All’s Fair in Love and War || Snooze
Oh, now this was something right out of Snow’s dreams - a romantic carnival date!
She’d heard so much about the carnival too, in the weeks leading up to it. Ken had fawned about it with her, she’d pestered Robbie Ryeo for some more details...and of course her group chat with the girls had been blowing up, as everyone talked about who they were going to bring. Snow was thankful in that moment that she had someone. She’d forgotten what a great feeling it was-- to have a person. Maybe Bruce wasn’t her boyfriend (yet), but maybe after the carnival...
“Oh wow, everything looks so cute! Ah, I love fall!” Snow squealed, hanging loosely onto Bruce’s arm as they entered the fairgrounds. “You came to this last year, right? What was your favorite part?”

Moon And Sand || Baes + Robbie
@justkeepdancing-nemo @robbie-ryeo
Date: Sometime early January
Marlin and Robbie have a very awkward interaction lol
MARLIN:
A couple days before Nemo moved back into the dorms, they had a couple errands to run so he thought they’d start at Hatter’s with tea, a snack, and the to-do list. Mu-yeol clicked his pen a couple times before finally getting ready to write.
“Okay, so.” Mu-yeol began. “What did we come to town for? I forget. I know we had to go to the market but for what? I’m getting old.”
He wasn’t, not for a fairy anyway. But he was always tired.
And maybe he did forget, or maybe he was hoping to kill another five minutes in Hatter’s for no reason at all.
  NEMO:
Nemo had dreaded coming out. Errands meant that he was going back to school soon. School meant– well, Nemo didn’t know. His head hurt thinking about it, even if he knew he needed to get used to it and not be a coward this time.
So he very much was fine with stalling in Hatter’s for now, blowing a little on his hot cocoa. “Uh, you wanted to go by the market for tupperware…” Nemo mentioned. Appa was determined to send Nemo to school with a tonne of extra meals, convinced that his diet had been one of many factors that contributed to his embarrassing meltdown.
His eyes flicked up at that moment and spotted someone coming through the door. “Robbie!” he blurted, without even thinking about it. It was instinct. Like a sneeze.
  MARLIN:
The neutral facial expression was expected from Mu-yeol. So was calmly sipping his tea. There were also lots of other things that maybe could be expected.
An eye roll, a scoff, a ‘Nam-min, what are you doing?’ among other things, none of which happened.
Instead, he set his tea down and very casually said, “Oh, that’s fortunate actually.”
He turned around in his seat, following Nemo’s eyes, and said while beckoning Robbie over with his palm facing down, “야 Robbie, 이리와, 빨리.” (Ya i-ri-wa, ppal-li.)
  NEMO:
His eyes widened. What?! What was Appa doing?! Nemo had been a blink away for apologizing but now–?!
“Appa–” Nemo hissed. He glanced at Robbie and actually tried to shoo him away, even as Marlin beckoned him forward.
  ROBBIE:
Um.
Robbie hadn’t actually expected to see Nemo in Hatters today, which normally would be a very pleasant surprise. Robbie obviously loved seeing Nemo and he smiled big and bright at first when Nemo called his name. Then Robbie realized that Nemo wasn’t alone and Marlin was with him.
Marlin, who was calling out to him and telling him to come quickly. Cue Robbie’s nervous laughter as he raised his hand in greeting and made his way over to the table. The whole Marlin situation was…delicate to say the least, and Robbie didn’t want to make anything worse by ignoring him or being rude! That’s why, despite Nemo’s shooing, he still sat down at the table.
“안녕하세요,” Robbie said respectfully, dipping his head in a tiny little bow.
  MARLIN:
“안녕,” Marlin returned the greeting, ever so slightly nodding his head to him.
There was a brief silence, no longer than four or five seconds, as Robbie settled into his seat. Mu-yeol ignored Nemo’s slightly agape jaw and looked directly at Robbie.
“I realize I neglected to thank you the other day for helping with Nam-min. I intended to but you can imagine I had a one-track dad mind.” He began in Korean. “So, thank you very much for telling me and everything. 고마워, and I apologize for not thanking you that day.”
  NEMO:
  What was about to happen?!
It could be anything. For a long time Appa and Robbie existed in separate spheres of Nemo's life, which maybe wouldn't be all that weird if they also didn't pretend the other didn't exist. Robbie wasn't as bad as Appa. Robbie did ask about Marlin sometimes, or well, sometimes Nemo talked to Robbie about his abeoji… because how could he not? But with Appa, the rule didn't need to be spoken: don't talk about Robbie. Don't expect Appa to talk about him either. Nemo thought this was stupid and Appa too stubborn, but it was better than being at war. So he followed the rule.
  Now Appa broke the rule.
Terrible visions of an all-out screaming match passed through Nemo's mind. He sat rigid, terrified. If this went bad, what would he do? Defend Robbie? Usher Appa out? Create a diversion?
He definitely didn't expect Appa to thank him.
Nemo blinked several times, but was too shocked to do anything more than that. His eyes darted from father to boyfriend in a dizzying mental game of ping pong.
  ROBBIE:
Robbie wasn't really sure what he was supposed to do or say. This seemed like a normal interaction, one that could happen to anyone, but there were layers. So many layers and those layers weighed on him.
Marlin hated Robbie. That was the first layer and also the hardest one to forget because, in a lot of ways, it was the exact reason they were here in the first place. Marlin hating Robbie had affected his and Nemo’s relationship–they were driven closer together, loved harder, felt things more fiercely in the face of his father's disapproval. Marlin's hatred was a fact.
But then there was the second layer: Robbie wasn't a vampire anymore, the thing that Marlin hated the most, so he wasn't sure where that left them. He knew Marlin still didn't like him, didn't think he was good for Nemo, but Robbie felt that way about Marlin too.
A thing that should be simple, Marlin thanking Robbie, was buried underneath so many hard feelings that the moment was hard to extricate.
  But Robbie had to try.
  For Nemo.
"You're welcome," Robbie said. "Anything to help Nemo, of course." ”
  MARLIN:
Mu-yeol shook his head ever so slightly, a silent signal that, no no, that wasn’t entirely it. It was most of the reason Robbie did what he did, but not all of it. Robbie was mature in ways that Tae and Nemo simply weren’t yet and it made him think harder about things.
“I know being responsible and looking out for someone isn’t always easy, because sometimes you have to do something that might upset them for a moment to ultimately do what’s best.” He sympathized. “I really appreciate you making the choice that was about looking out for him, even if narcing on him to his dad might not have felt right.”
  ROBBIE:
Robbie was maybe a little bit tempted to remind Marlin that he probably knew a little bit more about protecting people and doing things others might not like simply because he'd been alive a lot longer than Marlin, but he knew Marlin really was just a grateful father and it was easy to forget that Robbie was actually over 300 years old.
"It was the right thing to do," he said and then looked at Nemo. "I'm sorry I upset you, Nemo, but I'm really glad you're okay." He reached over and squeezed his boyfriend's hand.
  MARLIN:
Mu-yeol sipped his tea and snorted, rolling his eyes in that way he does when Nemo roasts him accurately or something.
“He was over being mad in five minutes, I promise.” He said, glancing at Nemo. “We were able to work out a plan in time to keep him in school, which is what he wanted, thanks to you.”
He nodded in Robbie’s direction. “And I’m very grateful, again.”
  NEMO:
What was worse? Appa and Robbie hating each other?? Or uh– whatever this was?
Nemo couldn’t decide. Whatever this was, though, was a very specific type of humiliating. They were basically talking like he wasn’t even there! Nemo shrank in his seat a little as his ears went red. This was just so weird and embarrassing. Yah, Appa should have just– well- called Robbie or something! Why did they have to do this in front of him?
But he didn’t dare complain either. He’d wanted something like this for a long time. Just, y’know – a civil conversation.
Once again, his eyes darted between Robbie and Marlin. Appa’s final comment, though, irritated him too much to stay quiet (wasn’t that just the way with fathers?) “Um, I’m here too y’know, I can talk for myself,” Nemo broke in. “Robbie knows I’m not mad at him anymore.”
  MARLIN:
“I’m just assuring him you weren’t too upset about it,” Mu-yeol said, patting Nemo’s hand. “But you’re right, sorry.”
He…didn’t think about this interaction past thanking Robbie actually. And telling him ‘go away now’ would just be rude, though he very much did not want to continue this interaction since he’d just unintentionally pissed Nemo off in front of Robbie, who surely hated him and thought he was a terrible father.
I can speak for myself Aiya Nemo why did you say it like that? As if he was actively not letting you speak and hadn’t just misstepped in reassuring your boyfriend that he hadn’t committed a grave offense.
Anyway. He smiled politely and, in an attempt to escape this situation that he was very aware he had started by calling Robbie over, pushed his tea aside.
“I’ll get out of here.” He sighed, lightly slapping the table. “You don’t need to run errands with me Nam-min if you don’t want.”
  NEMO:
What? Now Appa was leaving?? What?
Well, Nemo didn’t really know what was going on, but he did think that was bad. Agh, he should’ve just shut up! Who cared about his pride? What if this never happened again?!
“No!” Nemo blurted quickly. “I mean! Finish your tea, Appa. Robbie, you can, um, you can join us, right? If you want, I mean, just for a little.”
  MARLIN:
Daebak. He was turning Nemo loose to hangout with his boyfriend and he was rejecting it? Wild stuff. Okay then…
“Ah, I suppose you’re right, I did pay for this one.” Not that Mr. Hatter was unreasonable, but you know, you shouldn't waste something you pay for.
  Sooooo…what now?
  ROBBIE:
Robbie didn’t really want to stay, if he was being honest, although it was a complicated situation and spending time with Nemo was always usually a wonderful way to spend his time. It was just that Marlin made him exceedingly uncomfortable. Especially this new, “Pro-Robbie” Marlin. He couldn’t help but wonder if there were some sort of ulterior motives behind Marlin’s actions, although that was probably a little more the distrusting 300-year-old vampire in him that felt that way.
He wasn’t exactly that person anymore, so he hesitated and then nodded.
“Ah, yes, I’d um–I’d love to stay,” he said with a smile. “Just for a bit, though, like you said. I don’t want to derail father-son time.”
  NEMO:
Nemo also wasn’t sure if this was a good idea, but it was the only chance he might ever have to, hopefully, smooth things over with Appa and Robbie. He didn’t think they’d be friends. There was too much bad stuff between them. But if they could just get to the point of… having a conversation? If Nemo could mention Robbie to Appa without Appa acting like Nemo was committing some great, terrible sin by staying with him? He’d consider it a win.
It was all up to Nemo though. The pressure fell on his shoulders, heavy as rocks. He swallowed and searched his brain for something for both Robbie and Appa to talk about.
“Um, great! So ah, you um, come in here to study or something?” Nemo started here. “Appa, Robbie wants to be a veterinarian. Isn’t that nice?”
  MARLIN:
“Ah, it’s not really— we’re not — errands aren’t anything special. I’m sure he’d rather be still asleep.”
Marlin bit back the knee-jerk instinct to say ‘no money in that,’ even if it was true. There wasn’t much money in professional dance either, not unless you got to star choreographer level, and yet he was financing his son’s dream of that.
“That’ll be nice.” Mu-yeol said. What was he supposed to say? He wanted out of this situation. “If he came to study, why don’t you help him?”
The let me get out of here was tacitly encouraged, though his expression and mannerisms remained calm. Cool. A little too chill.
He sipped at his tea and, reluctantly, said something else. “How many years of school left?” There. Fine. He did Nemo, he asked a question.
  ROBBIE:
Robbie frowned, just a bit, at Marlin’s attempt to get out of spending time with his son. It was clear Nemo still wanted to spend time with him and here Marlin was trying to get Nemo to stay in the coffee shop with Robbie. Either that or it was a dig at Nemo not studying, in which case Robbie wanted to tear his head off, but he suppressed that particular thought. Ha.
The question Marlin asked caught Robbie off-guard and he blinked. He’d been so lost in his thoughts. “Oh, um, like four still. Probably. I mean, I want to do it the right way, actually go through all of the courses even if I know a lot of it. Plus there really is so much I don’t know yet. Animals were never something that I studied much, even though I’ve always loved them.”
  NEMO:
“He’s good with them too,” Nemo chimed in.
Maybe that hadn’t always been true. As a vampire, Robbie naturally frightened off many animals who could sense that he was a powerful predator. But even then, he’d been gentle with Lovely, and Lovely had quickly trusted Robbie. Now, he was quite the happy little hamster and always squeaked and purred. And Robbie also got on well with all the animals at Ruff to Fluff–
Daebak. Did Marlin know Robbie worked there now? Nemo had no idea. Probably not, considering the unspoken don’t-talk-about-Robbie rule.
“He um, he even started working at Ruff to Fluff. So he’s getting lots of practice with animals. I’m sure he’ll be great.” Nemo flashed a smile at Robbie and squeezed his hand again– under the table.
  MARLIN:
“I’d hope you’re good with them. You’ll probably get bitten at least thirty percent less if you’ve actually got a way with animals.” Mu-yeol said, sticking with easy, inoffensive small talk.
He didn’t comment on him working with Nemo which was a tacit approval.
“Does pride u have a vet program? Or do you have to look at other vet schools?”
  ROBBIE:
"Pride U has a vet program which is great because I was already an established student. I also really like Pride U and Swynlake and I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere else."
Robbie looked at Marlin and then back at Nemo, fidgeting. He hoped he was doing okay. Was he passing the dad test? He hated this.
  NEMO:
This was awkward. This was uncomfortable. He knew that Robbie and Appa both didn’t want to be having this conversation and Nemo forced it on them.
Despite all of this, Nemo thought it was going well. Sure, it was stilted! But it was better than ignoring the other’s existence!
So Nemo smiled. “Yeah, and there’s even the special clinic for magical creatures! I dunno if Robbie will do anything with that but– it’s pretty cool. I bet Pride U’s the only school in England with something like that.”
  MARLIN:
He was not even administering the dad test yet, actually. Thanking him was an olive branch and this conversation stood in place of a proper introduction. The dad test was something for later, closer to if and when he actually decided Robbie was, say, welcome to celebrate Chuseok with them. This tense conversation was simply a knee-deep wade in the water for Nemo’s benefit.
Mu-yeol wasn’t sure if Nemo so blatantly selling him made this more or less awkward.
“Can’t imagine one anywhere else,” Mu-yeol said. “Have you thought about where you might want to start practicing, if not here? Years away, but. Always smart to look into areas where vet practitioners are needed.”
  ROBBIE:
“With the forest being so close to here, I always sort of assumed I’d stay in Swynlake, or somewhere near here. The Inn is my home–has been my home for awhile and leaving it isn’t really something I’d want to do. There are plenty of opportunities around here, which is nice. So many animals I can help. I think it’s that way everywhere, though, so really if I changed my mind it wouldn’t be too hard to find somewhere that needed a vet.
Robbie looked down at his hands and then back up at Marlin. “My goal is to help as many animals as possible. I guess it doesn’t really matter where I go.”
  MARLIN:
Perhaps as a fairy he should find this endearing. ‘I just want to help animals’ should strike all sorts of chords with him. It was sweet, and admirable, but nothing more than ‘that’s nice’ came to his mind. He had to admit it was a lovely goal to have, and knew he should, as a fairy, be impressed.
Mu-yeol recognized this as coming not from a place of distaste for Robbie’s ambitions — they were perfectly fine — but from the same place as  his own father’s ambivalence to So-yeon’s goals, and Bae Tae-il had adored his daughter-in-law. Mu-yeol was hardened the way his father was, where lofty, sugar-sweet dreams like ‘I want to save the environment’ and ‘I just want to take care of animals’ came across as idealistic and trite.
He supposed it was better than Robbie having no direction at all; no, he knew it was much better. And to his credit, it was achievable. Unlike the ambitions So-yeon had that he fell in love with. Animals wanted to be helped. Humans did not want to take care of their planet.
“That’s nice,” was still all he said. He didn’t know what else to say to that. But he did smile.
  NEMO:
“Yeah!” Nemo said, more enthusiastically which was in part for Robbie–well, mostly for him– but for Appa too.
After all, he noticed Appa’s smile. Even if it was just polite and forced, Nemo wanted to encourage it. If he was happy and bright, maybe Appa would finally see that Robbie was good for him. And he really was, on paper. He was smart, he was diligent, he got amazing grades and worked hard. He could teach Nemo good study habits! (Well, he could try. Nemo wasn’t sure there was anything Robbie could do for his windswept brain.)
“It’s really hard stuff, honestly, but Robbie’s smart so he can do it,” mentioned Nemo. He wasn’t sure what else to say now… he needed to transition into another topic, probably, since Appa and Robbie were so painfully awkward with each other…
“We um, still practice Hangul,” was what he came up with. Welp. Better than nothing.
  ROBBIE:
  That’s nice.
Robbie almost wanted to laugh. It was nice, wasn’t it? Him wanting to help animals. So why did it make his stomach churn just a little when Marlin said it? Probably because Marlin still didn’t like him, despite how hard he was trying to seem like maybe he did. Or maybe Robbie wasn’t being fair. Maybe it was Robbie who was seeing the worst in Marlin when it wasn’t really there. Either way, Robbie was trying very hard not to seem annoyed or offended so he smiled.
“We do,” Robbie said. “Nemo is doing great. Pretty soon he’ll be writing in Korean for everything.”
  MARLIN:
“I’m glad someone eventually convinced him to learn Hangul.” Mu-yeol said, even if it had hurt a little that Nemo was never interested in it before Robbie. He tried so hard to give his son their language, culture, and history despite living abroad, but teaching Nemo to read and write in Korean was an uphill battle that he gave up on early on.
If he really fought Nemo on it, he could have made him. Just like he required Nemo to speak to him in Korean at home and tried to encourage it in public, he could have imposed mandatory hangul practice. But with how much Nemo protested he worried that Nemo would reject their language fully if he made too big a deal out of it.
He didn’t want Nemo to associate Korean with punishment or consider it a chore. He’d rather his son not be able to read in Korean but speak it well with his father, than struggle to communicate with his son fully because he refused to use a language imposed on him. No matter how fluent Mu-yeol was in English, it was much easier for him to talk about important topics in their native language, and the thought of losing that connection with Nam-min…yes, giving up on Hangul was worth it.
“Though, we don’t really use written language in pixie hollows, so I get why when he was six he was like ‘how about no.’  I’m very impressed with his progress in so little time, thank you, Robbie.” He turned to Nemo and smiled. “Your handwriting has gotten really nice, pretty much as neat as your English handwriting. And good with your double consonants now, Appa’s very proud.”
This…this was finally feeling bearable. Talking about Korean things, he could do this easily.
  NEMO:
Hey, Nemo would take it. Even if there was what Nemo felt was a hint of passive-aggressiveness in Appa’s tone. At least that passive-aggressiveness was toward Nemo and not Robbie, and maybe Nemo even deserved it. He could look back at his childhood and regret his own reluctance to practice his Korean. All the reasons he had then had been selfish– worse, they’d been reasons rooted in shame. And Nemo wasn’t ashamed of being Korean or anything, it was just…well, he’d already been so different as a kid, since he wasn’t born in Enchantra and his whole wing thing and he didn’t even have two parents like most seedlings and and and…
Whatever. He squirmed, swallowed down his embarrassment, and took it. At least he was fixing things now.
“Thanks. Um, Robbie’s a real good teacher,” mentioned Nemo.
  ROBBIE:
Robbie wasn’t sure it was his teaching so much as it was that he wasn’t Marlin. Sometimes it was easier to be interested in things if your peers were the ones talking about it than when it was your parents. So Robbie definitely had that on his side. Plus, “I try, but it helps that you’re interested and you put in the effort. It also helps that I have a lot of practice too,” he added.
Robbie wanted to say that when you do something for 300 plus years you end up rather proficient, but he figured maybe that kind of comment wouldn’t go over so well.
Still he really wanted to say it.
  He didn’t.
  MARLIN:
Mu-yeol didn’t know how to keep this conversation…safe. It was awkward. He was awkward. Robbie was awkward. Nemo was awkward.
Aish couldn’t he just thank Robbie and do interacting later? No. All right, ask something, come on Mu-yeol.
“Nam-min. If Robbie isn’t busy today I can go to the market myself. You can stay with him if you’d rather.” He said instead. His gaze only briefly landed on Robbie but it was disinterested at worst rather than poison. “But if you came to study Robbie I’ll —“ he clicked his tongue and mimed removing the Nemo distraction.
  ROBBIE:
Robbie didn't want to interrupt Nemo and Marlin’s day any more than he already had. He actually hated it, to be honest, because Marlin made him feel so awkward and uncomfortable. That was definitely something he would need to work on in the future, but not today.
Plus, Marlin had already tried to leave once and Nemo had said not to go. He clearly didn't want to ditch his father for Robbie, nor should he, and really the only thing to do was bow out gracefully. Take the pressure off of Nemo instead of piling it on.
"Oh, you guys already had plans," Robbie said with a smile. "It was really nice having tea with you, but I really do have a few things I need to go do." He turned and looked at Nemo, "We should hang out later, though, if you want."
Then he looked at Marlin. "It was nice talking to you."
  MARLIN:
Mu-yeol nodded and politely ever so slightly bowed his head at Robbie as he got ready to leave. Nice was a generous way of describing it, it had been painfully awkward, but it was…fine. And you know, ‘fine’ for them was the same as nice. It was practically rainbows and butterflies.
“어 (eo),” Mu-yeol said, figuring it was good to agree it was nice. “Thank you for having tea with us.”
There. He was nice, welcoming even, no matter how…cautious. Nemo would appreciate that, right?
He cast a furtive glance over at Nemo right before he finished off his tea.
  NEMO:
Nemo was relieved that he didn’t have to choose – Robbie removed that pressure from him.
Because no matter what, he felt like there weren’t have been a right choice, right? If he stayed with Appa, Appa would insist he went with Robbie, and if he stayed with Robbie, Robbie might insist he go with Appa. It was dumb. There shouldn’t be all these unseen pressures, all these put-on manners. Wistfully, Nemo imagined what it might have been like if several years ago, Marlin hadn’t turned so quickly on Robbie. If they had started to heal earlier. Maybe running into each other would have been easy, even natural.
At least things were healing now though, right? Better late than never. Nemo should stay optimistic.
And so he just smiled and nodded. “Yeah, I’ll text you! C’mon Appa, the market calls,” he joked, also getting up.
And with a wave at Robbie, the Baes left Hatter’s.

Finding Nemo: How To Land
“I’ve said several times that I’m afraid of falling but not landing. And the difference between falling and landing is that landing means that you can take off again...So, no matter how desperate the situation is, if we choose landing instead of falling, choose not to give up, and just land, we’re ready to fly again.” -Min Yoongi

Summary: Robbie rats out Nemo to Marlin. They go on a road trip to bring Nemo home. Takes place December 14. tw: anxiety, depression

Marlin x Robbie Texts
Marlin: [deleted] idk why I’m bother—
Marlin: have you heard from Nam-min
Marlin: Olaf called and said he skipped his exams and isn’t in the dorms. He hasn’t answered me
Marlin: what do you know?
Robbie: Im going to assume this is Marlin.
Robbie: Hello to you too
Robbie: Ugh, he left, though and he told me about it. I know where he is but I was hoping he would be back by now :(
Marlin: And nobody thought to tell me my son disappeared aiya this is great, I bet Tae knows too, eo?
Marlin: Tell me where he is.
Robbie: he's actually with Tae I could take you there.
Robbie: to be honest I want to go get him too
Marlin: of course he’s wife Tae, who else would encourage him to run away at least you’re more responsible 🙄
Marlin: So it’s far away, mm
Robbie: yeah they went camping. Where are you I can come pick you up.
Marlin: In town, near the market
Robbie: I'll be right there
ROBBIE:
Spending the last what felt like 17 hours in the car with Marlin Bae had not been ideal. It wasn’t terrible, but the offhand comments about his driving were…annoying to say the least. Was it really so bad to obey traffic laws? Yes, he understood that perhaps they were in a rush because seeing Nemo and making sure he was okay, those things were important, but if they died on the way to the campsite who did that benefit?
Anyway, they were here now and Robbie pulled into the nearest parking space and shut off the engine. The guilt bubbled inside of him as he wondered how furious Nemo would be with him when he saw him approaching with his father of all people. Maybe Robbie should’ve kept his mouth shut, but he was worried same as Marlin and well, anxiety did things to a person. Nemo would eventually understand.
Maybe.
“I think that’s Tae’s truck over there,” Robbie said, pointing to the familiar farm truck. “They can’t be that far–”
Robbie abruptly stopped talking as he spotted Nemo. Nemo hadn’t seen him yet, but suddenly this felt like a much worse idea than it had two minutes ago. Nemo was clearly fine and smiling and—fuck he was going to hate Robbie.
MARLIN:
Mu-yeol was angry but it was less about Nemo skipping exams and running away than it was about…Nemo not talking to him. What was all that bullshit about how they were a team and in it together, huh? He let Nemo work instead of him handling it all with a second human job because Nemo insisted. But school, work, his Hollow duties, his social life…maybe something or multiple something’s had to give. He worried about as much. But always thought Nam-min would come to him and talk about it.
He buried that anger because it was right to feel but wrong to express, and simply said. “Nam-min ah. Did you not think I should know my son is skipping town?”
Because look. The real root of his anger wasn’t that Nam-min must not be taking to school well, because he didn’t expect his son to be his mother. It was a little that Nemo didn’t tell him and a little that Nemo ran off and let Olaf tell him his son was missing. He was an adult and could make these choices. But an “Appa I’m dropping out and need a few days camping with Tae to clear my head” would have sufficed. Maybe he’d try to talk him out of it but he wouldn’t force Nemo to take his exams if he didn’t want to.
Was he worried he would?
“You really should make your escape plans a little more logically.” He gently, sarcastically chastised him, moving to sit down next to him.
He looked around at Tae and Robbie and sighed. “Both of you, forget how to speak Korean.”
NEMO: The first few hours into escape, Nemo felt amazing. Weightless. Free. For the first time in moons, there wasn’t something that he was going to have to rush to, or come from, or do. He was just going to curl up with Tae in the back of the truck and become a stranger in the middle of nowhere. He even turned off his phone, after fixing things with Robbie (kind of.)
And things really were good. That first night, they nicked into a gas station for snacks and cheap coffee. They listened to albums and talked and then went for a walk ‘round the campsite, just a short one, before falling asleep in the truck just like they talked about.
When the next morning came though, the pit in Nemo’s stomach had returned. His brain kept buzzing, telling him he was making a huge mistake. He was trying to ignore it though, because what was the alternative?
He and Tae were gonna go make smores– yeah, this early in the morning, why not?-- when Nemo’s choices caught up to him.
He spun around, eyes going wide. At first, his brain shortcircuited. How was Appa–? That didn’t make sense! There was no way he would even know that Nemo was gone!
Then, he saw Robbie lingering over his shoulder and everything clicked into place.
Nemo, at first, ignored Appa entirely as anger twisted his features. “You told him?!” Nemo shouted past Appa, staring at Robbie. “What the fuck, Robbie?!”
ROBBIE:
Robbie’s first instinct was to duck behind a tree as Marlin started casually strolling up to Nemo without a care in the world. Nemo wasn’t scary, obviously–Robbie loved him very much and he was so sweet and cute–but also he was a little scary and Robbie was actually sort of…impressed? Terrified? Of what Marlin was doing. It was probably all of the gnawing guilt making Robbie feel this way, honestly, and it was warranted.
Nemo proved this when he immediately turned toward Robbie with rage in his eyes and yelled.
And yes, there were definitely situations where Robbie would never betray Nemo like this, but this situation was a little bit different. Nemo was doing a very big thing right now–a very big thing that could potentially have very real consequences or spiral out of had very quickly if Nemo was left alone to overthink things–and telling Marlin was the right thing to do.
Unfortunately.
So, when Nemo yelled at him, Robbie didn’t cower or make himself smaller or let himself succumb to his guilt. Instead, with a sad look in his eyes (because hurting Nemo was never good or easy or something he was proud of), he just nodded. “I’m sorry Nemo, but he was so worried about you. We are both worried about you.”
NEMO:
Nemo wanted to shove Robbie.
He wanted to kick Robbie.
He wanted to use his wind to send a blast of damp leaves into his face.
All these cruel fantasies swirled in him as his fists curled, and the wind picked up and whipped at Nemo’s own hair. But just because Nemo wanted to do these things– punish his boyfriend for ratting him out, for ambushing him, for caring– that didn’t mean that it would make him feel good, or even get him out of the trouble he’d got himself into. No matter the size of the tantrum, he’d been caught.  And so as quickly as the wind picked up, it died, the air stale and flat.
Nemo’s face flattened out too. He sent a glance toward Tae. “I’ll be back,” he mumbled.
Then he stalked past Appa. “We can talk over here,” he said.
He didn’t look at Robbie again.
MARLIN:
Mu-yeol followed after Nemo, his expression blank save for a concerned furrow of his brow.
“Nemo,” He began coolly. “Just one question. Can you even explain yourself?”
Or was he well and truly off the deep end, eh?
NEMO:
As Nemo walked away, he carried his anger with him. It was a hot and comforting thing– bigger and easier to deal with than Nemo’s pain, his guilt, his worry. But it was also as fragile and thin as a balloon. With just one sentence, Appa destroyed it.
Can you even explain yourself?
Nemo couldn’t.
And just like that– his anger collapsed in on itself into all the rest of those things, the things that Nemo had been running from. His face screwed up, and his lip trembled, and he knew that he’d disappointed Appa. He’d wasted the opportunities that Appa worked so hard to give him. He was ungrateful. He was a loser. He was stupid.
Nemo’s shoulders hunched over, his hands pressing over his face as he began to cry. “N-no,” he admitted. “No, I can’t. I can’t. I can’t.”
He was talking about way more than just explaining himself. Right now, it felt like Nemo couldn’t do anything.
MARLIN:
Rightly or perhaps wrongly, he preferred this version of emotional Nemo to the red hot angry Nemo. Angry Nemo lashed out and left little room for getting to the root of an issue. When Nemo broke down like this he was honest and Marlin could actually figure out how to help him.
“Okay. Can you tell me anything about why you didn’t take your exams? And why didn’t you tell me uni was hard for you, eh?”
NEMO:
“I’m sorry,” Nemo said miserably, still crying and hunched, hiding his face from view. Appa standing there, talking to him so calmly, only told Nemo that his thoughts were right. Appa was disappointed in him. He had failed, miserably. This was shameful. He was nothing like–
“I’m sorry. Y-you worked so hard to help me afford everything and I didn’t want to disappoint you. I wanted to be like her, but I’m not. I’m not smart. I just– it’s so much– I can’t finish anything. I’m always behind everyone. I should be good at it. Everyone else can do it and isn’t like this.” Nemo rubbed his arm over his red, puffy face. “B-but I can’t and I–I dunno why.”
Why had Finn and Louie been fine? Why was Mim and Hunter and everyone else in his fellowship programme so smart? Why was it just Nemo who couldn’t finish the reading and who was so stressed and who couldn’t sleep and was in so much pain?
MARLIN:
“Hey, no, none of that. I don’t care if you finish uni or not, I only care that you do what you want to do regarding the issue. I never expected you to be like your eomma.” Mu-yeol said gently. “You wanted to go to uni so I worked to make it happen for you. It’s okay that you’re struggling to adjust but it’s not okay that you’re handling it by just running away.”
He always did this. Sometimes it was maybe the right decision, but this wasn’t one of those sometimes.
Then again, what had Mu-yeol done when faced with his guilt, his shame, and his fear? He fled Korea and came here. They weren’t so different.
“There’s no such thing as a smart person, Nam-min. There’s people who are very good at certain things, but there’s no smart people. Surgeons and rocket scientists are just as capable of being complete dickheads as anybody else outside of their fields. Your area of skill is in dance and science, maybe not other areas uni is making you tap into and that’s okay. It doesn’t make you a stupid person.”
NEMO:
Appa talked very kindly– kinder than Nemo knew he deserved.
And it was this kindness that made him cry a little harder. Appa was probably right, because Appa was right about most things. Wasn’t that how kids always felt about their parents? It’s what made standing up to them so hard sometimes. And it made leaving them hard too. For this entire semester, Nemo had tried to do his best, to be an adult without Appa’s help, but the truth was he didn’t think he’d been ready.
“S-so what am I supposed to do?” Nemo asked– wanting desperately to be told the answer, for once. He’d really tried to figure it out himself, and he’d failed. Couldn’t Appa tell him the answer, just one more time?
MARLIN:
“Right. I think it’s very obvious you have three options. I doubt you’ll be allowed to make up your final exams, so one of these three things is going to happen and it’s up to you which feels right for you.” Mu-yeol said gently, reaching forward to pat Nemo’s hair.
“One. You retake all your classes next term. Full time student. You stay in the dorms or you can move home and I’ll pay the housing contract severance fee. You might lose your scholarship but it’s okay. I think I can afford it next semester. Two; you drop out and come home. We can try uni again if and when you’re ready. Three; I don’t think they’ll let you stay in the dorms if you stay in school but drop down to part-time, but, maybe they will? If so you can choose to come home or dorm, drop down to part-time hours, and if you lose your scholarship I’ll cover it.”
A beat.
“Also, you’re nineteen. I don’t expect you to have your life figured out or even know what’s going to be the right decision for you a month, six months, a year from now. But one of those options is the right one for you for the now. You have to pick which one, Nam-minnie, I won’t force you to leave or stay in school one way or the other. I presented you a middle ground of going part-time if neither staying nor leaving feels right. You don’t have to decide immediately either. Sooner is better. But you can think it over some.”
NEMO:
All three options stressed Nemo out.
He’d wanted to quit uni about 24 hours ago. He was just so exhausted, so exhausted that the only thing that appealed to him was what he’d done– gotten the fuck away from the campus, disappeared and become a nobody in some sparse campsite far far away. But of course, deep down, he knew it wasn’t what he really wanted. He wanted a break. He wanted help. He wanted a fresh chance. He wanted all of his professors to tell him he didn’t have to take the exams (this was super unrealistic).
If he dropped out, he’d never be a dancer, though. He knew that. A fairy like him needed the connections uni could bring. So he didn’t want to drop out.
Full time filled his brain with bees all over again, bringing back the panic so big, he could choke on it. Thinking about it made him wanna hop in Tae’s truck and drive even further away.
So– part time. Part time it felt like was the only actual option, even though he didn’t know what that meant or would look like, and if he had to leave the dorms– which was the only part of uni he’d really enjoyed so far– he’d be so disappointed.
“Okay,” Nemo uttered in a small, defeated voice. “I’ll…think about it, I guess.” For the first time, he glanced back up at Appa, his eyes still puffy, leaking tears. “I really am sorry,” he said one more time.
MARLIN:
“You have to communicate with me when you’re having a hard time. I can’t help you if I don’t know you need help,” Mu-yeol said gently, resting a hand on Nemo’s shoulder.
He sighed.
“Since I know you aren’t missing and are safe. Do you…want to come home? Or no?”
NEMO:
Confusion fluttered across Nemo’s face. The way this usually worked was– Appa took him home. It was that simple. Whether he had run away, gotten lost, or had to escape from his grandparents, Appa appearing always meant that Nemo had to get in a car or on a train and that was it. It could be comforting, in a way. No matter how nutty things got, Appa would arrive, and Nemo knew he’d be safe.
He’d never been given a choice before. Then again, he was 19 now.
It still, sort of, felt like a trap. He knew what the right answer was. If he went back now, he could maybe take one of his exams– his contemporary dance exam. Which was just a paper, but it was a paper he’d written the most of. Maybe he could finish it, or turn it in unfinished, and explain. It was weird– this had always been an option, Nemo knew that, but only with Appa here did things feel easier to think about. Was it always going to be that way? No matter how old Nemo got?
He still hesitated. “Home,” he said, after that beat. “..Tae needs to return the truck anyway.”
MARLIN:
He nodded slowly and held an arm open for Nemo to curl up to his side.
“Okay. Sounds good— and you tell me when you decide what we’re doing moving forward, okay?” Mu-yeol said, voice even as the calm spot in a river.
“You’re an adult now, this is the part of life where you make the decisions. I’m just here.”
NEMO:
But what if I don’t want to be?
Nemo didn’t say it outloud. He probably didn’t have to, as he accepted Appa’s hug. The entire time they’d been talking, he’d wanted one desperately. He’d wanted one, actually, since he’d gotten injured, but there was a voice in his head scolding him, telling him, You’re too old for that. Too old to ask for help, too old to rely on Appa, too old to miss him.
“I don’t feel like an adult,” Nemo confessed this, at least. “I dunno how to be one.”
MARLIN:
Mu-yeol smiled sadly and played with the hair at the nape of Nemo’s neck, pressing a kiss to his temple.
“I don’t either, kid.” He admitted. “I’ve been faking this whole adult thing for twenty-three years.”
Some years better than others.
“You’ll get there too, as you get older.”
NEMO:
Would he?
Nemo doubted it. He wasn’t even sure he believed Appa, who was always the biggest and most adult-like person in a room, at least to Nemo. He didn’t think that would ever change. Even when Appa was depressed, didn’t Nemo still expect him to know everything?
The future just felt like a complex problem that Nemo was never going to be smart enough to solve. That’s why he kept running from it. He had to stop though. If he ever wanted to get smarter – braver – more capable – to be anything like Appa.
After a few more flits in which Nemo lingered in Appa’s arms and sniffled and wiped at his cheeks, he finally pulled away. It was time to go, he knew that. He trudged back toward Tae and Robbie, and only when he glanced up from the wet grass did he see Robbie looking at him – he’d probably been watching Nemo the whole time.
Nemo’s face went red and he looked away. He probably should apologize to Robbie too, but he was too ashamed.
And so he walked past him again and went to Tae. “We gotta head back,” he said quietly. “I’m sorry for dragging you out here.”
TAE:
Tae immediately opened his arms and pulled Nemo in, turning so they were sort of hug-shuffling back to the truck. "Hey you didn't drag me anywhere I didn't want to be, okay? I love you."

Happy SwynWriMo Time!
OTMS
MUN: S! We loved Willow’s Little Shop of Horrors-inspired plot this month, just in time for Spooky Season. S’s creativity never fails to blow us away, whether it’s her unique plots, her amazing creations in the #arts-and-crafts channel, or her frankly incredible memeing abilities. Yay S! CHARACTER: TANYA! There are two reasons Tanya gets character of the month. One, it was October and she’s a ghost. And two, more importantly, she’s taken some massive strides this month and her story is reaching a point where we’re all ready to grab the tissue box. Tanya’s really come a long way! THREAD: CAS FORTUIT || TOFI & MOON! This thread has everything– drama, political intrigue, complicated histories between two powerful characters. Members were on the edge of their seats for this one, and we couldn’t agree more. TASK: BOTH OF WOLF’S TASKS! Shoutout to L for taking on both tasks with Wolf this month! Wolf’s Evil Twin task gave us another fascinating peek into his family history and what could have been, while “Der kapitän” gave us all the feels. As one member put it, “L really used not a lot of words to convey so much story telling, really set the scene and really got me invested in Wolf and the Captain’s relationship.” Nice work!
BOARD UPDATES

Your Name: Han
Characters: Tae Moon, Emira Blight, Robbie Ryeo, Haru Yoshioka, Sindri Dyrsson
Pick one of your characters and talk about their growth (we recommend choosing an older character, but it’s up to you!) What about their story has surprised you? What are you proud of? How have they changed from their original inception to now?
Tae has grown a lot and I’m actually really proud of him. He started out as a very angry teenager. When I first got him he had just been kicked out of school for fighting, he hated his brother who had just come back into his life, and he resented his whole family basically. I remember writing him in those early days and he was always just so full of anger. (He met Louie by punching him in the face I’m pretty sure.)
As he grew up and spent more time around Jun, their relationship got a little bit better. It’s still not perfect and I love that about it, but Tae doesn’t resent him for leaving like he did at the beginning. He understands that Jun was just living his life and couldn’t stay with him forever, especially when he had plans to be a doctor. Like I said, they don’t get along perfectly, but Tae loves his brother a lot.
The biggest change, though, is Tae’s relationship with himself.
Before, he was refusing to even think about why he felt so angry all the time. He refused to wonder why he thought the world was out to get him and why he felt like lashing out was the only way to deal with it. And then, when he realized he was gay and thought about how angry it made him that he couldn’t just be himself, he started to hide even more! He hid his feelings for Nemo and his sexuality from his family for such a long time and never got to tell his dad about himself.
When Tae came out to his mother I was very emotional. I honestly wasn’t sure it would even happen while he was still living with her because he was so scared to do it. It didn’t go perfectly, which I also love, but it was just so brave of him and he’s grown up so much! He even stood up to Jun when it came to University and made his own choices and he likes his life right now. He’s very happy and I’m very happy for him and I’m just so proud of all the progress he’s made.
Pick another character (or the same character if you only have one) and talk a little about where you WANT them to go. What are your plans for them going into the new year?
I’m going to talk about Emira for a second because I have plans for her. Firstly I plan to dig a little deeper into her illusion magic. I haven’t done too much with it yet, probably because I always sort of felt kind of out of my depth when it came to sorcery. Our sorcery lore is so expansive and wonderful and amazing and I never really felt like I’d be able to do it justice, but I’m starting to get over that particular mental block. I think working on the illusion sorcery lore really helped with this and made me feel more confident in exploring it.
An interesting thing I’ve noticed about Emira is that her motivations for her illusions are very complex. I want to explore more of this side of her. Right now she is in the process of trying to unlearn all the toxic things her parents ingrained in her and I think that’s wonderful and I’m curious to see if the way she presents herself changes. I think it will. I’m looking forward to really working on her interpersonal relationships and her relationship with herself.
Pick a thread or a plot that you’re proud of and talk about why you loved it.
All of the Nihon stuff is top notch for me. I really love that I created this other world that mirrors our own, but with cats! And I love everything that came out of it. Huge shout out to Lauryl who contributed a lot to this plot and helped me bring it to fruition (and also provided me with a reluctant cat king for my cat queen). Writing a cat character is really just a blast. Every time I get on Haru and have to deal with the politics of a cat kingdom and it’s catizens I’m living my best life.
And the plot really just keeps on giving! Anyone around Swynlake want a suspiciously intelligent cat? Have a Nihon cat! Does anyone want to complain about cats digging through their garbage or or trying to enter their businesses? Nihon cat! Right now I’m in the middle of trying to organize a winter ball for cats in the forest and I just think that’s neat.
In terms of your own writing, identify 1-3 strengths and talk about why you think it’s one of your strengths.
I think I’ve said this on a previous questionnaire, but one of my strengths in writing is definitely dialogue. I like to believe that I’m able to craft believable responses to what people say to my characters and I try to give each of my characters a voice and their own way of speaking--like the words they use and whether or not they ramble and things like that.
I also think I’m pretty good at the small stuff--like the inner workings of the day to day and all that. I have a pretty decent handle on how to write a “normal” person with a job and a dog or whatever, you know? Even my Magicks sort of end up living their very best mundane lives which I suppose is a talent of mine, but it does lead me into one of my weaknesses lmfao.
In terms of your own writing, identify 1-3 areas of improvement.
B I G  P I C T UR E PLOTS! I am absolutely terrible at these and if I ever tried to do one by myself I feel like I would be flying by the seat of my pants and making everything up as I went. It is, for some reason, so difficult for me to plot out something that takes more than a couple months to accomplish. I’m a garbage planner when it comes to my writing. I make it all up as I go.
Sticking to my guns! I attribute this one to my absolutely atrocious memory and also my complete lack of writing down my ideas, but when I come up with headcanons for characters, I usually have trouble sticking to them. I need to come up with a system where I actually write that stuff down and keep it in a document. I need to make a doc for all my characters (one for each) and just dump stuff onto it that I make up as I go that way it actually becomes a real, concrete fact about them. Man, my characterization would be so much better if I did this. You are witnessing in real time my solution to this problem that I’ve literally always had. Wow.
Being intimidated. I need to stop this immediately! I get intimidated pretty easily when I write things and then get inside my head and tell myself I can’t do it. For instance if I wanted to do like, a werewolf plot, I would definitely not because I would tell myself that there was no way I’d ever get the werewolf lore right and everyone would be critiquing me and I just need to stop thinking like that!
Pick one of your plots, or even just a character, and come up with a list of 3-5 “mentor texts” where you can look for inspiration or research, then write a short (2-4 sentences) why you picked those texts. (They don’t have to be books, either!)
I’m going to do Haru for this!
A Whisker Away is a very important one, even though it came out AFTER Haru was born into existence, because it is literally so similar to her entrance into Swynlake. It’s the same thing! And I just remember watching it and feeling so much joy and it just gives me happy Haru vibes and I love it. If anyone wants to like, idk feel joy and pain and the full spectrum of human/cat emotions, they can watch this cute little show.
Warrior Cats because honestly who would I be if this was not on this list. I also read a few of these after Haru was created so they didn’t really contribute to the process of her coming into being, but they really helped me feel more comfortable writing in a cat world. They also informed most of the body guards and warriors that exist now that the Kingdom of Nihon is more present in Swynlake and I love that so much. Plus these books are just rad and reading them is an excellent idea. I just bought the first one for one of my friends as a Christmas present lol
I don’t know if this counts, but I’m going to say it anyway: The Royal Who Can’t Do Anything For Themselves But is Really Going to Try Anyway and Learn How to Adult trope is a huge one for Haru obviously. When she came to Swynlake she knew basically nothing. She was literally not even human. She was a cat that Jun had sort of adopted and was looking after, but then, when she became human, she was determined to fit in and learn how to function. She’s still learning, obviously, although now she’s also learning how to be a queen again for her cats, but writing Haru is always a joy for me and I hope I get to do it for a long time.
And now, a wishlist! Jot down a few themes or stories or genres etc that you want to maybe pursue in the upcoming year! (i.e. a good ol’ fashion forbidden romance, maybe you want to dig deep into racial identity etc) This doesn’t have to necessarily be attached to any characters or stories you have now– it’s just meant to help you see for yourself what kind of stories call to your heart.
Wow, what stories call to my heart? Man, you know what I want to do? I want to write like a sort of big gesture love story with someone. Like a maybe people aren’t perfect for each other--that doesn’t exist--but I really want to give it a try with you sort of story. That sounds really cool!
I also am really into friendships and want to keep writing all different sorts of those. My big goal I think is to make more friends. I want to branch out and get all sorts of friendships for my characters. I think that would be really fulfilling and nice.
Another one is get into magic and really explore the fantasy setting we have here tbh because like i said above, even my magicks end up living their mundane lives (which is not bad!!!) but really having a magick who loves their magic and uses it and embraces that would be really fun!
OPTIONAL: Why do you RP?
I RP because I love it. I really do. There have been some times where my real life has gotten in the way and I’ve felt burnt out or like I didn’t have enough time, but really I love doing this and I’m glad I do it and I don’t want to stop. It’s my hobby and I love it here. Everyone here is also great and you guys are like my best friends and I’m so glad I have you my little SwynRP family!

ROMO - Forbidden Love/OG Twilight Couple Goals/Lovers to Friends to Lovers Again/Amnesia
“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…" he murmured. I looked away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word. "What a stupid lamb," I sighed. "What a sick, masochistic lion.”
Listen. I have loved Romo for a long time. They’ve been through so much! Honestly the whole concept of a fairy/vampire romance when one could definitely kill the other and there being that very real threat in between that means they SHOULDN’T be together. Like all the signs point that they shouldn’t but they do anyway. I think that’s so beautiful.
And then of course it didn’t just STOP there. You know the forbidden love angst and all that of course is some great dramatic tension, but then you have them break up and Robbie becoming human and forgetting things and so you have that OTHER classic trope: the amnesia which leads to them connecting again and the love building again on Robbie’s side.
And now they’re close again and doing things on their own terms, and Nemo is able to love people freely the way that he’s always wanted to. I think the fact that Robbie is so content with himself and with that and where they’ve come is just awesome. Less love triangles. More free love.

The Hauntley Inn Book Club || Ryght
Amity was sick of her room.
Since moving into the inn, she rarely left it. At first, it was her fortress against Swynlake. It kept all things unfamiliar and uncomfortable out. She’d decorated her room as closely as she could get to her room in Blight manor, and sometimes...usually when writing or reading or playing with polymers for fun-- she fooled herself into thinking she really was home.
But the sheets weren’t hers, the mattress wasn’t hers, and the changing clientele of the inn always reminded her she was a guest.
That displaced feeling was especially bad around the holidays, without school to break up the day. Snow fell last night, making the grounds too frigid to collect reagents. After practicing her rune transcription and reorganizing her casting desk, she had to get out of there. So she grabbed her favourite Azura novel and headed downstairs, hoping she could find some change of scenary...
She wandered into one of the sitting rooms and got settled. She was probably reading for at least forty minutes when movement out of the corner of her eye startled her out of her usual book stupor. Glancing up, she spied... Robbie Ryeo.
Their eyes met.
Amity looked away in a panic.
He wasn’t leaving though and now Amity couldn’t focus. Her attention fluttered like a little bird, landing on the ex-vampire again and again, until finally...
“What are you reading?” she asked.

Skeleton In The Closet || Spooky Girls
The inn was almost completely booked!!
She couldn’t believe it. It was the first time since Snow had started managing the Hauntley Manor that this has happened! But the rush of autumn weather had ushered in a wave of bookings-- and even a brand new Nightly in the form of Mr. McQueen-- and so Snow’s days were full of making sure all her guests were taken care of.
She was finalizing the dinner menu with Bones in the kitchen when Tanya burst in.
Snow startled, giving herself a paper cut. “Ow,” she pouted, then back up at a crazy-eyed Tanya. “Um, hello-- is everything okay, Tanya?”

Whistle While You Work Pt.4: Heartbreak Weather
The storm dropped out of the sky.
That was how it felt. It had been on the radar, expected in the afternoon, and so Morey Construction turned up early to get as much done as they could. But by mid-morning, the sky was bruised and the atmosphere heavy. The only real warning was a couple of errant drops of rain dotting the wood.
And then it poured.
Chaos erupted on the site, the team scrambling to grab materials to bring inside. Janet and Gem began to wrestle with a massive tarp to cover the exposed part of the patio where the roof was-- well-- not. But the wind snagged it in its teeth, dragging it back over and over again.
Snow raced outside to grab one of the ends. “I got it!” She yelled over the pouring rain, the howling wind. Sheet lightning brightened the sky for a brilliant second, followed by the crash of thunder.

Tea Time || Sessie
Snow needed a break.
Normally, she didn’t feel this way. She loved her job-- even the difficult bits, in fact, especially the difficult bits. She loved schedules and meetings and balancing budgets and smoothing over guests’ worries or complaints. But it seemed there was an exception to this rule, wasn’t there?
His name was Lightning McQueen.
Lightning McQueen was driving her up the wall. And so Snow decided to put on some tea and take her twenty minutes, escaping out into the garden where it was chilly, but sunny-- a perfect autumn day. Perfect for tea.
“Oh, Ms. Wright-- do you mind if I join you?” she said as she approached Jessie, sitting with a book at one of the tables.

Bad Blood | Hobby
As if things weren’t bad enough, Henry was about to move in with a vampire. Not just any vampire. His girlfriend’s ex. Who also happened to be a vampire.
When RA Skip had approached Henry to tell him that his current dorm room had sprung a ceiling leak that could lead to black mold if not properly removed, he had given Henry the option to move off campus. The school would make an exception to the first-years-and-transfers rule. It was what Henry’s original roommate was doing.
The other option was to move in with Known Vampire Robbie Ryeo.
At first, Henry had thought the answer was clear. No way was he living with a vampire who could attack him at any moment! How could Henry possibly get any rest living like that? But... then again, it was an opportunity. To see a vampire up close and personal. Observe his habits, his weaknesses...
Henry was here, first and foremost, for Order duties. A college experience could come second. And, after all, the last label Henry wanted to get slapped with was “Anti-Magick.”
So there he was, outside Robbie’s door with all of his things in boxes. His door now, he supposed. Henry inserted his new key. “Hello, it’s just me,” Henry said, shouldering the door open. “Henry Charming. Pleasure to meet you.”
Technically, Henry had already met Robbie, but it felt like the polite thing to do. And Henry intended to be very polite to Robbie. Very, very, polite.
