief washed over you like a gentle tide, easing some of the turmoil in your heart. You trusted Spencer implicitly; his presence was a balm to your wounded soul.

Spencer rushed into Hotch’s office, telling him that you needed someone with you right now, and that he will be back to work as soon as he can be.

And Spencer, a man who was always true to his word, was at your door within 20 minutes.

You opened the door, your tear-streaked face betraying the pain you had been holding inside. Spencer took one look at you and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into a comforting embrace. The warmth of his touch, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat against your chest, brought a sense of security that you hadn't felt in a long time.

"I'm here," he whispered softly into your ear, his voice filled with genuine concern. "You're not alone anymore."

You clung to him, seeking solace in his presence, as he led you to the couch and sat down beside you. “You don't have to face this pain by yourself”, his voice was calming, “everyone on the team loves you, they all would be here in a heartbeat for you. I mean they are discussing what to get you for when you come back to work.”

You let out a weak laugh, the first sign of a smile since the whole ordeal began. It was comforting to know that you had a support system, a group of people who truly cared about you.

"Thank you," you whispered, your voice barely audible. "I don't know where I would be without all of you."

Spencer's grip on your hand tightened, his eyes filled with genuine compassion. "You're stronger than you think," he assured you softly. "And we'll be right here with you every step of the way."

In that moment, as you sat there with Spencer by your side, you felt a glimmer of hope. The pain and heartache were still present, but now they were tempered by the love and support surrounding you.

“Would you like to talk about what happened, or is there something else on your mind?”

You hesitated for a moment, unsure if you were ready to relive the details of the past, but then you realized that Spencer was right. It was time to face what had happened and start the healing process.

Taking a deep breath, you began to share your story. The words tumbled out, sometimes in a rush, other times choked with emotion. Spencer listened attentively, never interrupting or judging. He offered gentle words of encouragement, his presence a constant reminder that you were not alone.

As you recounted the painful memories, it felt like a weight was being lifted off your shoulders. Each word spoken was an act of defiance against the pain that had consumed you for so long. And with each passing minute, you felt a little bit stronger.

When you finally finished, there was a silence that hung in the air, as if the weight of your story needed a moment to settle in. Spencer broke the stillness with a soft sigh.

"I'm so sorry," he said sincerely, “you should never have had to have gone through that. He will rot in prison. And that ex of yours, he did not deserve you.”

You nodded, grateful for Spencer's unwavering support and understanding. His words were like a soothing balm to your wounded soul, validating the pain you had endured. Your heart ached with the realization that you had been in a toxic relationship, but knowing that you were no longer alone gave you the strength to move forward.

"Thank you, Spencer," you whispered, tears brimming in your eyes once again. "I don't know how I would have made it through this without you."

Spencer's gaze softened, his hand gently wiping away your tears. "You don't have to thank me," he said softly. "Being there for you is what friends do. We look out for each other."

The word "friends" lingered in the air, and you couldn't help but wonder if there was something more between you and Spencer. The connection you shared felt deeper than mere friendship, but you were both still healing from past wounds. It was too soon to explore those feelings, and not long ago, Spencer had shown his dislike for you.

*

After about two weeks, you were back in the bullpen. Garcia had decorated your desk, telling you that this always make her feel better and she thought it would do the same to you, JJ and Emily informed you on all the gossip you had missed, Hotch had gone full dad mode on you, making sure you were okay, Rossi had invited you over to his for a private cooking lesson, Morgan had told you all the pranks he had pulled on Spencer. Spencer on the other hand seemed to keep his distance, he had smiled at you, but ever since that day he had come over something seemed to have changed.

You couldn't put your finger on it, but there was a palpable shift in the dynamics between you and Spencer. He was still kind and supportive, but there was a subtle hesitancy in his interactions with you. It was as if he was holding back, as if there were unresolved emotions swirling beneath the surface.

You desperately wanted to address it, to talk to Spencer about what had transpired between you, but you feared that doing so might jeopardize the fragile bond you had built. What if he didn't feel the same way? What if he saw you as nothing more than a friend and confidant?

You pushed those thoughts aside, focusing on the work at hand. The team had a new case, one that required their full attention. As you discussed the details with your teammates, you noticed Spencer's gaze linger on you for a moment longer than necessary. It was a fleeting look, but enough to make your heart skip a beat.

Throughout the day, you found yourself stealing glances at Spencer whenever you could. There was an undeniable chemistry between the two of you, a connection that had grown stronger during your time of need. But you both had been through so much already, and neither of you wanted to rush into anything without being sure.

As the case progressed, Spencer's presence beside you became more prominent. He would stand just a little too close, his hand brushing against yours as he passed you a file or offered his insights. It was subtle, but it spoke volumes about what he was feeling.

Even JJ had commented on it, asking if something was going on between the two of you, but you assured her nothing was going on. But the truth was, you weren't quite sure how to define whatever it was that was happening between you and Spencer.

*

After the case was over, the team decided to go out for celebratory drinks. This was the first time you had gone out since what had happened to you. You were sat in-between JJ and Garcia, they were both talking about their funniest sex stories and you couldn't help but laugh along with them, grateful for the distraction from your own thoughts. Across the table, Spencer was engaged in a lively conversation with Rossi and Morgan, his laughter ringing out in the crowded bar.

You don’t know what compelled you, but you decided to share yours, and you were almost certain Spencer couldn’t hear you.

“If you want to mine”, you paused, allowing the girls to give you their full attention, “I told my ex that I was into BDSM and he thought that just meant me calling him daddy. So, when I told him what I was really into, he nearly fainted. It was definitely an interesting and eye-opening experience." The girls burst into laughter, their faces turning red from the combination of alcohol and amusement.

The sound caught Spencer's attention, his ears perking up as he turned his head towards you. His eyes locked with yours, and you could've sworn there was a flicker of interest in them.

"Wait, what did I miss?" he asked, leaning closer to catch the tail end of the conversation.

You felt a blush rise to your cheeks as you glanced at the girls. JJ nudged you playfully, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

"Oh, Y/N's just regaling us with her kinky adventures," Garcia chimed in with a teasing smirk.

Spencer raised an eyebrow, a mix of curiosity and surprise evident on his face. "Is that so?" he asked, trying to hide a smile.

You shifted in your seat, feeling a mix of embarrassment and anticipation. The playful conversation seemed to have opened a door, allowing for a light-hearted connection between you and Spencer. You took a deep breath, deciding to seize the moment.

"Yeah, well, it was definitely an experience," you replied, matching his playful tone. "But let's just say, I've learned my lesson about dating vanilla guys."

Spencer chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well, I can assure you, I'm far from vanilla," he said, a hint of mischief in his voice.

JJ and Garcia exchanged knowing glances, silently urging you to take the plunge. They had seen the connection between you and Spencer long before either of you had acknowledged it, and they were more than ready to play matchmakers.

"So," Garcia interjected with a sly grin, "are we going to sit here and talk about kinks all night, or are you two going to finally address the elephant in the room?"

“I-erm what elephant?” you asked, there was hint of confusion in your voice.

“Oh, come on.” JJ stated “Even when Spencer hated you, he couldn’t take his eyes of you.”

Spencer's cheeks flushed slightly, his gaze shifting nervously between you and JJ. You could see the internal battle raging within him, the fear of rejection warring with his desire for something more.

Finally, Spencer took a deep breath and mustered up the courage to speak. "I... I have to admit," he began, his voice barely above a whisper. "Even when I claimed to dislike you, I couldn't deny the pull I felt towards you. You're intelligent, compassionate, and..." He trailed off, his eyes searching yours for any sign of reciprocation.

A warm smile spread across your face as you reached across the table, gently placing your hand on top of Spencer's. "And what?" you prompted softly.

He let out a shaky laugh, his fingers intertwining with yours. "And beautiful," he finished, his voice filled with sincerity.

JJ and Garcia exchanged triumphant glances as their matchmaking efforts paid off.

“You know, I think it’s time you two go home, so you can discuss this somewhere Hotch can’t hear you.” Emily said in a hushed tone.

You and Spencer laughed, realizing that your friends were right. It was time to have a more private conversation about the growing feelings between you. As the night came to an end, you and Spencer found yourselves outside the bar, away from prying ears.

The air was crisp, a gentle breeze rustling through the trees. You leaned against the side of the building, facing Spencer who stood only a few feet away. There was a comfortable silence between you as you both took a moment to collect your thoughts.

Finally, Spencer spoke up, his voice filled with vulnerability. "I never meant to push you away before. I was scared...scared of opening myself up to someone, scared of getting hurt. But seeing what you went through, how strong you were...it made me realize how much I care about you."

Your heart swelled at his words, grateful for his honesty. "Spencer, I understand why you acted the way you did. We've all been hurt before, and we all have our own ways of protecting ourselves," you replied softly. "But I want you to know that I care about you too, and I'm willing to take the risk if it means we can be together."

Spencer's eyes met yours, filled with a mix of relief and hope. "You would really give us a chance?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

A gentle smile tugged at your lips as you stepped closer to him. "Yes, Spencer, I would. I would give us a chance," you confirmed, your voice filled with certainty. "Because the truth is, Spencer, I've been falling for you ever since the first case I worked.”

Spencer's eyes widened, surprise mingling with joy. "Really? Even when I was being an insufferable jerk?"

You chuckled softly. "Especially then," you admitted. “But I do have to know what you mean when you say your far from vanilla.”

Spencer blushed, his cheeks turning a shade of crimson. "Well," he stammered, "I've always had a... deep fascination with role-playing scenarios and exploring different power dynamics." He paused, his gaze searching yours for any sign of judgment or discomfort. “And I can say I enjoy being the dominant one more.”

“Is that so? What have been your favourite scene you’ve done so far?”

Spencer cleared his throat, a bashful smile playing on his lips. "Well, one of my favourite scenes involved a classic teacher-student dynamic," he confessed, his voice laced with excitement. "I got to play the strict professor, and she was my eager and naughty student."

Your eyebrows raised in surprise and curiosity. "Oh? And how did that play out?"

He chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "Let's just say there were some detentions and extra credit assignments involved," he replied coyly. "It was all about the power play and the thrill of breaking the rules within the safety of our consensual role-playing."

He then once again looked to see if you were unconformable. “What about you? What do you enjoy.” He asked.
“I, erm- well I enjoy being the submissive one. I was in a dynamic relationship with someone, and they gave me a necklace to wear, to show I belonged to them. They used to tell me what outfits I could wear when going out.”

Spencer's eyebrows furrowed, his expression a mix of concern and curiosity. "Did you enjoy the feeling of submission, or was it more about the trust and surrender that came with it?" he asked gently, his voice filled with genuine interest.

You took a moment to consider his question before answering honestly. "It was a combination of both," you replied, your voice soft but unwavering. "There was something incredibly liberating about giving up control and trusting someone else to take care of me. It allowed me to let go of my responsibilities and just be in the moment."

Spencer nodded, a thoughtful look on his face as he took in your words. "I understand," he said quietly. "The power dynamics in BDSM can be incredibly nuanced and fulfilling when both parties are open and communicative about their desires and boundaries."

"Would you ever consider exploring that dynamic with me?" you asked cautiously, searching his face for any sign of hesitation. “I mean, I would still be the submissive one.”

Spencer’s eyes softened, filled with warmth and reassurance. He reached out to gently cup your cheek, his touch sending a shiver of anticipation down your spine. "I would be honoured to explore that dynamic with you," he replied softly. "But only if we establish clear boundaries, practice open communication, and ensure that both of our needs are met."

You smiled, relieved by his understanding and respect for the importance of consent and communication in such exploration. "I couldn't agree more," you murmured, leaning into his touch. "We'll take it slow, step by step, and create a safe space for both of us to express ourselves."

Quiet baby, the others will hear
We're in public, you know
The only way you're getting off is on my thigh

I'm not jealous! It's just... you're mine
Don't fucking touch what is not yours
I'll just have to cum inside you them

Note
this isn’t a request but do you just love breaking my heart cus every fic ive read of yours with angst idk why i expect there to be a happy ending even when it says there’s not but damn your angst is amazing it sends me through the five stages of grief in about 2 seconds so i thank you for your service 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’m a lover of heartbreaking stories, what can I say. There will be some with happy endings(I promise). But I kind of love when things don’t end perfectly, or how we would like them to end if that makes sense. I love a good happy ending too, but I also like when stories make me feel upset and heartbroken for the characters/reader.
But I am so glad you’re enjoying them, I promise they won’t all break your heart but the majority will(I am kind of sorry about that). 💚💚

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 3: A troubled girl
First thing after that meeting, also thanks to Matthew, who had told him where the woman was living, the next day, David took a plane to visit Elizabeth Prentiss, Emily's now 82-year-old mother, at Plush Mills Senior Living in Philadelphia, a complex of small apartments for seniors who could no longer live on their own.
There, they were cared for by nurses, but they could also still have some of the independence they had always been used to.
"Elizabeth Prentiss?" Dave called as he entered the common room of the complex, where a group of elderly people, three men and two women, were sitting around a table.
"It's me" a gray-haired, not very tall woman wearing a long black dress replied, standing up and walking towards him.
"I'm David Rossi, a former crime writer" the man introduced himself, then he almost immediately got to the point "I have a few questions to ask you about a murder".
"A murder?!?" Elizabeth exclaimed, clearly concerned "What happened?".
"I think it would be better to talk about it in private" David replied, and when she nodded, the two left the room together.
"I decided to look into your daughter's case" the man then explained to her "I know I'm not a policeman, but the only witness contacted me and gave me some new information on the subject".
"I don't understand. Why after all these years? And also, Emily committed suicide" Elizabeth retorted, obviously confused.
She too, like most people in 1963, had believed the police's statements about that case, and perhaps it had also been her pain that had prevented her from asking further questions about that matter.
"From what I know, Emily had a lot of problems. At least, that's what a former schoolmate of hers, the witness I just told you about, told me" David then tried to tell her, hoping Elizabeth would have told him useful to his investigation.
"Well, she lost her father when she was 3 years old and after his death, I raised her all by myself. I did my best, but Emily and I never had the same kind of relationship she used to have with her dad" the woman explained.
"Your daughter dressed and acted like a boy, right?" the writer then asked her.
As a response, Elizabeth nodded.
"Before my husband's death, and for some time even after it, she imitated everything he did. She dressed like a boy, she only hung out with boys even at school. But it was when she was 13 that the real problems began" she then explained to him.
"What kind of problems?" David then questioned.
"She didn't listen to her teachers, skipped school, fought with her classmates. She wasn't expelled from school just because I donated money to the institution every year in high school. Believe me, those years weren't easy, neither for me nor for her" Elizabeth said.
"Excuse these questions, but how far did Emily's unconventional behaviors go? Did your daughter prefer to be with other girls on a romantic level?" Dave ventured, praying that the woman wouldn't close up after questions like that about her daughter.
"Oh, no! She had a boyfriend, Ian Doyle. And in December of 1960, she got pregnant by him. Declan was born on September 4 of the next year and for Emily, that little boy was her greatest joy" Elizabeth replied, smiling for the first time since he had met her "My grandson is 42 years old now and I raised him after my daughter's death. He comes to visit me once a week".
"I see. And can you think of anyone who hated Emily, by any chance?" David then asked her.
"I must admit that she didn't have many friends. Only Derek Morgan, Spencer Reid, Penelope Garcia and Jennifer Jareau. And she also often had contact with Aaron Hotchner and Elle Greenaway at school, but those interactions were a lot less pleasant" Elizabeth responded, and after thanking her for all she had told him, Dave said goodbye to the woman and left.
Thanks to Elizabeth Prentiss, he now knew how to solve that case.
He had to look for the people Emily's mother had just spoken to him about.
He didn't really know why, but he strongly felt one of them would have been the key to solving this case.
Elizabeth, instead, has just been brought back by her mind to her first meeting with Aaron Hotchner.
It was something she would have much preferred to forget, but she knew that apparently insignificant moment would have never left her memories.

•TV show: "Criminal minds".
•Content warnings: A book about a 40-year-old murder case being published and presented in a theater, an elderly woman being severely ill and dying after she found out who murdered her daughter and joining her late daughter and husband in Heaven (her daughter even coming to get her to take her to Heaven) and the man who made the investigation about the girl's case possible having passed away before he could see the book about it be published.
•What happens in this chapter is inspired by "Boy crazy"'s ending, which is one of my favourite parts of the episode. Here's the link to it: https://youtu.be/7h55JaUYuqc?si=eo4SkPLkSkOig50G .
•I don't really know what a book's presentation is like, so I kind of took inspiration from the last chapter of the fanfiction "Little talks" on fanfiction.net, and also made some things up.
•JJ is there because thanks to Emily's mother, she was pardoned and didn't go to jail for her crime. I couldn't mention it in the chapter.
•As you know, I'm a religious Catholic, and in this chapter I've basically described Heaven. If you don't believe it exists, that's fine, but don't make fun of it, please.
•Thank you very much to my friend @lex13cm for suggesting to me to use the story's title for David's book too. It was a very good idea.
•The story's final quote is from the movie "Sarah's key", just like the opening one. It is its closing quote.

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 22: Finally at peace
On June 12, 2004, exactly one year after Matthew's phone call to David, which had made the writer's investigation about Emily's case begin, a very important event occurred at John W. Engeman Theater, in Long Island.
It was the presentation of the last book Dave would have published in his life.
It was entitled "The bridge to Heaven", and what it talked about were the last weeks of Emily's life as told by her mother, former boyfriend, friends and acquaintances.
But it also included David's investigation about her death, and was dedicated to Emily herself, but also to Matthew, who had died on December 9, 2003, before being able to see the book his extremely brave choice had allowed Dave to write be published.
Aaron, Derek, Elle, Jennifer, Penelope and Spencer, along with their families, were there, though, and of course Declan, his grandmother and his wife and daughter had come too.
And then, in addition the majority of David's relatives, Pauline Leonard was there as well.
The woman had remained unsure whether to go or not almost until last minute, but then she had chosen to do it not only for Emily, but also because in a way, she felt like she owed it to her sister Abigail.
"If at the beginning of last year, someone had told me that I would have soon discovered and brought to light a fourty-year-old secret, I almost certainly wouldn't have believed them" David began talking, starting the presentation, after getting on the stage and inviting Aaron, Derek, Elle, Spencer, Jennifer and Penelope to join him "It happened, though, and if we are gathered here tonight, it is also and above all thanks to the men and women who are now on stage behind me, as well as Emily's mother and former boyfriend, former nurse Pauline Leonard and Matthew Benton, who can't be here today, but whose decision allowed me to give Emily the justice she deserved. So, first of all, I have to thank them for what they were courageous enough to do".
At the end of his short speech, everyone in the room clapped, then, taking turns, first David, then each of Emily's former schoolmates told a little part of that story.
They didn't say much, so as not to spoil too much of the book, but listening to their speeches, Elizabeth was still deeply moved.
As Emily's former friends and acquaintances spoke, however, a strange thing happened to Emily's mother.
For a few seconds, as each of them gave a brief speech, she seemed to see the teenagers they were when Emily was part of their lives in them again.
It didn't last long and the woman was aware that it couldn't really have been happening, but at that moment, it still seemed so real to her.
What happened next, however, was even more emotional for Elizabeth.
Suddenly, while Jennifer, the last person to speak, was talking, she thought she saw her daughter on stage with David and her former schoolmates.
Emily was wearing a white shirt and pants of that same colour, but, most importantly, she was smiling, something she hadn't done often in the last few weeks of her life.
She seemed happier than she had been in at least the last three years of her life, and she almost immediately spotted her mother in the crowd and waved to her.
"My little girl" Elizabeth couldn't stop herself from whispering with tears in her eyes "You just couldn't not be here today, right, Emily?"
"I'm okay now, Mama" Emily told her a few seconds later, moving closer to her, then disappearing.
Elizabeth didn't know for sure if what she had just seen was real, she couldn't know that, but deep down, she felt like it was.
Wherever she was at the moment, her beloved daughter was now at peace, so she could be too.
She could finally stop suffering and holding on and just join her.
She had been ill for three years, her family knew it, and she felt like she couldn't take it anymore.
She didn't have much time left, she was aware of it, but she had always felt like she had one more thing to do before leaving this world.
That thing was finding out what had actually happened to Emily, she now knew it.
And now that she had found that out, she could be free too.
That night, shortly after 3 am, Elizabeth's heart stopped beating.
She was alone in her small apartment in the retirement home, but weirdly, she wasn't scared at all.
At her last breath, she saw a big white light, stronger than any other one she had ever seen, then Emily appeared before her.
Her daughter had come to get her, just what the woman had waited for for fourty-one years.
"Come on, Mama, let's go. Daddy is waiting for you" Emily told her, taking her hand and starting to walk with her into that light.
Elizabeth could reunite with her family, and the three of them would now be together forever, finally at peace.

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 8: Elle Greenaway
"Was Elle someone who usually kept her promises?" David asked after listening carefully to what Aaron had to say.
"Of course" the younger man confirmed "She once gave a girl from our school a black eye just because, in her opinion, she had been looking at me for too long".
"And she was mad at Emily because she had humiliated her that day, right?" Dave continued.
"Yes" Aaron replied "Anyone who went against her ended up paying for it".
And hearing that sentence, David made his decision.
He walked out of the room with Aaron and told him he could go back home if he wanted to, then asked Elle to follow him to the dining room.
"Emily ridiculed you in front of your then-boyfriend and all your friends at school that day, right?" was the first thing he said to her when they sat down at the table facing each other.
"Yes, she did, and she was right" Elle responded "At 16, the only things I thought about were my physical appearance and impressing boys".
"But then you changed, didn't you?" Dave then asked her.
"Yes. Radically" the woman confirmed.
"And why did you do that, Elle?" the writer questioned "To make up for what you had done?".
"No. When I was 20, discovering my vocation for teaching changed my life. My husband and I never became parents, but my students are like the children I never had. If I'm so different from who I was as a teenager, it is above all for and thanks to them" Elle explained with a smile on her face.
"You threatened Emily that day, though" David reminded her, not to persist in bringing up the past of a woman who had definitely changed and matured, but because he wanted to find out the whole truth about that story.
"Look, I was very stupid back then, I can't deny it, and I was also scared of Emily" Elle then told him, clearly a little annoyed by that time.
"She had humiliated you and you swore you would have made her pay, so in the end, you got your revenge" Dave added, feeling almost sure he had already solved that case.
"Yes, I was angry, but not with Emily" the woman clarified "I was mad at her friend Spencer because he hadn't come to our stupid meeting in the afternoon of October 30. We had to do a research for school, although we weren't in the same grade or class, but I ended up discovering something else".
So then Elle, just like Aaron before her, began to reveal a secret she had kept to herself for fourty years.

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 2: Homicide or suicide?
The next afternoon, at 2.30pm, David left his house to head to the bar he had agreed to meet Matthew at.
Erin had decided to go with him, both because her husband had asked her to the previous evening and because, even if she would have never admitted it, she didn't want to miss that conversation.
When the couple entered the bar, Matthew almost immediately noticed them and motioned for them to join him at his table.
He was pale and clearly weak, and looked older than his 58 years, but there was a determination in his eyes that Mr and Mrs Rossi immediately liked.
"I've been drinking too much basically all my life" Matthew began, getting straight to the point "And now I'm facing the consequences of it. Cirrhosis of the liver, I have six months left to live, if I'm lucky. I'm trying to rebuild my relationship with my son and daughter, whom I haven't seen since they were little, but my psychologist told me that I also need to do one more thing before leaving this world. According to him, I won't die in peace if I have secrets".
"Get to the point, please" David interrupted, earning a glare from his wife.
He didn't usually behave that way, Erin knew that, but in that case he was way too eager to hear about Emily to listen to Matthew's lifestory.
"The point is that everyone said Emily Prentiss committed suicide by jumping into the river, but I know that's not the case" the younger man responded.
"Are you sure?" Erin intervened at that point.
She knew she shouldn't have been the one to ask the questions on that occasion, but at that very moment, she just couldn't stop herself from speaking.
"Of course. I was on the bridge that night" Matthew replied.
"And could you tell us what you saw?" David then asked him, even more impatient to find out what that man had called him to say.
"Not much, actually" the man explained "I heard a car arrive at full speed, then stop, and after a while, a splash in the water and the car starting again. And then, I saw the girl's body floating in the water, right in front of me".
"If you want to get this weight off your shoulders, you can just admit that you killed her now" Dave replied, clearly not convinced that that was the truth.
"Oh, no" Matthew said, almost horrified by that insinuation "I'm not proud of the life I've led, but I have never and would never have killed anyone."
"I remember that on the news, a few days after Emily's death, it was said that there was no water in her lungs, so she didn't drown" confirmed Erin, who, unlike her husband, had believed their new acquaintance's words.
"Then maybe you're right. She was thrown into the river when she was already dead" David observed.
"Well, you don't usually decide to go for a swim dressed as she was at that moment" Erin told him, clearly talking about the elegant black dress Emily had been wearing when she had been found.
After that, the couple talked to Matthew for a few more minutes, then they went their separate ways.
"So, what do you think? Do you believe he's telling the truth?" Erin asked her husband during their walk back to their house.
"I think so" Dave replied "It's finally time to get justice for Emily."

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 5: A reunion of former schoolmates
River.
All it had taken was that word on a piece of paper, and Spencer had asked for a few days off from work, told his wife and daughters that he had an urgent appointment in New York State, and gotten in the next plane to Long Island.
He knew what that word meant, and he also knew it wouldn't have led to anything, but he was certain that if Aaron Hotchner, with whom he had never had much contact and whom he hadn't seen in thirty-nine years, had called him, it had to be something urgent.
As he arrived at the address Aaron had told him, a few hours later, the man stopped in front of that house's front door with his heart in his throat and his stomach twisted in anxiety.
How could Aaron think he had the right to force him to remember things he would rather have forgotten?
But he was there now, so he decided to ring the doorbell.
Under it, however, there wasn't the last name "Hotchner", as Spencer expected, but "Rossi".
He had heard that last name before, it was that of a fairly famous former writer, but it meant nothing important to him.
As soon as the door was opened, a high-pitched sound distracted Spencer from his thoughts.
"Matt!" the voice of a person he hadn't see since he had finished high school, way back in 1968, exclaimed.
Although thirty-five years had passed and she had changed a lot, Jennifer Jareau was still perfectly recognizable, at least in Spencer's opinion.
"Jennifer!" Matthew replied, and then he hugged her "I thought no one would have come. I'm happy Aaron was right, at least this time".
"No one? What are you talking about, Matthew?" Spencer intervened at that point.
Aaron stood up from the desk he had been sitting at and said "Hello" to both him and Jennifer, then simply added "I knew they would have come".
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang again, and when the door was opened, a tall, dark-skinned man, with the muscles in his arms still well sculpted despite the fact that he was now over 55 years old, and wearing sunglasses, walked in.
"Little Genius?" was the first thing he said, obviously addressing Spencer, still using the nickname he had given him when they had first met, at 16 and 12 years old.
"Derek?" the younger man replied, getting up and going straight to him.
"How long has it been since we last saw each other? It seems like an eternity!" Derek laughed.
"An eternity is just a subjective thing. It's actually been thirty-seven years, seven days, seventeen minutes and thirty-two-" Spencer responded, but before he could finish his speech, someone interrupted him.
Two women had just arrived, two more people everyone in the room had known well during their adolescence, which now seemed so distant it was like another life.
One of the two, blonde, all dressed up, and wearing a flashy fuchsia dress, immediately ran towards him and Derek with open arms.
They both smiled as she stopped in front of them and hugged them both.
"Hey, Baby Girl, doesn't time ever pass for you?" Derek then asked her, winking ather after speaking.
"Do you know what Aaron wants to talk to us about or is it a secret?" Penelope then questioned, but before anyone could answer her, an elderly man and a woman about the same age as him walked into the room.
Spencer and Jennifer immediately recognized one of them.
It was former writer David Rossi, and if they weren't mistaken, the woman next to him was his wife Erin.
"Hello, everyone" David said, clearing his throat "If we're all here, then we can get started"
"Get started?" Jennifer asked "I don't know what you want to discuss, honestly. Emily committed suicide".
"No, it's not like that. Or rather, Matthew contacted me saying that she didn't kill herself and I want to believe it" Dave replied with conviction, making Derek nod "We have to reconstruct exactly everything that happened that night. I had already tried to do some research those days, but public attention was obviously focused on Kennedy's assassination".
"What do you know about this story?" Elle interjected, turning to Matthew.
"I was on the bridge and saw something that night. And I can say with certainty that Emily was killed" the man explained to her.
"Oh. And when did you see it, exactly? Between one bottle of beer and the next?" she retorted, earning a glare from Aaron, who had been her boyfriend in high school.
"I would be grateful if you all could cooperate" David added at that point, intervening in defense of the person he now considered an acquaintance.
"And why do we have to relive that day just because of one of Matthew's whims?" Derek said, then he turned back to his former schoolmate and asked "What exactly did you see?".
"I heard a car arrive on the bridge at full speed, then the sound of Emily's body hitting the water and the car starting again. Do you still have doubts Emily was killed now?" Matthew replied, then he just waited for the answer he knew was going to come soon from his former schoolmates.

The bridge to Heaven
Chapter 6: Aaron Hotchner
After hearing what Matthew had to say, as the man had predicted, everyone almost immediately agreed to cooperate.
"Good. Then if it's okay with you, I'd like to ask you some questions in another room, one person at a time" David then said, and again, everyone agreed to it.
It took longer that time, maybe because they understood that even though Dave wasn't a policeman and hadn't used the word "interview", they were considered suspects.
In the end, however, they accepted.
Aaron asked to be the first person to be questioned, just as David hoped, so the two men went into the dining room and closed the door, then the interrogation began.
"Aaron Hotchner. Elizabeth Prentiss has told me a lot about you" Dave began.
He wasn't lying.
The day after the one of their brief meeting, Emily's mother had asked one of the nurses at retirement home she lived in to look up David's phone number and had called him, mainly to talk to him about the difficult relationship between her daughter and Aaron Hotchner.
"You had quite the bad boy reputation in high school. Ladies' man, cool car" he added a few seconds later, and Aaron laughed, clearly pleased that Dave knew those things about him too.
"I still have it, actually, it's in my garage. Maybe your middle daughter wants to come take a spin. Her name is Diane, right? I've heard she's single and she and I are almost the same age" he then said, and although David didn't like the fact that Aaron was practically hitting on his daughter, he couldn't help but smile.
"Some people, at least for certain things, never change" he thought, shaking his head, then he decided to continue with the interrogation.
"I'll ask her" he replied "But let's get back to us now. People still remember those crazy races near the pine forest".
"Undefeated. All through high school" Aaron boasted "That car was like a rocket".
"Oh. Actually, I heard a different story" David replied, finally getting to the point "One night, you lost a race and were humiliated in front of all your friends by a girl".
"Who? Emily Prentiss? Oh, she wasn't like other girls" Aaron replied.
Thankfully, he had clearly changed his opinion on Emily over the years.
"You used to bully Emily at school, and after she showed you off, you only hated her more" Dave said, and as a response, at first Aaron just nodded.
"Now I regret what I did, but I also still partly think that if she had just dressed like a woman, no one would have made fun of her" Aaron told him, partly trying to justify the actions of his teenage self.
"You felt threatened by her, didn't you, Aaron?" Dave then asked him, irritated by the man's attempt to blame Emily for his mistakes.
"She made me feel uncomfortable, actually!" Aaron responded "She did it to everyone, even the girls".
"Are you saying Emily had argued with one of them too?" David then asked, not really expecting those words from the man sitting in front of him.
"Oh, yes!" Aaron exclaimed "I think you know how some women are: vicious. And my girlfriend at the time was just like that".
Then he too, just like Elizabeth Prentiss had done over the phone, began to talk about an event he had kept secret for almost fourty years.

•Content warnings: Mentions of teen pregnancy, cheating done by a boyfriend to his girlfriend, them basically breaking up, the boy not having told his parents his former girlfriend is pregnant because he is scared of his father's reaction and him breaking the promise to marry his now ex girlfriend and also refusing to be a part of their soon-to-be-born baby's life (even suggesting adoption, with the mom refusing) despite the baby's mother's attempts to convince him to be in it, her threatening to tell his parents about the baby and him warning her that things would be better for her if she didn't do it basically.
•Yes, I know that even as teenagers, Derek and Penelope wouldn't have done something like this, but that's what I needed them to do for the sake of the story.
•I also know that in "Criminal minds", Derek's father died when he was 10 years old, but here, for the sake of the story, he is still alive.
•I was the one who named all the girls at the institute except for Emily and JJ, by the way. None of them had their name said in "The goodbye room".
•DISCLAIMER: I'm absolutely not trying to say that mothers who choose to give their babies up for adoption are bad moms or don't love their kids. What I'm saying is just that Jennifer has wanted her baby from the moment she found out he or she was coming, so even without Derek's support, she wants to keep him or her. That's it.

Between their two hearts
Chapter 13: Cheating and threats
On June 10, 1968, the young women who lived at Saint Bridget's got to do another outing in town, and while there, Emily, Jennifer and two other girls, Rachel and Joanne, decided to go into a record store.
They didn't intend to buy anything, also because they didn't have a lot of money with them, but they did intend to look around and listen to the music playing in the shop.
"Look what I found!" Jennifer exclaimed at a some point, running towards the other girls "We can record our voices with this!".
Then, she, Rachel, and Joanne started to sing, pretending to record themselves, and Emily couldn't help but smile at that funny and cute sight.
Suddenly, however, after singing just a few lines, Jennifer stopped and began to stare at a place in the shop, not far from where they were standing.
"What's wrong, Jennifer? Are you okay?" Emily instinctively asked her, immediately getting worried about her friend.
"Derek..." the younger girl whispered, immediately walking towards her boyfriend, whom she hadn't seen in almost a month.
"Jennifer, I didn't think I'd find you here" he replied, evidently as amazed as she was.
"Why don't you wait for me in the car, Penelope?" he then told the blonde girl standing next to him.
"She is very pretty" Jennifer commented, clearly saddened.
She had almost immediately understood that Derek and that girl weren't just friends.
"I hadn't heard from you in a long time" her now former boyfriend replied, as if that justified him starting a new relationship while he was still with her.
"Have you been able to tell your parents about the baby?" Jennifer asked, basically ignoring what he had just told her.
"No" Derek told her, shaking his head "I can't get married. Not now."
"But you said you wanted to do the right thing. You promised me!" Jennifer protested, but Derek didn't really listen to her.
"We are only 17!" he exclaimed "We are kids!".
"Yes, and soon, I will be a mother" the girl replied "You have to tell them immediately".
"I can't do it" Derek said once again "My father would kill me".
So, trying what in her opinion was the last resource she had to change the boy's mind, Jennifer took his hand and placed it on her round belly.
"Here" she then told him with a smile on her face "Can you believe it? Your son or daughter is kicking".
"Jennifer, stop it!" Derek exclaimed, taking his hand off his former girlfriend's stomach.
"What can I do?" she whispered.
"You could give him or her up for adoption" the boy suggested, since he was only looking for a way to get out of that difficult situation at that moment.
"Absolutely not! He or she is our Sunshine" Jennifer retorted, horrified at the mere possibility of leaving a child she already loved and wanted so much.
"But I don't want to be a father now!" Derek protested, not realizing that he no longer had an actual choice in that regard.
"You already are" Jennifer responded in a firm voice "And if you don't tell your parents, I will".
And after saying those words, she called her friends over and left the shop with them, without looking back.
Derek tried to tell her to come back more than once, and also to warn her not to try to say a word about the baby to his parents, but she couldn't hear him anymore.
She was firm on the decision she had made, and in her former boyfriend's mind, now there was only one way to solve that problem.

Between their two hearts
Chapter 23: Grief, anger and murder
On the night between July 24 and July 25 of 1968, without Jennifer knowing it, as she ran away with her little girl, someone was watching her.
That person was Emily, who, upon seeing her friend leave Saint Bridget's with her daughter in her arms, decided to follow her.
For a few minutes, she simply watched Jennifer run through the woods just outside the institute, following her while trying not to be noticed.
Then, however, she decided to make herself heard by the girl.
"Jennifer!" she shouted, starting to run too, in order to reach her "Jennifer, wait, it's me!".
Hearing the voice of the person who had been her only friend at Saint Bridget's, the girl stopped moving, so in a few seconds, Emily was next to her.
"What are you doing?" she then asked.
"They sell babies at the institute, Emily" Jennifer replied, no longer able to keep that truth to herself "They don't give them up for adoption. Their new parents pay to have them".
"No, that's not true!" Emily exclaimed, shaking her head in shock "It can't be true!".
Before she could say anything else, Jennifer started running again, so she chased after her and stopped her by grabbing her arm.
"Jennifer, no! Stop!" she told her, but the younger girl shook her head.
"They only lied to us" she replied "We are mothers now. We will never be able to forget our children".
"But you said you wouldn't abandon me!" Emily protested, feeling angry by that time.
"I know, and I'm sorry, but I have to go now" Jennifer retorted.
"What do you mean?" her friend asked her.
"I'm running away with my Sunshine!" the girl exclaimed "I don't want her to be taken from me!".
Then she tried to start running again, but Emily stopped her once more.
"No, you two are going to stay here!" she shouted at her "I abandoned my baby, now you have to do it too!".
"No, she's my daughter!" Jennifer replied.
"She's not yours anymore, you have to take her back to the institute!" Emily screamed, in the shrillest voice her friend had ever heard her make "You need to bring her back!".
"What?" Jennifer questioned, confused and shocked at the same time.
After seeing how much her friend had suffered when her baby had been taken from her, she wasn't expecting to hear those words come out of her mouth.
"Bring her back to Saint Bridget's!" Emily repeated, pretty much hysterical by that time "Bring him back, you can't run away with him! He's my baby!".
"What are you saying?!? Are you crazy?!?" Jennifer exclaimed.
Deep down, she knew what was happening to her friend, but at that moment, her reaction shocked her deeply.
"No, he's mine, not yours!" Emily replied, as she reached down and quickly picked up a rock from the ground near her feet "He is my son and you have to give him back to me! You have to give him back to me! He is mine!".
Then, deep into her anger and grief, she hit Jennifer on the head with the rock and after making sure the girl was dead or at least going to die soon, she took the baby from her arms and returned to Saint Bridget's with the little one.
Hoping she could fill the void that had formed in her heart when her son had been from her, she placed her in her baby's crib and until the next morning, took care of her as if she was her own child.
The pain she felt didn't go away, though.
Jennifer was right.
None of them would have ever been able to forget their baby, and that hole in Emily's heart was going to accompany her for the rest of her life.
