Textiles 1 - Artist research and Developing ideas
With my strong interest in textiles and print design, I was looking forward to our Textiles module. We kicked things off by exploring and researching different artists. From Jill’s presentation, the following artists caught my eye:
Hannah Hill - Arthur’s Fist (2016)
Tumblr media
Based on a meme, Hill’s work features a feminist message on how embroidery is not respected compared to other mediums, due to it’s association as women’s work. I fully agree with her message! Embroidery is a skill within itself and is labour intensive. I also enjoyed this piece of art due to it’s use of post modernism of recycling a popular meme, reflecting that art can be entertaining but also provide a strong message. More info regarding the piece can be found here.
Eliza Bennett- A woman’s work is never done (2014?)
Tumblr media
Following a similar message to Hill, Bennett presents and describes this piece as a self inflicted sculpture. It is visually uncomfortable, challenging the viewer of the physical pain that the artist could’ve went through but also the strong message of the physical labour of ‘gendered  activities i.e. women’s work. Activities or jobs such childcare, sewing and cleaning is presented as more ‘gentle’ but is more  physically and emotionally labour intensive than credited. Essentially it is not valued compared to other jobs. More info here
Do-Ho Suh-  New York Apartment (2015)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was drawn to Suh’s work due to the artist replicating and transforming spaces out of fabric. Inspired by the artist’s apartment, the sculpture is made with lightweight materials of Nylon and Silk. This play of using light materials to replicate something stable as brick walls and stairs explores the ideas shape, weight and form. It also explores ideas of immigration, the ability to ‘carry home with you’ and the impermanence and transitional nature of moving home. More info here
Josh Blackwell- Plastic Baskets (????)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found Plastic Baskets an interesting piece due to the artist transforming everyday items like plastic bags into something more of value by using textile techniques. In turn, Blackwell explores ideas of value and cost of items and how materials used can change this. It also explores ideas of consumerism and waste. I like how the artist has challenges the viewer with these bags as well as the techniques used. This has also inspired me to try textile techniques on cardboard, or other everyday items around the house.  More info here.
Brainstorm
We were then tasked to create a brainstorm of textiles ideas in relation to our project theme.
Tumblr media
Own research
Next we researched artists who has incorporated ideas of our project theme for inspiration. I researched artists that used plants or the human figure within their work.
Amanda Richardson
Tumblr media
Oriental rug with Spring Flowers
Tumblr media
Flame Tulips with red Camellia
Created floral pieces with textiles collage. The artist uses hand dyed silks, satins and velvets, which has inspired to try hand dye some fabrics. Perhaps with natural dyes? Although I would be more likely use cotton and linen as it is more cost effective, particularly for tests. I’m also intrigue and amazed it’s a collage (how did she create those shadows??). It reminds me of classical still life paintings from Rachel Ruysch, which can be viewed here.
Veronica Cay
Tumblr media
I hesitate (2012)
Tumblr media
Blinkered in Past History (2019)
I love how expressive ‘I Hesitate’ is! It features the loose line work I would to create with the body shapes/head in my project. It is inspiring to see it via free stitch embroidery and the potential of transforming line work drawings into stitches on fabrics. However I’m aware that this is difficult to achieve and requires skills, but if the opportunity arises to access machines to try this, I would give it a go!  I’m also intrigued by the use of layering and volume of textiles with her statue Blinkered in Past History and could be interesting to explore sculpture and textiles in this way.  More of Cay’s work here.
Ana Teresea Barboza
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ana Teresa Barboza – Serie De La Estructura De La Raiz (Orquiüdea) – Embroidery On Cloth 2013
Barboza is a Peruvian textiles artist who features landscapes and plants embroidery within her work. I  was particularly drawn to these pieces in how she uses the threads, as if its unravelling outside of the hoop and using space around the piece. I thought it would be interesting to play with the aspect of the ‘done and undone’ to have parts of a piece completed but aspects of it not finished to show the material in a raw form.  More info on the artist here.
Hilary Waters - Leaves
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found Water’s work interesting due to her use of plant matter. These pieces feature camellia leaves which the artist has sewn embroidered onto them. Water’s work is based on sustainability, in which she uses leaves and seeds from her home town and sews onto them. More info here
Sommar Roman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both images part of Sculpture 1 collection
Towards the end of my research I wanted to find something more sculpture/ 3D based and came across Sommar Roman. I was intrigued by the strange yet slightly familiar forms that she created with ‘domestic discards and used textiles.’ The first artwork reminds me of a tree trunk and moss growing, while the second reminds me of coral reefs and sea plants. I find her use of layering interesting and could explore this by finding old clothes and fabric scraps at home (from sewing projects) and create 3D sculptures. It’s also made me curious in how i could present these sculptures, from floor level to mounted on the wall or even suspended in the air.  More info on the artist here.
Reflection and Ideas...
Overall the lesson was very informative and inspired ideas. With a strong interest in textiles and having explored this briefly with print making project, I would like to explore textiles further as part of my final art project. I have various ideas...I’m particularly intrigued to explore a 3D piece, something that transform a space like Sommer Roman or Do Ho Suh. I could explore creating large floral sculptures out of fabric or a room space with painting and textiles (inspired by box art project). I also love the idea of turning line drawings into a textile piece, like Veronica Cay using freehand embroidery.
In terms of materials, generally I would like to use more found materials than new ones but open to using a mixture of both. Taking inspiration from Josh Blackwell,  I could experiment stitching and gluing onto cardboard from packaging and see what effects that would create.
With colleges and schools opening in March, I really hope that we would be able to have the chance to use and learn textile equipment like heat press and dyeing-  as that could influence my projects and branch into other ideas.
Problem solving- what if we go into lockdown again? If we still have to work from home or go back into lockdown, I will adapt by using found items from around the house and creating art work on a smaller scale. I could still use textiles techniques like embroidery, patchwork or sewing- which can be done at home.

Part 1 – And So We Begin
“Thank you for calling Fort Jamison Historical Museum, this is Rosemary. How can I help you?”  The jaunty-sounding phrase rolled off her tongue automatically with little thought behind it until she heard the wizened chuckle on the other end.
“Do you always answer your cell phone like that?”  She pinched the bridge of her nose and groaned as Robert Lancaster’s chuckle morphed into a hearty laugh.  She couldn’t help but giggle along as she dropped her pencil and took off her glasses, setting them on the desk in front of her.
“You know, sometimes I do, especially when I’m not paying attention.” Rosemary leaned back into her chair, propping her feet up on the desk.  Her free hand dropped down to fondle Banana’s ears as the dog snoozed next to her.  “What’s up, Robert?”
“I’m doing some spring cleaning at the house and shop.  I got quite a few boxes accumulated, including stuff I’d like to donate to the museum.  When do you think you can come down to look through them?  I don’t expect you to take them all, but there are a couple of items I want you to specifically have.”  His voice sounded muffled over the phone as he bent down to toss another book into the Friends of the Library box.
“It’s a little slow this week,” she started as she checked the calendar on her wall.  “Looks like I can come as early as tomorrow.  So, if that works for you, I’ll bring the paperwork with me and we can just get it all done at once.”
“Oh, great!  I was hoping you could come soon.  It’s been a while since we had time to visit.”  His smile was evident in his voice.  “Can you do the paperwork on the computer?”
“Sure, we have the fillable PDFs.”
“Even better.  Just bring your laptop and we’ll work on it as we go through everything.  We can connect to the printer here and then you don’t have to worry about doing any of this at the office.  By the way, do you think you’ll have time for lunch?”
“Robert, you know I always have time for you.”  She smiled.  They had been friends for ten years by that point and he never failed to ask the lunch or dinner question and she never failed to make time for him.  Robert had been her first friend when she arrived in Michigan and the long-running friendship between the perpetual bachelor and the bold curator was stuff of area legend.
There had been speculation of a May-December romance between the two, but Robert saw the younger woman as the daughter he never had and on her part Rosemary saw Robert as the father figure she lost when her grandfather passed away.
“Want to do Phil’s or Coral Gables?”  She smiled.  Just as their dates were always guaranteed, she knew that their location was as well. But it was habit to ask and it never felt right if she didn’t.
“Why do you even ask the question?  You know it’s supposed to be nice tomorrow, Coral Gables’ patio all the way.”  The two chatted a bit longer before they hung up, returning to the rest of their respective duties.  Rosemary sat up and Banana whined when she stopped petting him.  Spoiled dog.
“Sorry, Baba.  Work calls.” She stood up from her desk and wandered down the hall to the director’s office, knowing Helen was at her desk.  The third floor of the museum was workspace for the staff and despite working there for so many years, Rosemary never failed to draw an appreciative breath at the stunning sight of the Kalamazoo River.
As she ambled down the hall, Banana’s nails clicked on the tile floor, hinting that she wasn’t alone on her journey.  She smiled as she waved her hand and the dog rushed to her side.  The two slowly walked to the director’s office, warming themselves in the afternoon sun that poured through the windows.
Rosemary heard the muttering first as she rounded the corner and entered the office.  The stout woman was hunched over her laptop, her salt and pepper pixie cut sticking up everywhere.  Whatever she was working on, it was stressing her out.  Helen always pulled at her short strands when she was concentrating hard.
Smiling, Helen’s head jerked up as Rosemary knocked on the door.  The older woman waved her curator into the office and leaned back.  As she stretched, both women could hear a series of loud pops and they started to giggle.
“Ugh, I am getting too old to sit like this.  I need a massage.”  Helen groaned as yet another loud pop emitted from her shoulder.  As Banana scooched under the desk to get scritches from Helen, Rosemary plopped down in one of the armchairs and it creaked in complaint. “Do you have to sit so hard? Those are collection pieces, you know.”
“Not anymore.  I deaccessioned them last week into the decorative collection.  Donor approved, mind you.  So, we can sit in these however we want.”  Rosemary grinned as she threw a leg over the arm of the ornate chair.  For being so ugly, it was comfortable and not for the first time, she wondered if she could move them to her office without Helen noticing.
“That may be, but it’s not like we have money to fix something you broke because you were being too careless.”  Helen raised her eyebrow and Rosemary sat back up in the chair like normal, having the courtesy to look chagrined.  The director sat back.
“So, what do you need?  Are you still having issues with that Gaylord order?”
“Naw, I talked to them last week, they shipped it out yesterday. Finally.”  She rolled her eyes.  “Robert Lancaster called me just a bit ago, wanting to donate some items to the museum.  I got the time, so I’ll head to Saugatuck tomorrow to handle it.”
“Well, I know Robert is quite the collector, but do you think there are things we’ll want?  I’m hard pressed to start accepting any old thing again after we finally got the collections cleared up and decluttered.  I know he’s a long-time supporter of the museum, but I don’t know if I can take another ugly piece of furniture with a smile.”  Rosemary laughed at the comment.
“To his credit, he said there were things we probably wouldn’t want, and I doubt he’ll be sad if I said no to some things.  I certainly want to see what books he’s got for us.  We have a few things in the library that probably need to be rotated out into archives for their own protection.
“Besides, I am not going to pass up a chance to swoop in and yank the rug out from underneath Saugatuck.  You know that.  Watching Fred get mad that I got the leg up on him adds ten years to my life.” Rosemary rubbed her hands gleefully, a glint of mischief in her eyes.
“You really hate him, don’t you?”  Helen laughed.  Lake Michigan History Center was a charming coastal museum, but everyone agreed their curator was a bit odd.  Rosemary took an instant dislike to the man when she came on Fort Jamison’s staff and over the years, their dislike turned into a mutual hatred.  Like her friendship with Robert, everyone knew Fred was Rosemary’s mortal enemy and vice versa.
“God, yes!  Helen, he’s a dick and greedy as hell.  I don’t trust him any further than I can toss his skinny ass. I am still pissed over the diary!  Mrs. Greenwich assured me that we were getting it and he slithered into the village last year and took it!”  Rosemary’s voice got louder.  “THAT DAMN DIARY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SAUGATUCK, LET ALONE MENTIONS IT!”
Helen laughed harder while raising her hands in surrender and her curator stopped herself before she got too carried away.  Rosemary cleared her throat and drew a deep breath.  Ugh, he always managed to get her riled up even when he wasn’t around.  Damn Fred.
“Sorry, sorry.  I shouldn’t let him get me so mad, but god.  I hate him so much!  So, if Robert Lancaster’s got something that would make Fred die with envy, then by god, I’m gonna bring it home.”
“Alright.  I trust you as usual.  But since you’re here, I want to go over a couple of things with you for this grant so I can get it out Friday.”
The two women moved on to other things and fell into discussion about the future of projects for the museum and how to fund them.
---***---
“Cripes.”
The word was accompanied by a deep groan.  Agent Marcus Pike sat back in his chair to rub his eyes for the third time in less than an hour.  Some intern had dumped four boxes of case files in his office and was coming back with four more.  And the intern was certain there was another half dozen.
When three art pieces were stolen in Canada last year, Pike had been notified as a courtesy from his Canadian counterparts.  Which in and of itself wasn’t unusual, but the notes from the agents there stood out to Pike and he realized that the details match another case he had worked on earlier in the year.  And further digging uncovered almost three dozen cases dating back almost thirty years that carried all the hallmarks of this most recent one.  And more importantly – they were all still open.
He had taken his concerns and theories to the Art Squad chief, Agent Maria Luisa Armand, and with her blessing, assembled a crew to explore these cold cases. Maybe with new technology and eyes, they’d get the lead to solve them all.
The dull throbbing behind his eyes seemed to get worse and he leaned further back in his chair, trying to do some breathing exercises to reduce the pressure.  He let his eyes go unfocused, letting the colored light reflected on his ceiling go blurry.  The stained glass propped up in his office window had been a bit of an indulgence for him, but Pike never regretted the purchase and, in that moment, the colored streaks help bring some sense of zen that he needed.
A knock on his door forced him out of his zone and he sat up to see his partner, Brenda Carmichael, waiting at the door.  He smiled when he saw her and she returned the gesture, coming in to sit in one of the chairs.  The two had been partners for six years and together they had solved dozens of cases and thwarted twice as much.
“Do we have a plan, Carmichael?”
“Yep.  Someone is coming to get these boxes and take them to Conference D, which I commandeered.”
“How did you do that?”
“Threatened to tell Harrison’s wife that he was spending big cash on that escort he’s seeing.”
“Ouch, a little low, don’t you think?”  Pike laughed.
“God no.  Harrison doesn’t ever play nice, so you can’t do it with him.”  She waived her hand and laughed, her tightly coiled hair bouncing as if it was laughing, too.  “Anyway, three junior agents are on the job currently preparing to create the timeline and pulling all the files.  Two more are working to create point of contact lists for witnesses and such. And finally, I think Armand is putting on the coffee.”
“So where does that leave you and me?”  He didn’t think he’d get such a big crew to do this.  Must be a slow day in other departments.  “I want Fitzbender on the NSAF search and follow up, though, before I forget.
“That’s fine.  And we supervise.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it for now. Until we have more material to work with.  So up off your duff and let’s get going.”
Pike smiled as he pulled himself out of his chair, grabbing his jacket and gesturing to Carmichael to leave first.  If they could solve these cases, it would be the biggest win in the Art Squad’s recent history and Pike really wanted to bring those pieces home where they belonged.
---***----
“Robert, you know I love you, but you have some ugly stuff here.” Rosemary’s nose wrinkled at the stuffed monkey with murderous eyes staring at her from a box.  The only place that creepy thing was going was in the garbage.  She moved on to another open box, pawing through the items that were housed there, pulling out a couple of potentials.
“Yeah, well no accounting for taste, I guess.”  Robert groaned as he leaned over and pulled open another box. He thought he had labelled all of them for the museum, but he realized three of them got mixed up in the junk pile. “God, how did I miss all these boxes. I’m sorry Rosie, I am usually better organized.”
“It’s not a problem, Robert.”  Rosemary walked over with the contents of yet another box, a bounce in her step as she realized she snagged a two-hundred-year-old map of the area that Fred would have murdered her to get for himself.  Her grin was almost feral at the idea that she one upped the old bastard. “Hey, question.”
“What?”  Robert had moved on to a small box on his desk that had a post-it with Rosemary’s name on it.
“What’s with all the cleaning and giving away all of a sudden?  The house wasn’t like this when I visited two months ago.”  She wiped the sweat off her brow and turned to look at him.  He was quiet and she took a moment to really look at him.
She knew from long talks that Robert had been living in the Saugatuck area since the 1990s.  He had come from Chicago, declaring he needed a slower pace and his bookstore was a welcomed addition to the downtown area.  He was highly philanthropic to causes he loved, like the Fort Jamison museum.
After her Pops passed away several years ago, she seemed to lean even more into Robert to fill the empty void and he did so gladly.  As she watched him shuffle about, she grew concerned because he looked more frail than usual.  The man had always been on the thin side, but he looked scarily thin and a thought skittered through her mind that sent a wave of sadness through her.
“Robert, are you sick?”  There was no hiding the sadness in Rosemary’s voice.  When he stopped and hesitated, she didn’t need a verbal answer from him. She walked over from where she was standing and placed her hand on his shoulder, turning him around.  “Robert.”
He bowed his head and wrapped his arms around the younger woman as tight as he could, and she did the same.  He began to cry on her shoulder, and it startled her, causing tears to form in her eyes.  She silently rubbed his back in comforting circles as sobs wracked Robert’s body. They stood there a long time before he quieted down, but even then, Rosemary refused to let him go, hugging him close to her.
He was her friend and she loved him dearly, so if he were dying, it would devastate her.  Robert made a move to pull back and she reluctantly let him go but held onto his arms with her hands to keep him close.  His red-rimmed eyes crushed the broken pieces of her heart.  He sighed.
“Rosie.”  He took a deep breath.  “I met with my doctor last week and I have stage four pancreatic cancer.  He only gave me a few months to live.”
“Oh Robert.”  The tears started up again and she threw her arms around him.  They cried together a second time and the sadness enveloped them. As she held him close, her tears made her voice rough.  “That’s what spurred this on, isn’t it?”
“Yes.  But you’re the only one to know right now.  I didn’t want to tell anyone else until you knew.”
“What do you need me to do?”
“Well, for starters, this hug is pretty good.”  He chuckled a little bit.  “And get some of this stuff out of my house.  And then just be my friend until the end.”
“Always.”  She pulled back to look at him.  “But it will be a cold day in hell before that ugly ass monkey comes with me.”
The tension and sadness were broken, letting them laugh a bit through their tears.  They stepped apart and let themselves smile at each other.
“Let’s get lunch and come back to this stuff later.  It’s too nice of a day to miss out on the patio.”

Twisted Fate - chapter 17
Tumblr media
6: “I’m sorry for all that pain I caused”
[AO3]
x
One year and nine months earlier
The June sun was pleasantly warm, and Gold was glad of the sunglasses shielding his eyes from the glare. At ten-thirty, the heat of the day had not yet developed, and there was still a freshness to the light breeze that caught at his hair and kissed along his jaw. It was rent day, and he was on his rounds, trying to catch as many of his business tenants as he could before lunch. Those that weren’t avoiding him, of course.
He crossed the street, looking both ways as he did so, and headed for Game of Thorns. The usual bright displays of flowers were outside, along with a selection of garden ornaments and several hanging baskets dripping with colourful blooms. Gold had a bet with himself as to whether Moe French had the rent. He suspected not, but he would be delighted to be proven wrong.
The bell above the shop door tinkled as he stepped inside, and Gold glanced towards the counter. His eyes narrowed behind the glasses, and for a moment he thought he was seeing things when a young woman turned to face him. Sunlight shining through the window made a halo around her, making her hair gleam with reddish tones, and as he stepped closer he could see her smile, eyes shining in a beautiful face. It felt as though a soft wave of light was washing over him, bathing him in warmth, blinding him. He squeezed his eyes shut behind the dark glasses, blinking rapidly before opening them up and trying to focus on the woman in front of him.
She was small and slight, in a tight white blouse with cap sleeves above a coral-pink skirt. Her skin was pale, her lips painted a luscious red, slender fingers holding a red rose, and he felt his breath catch in his throat, his heart thumping. She was perfect. She was also a complete stranger, and he wondered when she had come to Storybrooke. He moved closer to the counter, settling the cane between his legs and looking her over properly.
“I wasn’t aware that Mr French had hired an assistant,” he said, surprised at how calm his voice sounded.
“He didn’t,” she said. “Well, not exactly, anyway. I’m his daughter.”
His daughter? She must take after her mother, then, he thought. She had the same accent as Moe French, an accent he had always found irritating when speaking to the man. Strange that it sounded so pleasant, so sweet, coming from her mouth. For fuck’s sake, man, get a bloody grip! Anyone would think you’d never seen a pretty woman before.
“Of course,” he said, allowing his voice to become the lazy drawl that he knew made people bristle. “The family resemblance is - well, it’s non-existent, but no matter.”
Miss French frowned, brows drawing down a little, and he felt something like relief at having annoyed her. She put down the rose, leaning on the counter, and raised her chin.
“It appears you have me at a disadvantage,” she said coolly, and he smiled.
“That’s usually my intent,” he said. “But you’re right, I should introduce myself. I’m Mr Gold. The landlord.”
He didn’t miss the way she took a step back, looking suddenly nervous.
“What—” She swallowed hard. “What can I do for you, Mr Gold?”
He took off his glasses, folding the arms down carefully and slipping them into his pocket.
“I’m here for the rent,” he said quietly. “Both the shop, and the house. Perhaps you can satisfy me?”
She shook her head, the tip of her tongue slipping out to wet her lips. His eyes followed its path, and he wondered how it would feel to press his mouth to hers. Whether she would taste as sweet as she looked.
“Where’s your father, Miss French?” he asked softly.
“Out making deliveries,” she said. “Shall I tell him you stopped by?”
“If you would,” he said. “You may also tell him that the rent is due by six o’clock this evening, and I expect it to be paid in full, Good day, Miss French.”
He pressed a hand to his chest, bowing his head a little, and turned to head for the door, taking his glasses back out and slipping them on before he went out into the sunshine. His heart was pounding, his blood singing in his veins, and he stood for a moment, breathing in the warm summer air and wondering at the force of his reaction to her. He almost turned around and went back into the shop, ready to tell her he would wait for Moe French’s return. It was with some effort that he took a step forward, and then another, heading back down the street to the pawn shop.
Once he was inside, the cool darkness a relief after the heat and brightness of the sun, he walked to the counter, leaning on it and taking several deep breaths as he let himself calm. The heavy tick of antique clocks helped to soothe him, and he felt his breathing slow, allowing himself a tiny, satisfied smile. Rent was due, after all. He glanced up at the nearest clock, its minute hand just past the hour. He had a feeling he would be seeing Miss French again before the day was out.
x
Gold watched the clock on the wall of Dr Hopper’s office, its minute hand just past the hour, a low ticking coming from it and sounding unnaturally loud in the silence that had fallen as soon as he had taken off his coat. He was sitting on the edge of the couch, hands folded loosely together, with Dr Hopper in the chair opposite. It was Friday, he had driven up from Boston that morning, and he had a session of therapy, numerous matters of business and a four-hour drive ahead of him. He suspected that the therapy would be the most exhausting.
“So,” said Dr Hopper kindly. “How have you been?”
“Fine.”
“Can you expand on that?”
“Belle had an accident,” said Gold. “Broke her arm.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” said Dr Hopper. “How is she doing?”
He pulled a face.
“Well, it’s her dominant arm, so she’s pretty helpless and getting more frustrated by the day, I think,” he said. “I - I moved in. Temporarily, of course. Just to help out.”
“How is that going?”
“It’s - a work in progress,” he admitted. “She doesn’t like relying on other people. Especially me, I think.”
“Was it her idea, or yours?”
“Oh, hers,” he said immediately. “I wasn’t going to suggest it. If I had she would probably have said no.”
“It must take some getting used to,” said Dr Hopper carefully. “Living together in such close quarters. How is it going?”
“It’s - okay,” said Gold. “It’s a little awkward, but we’re trying. She seems to be handling it better than I am, to be honest.”
“What is it that you find difficult?”
Gold hesitated.
“I’m - I’m never sure if I’m overstepping,” he said. “I’m trying to be useful, cooking and cleaning, but I try to keep out of her way as much as I can. And - and she doesn’t seem to mind me helping her dress and bathe, but it feels awkward. Like I shouldn’t be there.”
“But she doesn’t seem to feel that way?”
“No.” He pulled a face. “Maybe she just doesn’t care what I think about anything. I’m not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.”
“Have you talked to her about it?”
“No. Why would I? It’s my problem, not hers.”
There was silence for a moment. Gold turned his attention to the rug at his feet. There was a loose thread coiling out of it, and he nudged it with the shining toe of his shoe, pushing it down into the pile and watching it spring up again.
“And what we spoke about last time,” said Dr Hopper, making him look up. “About being open with her. Is there any progress on that front?”
Gold pursed his lips, his natural instinct to bottle everything up warring with his promise to himself to put his all into the therapy sessions.
“I told Belle about my son,” he said hesitantly, and Dr Hopper smiled.
“That’s an excellent start,” he said. “How did you find that?”
“She was - a little surprised, I suppose, but she was supportive,” he said. “Sympathetic.”
“That’s great,” said Dr Hopper. “But what I wanted to know was how you found being open with her. Letting her know a little more about your life.”
Gold thought for a moment.
“It was better than I expected,” he admitted. “It was - sort of a relief, I suppose.”
“Do you think you might tell her something else about your past?”
“Like what?” asked Gold cautiously, and Dr Hopper spread his hands.
“Whatever you feel comfortable divulging.”
Gold shifted a little in his seat.
“I don’t know,” he muttered. “I know I needed to tell her about Bae. I’m not sure anything else is relevant.”
Dr Hopper eyed him for a moment, and nodded.
“Alright, we can come back to that,” he said. “Besides the awkwardness you’re feeling, how are things between you otherwise?”
Gold’s mouth flattened, and he sat back with a low grumble.
“Either a little better or a little worse,” he said. “Depending on your point of view.”
“I’m sorry?”
He sighed, running a hand over the back of his neck awkwardly and not looking up.
“She told me she still loves me,” he said heavily. “But that she doesn’t trust me, so we can’t - can’t build anything.”
“And how did you feel about that?” asked Dr Hopper. Gold shrugged.
“At first I was a little - surprised,” he admitted. “I never expected her to still have any positive feelings towards me, certainly not love. And - and then I was - hurt, I suppose.”
“Because she doesn’t trust you?”
“Yes. Is that unreasonable of me?”
“What do you think?”
Gold hesitated.
“I suppose I can’t blame her,” he said. “Just because I’m trying to do the right thing now, it doesn’t undo what I did then. The fact that I’m sorry for all that pain I caused can’t - can’t turn back time.”
“It can’t,” agreed Dr Hopper. “And it may take some time for her to trust you in the future.”
“If she ever does,” said Gold quietly.
“It’s certainly not something you can force,” said Dr Hopper. “Do you want her to trust you?”
“Of course,” he said dismissively. “What kind of question is that?”
“Alright,” said Dr Hopper. “Let me ask you another. Do you trust Belle?”
Gold looked up, eyes narrowing suspiciously.
“I’m supposed to say yes, aren’t I?”
“Telling me what you think you’re supposed to say isn’t going to move us forward.”
Gold sighed, sitting back a little. He was silent for a moment, thinking, and gave the tiniest shrug, the barest denial.
“I don’t think I trust anyone,” he said quietly, and Dr Hopper nodded slowly.
“Well, trusting someone means making yourself vulnerable,” he said. “That can be a difficult thing to do. You need to feel safe with that person.”
He shifted uncomfortably, frowning.
“That sounds as though it’s Belle’s fault I keep her at arm’s length, and that’s not true,” he said. “She’s given me no reason not to feel safe with her, and for me to suggest otherwise would be a lie.”
“I’m not saying that,” said Dr Hopper. “Insecurity in a relationship, any relationship, can be caused by one person doing something to cause the other to lose trust—infidelity is a common example—but it can also be that there are things in a person’s past that have shaped their view of the present. That’s not anyone’s fault, least of all the person they’re with. The important thing is to recognise and deal with it.”
Gold was silent, fingers sliding together rhythmically.
“What do you think of that?” asked Dr Hopper, and Gold gave a non-committed shrug. Dr Hopper looked thoughtful.
“Have you had other relationships?” he asked. “Before you met Belle, I mean?”
“Well, there was Milah,” said Gold. “Bae’s mother. We were together for a little while, although perhaps her ideas of what a commitment entailed were different to mine.”
“She was unfaithful?”
Gold let out a hollow laugh.
“I’m not sure she knew what the word faithful meant,” he said dryly. “I suppose I can’t blame her, really. Not for that. We weren’t remotely suited, and I could never have made her happy. She only came back because of Bae. My father said—”
He clamped his mouth shut, and Dr Hopper tilted his head a little.
“Go on,” he prompted, but Gold shook his head.
“Can we move on?” he said irritably.
“Okay, we can maybe cover that in another session,” said Dr Hopper gently. “What about after she left? Let’s say in the past ten to fifteen years. What form did your relationships take in that period?”
Gold wrinkled his nose.
“‘Relationships’ might be a strong word.”
“What would you call them?”
“Interactions, maybe? Dalliances? I don’t know,” Gold sat back, feeling uncomfortable. “Meaningless - frivolities.”
“Alright. In that case, how would you characterise these interactions?”
“Brief and transactional.”
“Can you expand on that?”
Gold sighed, running a hand through his hair awkwardly.
“Expensive dinners and lengthy, mutually-pleasurable sex sessions.”
To his credit, Dr Hopper didn’t even blink.
“How long did each interaction last?”
Gold pulled a face, thinking.
“Mostly one night. Occasionally spanning a week or two.”
“Intentionally so?”
“You mean did I go into each one thinking it wouldn’t turn into anything more?” asked Gold. “Oh yes, I was under no illusions about that. It was entirely intentional.”
“And where did these interactions take place?”
“Boston,” he said. “New York, if I was there on business.”
“Not Storybrooke.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
Gold shrugged.
“Keeping things - separate - I suppose,” he said. “I don’t like people knowing my business, and the gossip at Granny’s makes keeping private affairs private next to impossible in this town.”
“I see.” Dr Hopper tapped his pencil against his pad. “So what was it that made Belle different?”
Gold blinked.
“What?”
“You said that the two of you were dating for a year,” said Dr Hopper. “She lived in Storybrooke. By your own admission that doesn’t fit your usual pattern, so what made it different?”
Gold looked down at his fingers, the knuckles white where he was squeezing them together. I loved her. I loved her, that’s what made it different. God, I’m such an idiot! Why didn’t I realise? Why didn’t I tell her?
“She was different,” he said quietly. “She was - when I saw her it was like - like light. Like the breaking of dawn. Chasing away the shadows. I don’t know how to explain it, but I knew I had to - have her.” He winced, running a hand over his face. “That sounds wrong. I don’t mean I felt - lustful. She’s beautiful, of course, but - but it wasn’t lust I felt that day. I’m not explaining it well...”
“Can you describe the feeling?” prompted Dr Hopper.
Gold sucked his teeth, remembering the first time he saw her, the intensity of the feeling that had burst through him when she had spoken to him, when he had seen her bathed in sunlight.
“Something like - awe,” he said eventually.
“Had you ever felt that way before?”
“No.”
“When you say you had to have her, but that it wasn’t lustful,” said Dr Hopper carefully. “What did you mean by that?”
He heaved a sigh, shifting uncomfortably.
“I don’t mean that I didn’t want her, because I absolutely did,” he said quietly. “I wanted to take her in my arms, and kiss her, and find out how she tasted. I wanted to take her to bed and give her all the pleasure I could. But - but I wanted to know more about her. To find out what books she liked, to know what food she liked and how she took her tea. What made her laugh. What her dreams were.”
“You wanted to know her.”
“Yes.”
“How long was it before your relationship became physical?”
“I think about eight weeks.”
“How did the two of you make that transition?” asked Dr Hopper, and Gold gave a wry smile.
“I had arranged for her to deliver flowers to me once a week,” he said. “During that time I talked with her. Made her tea, discussed some of the books in my library. When I said I wanted to be - intimate - with her, she agreed without hesitation.”
“And after your first night together,” said Dr Hopper. “Did you consider ending it?”
“No,” he said immediately. “No, I knew I needed more. I had to see her again. And again. But - but I also knew it couldn’t last, because she was going away. She was only in Storybrooke temporarily, and she didn’t want any of her friends to know, so - so it was safe. Safe to be with her, because eventually she would leave, and I knew that.”
“You were prepared for her to leave.”
“Yes.”
“Did you want her to leave?”
“Yes.”
Dr Hopper scribbled something, and looked up again.
“Last time, you told me that you loved her then, and you love her now,” he said.
“Yes.” A tiny word, breathed into the air.
“Have you told her that?”
Gold shook his head.
“Why not?”
A shrug. Dr Hopper looked thoughtful.
“You said earlier that she told you that she still loves you,” he said.
“Yes.”
“Why do you think she told you?”
Gold scratched at the back of his neck, feeling uncomfortable.
“I don’t know,” he said. “She wanted to be honest with me, I suppose. She wanted me to hear the truth.”
“Don’t you think she wants to hear the truth from you?”
He sighed again, sitting back a little, hands on his knees.
“She doesn’t trust me,” he said. “So why would she trust that?”
“Have you lied to her before?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“When I broke up with her.” Gold shifted in his seat, shaking his head. “I said such - such terrible things to her. I didn’t mean them - at least - at least I meant to say them, but they weren’t true. Nothing I told her was true.”
“Then why did you say them?”
“Because I wanted her to leave,” he said simply. “I wanted her to move on, to leave Storybrooke, to go on with her life, not be trapped here.”
“Last time we met, you said you broke up with her because you had nothing to give her,” said Dr Hopper. “Do you still feel that way?”
“Yes.”
“But since then, you’ve been helping her,” he said. “Taking care of her, providing for her.”
“I suppose.”
“Alright.” Dr Hopper scribbled something briefly, and put down his pencil. “Do you think Belle knows that you didn’t mean the things you said?”
Gold shrugged, and Dr Hopper nodded.
“I want you to do something,” he said. “I want you to talk to her about that night, and tell her what you told me.”
Gold’s mouth twisted.
“What if she won’t talk about it?”
“She may not want to right away,” agreed Dr Hopper. “But as I said, being open with one another is going to take some work on both sides.”
Gold shook his head, looking at his interlaced fingers.
“I don’t know if she can forgive me,” he said quietly. “I don’t forgive myself.”
“It can often be easier to forgive those we love than forgive ourselves,” said Dr Hopper. “Especially when there’s genuine remorse, and a desire to do better in future. You’ll only know if you talk to her. Can you do that?”
Silence. The clock ticked, and Gold remembered the stricken look on Belle’s face the night their relationship ended, the raw grief and devastation as he broke her heart with deliberate cruelty. He didn’t deserve her forgiveness, but she needed his apology. She needed the truth from him.
“I’ll tell her,” he said. “If she’ll let me.”

I am determined to fill and get me my Free Meal(tm)!!!
2 pairs of headphones, usually one bluetooth and one wired. im paranoid I would be music-less for the day and I have to listen to the cacophony that is rush hour in a metropolitan city...squeaking breaks and honking and people im trying to pretend I didn't recognize or see.......
my phone...usually attached to life support (my external battery) bc my grandpa phone is just barely hanging in there.....and so am I
a container of liquid -- be it my baby pink contigo water bottle for warmer days or my pastel pink s’well bottle full of tea for colder days, or my ridiculous infuser bottle for when I want to be ~aesthetic~ (or when my fruits are about to go bad lmfAO)
my keys. its attached to a pink cherry blossom S keychain I got when I went to DC, a swiss army knife, a small alarm, and a (you guessed it) pink karabiner bc im scared I would accidentally drop it when im rummaging for sthing in my bag.
5 things you’ll find in my room:
books. shelves of books. piles of books. leaning towers of books. books underneath my folded laundry. books piled on top of my planner. books using my clear case of earrings as a book-end. so. many. books. in fact I once rearranged my shelf of favourite henle music sheets and found another row of piano books right behind it 😭
ticket stubs...from concerts or movies or musicals or festivals
‘smelly goop’ as my mom calls it -- lotions, creams, gels, oils, emulsions, balms, masks etc etc....I just want to feel and smell nice😭
post-it notes. post-its on the wall in front of my desk of due dates, post-its on the doorway to remind me to bring my WPK (wallet phone keys), post-its on my drawers to remind me to fold laundry etc etc
a plethora of decorative pillows and stuffies and throws and rugs. bc I have never grown up past 3 yo and I like snuggling with giant soft things.
5 of my favorite things
food! good food delicious food gourmet food fast food junk food....my single brain cell requires two (2) things to run: bangtan and food
my friends and family and moots and followers 💕 happy valentines day I hope you get showered in love today and also every day 💕
music
any paper crafts...paper patterns, calligraphy, kirigami, origami etcetc
books and reading. obviously. my room back home can probably double as the second library at this point.
5 things I’m into right now
making sure everyone I know knows that they are loved
baking really complex recipes from scratch...though there really arent any family-sized convection ovens in e. asia...so I just have my aunt’s small microwave oven...or try to use a steamer OTL ya girl just wants to eat a nice and moist Black Forest cake 😭😭😭
art conservation...esp. people removing really dirty and discolored varnishes off old painting
watching/listening to people recreate instrumentals of different pop songs
traditional artisans making their traditional crafts ie. pottery or garment making etcetc
5 things on my to-do list:
get new headphones...my cousin accidentally dropped my earbuds into a boiling pot of congee the other day.....dont ask
catch up on Bangtan Run and Bomb eps 😓 im sorry im a bad army
reply to my emails...actually wait. find my motivation to reply to emails, then actually go about replying to emails

8 Useful Tips How to Properly Take Care of Your Tile and Wood Flooring
Floors come in different choices, You could choose whether ceramic tiles or wood floors.   Let BN&E Enterprise Construction Services install the flooring you dream of in your home.
Tile remains an attractive choice among homeowners.  Tile floors are durable, waterproof, easy to install and available in an array of styles. Most importantly, they don’t require as much maintenance as carpets do.
Wood floors are gorgeous. They add character and are easy to look after.
BN&E Enterprise construction services are experts in install and refinish wood floors.
Once wood floors start to look dull and worn, no amount of cleaning can bring them back to life. Wood floor coatings are designed to last for 10 years. So why do some floors look dull and worn after 5 years or less and others still look great after 15 years? The type of coating used and the way it was applied contributes to the life of a wood floor, but it really comes down to how the floor has been looked after. However, if you want your floors looking like new for years, even if its ceramic tile or wood floors, you should know how to clean them properly. So here are 8 tips on how to properly take care of your tile and wood flooring:
1.    Sweep the floor. Dirt adheres easily to the surface of ceramic tile, especially styles with textured surfaces. Regular sweeping loosens and removes most dirt. A vacuum cleaner can also be used to sweep, but make sure you use one without a beater bar to avoid dulling and scratching the tiles. Vacuum cleaner attachments are great to suck up dirt along edges or in between tiles.
2.    Use mats to keep dirt being from coming into your home. And shake them out often. This will reduce the amount of dirt being tracked across your ceramic tile floor and wood floors, and will reduce the wear to the finished surface. Place a natural or colorfast mat at outside entrances to reduce the amount of dirt and moisture brought into your home. Use area rugs in front of kitchen sinks and within high traffic areas. Rugs must be made of a breathable material to prevent moisture entrapment — and rugs with solid rubber or vinyl backings are not recommended.
3.    Wipe up spills immediately. Wipe up everyday spills straightaway with a dry cloth or paper towel.
4.    Keep your pet's nails trimmed to minimize finish scratches.
5.    Use floor protectors on furniture to reduce indentation. The heavier the item, the wider the floor protector needed. Dragging furniture or heavy objects across them. To avoid scratching the floors, fit the underneath of all furniture legs with protective pads. Check that dust and grime don’t build up under the pads over time, as this, too, can cause scratches if you slide the furniture.
6.    DON’T walk on wood floors with a spike or stiletto-heeled shoes. Remove shoes at the door to avoid potentially dragging in sharp objects that may be stuck in your shoe treads.
7.    DON’T use any of the following products (or products similar in nature) on your floor: ammonia-based cleaners, acrylic finishes, wax-based products, solvent-based polishes, detergents, bleach, polishes, oil soap, abrasive cleaning soaps, or acidic substances such as vinegar. Only use a designated hardwood floor cleaner.
8.    Professional service cleaning must be done annually. Over time, though, if the wood floors and tile floors are not maintained properly, they can lose their beauty. Scheduling professional wood and tile cleaning and refinishing of your floors has many benefits. The first is keeping your floor's appearance at its best beauty all the time, and the second is excluding the need to go through the painful and expensive process.
Your floors set the look and feel for your home, they are also a big investment and you want them looking their best, hardwood floors, tiles and laminate flooring are all guilty of showing up dust and dirt as soon as the light hits them - really frustrating.  When it comes to floors what do we want? We want to be able to clean them quickly, effectively and to make sure the products we use to leave our floors looking beautiful while caring for them in the process. Like other areas of the home, the best maintenance is always precautionary rather than reactionary. If you follow these steps and regularly clean your tile floors, they will look as good as new for years to come.
Your flooring install is unique to your home – should you really be settling for an installation that doesn’t take all the factors into account? After all, with a wide variety of flooring options, you deserve to have an expert who knows how to install your floor properly in the individual aspects of your space.

Pink bedroom ideas that can be pretty and peaceful, or punchy and playful
We've found new and creative ways to think pink
With tones from subtle blush to full-on fuchsia, pink is a surprisingly versatile colour choice for a bedroom. And it’s definitely not a shade that should be confined to little girls’ rooms. The right pink is out there for everyone, as you’ll see from our wide-ranging selection of pink bedroom ideas.
If you’re a follower of fashion, you’ll know that pale powder and blush pinks – and specifically Millennial pink – are having a moment. The great thing about this blush colour is its slightly beige tint, which takes it away from the sickly sweet end of the spectrum and into more sophisticated, androgynous territory.
Work it with grey, beige or greige paint and fabrics, and wooden furniture with either a very night Nordic or dark walnut finish for an instant styling success.
Another joyful colour in 2020: Yellow bedroom ideas for sunny mornings and sweet dreams
For a more fun take on things, we’d recommend a deep hot pink. It’s a daring pick, but one that will have you bounding out of bed every morning, full of energy.
There are several ways you can take on this colour, one being to use a white backdrop and accessorise with similarly strong shades of cobalt blue and sunshine yellow – think Bluebellgrey. Or you could tone it down with fresh spring greens – a good way to go if you like a vibrant country look.
Scroll on to see these and more ways to use pink in your bedroom.
1. Pick the perfect peachy pink
Image credit: Jo Henderson; Stylist: Gemma Gear
Flesh toned pinks and pretty peach shades are perfect for creating a relaxing bedroom. Add deeper hues of coral pink and terrocotta, along with a splash of contrasting denim blue, for a crisp clean look.
Subtle colours can sometimes need pattern to give them interest, so throw in some ‘geo’ scatter cushions and a ‘painterly’ rug to liven up the look. Give it a Scandi twist with blonde wood furniture and simple ceramics.
2. Make greenery pop in a neutral scheme
Styling: Gemma Gear; Image credit: Jo Henderson
Buy now: Biface storage headboard, £399, La Redoute
Immerse yourself in an earthy palette of pale pinks, sage greens and terrocotta. This flesh toned pink is the perfect backdrop for the mid-green bedding and warm oak headboard, and with the addition of pots filled with fresh foliage and oversized palm leaves, it creates an almost tropical feel.
3. Pick blousey blooms
Introducing pink doesn’t mean you have to go with a huge block of colour. Bringing in splashes of the hue against a dark background like this giant wall mural is a sophisticated way to bring it into your bedroom.
Wall murals like this one can be found at surfaceview.co.uk. Pick out the different tones with your bed linen and a rug to pull the scheme together.
4. Go for a candy crush
Prevent candy pink from looking too sickly sweet by balancing it with zingy citrus yellows and cool blues. This colour combo works extremely well together and is reminiscent of pastel hued retro sweets.
The look can be grounded with a neutral floor and splashes of grey, which will give it a more grown-up feel too.
5. Deepen the shades
Once you’ve picked the shade you like most for your walls, bring in darker versions of it from the same spectrum to highlight a dado rail or soft furnishings.
This salmon pink has reddish tones, so the rich rust tones of the upholstered bed, the rug and the footstool, work really well with it.
6. Leave a gap
Bringing in a wall colour can feel overwhelming to some, so keep your pink bedroom on the serene side by choosing a pale shade with beige or yellowish undertones and paint only up to the dado rail.
If you don’t have a dado rail, it doesn’t matter, mark a line around the room that you paint the colour up to and use white paint above and on your ceiling.
7. Use pretty fabrics
If changing your paint colour is too big a job right now, bring in pink with some fabrics in pale and dark tones and create a pretty canopy to hang over the bed. Add some cushions and you’ll create a cocoon that you won’t want to leave.
8. Embrace summer with sunbaked style
Mediterranean shades lend earthy warmth to interior and bring a holiday feel to your bedroom. Paint a feature wall in a chalky rose finish to bring soft glow to your colour scheme, then add eclectic accessories in rustic, sun-kissed tones.
Celebrate traditional craftsmanship, organic forms and touchable textures with hand-woven pieces and artisan makes in clay, cotton, wood and rattan. Bedlinen, throws and cushions are enhanced with tufting and trims for relaxed glamour.
9. Snuggle up with shades of rose pink
Add accents of heart-warming pink hues with layers of luxury linen, chunky knits and soft chenille accessories and furnishings. Tactile soul-soothing textures can bring comfort when it’s cold outside. Pom-poms and tassels add a playful touch to this elegant look.

10. Start with a cushion
Inspiration for this scheme came from the plump pink cushions used to dress the bed. The owner then found an inexpensive paint for the walls that’s a perfect match – all proving a pink bedroom transformation needn’t cost a fortune. The addition of charcoal blinds and a monochrome rug and cushions ensure things don’t stray too far into girlie territory.
Get the look Buy now: Normandy 2 Drawer Bedside Table, £129, Ideal Home at Very
11. Layer up powder pink with a hint of modern monochrome
We can’t take our eyes off this stunning room scheme, which is proof – if any were needed – that pink can be classy and restful. In fact, here, it’s almost a neutral – a barely-there flush of femininity.
The matt grey lighting, spot bedding and rustic wood furniture create a cool contrast against the pretty pink, giving the space a quiet sophistication.
Get the look Buy now: Bailey Pendant Light, £24.99, Ideal Home at Very
12. Style shabby chic furniture with a scaled-up pink floral
Shabby chic gets a modern makeover with vintage florals in cleaner colours and crisper designs. To emulate this look, mix cottage-garden motifs with spots, texture and crips white linen. Then accesorise with zinc, enamel and aged wood for that lived in feel. Blooming lovely!
13. Pair pink and plum for a modern vintage look
A classic pastel pink gives this room obvious feminine appeal, but decadent touches keep things grown up. The deep stack of pillows, elegant jacquard curtains and chic glass handles all say ‘hotel style’, while textured throws add luxe, colour and extra warmth.
Top tip: Got a blank space crying out for a little love? personalise it with a collection of antique-style mirrors and farmed artwork.
14. Combine plaster pink with Mid-Century classics
Plaster pink is a goes-with-anything shade that will see you through the seasons. It brings subtle glamour to the scheme, and tones in beautifully with the natural bedding and flooring and iconic Ercol bed frame and dressing table.
Top tip: Freshen and add definition to a cosy neutral bedroom with hits of pure brilliant white on paintwork, fabrics and pieces of art.
15. Use pink as a backdrop to gold and grey
Mix soft pink and rustic textures with a touch of polish in the form of high-shine gold details, for a cosy but chic bedroom. This shell pink adds a warmer, more feminine feel that blends with neutrals without creating a contrast.
Top tip: Hang a trio of bare-bulb pendants low by the bed so they can be used to read by.
16. Frame bold fuchsia pink tones against a white backdrop
Bring an instant hit of tropical summer to your bedroom all year around with bright bed linen and vibrant floral patterns. White makes for a very versatile backdrop, allowing the colours to pop yet not overwhelm. You really need to have confidence with this look, and stick with strong shades throughout to be truly successful. Using a print on the wall can help tie things together – if you can’t find the right artwork, try framing a swatch of wallpaper in a complementary fabric.
Top tip: Increase the storage options in your bedroom with a smart ottoman upholstered in your favourite fabric.
17. Clash patterns in hot pink
Ok, it looks scary, but be brave with this rich pink shade and it’ll make your room feel bright all summer and warm in winter. Blocks of plain fuchsia on a wall can be overbearing, so it’s good to break up the colour by using pattern. A sunny yellow light not have been your first though as an accent, but it’s the perfect addition here. Touches of brass, gold or silver will also look great – but copper? Not so much…

5 Things You Must Do Before Calling for a Car Removal Service
Tumblr media
Do you have an old or damaged car rusting away in your backyard and you don’t know what to do with it?
If your car has finally reached the end of its life, or maybe you are stuck in the middle of the road and your car decided that it’s time to lay rest, it’s time to send it to a junk shop or a car maintenance shop.
Removing unwanted, old and junk cars to make space for new ones is a big decision. It helps you in removing cars or vehicles which may not be in good condition or which may have some damaged parts. That’s why you have to think and decide carefully before anything else.
What do we do before calling for car removal services in Cape Coral?
1. Clean It Out
Your car probably features several items and assorted odds and ends in addition to your registration and roadside kit. Give the car a thorough clean    out that includes removing everything from the trunk, glove compartment, and door and seat pockets. Check under the rugs and in every crevice to make certain the vehicle is free of your personal belongings.
2. Iron out the Paperwork
Although it’s possible to junk your car without documents showing proof of ownership, dealers will likely knock you off.
Getting your car title in order enables you to transfer ownership to the dealer. This way, if something unforeseen happens – like if the car gets stolen from the junkyard before it’s crushed flat – no one will ask you to take part in a theft investigation.
If you can’t find your title, don’t freak out.
Head over to your state’s department of motor vehicles and get it replaced.
3. Siphon Any Remaining Fuel
If your car is still driveable, use up the remaining gas before calling a car removal service. Should the vehicle be inoperable, siphon the remaining fuel so the car removal professionals do not have to do it. Siphoning the fuel is also an eco-friendly measure because it prevents potential leaks.
4. Dispose of any toxic substance
Aside from gasoline, any car has plenty of fluid chemicals in it which is essential for its proper functioning. It is extremely important that these chemicals must be disposed of with care and caution as these are highly toxic substances. All the car wreckers have a developed protocol that is followed while handling these chemicals. These substances include antifreeze, battery acid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid, etc. If disposed in open, these chemicals can become a cause of many diseases alongside polluting the soil and water bodies around them. The service providers make sure that they properly dispose of all these chemicals to avoid any damage from these substances.
5. Don’t rush
This is one thing that you should never do when hiring a car removal company in Cape Coral. When you rush you are more likely to make a mistake you are likely going to regret. Don’t be deceived by the outward appearance of a car removal company. Check the quality of their services, do deep and detailed research on how good their services are. Take your time to find out all the information you need to make a decision.
Cape Coral Towing & Recovery Inc. can remove abandoned vehicles from the roads and transport them to the appropriate lots for later pick-up, auction or transport depending on the owner. 6 Ways to Banish Mildew Smells in the Bathroom
baona/iStock
Have you ever walked into your bathroom and thought: My God! What is that smell?  Mildew could be to blame for transforming your special oasis into stink central. Don’t panic, we’re here to help.
Mildew, or mold in its early stage, tends to be found in wet, moisture-prone areas. It looks grayish-white but can turn brown over time. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, mildew can grow on wood products, ceiling tiles, insulation, wallpaper, carpet, drywall, fabric, plants, and other organic materials that are commonly found in bathrooms. And once the fungus makes its way onto your precious towels and tiles, you need to get serious about eradicating it.
You can get rid of that mildew misery and restore your bathroom to its former lavender-scented glory in no time.
“Minor mold issues can usually be addressed by most homeowners with a little cleanup,” says Gregory Frazier, with Art Plumbing, AC & Electric, in Coral Springs, FL.
Ready to scrub away that stale stink? Here’s how.
1. Wash it
The first step to battling the mildew stench is to wash everything. This means washing those hand-towels that have been hanging in the bathroom forever, the musty bathroom rugs, and the stale window curtains. When laundering, experts suggest adding one cup of white vinegar to wash the load. Frequently wash your nonslip mats, too. And, toss that vinyl shower curtain and replace it with a washable cotton, hemp, or nylon shower curtain.
“Bleach can be used to clean the mildew source and stop it from growing,” says Gina Perry, senior merchant of cleaning at The Home Depot in Atlanta.
For items that can withstand bleach, FEMA recommends using a 10% solution or 1.25 to 1.5 cup of bleach to a gallon of water. The bleach/water solution can also be used to wipe down shower doors, cabinets, and walls, and to mop hard floors around bathtubs and toilets.
2. Address any water issues
Water can be the big culprit behind that nasty smell. “You can get a mildew smell if you have a slow drain leak under a sink or around a drain,” says Frazier. He says the same thing can happen with toilets if a wax ring seal, which seals the toilet to the flange, has a slight leak that is allowing small amounts of water to seep out under the toilet.
“The fix is to repair the leak promptly and wipe the area that got wet down with a strong, bleach-based cleaner,” Frazier says.
Bathtubs can also occasionally get a mildew smell if they’re not properly sealed and if small amounts of water get between the wall and the tub. A bleaching solution can scrub away mildew on top of caulk, but if it’s underneath, it will need to be completely removed and properly recaulked.
3. Let the bathroom breathe
Dark, damp, warm rooms make for a happy home for mildew to thrive. To remedy this, open the windows and let fresh air in. If you don’t have a window in the bathroom, keep the bathroom door cracked open when showering. If you need more privacy and prefer to shower with the door closed (no judgment!), install a ceiling fan or consider running an electric fan to keep air moving. Open your cabinets so they can get fresh air, too.
“I find one of the biggest things homeowners can do to combat mildew smells in bathrooms is to ensure they have a properly functioning, properly sized exhaust fan,” says Frazier.
4. Use an air purifier
Mildew reeks, but it can also make people with allergies or asthma sick or irritate their eyes, nose, throat, and lungs.
Sara Alsén, chief purpose officer for Sweden-based Blueair, a leader in air-cleaning solutions, says placing a high-performing air purifier in the bathroom will have a twofold effect: It will remove the unhealthy mold and bacteria in the air and make the smell disappear.
“An air purifier with a high airflow will also increase the air circulation in the bathroom and as such, help fight the mold growth,” she says.
5. Apply a fresh coat of paint
There’s nothing a new paint job can’t cure, right? Try using mold- and mildew-resistant paint.
Rick Watson, director of product information at Sherwin-Williams, says paints with odor-eliminating technology can help inhibit the growth of mold and mildew and reduce common indoor odors, so rooms stay fresher longer.
But make sure to treat the mildew before painting. Bathrooms are splash-prone areas, so lower parts of the walls and corners and edges near the ceiling are typical breeding areas for mildew.
After cleaning, brush a coat of mildew-resistant primer on ceiling and walls to prevent peeling in high-moisture areas. Let the coat of primer dry, then apply the first coat of mildew-resistant paint and say goodbye to that mildew smell.
6. Try an odor eliminator
Odor-absorbing items can help. Charcoal briquettes, an open box of baking soda, or a small pouch of kitty litter can make the bathroom smell fresher by absorbing the odor and the moisture in the air. However, make sure to replace them every month or so. Natural air fresheners, like essential oils or citrus peels, can also cut the stench.
